The staff, especially, Tony and Eric are so good to us. They welcome us so kindly ever time we arrive and tell the staff and students how much they appreciate us every visit. The volunteers who sign us in are always pleasant to work with including Gladys, Mary, and Susie A snack cart and water are passed around often also. They were in the news for having their own internal issues and may not get funding from the county due to their inability to assist the homeless. I would not even try to get them to help in San Jose. We need a task force and better planning from the Governor, Mayor and County to get anything done to get people out of the rivers, ponds and streets. The beds are rickety…read moremetal bunk beds that most have to hop into if they have been assigned the top bunk. it's a large room with tens of people in bunk beds. and each bed has a thin mat on it, like a gym mat. That's how stupidly thin they are. They have a program called New Start. It's basically work for the homeless people at the shelter but they don't get paid, have to work 8 hours ever day (no day off). And the privileges they get because of New Start doesn't add up to the work they put in daily. The Case workers they assign and give to the homeless people don't give them many resources and often times tell the homeless person what to do once and then never meet with them unless asked to. No regular meetings. Social Workers are meant to meet you once every week. I have photographic proof ofSpoiled food they give too. The workers all seem like they work there just for money and not to help other human beings who are struggling to get by. It's so inhumane and cruel and the Home First homeless shelter (2011 Little Orchard St, San Jose, CA 95125) is the one I'm writing about. My friend lives there and often tells me about these things and I've went with them to see and I've seen horrible things from this place.

Simply told that that "didn't look good for me" and I moved on because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I didn't have a guilty conscience for something I didn't do. I told them they could thoroughly search me and my belongings considering I didn't own so much as a lighter. I guess that wasnt good enough because a few days later I was told that a member of the board had moved to have me evicted. With no real evidence whatsoever. That's what you get for being honest with these people. False accusations and threats to be put out on your butt. And from what another woman living there told me I'm far from the first person to have that happen. And all of this within not even a full week of me staying there. I didn't stick around to see what else could possibly go wrong living there, I packed up my stuff, left, and moved in with the father of my child with whom my relationship is incredibly strained, because I had no other options The woman who live there are lovely, and even the staff themselves conducts themselves in a friendly manner, but if you have any skeletons in your closet whatsoever, be prepared to be treated like a criminal and probably be the first one to be accused if anything happens.

Came on a Monday morning and was immediately greeted and had to check in. Great cause with each box is able to feed a family of four which is always amazing. Packed boxes for rice, placed instructions on each pack on how to cook rice for the first hour and then transitioned to making boxes of green apples. Highly recommend if you have time please volunteer because your contribution does matter.

Having volunteered in the past, I had some free time and decided to put that to a good cause. This particular location is a food sorting the distribution center. The 5 days (2 hour shifts) I was there we sorted apples, carrots, pears, built boxes (I liked doing that), made vegetable boxes etc. Sorting the bad batch of zucchini was tough but very satisfying to see how much we were able to salvage. They have a great staff who are helpful and friendly and super organized. You sign up for shits online, you check in via text, get your badge and after a 5 minute safety lecture you wash up and sort. it is also nice to see local companies have organized groups there as well I would give them more stars if yelp would let me
