    Storefront of Chicago Comics.

Was in Chicago visiting some friends and stumbled onto Chicago Comics while walking from Wrigleyville to Lincoln Park. Walked in and was greeted by the two employees behind the counter. Very nice and accommodating. Started by browsing the new comics sections along the wall. Then walked through the back issues until I found the 25 cent area near the back. Had a blast digging through about six boxes. Gathered up about 5-10 comics and walked up to the cashier and cashed out. Overall a really great place with a fantastic selection of comics and graphic novels. Would absolutely recommend coming here if you're a collector.

Great selection of comics and zines and they will buy old stuff, too! Definitely stop in if you're a comics lover.

I started going here my senior here in high school and through ALL my college years. I still go there from time to time now to say hello to old friends and some of the newer kids. They have a great selection of yugioh cards and also sports cards and collectibles. John, the owner, is a great guy. He knows my name when I walk through the doors and I talk to the man about anything - majority of the talks are about life and sports. John's a good man and knows how to run a business. If you're a sports enthusiast, stop by and check it out. You'd be surprised of the things he has in there. Good luck on the business John and see you soon!

That made things right on the surface, but the experience itself still left a bad impression--especially for a store that specializes in cards. Here's what happened: I went in asking for sleeves to fit standard-sized Magic: The Gathering tokens--just regular cards, but double-sided. I explained that I already had sleeves for the rest of my deck, but those had colored backs, so I specifically needed clear sleeves on both sides to show both faces of the token. I picked out clear baseball card sleeves (which are the right size for MTG), but the staff told me they wouldn't fit and pushed me toward something else. The pack they sold me turned out to be 60mm x 87mm, which is too small. That's where the frustration came from. They were more concerned about whether I was using a "gaming" sleeve vs. a "sports" sleeve for feel, but they completely missed the basic form factor--which is way more important. I would've been fine with a sports sleeve if it fit. Instead, I left with something physically incompatible with the cards I clearly described. I don't expect every store employee to be an MTG expert, but this is a card shop. Knowing the standard MTG card size (91mm x 66mm) should be a given--especially if you're giving product advice. It's frustrating because I went in expecting the kind of help you get from a local face-to-face shop, but I ended up finding the right sleeves on Amazon after getting burned in person. I want to support brick-and-mortar shops like this. But when they miss something that basic--and then misguide the customer--that's a trust issue. The refund helps, but the experience still leaves me unsure whether I'll be back.

TLDR; amazing place and layout very affordable amazing service and has a verity of things…read more I absolutely love it here I've been here twice and I'm glad to say it's amazing I was worried due to the other reviews that said people here are transphobic and a bit weird towards women and I'm glad to say it's not like that it's nothing like that anymore Atleast They have comics, manga, graphic novels and coloring books along side of necklaces, figures and gems(although I'm not sure the authenticity of them) and other things (be careful if you bring children in though cause there are some porn comics) Everything is really well priced and today they had a 50% off stand outside with comics graphic novels and manga the avg price of the paperback comics are like 5$ and below while the softcovers can range from 30-50$(from what I saw) not sure how much the manga is while the graphic novels are around 17$ they have a 1$ section of comics and their figures are around 230-maybe 400$ it's very affordable The service was amazing when I went yesterday for some rogue comics although they ran out due to popularity they helped me find some comics where she's heavily featured in and while checking out they ask if you want a cover for the comic and they're very welcoming and friendly I love the layout they maybe a small store but it's very neat and not cluttered there's a lot of verity 100/10 would recommend

I finally visited unabridged bookstore! It is definitely worth the hype. This place is HUGE,…read morehousing so many different genres, authors, and books for everyone. Browsing for books is one of my favorite past times and I could have spent a loooot of time in here. Being a mom to a two year-old I especially love looking for new books for him. I was able to find one of my favorites here-- where the wild things are. We have since read it every single night before bed for the past two weeks. It continues to be a smash hit. I also grabbed him one of the books from the little critter series that I loved as a kid. He really likes that one too. I only had about 15 minutes to look around, so I definitely need to make another trip to dedicated to finding some books for myself, but I was happy to support this local shop by purchasing some classics for my kiddo.

I have very mixed feelings about this bookstore…read more If you're a big reader of fiction, as I am, you'll find the selection to be first-rate. There are large sections devoted to Penguin Classics, Modern Library, NYRB, and so forth, and a good selection of mystery, horror and science fiction novels. But the non-fiction side of the shop is pathetic. The guiding principle seems to be, "we only stock books that will make our readers comfortable. Books that will tell them what they already think they know. Books that won't challenge them. Books that will teach them nothing new." The entire purpose is to offer customers only those world views that they're already in agreement with -- uniformly Leftist, naively "socialist," anti-capitalist, and anti-Western civilization. And, needless to say, there's a heavy emphasis on sentimental Palestinianism. It's a suffocatingly narrow-minded approach. A bookshop should be a place to discover new ideas and new perspectives. Not a place to have one's dated orthodoxies and narrow-minded perspectives confirmed. If you're in search of books that will confirm your biases and comfort you in your prejudices, it's the bookstore for you. If you want to be intellectually challenged, you'd be better off going to Barnes and Noble, which carries a wide range of authors with differing viewpoints. (Yes, a "big chain" bookstore is more indie than the indie competition!) It has wider aisles too, and friendlier and less condescending clerks.
