Drivers along the IH 35 corridor knew to slow down before, during or after driving in Selma. If not, there was a high probability you would receive a ticket. Nowadays, the speed trap persona is rarely mentioned. Most folks view Selma as a great place to reside with conveniences of living near a big city. Folks that live in Selma frequently commute back and forth to San Antonio, TX.

And Selma's enough to make you want to hang out here from dusk til dawn. Which would be quite a feet. Although trying to snake your way in here in traffic can be tough. But I don't mean to wine. On with the review. Salma is on the outskirts of San Antonio on the northeast side, right when you're heading to Austin or coming in from Austin. It's not too far out of town, and there are some pretty cute places and some decent food. And all the chain restaurants you can imagine seem to be here, and even a little bit of boba. It's nice here and traffic is not as bad as it is in some parts of San Antonio, and definitely not as bad as Austin, Houston or Dallas. It's a somewhat typical suburb and not too fancy compared to some. I like it, although I probably wouldn't live here.

Southtown is my favorite neighborhood in San Antonio to visit and hang out. Great museums and studios there like the Contemporary at Blue Star and Garcia Art Glass. Of course, can't forget The Pearl (former brewery compound converted to a landscape of eateries, shops, hotel and more). The Riverwalk extension connects downtown to The Pearl. San Antonio is filled with historical sites, monuments, museums, etc. Lots of off the beaten path finds as well.

Some horses had their manes braided. Below, visitors are riding on the river to capacity. We saw one couple hired the boat all to themselves with drinks in hand, 3 musicians to serenade them during their ride in the back, very special grand gesture and oh so romantic. I told Doc I wish I had met a man like that in my lifetime. It was nice to see, lucky lady? Maybe she booked it for the fellow. In any case, Lovely memory for them.

There are lots of nice antique stores and restaurants along the main street of this town. It's home to the Olmos Circle, which is an eyesore of a turnabout in the middle of McCullough and Olmos. It used to be a fountain, but that plan nearly turned deadly several times. The city has its own fire department, trash pickup, city government, and police department. The new city hall was paid for by speeding tickets. Beware driving down McCullough. The speed limit is 30, and they'll bust you for doing a mile over it. In the side streets, speed limit is now 25! They'll get you- so just watch out! It's a beautiful neighborhood with sprawling mansions and giant lots, and makes a great neighborhood to go jogging in.

There is a roundabout circle on McCullough Ave. that was probably designed for when the city first came about. It seems out of place now in modern times. They probably had in mind a constant flow of traffic without having people to stop. Not a lot of people know how to use these things these days. Just slow down into the circle, look left and yield. There's plenty of little boutique shops that dot this small "city" and a park but that's about it. Enjoy your day!

So as I started to register my vehicle from out of state, I began my journey to get all my cars registered in Texas. So I had an irritating experience at the south side one. The lady at counter told me one thing then when I came back a few months later everything sh3 told was wrong and I wasted months getting everything together. When I returned to a different person told myball that I brought was not needed.. So in short if you have business to get done DONT go to the south side one.

This has been my go-to voting site for years and I've always had a great experience!…read more Since this is the official Bexar County Elections Department they always have security at the entrance and they make sure no one using their phone while waiting to vote. I like that this is indoors, so even if there's a line, you are probably going to wait comfortably inside the building. While you wait, they have some amazing posters with some history about voting through the decades and how much it's changed throughout the years. This location has about 15 voting screens, so the line usually moves really quickly. The process is always very seamless and the staff working there is very friendly. Let's go out and vote San Antonio!

This, one mid Spring morning, I decided to walk to and on the bridge with a friend. I will say, it was worth the walk. Truthfully, there is not much to see, but it does have some very nice spots to stop and look at native plants in the area. It also has some viewing boxes for sitting in the shade and observing fauna. I enjoyed the walk because it was different and it gave an alternative route to the park. I expected to see the Parkway (Wurzbach) from the bridge, but it's really not easy to see for safety reasons. However, one can see it was well planned and definitely, invites the visitor to look at the plants. During our walk, the area was a bit dry, as we have been going through a drought, but I'm sure it's spiffed up a bit with the recent rains. In any case, I do believe it is worth a visit.

My division has a resiliency day to include team building activity. We decided most of us are…read morecomfortable meeting outside so the land bridge would be a great place to have team bonding. Our Division Chief coordinated a presentation from a park guide and she gave us great perspective on the land bridge to include how it got funded, details of the build, and animal sightings. After the presentation our group headed out to walk the land bridge. It's about a 0.5 mile walk. If not paying attention you'll realize you walked across after you walked. It was pretty quiet and patrons are respectful of each other.

Several times a year, The CCIS hosts a spaghetti and meatball dinner as a fundraiser (plus they also teach FREE Italian language classes.) I haven't been to the Catholic church yet, but spending the day in Little Italy might be a good way to spend a Sunday... church, spaghetti dinner, followed by a walk in the park then down to San Pedro Creek next door.

The spaghetti dinner is their open house. They have the dinner to benefit local law enforcement. Local cadets help with the volunteer work to bring out the food, and the meatball eating contest between San Antonio Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff is always a good opportunity to shout words of encouragement at first responders. I like how this place is named after Colombo, the TV cop from the 70s, and benefits the police! The meeting hall is two stories, with plenty of room to hold a party or an Italian themed party. Molto Bene! This place is the Little Italy for San Antonio! The Colombus Society and building is all connected to a nice park with lots of brickwork and places to sit and watch the traffic go by. They've previously had to cover up the statue to Christopher Columbus in the front of this place on Indigenous Peoples Day to prevent it from being vandalized again. There's a large homeless crowd that likes to hang out in the front of this place at times. It is a good place to start off a tour of the San Pedro Springs Cultural Park, as it backs right up to the start of it.

In this parking area situated under the freeway, you'll find examples of most of San Antonio's most talented mural artists. Each artist was given a support strut to paint, so there's no cohesive theme per se. It's just a wild array of different styles of art on the supports that are, like, twenty feet tall. Super Instagrammable! Look out for the works by Nik Soupe and Robert Tatum! Cool stuff! The art "gallery" is right down the street from the San Antonio Museum of Art, which is a cool add on to this trip. You can see some other murals by one of the artists, Soupe down the way at the San Antonio Current building, on N St Marys down the street. It's in the middle of a parking lot, so of course, parking is easy. It's right next to Ceverezeria Chipultapec, which is an artsy restaurant/cantina, so it's a nice combo.
