Amazing selection of magazines, best in the city! Don't forget to get a cup of coffee at the cafe and a homemade pastry.

That said, as far as what to do around town I MUCH prefer TimeOut Chicago even if I do have to pay for it. With the Reader, it's just too much crap to wade through. And Jonathan Rosenbaum...what is his deal? My boyfriend loves him but every time I read one of his reviews, even if it's a movie I've already seen, it's like "What the hell is he talking about?" It gets to be insufferable. However, I must give them an exta star for carrying my beloved Lynda Barry. Updated to add another star: Though I'm a Time Out subscriber now, I still find myself picking up the reader for their often interesting (though sometimes ridiculous) cover stories. I ADORE their long articles - one thing I hate about newspapers is how they don't usually give any details with their stories. I also love how The Reader will say shit about local politics no one else will.

I'm glad the Reader is still around. I saw they began offering subscribe by mail options for people…read morewho can't get to a box in the city. I wanted to help support independent journalism, so I bought an annual subscription in March. The first and then the second delivery dates came and went with no paper. They have an email address to contact with questions and issues about subscriptions that is a black hole. I emailed them more than once from a couple different addresses and got silence. The phone number they have listed is never answered, it just rings and rings. I finally had to start a dispute with my cc company as I paid for goods that were never delivered. If you want to read the Reader get it from a box in the city and skip the subscription by mail.

The setup is different, but still had a good selection comics to funko pops, games, collectibles and more. Very friendly staff, greeted once coming in. The game room in the back is still available. The value of the comics are at a good price. No complaints. I was sad to see G-Mart comics go, but I am glad it stayed comic shop. I wish Dark Tower comics so much success. I will be back soon.

Not really a comic shop pro. I got back into reading comics during COVID, but mostly digital and…read moreafter a while it turned into buying physical stuff. G-Mart (the previous shop that occupied this space) was very close to me so it was my go to shop. I found their online ordering setup a bit old school, but man what I wouldn't give to have that back. At least G-Mart would send you e-mails updating you on your order. The Dark Tower system is definitely more modern, but there's no real notifications unless I'm missing something. No more discounts on subs either which is a real kick in the dick. I pre-ordered a comic months in advance, again no real e-mail communication. Showed up on the release date and they just straight up didn't have it. The good thing is they don't charge you ahead of time like G-Mart did. Luckily Challengers had it in stock though! The other day I got a new releases e-mail for the first time in the history of the store becoming Dark Tower and it's just some dudes name instead of Dark Tower so I thought it was junk. I dunno man, I usually like the real local mom and pop feel of stores because everything is a shitty chain these days, but this place may be a little too mom and pop. Hopefully I've just had bad luck with them but I'm back to a digital only comic reader for the time being.
