For such unhygienic conditions, the hotel only offered a one-night refund. This is unacceptable and does not reflect the protocols or service expected from a 5-star property.

During my first stay, I ended up booking what was sold as a two bedroom room. It turned out to be a room that was just divided by curtains. It was also a a room facing commercial Rd which also happens to be the home to a thumping night club that went all night for numerous nights. I couldn't sleep! I was told there was nothing they could do for me and they couldn't give me an alternative room. Suck it up buttercup! On this stay I checked in on a Saturday and immediately reported that my TV doesn't work. Nothing was done to fix it. Tonight (Monday) I wanted to watch the final day of the ashes cricket. I got to my room hoping they'd finally fixed my tv. Nope, they couldn't give a sh1t it seems. I had to go down to reception to plead for them to fix it, because the phone system doesn't work either. Rose on reception basically said, Yeah...... I know, other people have complained as well. I said ok, but fix it. Rose said, nah, theirs nothing I can do, not my responsibility. That's it! Nada, who cares, it's done, thanks for staying. This place is just poorly run. Don't stay here! Spend your money somewhere that they care and deserve your hard earned.

We were about a block away from the tram, two blocks away from the bridge and the river, and everyone around us is just a convenience with 7-11s and cafes everywhere just in case you need something else. The stay here is very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely stay here again for our next visit in Melbourne.

Just a short walk to Burke St Mall, Melbourne's famous lane ways, Federation Square and those places people go to watch sports. Me recommendation is to pull up Yelp and scan for good places to eat. The room I stayed in offered a view of the Yarra River and the expanse of Melbourne. In the early morning, I could catch sight of hot air balloons hovering about. It was serene. Their service was what impressed me the most. The concierge was extremely helpful. There were many hotel guests but he still managed to tend to all of us. He spent time searching for info for me, even this tiny bar/lounge I casually inquired about. Housekeeping kept things neat and made my stay comfortable. For the turndown service, they always put out a display of fancy chocolates. They were so decadent I almost bought a whole box. When I realized my cell phone was missing, I was already in Sydney. I figured it was pretty much a goner but I tried anyway and called everywhere that I could think of. Needless to say, I was elated when the Sofitel staff answered my call, "We've found your phone. Just tell me where you'd like it shipped to. No worries!" Whew indeed because there's no way I was flying back to Melbourne for that. I returned to the US two weeks after and my phone was waiting for me. Brilliant mate!

Well, the Sofitel at the top end of Collins Street does not fail to impress. The room we stayed in was incredible with a bed the size of a house. The bed sheets and linen felt like they had as high a thread count as I've encountered in the past. And the room was set up with many different options in terms of lighting and multimedia. If I was to have one gripe in the room it would be that the bath that had the shower in it was slightly to thin, making showering a tad uncomfortable. Besides a little gripe, the place was (as you'd expect) excellently run. I asked the staff to store by bike in a safe lockup. They did and fetched it for me extremely promptly in the morning. For a hotel with lots of stars and a big price tag, the Sofitel lived up to my high expectations.

I appreciated that they even offered different types of pillows, including memory foam. There were plugs for your devices on the nightstand and even a wireless charging pad and high speed WiFi. Completely modern features. Mezzanine area had breakfast in the morning, snacks throughout the day, and a free wine bar in the late afternoon. Breakfast featured great items like scrambled eggs, poached eggs with hollandaise, bacon, sausages, fruit, breads, pastries yogurt, specialty coffee machine and various teas. There's even a billiard table. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. The hotel is centrally located with shops, cafes, bodegas, and restaurants all within a short walk. We even walked from the bus station with our luggage. I would without a doubt stay here again.

Hotel: stairs to the main entrance (terrible if you have bags... NO bellhop or hotel staff to greet you when you walk in). Must walk thru a restaurant with your bags unless you are smart enough to guess there is a side entrance where your taxi can drop you off and even then (no bellhop or trolly) if you are traveling with family or with more than one luggage this is super tiresome...this hotel is centrally located, but there are many others that are also centrally located that are just as good as this one (I moved to a different hotel after one night at this one). Very outdated rooms in a very old building. Hotel rooms have no views (my room faced another building's wall). I booked directly with the hotel to get the "happy hour" perk but I don't think it's worth it if the trade off is staying at this hotel. My room: queens suite... the picture of the room exploited on the site and other sites are deceiving, they make it look like the living room and kitchenette is divided by a wall. Not true. In fact it's divided by a Big TV on an early 90s tv stand (ikea has better furniture than this place) and on the photos the bathroom is focused on the shower bc they don't want to show you that there's a big washer machine below the sink and your bathroom is pretty much a laundry room. The size of room is like a small cabin on a cruise ship and it's def decorated like an early 90s cruise ship cabin. Have you ever stayed at a travelodge where they put the "this seat has been sanitized" paper around the toilet lid? Well, this one def came with that. Only perk is: Molton brown products. Other perk: the service and staff was good Major con: Feng Shui super off, didn't know what kind of hotel this was (family, couple?) just didn't fit any brand... Also... is this place haunted? The mattress and pillows are high quality as is the shower. If you want a bite or drink we found the hotel bar to be surprisingly reasonable price wise and the pizza we had was really good! Location wise - it's a bit away from the center but you can't go wrong as the free tram is steps away and gets you to 99% of what you want to do - FREE!! The Skybus is also less than a block away as well. If you need it, a giant ass mall is across the street. Plenty of cafes, bars, shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk. I had to walk out a side door around to the back where my ground floor room door is just open to the public which never feels as safe to me. There were two people on chairs outside their room chatting which was just weird. What the heck are they doing hanging out in a hotel parking lot? The room is clean and comfortable but it is VERY loud. Traffic noise and music/talking/yelling from a nearby bar or party won't make it easy to sleep tonight. Sometimes even great service doesn't cut it when it sounds like there's a freeway and disco across the road. I suppose it was cheap though.

Luckily they do hospitality better then arithmetic and the St. Kilda location is no exception. This boutique budget hotel is located one street back from Acland street and the esplanade, and here lies both the reason for staying here and the reason to not. The location cannot be beaten in St Kilda. Your minutes away restaurant, bars, shops, transport and the beach. This is fantastic obviously! The trouble is if your allocated a front facing room, it may get a bit loud at night, all night(mostly due to the popular backpackers across the road.) The hotel rate includes parking which is a godsend in St Kilda. The service here was fantastic, the check-in process was one of the fastest and smoothest I have experienced and upon requesting an Internet cable they had it ready when I popped down to reception, I didn't even have to ask for it! The room itself was furnished with chairs that look like art pieces but are actually very uncomfortable to sit in and the bed was soft. The LCD flat screen on the wall was great, as was the large desk area in the Deluxe King. The rooms themselves are standard. great value to a budget hotel but missing polish for a boutique offering. The bathroom wasn't memorable, although I was let down by the lack of bathtub. For some reason I like to have the option of a bath while in a hotel, though rarely use it! The included Continental breakfast was standard hotel fare but in a great cafe/bar area which improved the experience.

Most suites are 1-2 bedrooms, kitchen, dining area and living room. Some suites have balconies. Everything you possible need for a great stay is there. Cookware, dishes, washer/dryer, etc. furnishings are extremely comfortable and fresh. Main restaurant serves a large breakfast in the mornings. Pre-booking the breakfast gives you a discount. I am a total breakfast person and was not blown away with the taste and quality. However, I was able to cook my own in our suite. The location was ideal. Directly in the CBD and only 3 blocks from the free tram of a visitor. Free city tour meets in front of the library twice daily. Library is 3 blocks. Less than a block from large gates of Chinatown. Within 6 blocks you will find superb shopping. Train to other Australian cities just minutes a way. Obviously I cannot stress enough how ideal the location is. Ask front desk for suggestions on good. Lots of great places. Front desk also very helpful with luggage and calling rides. In town though everything is walkable and easy to find. Personal side note: do not miss the street art in Melbourne. It is world renowned and very impressive.

It was in a convenient location in the city center, near plenty of places, trains and trams. I also really enjoyed the common areas, such as the 24/7 theater. The kitchen was large and offered free breakfast on Sunday. This included pancakes, cereal, oatmeal, bread. Eggs or at least fruit would have been nice. Now the not so great: I stayed in a room of 4 females and the room itself was small and narrow. Someone had placed their large suitcase right by the door so there wasn't much room to get in. Also, on one of the empty beds, the sheets were in disarray so I did not feel comfortable with that. Of course I chose the other bed to sleep on. The rest of my stay, that one bed was never cleaned even though I mentioned it to front desk and cleaning person. It definitely made me feel uneasy. At least I did not stay in the room much... Really only to sleep. In addition, the communal bathrooms were pretty messy, but showers were not too bad. Front desk staff was friendly enough. I met some nice people and had some lovely conversations while on the rooftop. I might consider coming back to stay here, but would look into other options first.
