Not very diverse - but it does happen to have one of the best Boba shops in the universe here, and some pretty good Vietnamese food as well. Go to Cha Boba, while here - and try the Okinawa and the Hawaii Butterfly. Also, there's Spring Roll Express, which has off the charts spring rolls and banh mi. Atitlan is also some of the best Central American food in the entire country, and every dish is perfection. Also our fave nail salon is here - Nail Spa Expose. The live music was a nice surprise, as well as the arena covered in Houston street signs. Every head turn greeted me with original and unique art ond display: speedometers, affirmations of the power of love, and even dancing mermaids and skeletons engaged in intense conversations. A huge numbeer of refineries are here and you'll get to drive past them (and smell them) along State Road 197. Tanks and towers and chemicals floating into the air. Just driving through here can't possibly be healthy. But there are other parts to this city that aren't chemicals. The Texas City Dike is lovely. There's a Buc-ee's here. I thought I would write a short ditty Bout a place where the…read moreair is so sh**ty Petrochemical Plants And cheap outlet mall pants Oh they have it all in Texas City This is a really interesting wrong-turn corner of Texas with a lot of scary industry on both sides of the highway (I-45) on the way down to Galveston. It's pretty much your last stop as you're crossing the swampy lands heading out to Galveston itself. Just a few miles before you get into Galveston, just before crossing the long bridge/causeway, you're in Texas City. Last stop on dry land, if you will. Texas City has had a nightmarish history, including the worst US disaster when a fertilizer ship exploded and destroyed half the town in the 40s, killing nearly 600 and injuring 5000, blowing the ship anchor 3 miles away and making Galveston residents fall over 14 miles away. Later, BP had its own explosion killing 15, and there were several other tragedies. The BP refinery here is the nation's 3rd largest. Texas City is famous for these enormous petrochemicals factories of course, but it's also famous for outlet shopping if that's your thing, and that's most people saying these days isn't it? The outlets down here are actually the best in all of Texas. The reason they are the best in all of Texas is because hardly anybody comes all the way down almost to Galveston for outlet shopping. So what you end up having is a Tanger Outlets which, unlike most others in the country, has hardly anyone shopping here even at busy times. I don't really know how they make any money to be honest because it's a terrible location. The only possible people that could be down here are either people who live on this side of Houston already, or summer vacationers, or people who drive way out of their way down towards Galveston for shopping. It's certainly not a major thoroughfare for the country or anything like that. But they do have a lot of great deals and they're hardly ever out of anything because it is so not very busy. Every store seems like a ghost town every day. Anyway it's a cool little area but lots of factories like I said. Scary.

This was my first time coming to the Greek Festival. I was excited to try it when I saw all the…read morebanners attached to the gates promoting it as I drove along Montrose the past few weeks. I paid $10 at the entrance and got a wristband. Not everyone was given one. My friend came a few minutes after me and didn't have one. You can pay there in cash or card or do a $20 dinner plate, pastry box and ticket combo online. It was very crowded, but the lines for food like the dinner plate, souvlaki, and pastries moved quickly. The same for beverages like the Greek coffee, wine, water, tea and lemonade. Honestly, the food was just ok, and it was overpriced. For $15, you get one large skewer with meat and onions. It's $2 for one pita bread that was dry and had no flavor. It was another $2 for a small container of tzatziki sauce. I thought the beef wasn't marinated as well as other Mediterranean chains like Niko Nikos or restaurants. It was mostly tender but lacked flavor. The tiropita and spanakopita were $3 each. I thought the tiropita (puff cheese pastry) tasted bitter. I ate half of it. My favorite was the spanakopita. For desserts, it was also $3 each, and I got the baklava and kourambiedes. Both were good but not worth $3 for one tiny piece. The kourambiedes is similar to the snowball cookies or Italian wedding cookies. That was my favorite pastry. My friend had the $20 plate that included the pastitsio, a tiny keftedes (Greek meatball) cut in half, one dolmades that was more meat forward than rice, and kind of soggy tiropita and spanakopita because it was enclosed in a styrofoam container while hot. Bummer. There's a lot of tall standing tables, tables and chairs along the closed streets, and some covered table and chair areas. Some people chose to sit in the grass or steps, wherever they could find a space. We found a space at the end of one of the tables. People seemed happy and were with friends or family. We missed the shows but saw people dressed in traditional attire. The gift shop was fairly big with religious Greek Orthodox imagery, handmade rugs, handmade pottery, jewelry, olive oil, and other Greek herbs, figs and knickknacks from Agora. There were a ton of olive trees for $35, and I saw many people walking around with one. I wanted one and was on the fence, but my friend convinced me, so I took the time to look for a nice one. I like how they gave paper instructions on olive tree care. Now I'm in search for a rustic pot. I'm glad I finally got to check out the festival but wish the food was better and not overpriced. I would come back with friends but probably eat before and just order a few things like the spanakopita and kourambiedes and see a show.

These works of immersive art are meant to have the viewer experience the sky and the surroundings. Twilight Epiphany Skyscape is located on a pyramid mound of earth. It is interesting to see the light sequence projected on the concrete "roof." The 40 minute light sequence starts 40 minutes before sunrise and 10 minutes before sunset. Climb the stairs to the second level seats or sit inside the pyramid. Or view the show from outside the pyramid. I think that is the better view. Look at the Moody Center for the Arts calendar to take a guided tour to learn more.

As an art head and aesthetic enthusiast I've always wanted a Claes Oldenburg installation or architectural wonder open to the public in my city. Around 2012 my wish was granted! Located on the Rice campus, this spot has provided many a memory. Highlighting art, space and nature, this beautifully constructed, sparsely attended, and (imo) under appreciated spot is truly a standout in the community. I understand how this spot may feel ordinary to some, but between this, Rothko chapel, and Menil, all my aesthetic dreams are answered. Pro tip: This installation requires parking at the Rice Campus, and a short walk so be prepared! If you're visiting someone at Rice, St.Thomas TIRR, or the nearby hospital, it's def worth the stop in.

The owner was so sweet and hilarious actually, she plays all day lol. They served us an array of samples, including sugarcane juice, mango tea, and chicken, tofu and pork banh mi. My favorite sample was the egg rollsssss, delicious!!! I tried a few of their menu items (popcorn chicken and mangonada boba - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) but what I really enjoyed about this experience is that it was Yelp-ified (yelp bags, swag, napkins - so cute!) and that I was able to connect with and talk to Jando, Mary and so many others in Houston that are apart of the Yelp Community :))))) Excited to be able to connect again!
