They also said they'd connect me to an agency that would help me during this process. They didn't help Finally, life moves called me 2 weeks after my first contact. I only had 10 days and they knew that By a miracle, I was able to secure housing. It's frightening to go through this kind of thing. I hope others have better luck than I did going forward.

I called and was thrilled they are able to accept prepared meals. I explained that I would cook everything the day of and deliver it w/in 2hrs. I did this in between emails, meetings, and reports but somehow got it done. This was 27 meals and a box of individually wrapped masks donated to this organization. I am so grateful that I am in the position to still be able to help. I also will never forget the times I didn't even have $12 for a pair of shoes for my son (Walmart). Today the San Jose Mercury News reports a fatal stabbing at Julian Street Inn, the supposedly safer mental health facility down the street ... A FATAL STABBING AT A "SAFE AND SOBER PLACE!" I am delighted to be far, far away both literally and figuratively. Go there if you need to eat but don't drink the Kool-Aid.

The staff, especially, Tony and Eric are so good to us. They welcome us so kindly ever time we arrive and tell the staff and students how much they appreciate us every visit. The volunteers who sign us in are always pleasant to work with including Gladys, Mary, and Susie A snack cart and water are passed around often also. If you are looking for some place to volunteer on a Wednesday and/or Thursday from 9am-12pm and be well respected and appreciated, this is the place to be

They were in the news for having their own internal issues and may not get funding from the county due to their inability to assist the homeless. I would not even try to get them to help in San Jose. We need a task force and better planning from the Governor, Mayor and County to get anything done to get people out of the rivers, ponds and streets. Our government is failing us so how can we expect nonprofits to get anything done either?

They give out spoiled food. Or food that is very close to their spoil date. The beds are rickety…read moremetal bunk beds that most have to hop into if they have been assigned the top bunk. it's a large room with tens of people in bunk beds. and each bed has a thin mat on it, like a gym mat. That's how stupidly thin they are. They have a program called New Start. It's basically work for the homeless people at the shelter but they don't get paid, have to work 8 hours ever day (no day off). And the privileges they get because of New Start doesn't add up to the work they put in daily. The Case workers they assign and give to the homeless people don't give them many resources and often times tell the homeless person what to do once and then never meet with them unless asked to. No regular meetings. Social Workers are meant to meet you once every week. I have photographic proof ofSpoiled food they give too. The workers all seem like they work there just for money and not to help other human beings who are struggling to get by. It's so inhumane and cruel and the Home First homeless shelter (2011 Little Orchard St, San Jose, CA 95125) is the one I'm writing about. My friend lives there and often tells me about these things and I've went with them to see and I've seen horrible things from this place.

Stayed there for less than a week, got accused "by a staff member" my second day being there of…read moresmoking pot in the house (definitely smelled it that morning though) was open and honest the entire time that I had smoked a few times during my pregnancy before coming there, and I wouldn't pass a drug test as I smoked the night before I left my hometown to move to Siena House. Simply told that that "didn't look good for me" and I moved on because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I didn't have a guilty conscience for something I didn't do. I told them they could thoroughly search me and my belongings considering I didn't own so much as a lighter. I guess that wasnt good enough because a few days later I was told that a member of the board had moved to have me evicted. With no real evidence whatsoever. That's what you get for being honest with these people. False accusations and threats to be put out on your butt. And from what another woman living there told me I'm far from the first person to have that happen. And all of this within not even a full week of me staying there. I didn't stick around to see what else could possibly go wrong living there, I packed up my stuff, left, and moved in with the father of my child with whom my relationship is incredibly strained, because I had no other options The woman who live there are lovely, and even the staff themselves conducts themselves in a friendly manner, but if you have any skeletons in your closet whatsoever, be prepared to be treated like a criminal and probably be the first one to be accused if anything happens.
