Let me state the facts first: - the dental hygenist was excellent; - the dentist appears to be competent; and - the staff is friendly and accommodating. So what detracted from the positives above? - the first visit was 2 hours - some people may like this, but I did not, I felt it was more of way to drum up more business. I wanted a cleaning and that's all I wanted; - the dentist said I had a cavity despite the fact that I've been seeing other dentists for a number of years and saw one only a few months back. I didn't understand how the other dentists missed this cavity, but if that was the case, I would have appreciated a more detailed explanation other than that the other guys must have missed it. So why 3 stars despite the competent dentist and staff? Because I wasn't convinced that I had an issue and a procedure was done without my full understanding and little explanation or justification was provided when asked. So despite all the positive press, I'm going to keep on looking for a permanent dentist. read more

Simple: best dentist I've ever found. He's speedy, punctual, and unusually painless - he's even got a special method of getting the anaesthetic into your gums without pain. (No spoiler here!) He also explains what's going on as he works, which I appreciate. And then there were the litmus tests. #1: I found Dr Schneider by asking a dental hygienist for the best dentist she knew, and she named Dr Schneider instantly (and quietly - I was sitting in another dentist's chair). #2 After a friend of mine had her mouth wrecked by yet another dentist's botched root canals, Dr. Schneider fixed it. I love Dr. Schneider AND his staff. I've been going here for a little over a year (3 appointments). My first appointment with him consisted of about 45 minutes one-on-one. He performed a VERY thorough, but comfortable, dental exam which gave me some peace of mind about my dental health. Future visits consisted of a similar level of attention to the patient. Another huuuuge plus is his office staff. It's very very very difficult to find good customer service in DC, ESPECIALLY in doctors' offices. His staff is great though. If I ever have a billing or insurance issue, not only do they answer my question but they usually go out of their way to fix it for me. Example: my insurance mailed my check directly to them and instead of just forwarding it off to me a week later, they comped it back to my credit card so I would get the money faster. Most places wouldn't take the time to do that. read more

By far the best doctor I have ever gone to. I went 7 years (yikes!) without going to the dentist because 1. I was living in South Carolina and in college and didn't want to go through the whole transferring of medical information and 2. I hate dentists. They scare me. I was recommended to Dr. Schneider because my wisdom teeth needed pulled and well, it had been 7 years since I had been to the dentist. To my absolute surprise, Dr. Schneider was the nicest, coolest, most comfortable doctor I had ever encountered. Luckily, there were no issues with the teeths and he reffered me to an awesome oral surgeon for the extraction of my wisdom teeth. Since visiting Dr. Schneider the first time 3 years ago, I have had nothing but great experiences. I look forward to the visits and that squeaky clean feeling. His staff is remarkably pleasnt and I have never waited more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. Even when he had to file down my molars (sounds SUPER painful) from consistant teeth grinding, it was painless, quick and Dr. Schneider and his staff let me know what they were doing every step of the way. I love this office! They defy all the stereotypes about dentist offices. I am writing this review because I am being forced to change dentists since Dr. Schneider doesn't accept federal Humana insurance and I wanted to write them a positive review as a thank you for being such a great dentist for several years. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful, not a tinge of rudeness or incompetence, so common elsewhere. I never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. Any time there was a traffic delay they were still able to accommodate me. The hygienists have all been skilled and super friendly and nothing has ever been painful or uncomfortable. Dr. Schneider himself could not be nicer. He would put even the most anxious patient at ease. He's very kind, explains everything, seems genuinely interested in your life, has a great demeanor, and is fun to talk with. Interacting with him and his staff is a joy. He has always recommended practical and financially palatable treatment options. I hear about a lot of dentists trying to upsell their patients or recommending procedures or equipment simply for the money in it. You never have to even think about that possibility with this office. I'm so disappointed to have to leave them and during my search for another dentist I am quickly learning that offices like this are extremely rare. read more

I would echo what I've read on here from other reviewers. Schneider and his staff are extremely competent, friendly, and trustworthy, and the doc runs a tight ship, all the while making it look easy. It costs me a little more to come to Schneider versus other dentists that might be in the discounted part of my company's dental plan, but whatever extra amount I'm paying is absolutely worth it. Getting professional care and great customer service from nice people is just not something you'll get in any old practice. I found Dr. Schneider through a work colleague and have referred several other colleagues to him as patients. I came to his practice about 8-9 years ago after I had some shoddy (and extremely painful) work done by another dentist in NW DC that clearly wasn't at the top of his game. The difference in coming to Schneider was like night and day. I highly recommend his office. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Schneider's for 20 years now. I've recommended him to many friends and colleagues over the years. Dr. Schneider is nice, very smart, and very fast. His staff is efficient, friendly and organized -- they don't hand you a stack of forms to fill out every bloody time you walk in there [I know most paperwork is because of insurance requirements; this is probably the most maddening and time-consuming part of seeking out any health care provider.] Dr. Schneider is terrific; I think it's also a testament to the strength of his practice that many of his staff members have been with him for years. About a year ago I had to get braces. I was bummed that I had to go see another dentist just for the braces as Dr. Schneider doesn't handle orthodontics. I was still coming to Dr. Schneider for my check-ups and cleanings and there was a big difference in the professionalism and staff demeanor from Dr. Schneider's practice to the other one. I recently scheduled a first-time appointment due to a cracked filling. My initial interactions with the staff over the phone were positive. I called on a Monday and they fit me in for a Wednesday appointment. My evaluation with Dr. Schneider was very pleasant and professional. Then I found out that I was not getting the filling repaired. This was just a $75 evaluation, and I would have to come in for another appointment to repair the filling (a separate $200+ charge). Since I called to schedule a filling repair, and instead received (and was charged for) an evaluation, I feel that I should have been informed of this in advance. I expressed this concern to the staff, who informed me that there was not enough time to fix the filling. This struck me as odd at best, since when I scheduled the appointment for 11 am, I specifically asked if I would be able to keep a 1 pm appointment around the corner. She told me that I would make my appointment; what she didn't tell me is that they weren't going to repair the filling during that two hour window. After the evaluation, I couldn't schedule the follow-up appointment because their computer was down (happens to the best of us). They said that they would call to schedule an appointment, and they did not. I called today (3 days later), and found out that I can't get an appointment for another 2 weeks--a full 3 weeks after my initial evaluation. Meanwhile, I have a cracked filling that is increasingly sensitive, I need to find yet another dentist, and I lost $75. I liked Dr. Schneider, but unfortunately his staff seems to have adopted the attitude that they have enough patients and can afford to lose one. I'm sure that a lot of patients have great experiences there, but unfortunately, I did not. read more

I've had some really bad luck with the dentists, to the point where I thought a good dentist simply doesn't exist. Dr Schneider has changed all that! What a relief. I've been with him for more than 5 years and I continue to be impressed with professionalism and experience of his office. No missed appointments, no waiting, always friendly staff. This dentist is super awesome! I haven't been to a dentist is 4 years, and I knew I had caveties, but kept delaying it because dentists really just freak me out and I don't have dental insurance. I made an appointment in 2 weeks- which is amazing for the district, seeing as I didn't have to wait 3 months. The staff was incredibly friendly and positive, and took the time to explain insurance issues before I even booked the appointment. I don't have dental, but after reviewing all yelp feedback, I knew this was the place to go. The receptionists were lovely, and the dental hygienist was probably one of the nicest people I've ever met. She made me feel really comfortable, explained what she was doing, made sure I wasn't in pain, and did not lecture me about not flossing. She explained why it was necessary, showed me where I had problems with my gums. She was really informative, and not condescending like some other offices I've visited in the past. When it came time to see the Dr, he was really friendly. He chatted with me for a few minutes which made me feel like I was talking to an actual decent person, as opposed to someone who was stressed about time and my lack of flossing. He did a thorough review of my teeth, not just the problematic ones, and gave me a plan to follow. I was especially nervous about pricing since I don't have insurance, but he said we will make a list of the major issues to address first, and then move down the line based on priorities and budgets. I really appreciated that he wasn't forcing me to do everything at once, and that he knew the costs (didn't send me to a billing office). Hands down BEST dentist I've ever been to, and I highly recommend this office!! read more

Dr. Schneider has been my dentist for over 15 years which should tell you something. I tried another dentist once in that time who was closer to where I live in Bethesda, but quickly realized my mistake after getting so-so service and care and so I went right back to Dr. Schneider. My husband goes to him too. Dr. Schneider and his entire staff provide the best dental care you can get in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The appointments are always on time so you are not stuck waiting around. I saw Dr Schneider for approximately three years after he purchased the practice of my prior dentist, Dr Ted Fields. I switched dentists largely because Dr Schneider did not take the times to do things right forcing me to return to have him redo what should have been done the first time. While I have not seen Dr Schneider in 4 years, I was recently told that a cap he put on one of my teeth approximately 4 years ago has to be replaced due to decay under the cap. Given Dr Schneider's general incompetence I was not terribly surprised. Annoyed but not surprised. read more

I was lucky to receive referral to Dr. Schneider over 7 years ago, and have been using his service since. He is the best dentist I ever met, and a wonderful person too. Other people who work in his office are also highly qualified and competent, friendly, and provide the best possible service and treatment to their clients. I never thought I'd say I like going to dentist office, but since Dr. Schneider became my dentist, I do feel that way. I trust his opinion, his recommendations always turn out to be good and correct. During the first year he replaced many of old fillings I had, in the consequent years more work was done to improve appearance of my teeth, and since then it has been mainly "maintenance", cleaning, making sure my teeth are healthy and look good. I chose Dr Schneider based on the reviews here, and I've got to join the Yelp lovefest - he's great! I've always had tons of cavities -- and thus plenty of experience with getting holes drilled in my teeth. Dr Schneider did a great job on the two cavities I came to him with, the numbing injections were almost painless, he kept me calm and was super thorough.
