The "downtown" area is center around a large white building which houses the majority of the administrative and government offices. There is a lot housed in the one building though and it seems as though all the stores are situated in this one area of the city. I did notice the police department right away but there is also a quite nice public library & town hall along with a few other cute shops. It's a really quaint city which feels extremely safe. That might explain why the population is blowing up.

As we got closer to the building there was a guy standing in the middle of the road, munching on a sandwich, and directing cars to parking slots....funny. The center was having a vintage market this weekend and what a pleasant surprise it was. The place is larger than it looks. Every room was filled to the brim with vintage goodies presented by individual vendors. The selection was wonderful and the prices reasonable. The vendors are so nice and willing to educate you about their collections. One gentleman sells vintage Christmas cards and buttons. I bought a few lovely cards (no one does graphics like this anymore) and plan on framing them whenever I find some nice antique frames. I also found a vintage pin that looks just like my doggies. I love antiquing but have found that the regular antique shops are getting pretentious (everything behind locked glass) and expensive. You can come to the LCCC, have fun conversations, and take home some treasures. They also have a flea market every few months.

Getting here is pretty easy, it's fairly close to the Dick's on Lake City. Parking is another story. The building has about a dozen parking spots and you'll often see cars double parked (the horror). Otherwise you're looking at street parking which can take you rather far away. Once you do find some parking far away, be sure to see if it's a "30mins load" or if there's a "No Parking" sign anywhere. The building itself is old and tired, with well-worn furniture in the waiting area and office. The restrooms are clean though. The large auditorium reminds me of a cafeteria, especially since they set up long folding tables for people to show their wares. There is a small cafe that will sell coffee, donuts, and sandwiches for a couple bucks. I like coming here because there is always something different at the flea market. One on hand, you'll get the stuff that is priced high (for my taste) of antique items such as coins, toys, and jewelry. On the other, you'll see stuff that is priced rather low which you don't need to buy so you don't but you so regret it later (sigh). Then there's a bunch of stuff in the middle that doesn't really land on your radar for whatever reason but it's still fun to wander around and browse a couple laps. You can show up early or on time to score good parking, but the tables don't really fill until maybe 2hrs after the official start time. Then it may get a little crowded with more buyers showing up. The folks at the vendor tables and staffing the cafe/office are super sweet and nice. They always have interesting stories to tell about their items. It's an overall relaxed vibe for the people like me who hope to find something really cool. :)

monday morning august 17th i called the street department at the city of redmond…read more i spoke with tess and she took down my request which was that two manhole covers have asphalt missing from the sides, both of them. tess wrote up my request. took down my email and told me she would send my request quickly for repair. today, 24 hours later my request was taken care of. now both man holes are repaired. tess is the best person to talk to and the city of redmond is ten times better than the city of kirkland which is where i live.

I rarely do this but I am going to swing the opposite way on my ratings. Yes, Redmond has a lot of…read moreapartments downtown but when you go to Kirkland and Bellevue it's pretty crazy and Woodinville is changing a lot too. Most of the change in Redmond now appears to have happened and it has Marymoor park, the light rail to go downtown and Redmond Town Center. Every time we go to kirkland and bellevue it is so packed all of the time and Redmond has a lot of apartments downtown but it doesn't have the feeling that kirkland does during the summer. you can't even drive through kirkland on a sunny day without the cruising traffic and crowded restaurants. kirkland is lovely but it's loved by everyone (not just the people that live there) so finding parking is hard. Ultimately Redmond isn't as bad as the other cities on the eastside for being crowded constantly and it has nice green spaces outside of the immediate downtown so I'm changing my rating. :-)

The parking garage is easy to navigate, there is an amazing sculptural piece outside the glassed eastern lobby wall, and the interior itself is open and inviting. There is a manned customer service desk which I really liked (these are a dying breed in many City halls, as many municipalities have cut these employees and services, due to budget cuts). I was transfixed by the travertine floor which is inlaid with a variety of multi-shaped materials in various images. There is clear signage where to get various licences and do various municipal businesses. There is a lovely cafe/coffee stand in the lobby, and it seemed to be a popular place. The only reason I did not assign 5 stars to this beautiful facility is because of the parking charges. Thankfully, they will validate your parking if you are there on any official City business or if you are attending a City meeting there. Otherwise, it's exhorbitant (I think the rate is $25 for up to 3 hours, if memory serves me correctly). Wow.

The workers doing their duty for this country were educated, prepared, friendly, and professional. I'd vote here everytime for till 3000 :) because of them. Cool story, my co-worker and pod mate recently became a citizen. I think she was intimidated by the registration process as online there were some hiccups for her. After going to vote for myself, I pinged her and let her know while standing in line, they have workers helping those who haven't registered yet. I told her how great everyone was, how fast the line moved, and how easy peezy it all was. I had been trying all week to get her to vote, and after my experience at Crossroads Community Center, she did it!

This review is solely for the outdoor spaces of this Community Center, especially the tennis…read morecourts. My companion and I had driven to 3 parks in the evening, a week or two ago, looking for a tennis court. The tennis courts were full at every one of the 3 parks that we drove to! It was about to get dark soon, so we thought that it might get dark if we tried to wait for a court at one of the parks. So, we drove here as our last try to find an open outdoor public tennis court that evening. Thankfully both tennis courts were open here when we arrived! As you can see on the ground around me, the tennis courts had quite a bit of tree debris on them (mostly twigs and pine cones). However, we were able to play tennis here for about an hour and the pine cones and twigs didn't really interfere with our play, so 5 stars from me! The second tennis court was occupied by 2 other tennis players shortly after our arrival. They were very considerate and threw the stray ball back to us when it landed in their area, and we did the same for them. The parking lot is smallish, but it was sufficient for our needs and it was only about half full. The winding path to get to the tennis courts was a lovely place for a short stroll, with tall trees surrounding the path. There is a kids play area near the tennis courts. Kids seemed happy about playing there on the evening of our visit. There is also a 4-hoop basketball court adjacent to the tennis courts. It was full for most of the time that we were playing tennis. I liked the high fences around this space, so we didn't have to worry about a basketball getting in the way of our tennis play. It's been years since I last played tennis. I played tennis a lot growing up, mostly with my Mom, who is extremely competitive. I'm not super competitive myself, I prefer to be collaborative in most cases, but I was delighted that my companion and I each won 5 of our 10 games, because I do like doing physical activities with people of similar skill levels. Super nice and peaceful area, and a great place to play tennis. We may return!

I have often thought of the Peter Kirk Community Center as 'the little engine that could'. For such…read morea small space, they manage to offer loads of activities here. Layout wise, they have a decent size multi-purpose room with kitchen. It is big enough to have a low height stage, and its capacity is 150 guests. They have three conference rooms that also acts as meeting rooms or classrooms. These spaces are available for rent. The online link has photos of these spaces. A reception area with a few couches and a bookcase is just inside the entry. I have seen people, young and old on these couches, mingling, and just hanging out here at all hours. They offer senior activities during the daytime, as well as community classes throughout the day and evening. I have taken yoga classes as well as a stretching class. The class catalog is available online. Both Kirkland and non-Kirkland residents can sign up. During special occasions, they host bigger events for the greater community. The most recent is a Lunar New Year celebration with children's activities indoors inside the community center, the kitchen offered spring rolls to snack, the adjacent teen center building held performances, and a Chinese Lion Dance team entertained everyone outdoors on a beautiful day. It was a blast!
