During our three days in Barcelona, Cervecería Ciudad Condal was the very first tapas restaurant we visited -- and it turned out to be the absolute best! Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. I wish I knew all the Spanish names of the dishes because everything was amazing. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. On top of the incredible food, the restaurant itself has such an elegant atmosphere with beautiful décor that made the whole dining experience even more special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!
Came here on the strong recommendation of a friend. Usually people recommend places and I am not impressed. This place really impressed me. I hope it wasn't because we had walked about 25k steps by the time we got there but because the place was so darn good! We got there around 630pm on a Monday evening got seated right away. When we left an hour later there was a line to get in. Amaya was our waiter and he was wonderful. We knew we wanted to try the following dishes: Razorback clams 5/5: I've only seen these in NY and had them stir fried. These were steamed and perfectly tender. Of the 3 pieces I ate, one had that funny tang at the end but the other two were great. Squeezed a little lemon on top and it was perfection! Creamy Asparagus and mushroom 3/5: Dunno why everyone says to order this. It was okay but nothing special to it. A good hit of garlic I suppose but nothing to write home about. Spanish omelette 5/5: It really tasted like a melt in your mouth scalloped au gratin. But the combination of tender potatoes, cream and light egg just melts in your mouth. Loved the little buttered tomatoe bread too to balance the "omelette". Amaya, our awesome waiter wanted to surprise us with his recommendations. They were: Suckling pig 4/5: I had wanted to try this and the first bite was disappointing too salty but when I added some of the orange sauce it balanced it out perfectly. Very tender but I wouldn't order it again. Prawn skewer 5/5: Wow. That's all there is to say. The prawn and calamari rings were so tender and the prawns were fresh and juicy. Cooked to perfection. Cod with "olivado" 5/5: This was the best dish by far. The fish was flakey tender and the cheese? with hint of tomatoes was all balanced to well. I thought the hubs was going to lick his plate! For dessert he ordered us the "torrija" which tasted like a combination of donut, cream, and creme brûlée. 5/5! The combination of flavors and textures in your mouth was sooooo good! We also had a half pitcher of sangria and some sparkling water. The ambiance is upbeat and even though it was crowded, it wasn't noisy. It's a very pretty space and fairly large. I would say this was one of my best meals ever. You need to come to this place!
Got this reco from a fellow Yelper. This was my favorite dining experience in Barcelona. Arrived at noon on a weekday with a party of 6 without reservations. The restaurant is quite large, so they were able to seat us since the locals seem to eat at 1 PM. Servers were very friendly and spoke quite a bit of English. They gave us a Catalan/Spanish Menu as well as an English menu. The servers mentioned that tables are available for 1.5 hours and then they ask you to leave. We had no problems with the timing as the food comes out quickly after ordering. The food - recommended without reservations Burnt Saint Teresa "torrija" - easily my favorite dessert on the trip, maybe the best overall dish. If a popover, cream puff, and a crème brûlée got together and had a baby, this dessert would be the result. Eggy-bready on the outside, cream filling, and a caramelized sugar crust on top. I saw some people post a picture of this dessert and label it "bread pudding". That's like posting a picture of the Sistine Chapel and calling it "paint on stone". "Cabreaos" style eggs - "angry" eggs - a bowl of shoestring fries + chile sauce + 2 sunny side up eggs - this is all cut up and mixed table-side. Eat it quick while it's still crispy. Grilled Razor Clams and Grilled Galician Clams - very fresh seafood, simply prepared. Cooked to perfection. Creamy mushrooms assortment - if you like mushrooms, you like this dish. Comes with an egg yolk that gets mixed in. Codfish with honey "aioli" - the fish has a bit of chew to it - maybe slightly underdone. Honey adds quite a bit of sweetness. Never had this pairing before and definitely worth trying. Recommended Chocolate with churros - 5 thin pieces of churro. The chocolate is one of the better ones we had on the trip - more chocolate flavor and very smooth (not a broken emulsion) Fried Mix - squid, cuttlefish, small fishes, padron pepper - the peppers look like shishitos, but they don't have any heat. Everything was cooked well, but I liked the small fish the best. These were ok - Lobster Rice - their version of paella? There were visible lobster shells on top. I prefer a more traditional paella. Unbelievable tapas in Barcelona and the place to be. The value is phenomenal for the amount and quality of food you get. They have all the classic tapas and a rotating menu of seasonal and special options. We got a little of everything and cannot recommend this place enough.
Visiting from out of country. This is a tapas restaurant. The food was good, we were seated outside after a 10 minute wait. There were quite a few people. The beef tenderloin was too raw for our liking and we asked to have it medium and they were nice about it. We tried lots of stuff and would recommend it. Just be prepared for the wait and ask for the English menu.
Food was excellent, but the service on the day of going was really non-existent from the time of waiting, to seating, and being served. The hostess had our party stand in the restaurant for a good 20 min after being called in ready only to realize our table wasn't going to be. Our server was new, day one on the job, at a very hectic spot which I empathize with. The selection of tapas and postres was well worth the wait though, and everything tasted great so would be back. I'm sure other experiences and future experiences could be better.
This is the type of Tapas place I was looking for in Barcelona. The menu had tastes of everything I could have wanted to try. It was great, but the special of the night was the best lamb I have ever had. It was a toasted style with thinly cut potatoes and peppers with a sauce that tied it all together perfectly! Desert was amazing as well; but the "Torrija" Cremada de Sta. Teresa was the best desert I had all trip. A fusion of cream burly top and a filling wrapped in an upscale churro skin that was perfect. The service was top notch, freindky staff that were attentive abs even cut up our favorite dessert when we struggled with it. We ate outside and the rustle and bustle did not bother us what so ever. Highly recommend this place.
We had a lovely table upstairs and a very knowledgeable and helpful server. The food was excellent, we had tomato bread, sliced fried artichokes, and a spread, Brie, candied walnut and honey baguette. My wife topped it off with a crème brûlée bread pudding she loved with a cappuccino. Lovely place make sure you know the street names and number when looking as it is an unassuming facade. It's worth the wait if you have one.
We came here twice while in Barcelona. The service is typical Spain and they don't come by frequently, but once the food is ordered it's put to the table very quickly. This is an excellent spot for tapas. The wait isn't long and it's totally worth it.
Fiancée and I stopped in here for dinner our very first night visiting Barcelona off of a recommendation from a friend. This place was amazing. The vibe, ambiance and decor were cozy and looked great. We were able to be seated right away and the wait staff was with us immediately. We ordered a few different tapas including sliced meats and Patatas Bravas. Everything was delicious! We also ordered a pitcher of Cava Sangria and couldn't recommend it more. Check this place out if you're ever in the area.
Ciutat Comtal was a restaurant that I had seen recommended numerous times while I was searching for places to eat at in Barcelona, and after coming here I can see why. I came here for lunch, and thankfully I didn't have to wait too long before I got seated inside. The interior is a bit on the smaller side, but it's quite bright with a lot of natural sunlight inside. For the food, I decided to get squid, codfish with honey allioli, and iberian ham montaditos. While all of the food was great, for me the codfish was hands-down the star of the show and probably one of the best dishes that I ate on the trip. The flavor of the sauce combined with the texture of the fish actually blew me away, and I can see why my server highly recommended this to me. If you just get one things when coming here, definitely make sure not to miss this dish. Highly recommend checking this place out for Spanish tapas, they represent the cuisine well!
One of the best tapas place my friends and I visited while staying the week in Barcelona. This place is very accommodating for the space and time that it is opened until. Service was quick and no complaints. Food was AMAZING!!! You just have to try it - flavor is rich and has a lot of depth. It's more on the heavier side in terms of palette so come hungry :) The space was well lit, spacious, and was very nice for a late night visit.

Thought we would have to wait a bit to get seated, but there's a lot of seating both indoor and outdoor. Even with so many customers, their service was rather fast and efficient. Once we got seated, they wasted no time and asked us if we were ready to order. We ordered a few traditional Spanish tapas, which we were all very delightful CALAMARI ANDALUSIAN: Loved this! The batter was very thin and the calamari were all very thick and bouncy! These were so easy to eat and the citrus from the lemon cut the oiliness from the calamari. CROQUETTES: Crispy on the outside, soft and buttery inside. I loved the croquettes and could probably inhale a ton of these. PAPAS FRITAS: I'm not a huge papas fritas fan, but my boyfriend is and he loved the sauce and seasoning on the potatoes. The potatoes were crispy on the outside, but soft and pillowy inside as well. TENDERLOIN AND FOIE GRAS MONTADITO: I didn't love this as much especially for what it's worth. The tenderloin was hard to chew through and the foie gras just seemed a little extra on top of it. Nothing about the flavors really stood out. But the one item that deserves a category of it is own is the TORRIGA QUEMADA DE STA TERESA. Oh my goodness! This bread pudding was amazing! The custard was brûlée and toasty, but creamy and rich. Even the bread soaked in everything and was creamy and very flavorful. If there's anything you should get, it's this! read more
Came in for lunch and only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table for 4. The hostess was very friendly. She then led us upstairs to our table that was against a wall near the waiters station. Service wasn't speedy but we got everything we ordered and everything was so good!! Even our simple steak sandwich was so delicious!! I am so glad we were able to enjoy lunch here! read more
Absolutely amazing!!! We found this place on a whim, down the street from another bar. We sat under the tents near a firepit. We ordered several tapas and they all tasted AMAZING. The service was fantastic. They were on point and always took away our empty dishes quickly. We ordered 7 tapas and ALL of them were amazing. The sangria was good as well. I will highly recommend this place and honestly, I hope we come back once more before we head home to the states. FYI the owner is the same for both Ciutat and Anxoita. 5 stars all around! read more

We had our first meal and our last meal in Barcelona here. Both times we were seated almost immediately, but we did see lines when we left. Timing is everything. Service was fast and the two waiters that we had were both friendly and brought our food quickly. We liked the asparagus and mushrooms so much that we got it both times. The patatas bravas and the churros with chocolate were also repeats. The flan was very good and the squid tentacles were delicious but sold out by our second visit. Our least favorite was the grilled spring onions. The restaurant is fairly large and has outdoor seating. read more
This place was recommended by the concierge last time I was in Barcelona. Last night I decided to give it a try since the line was not long as I expected. Looks small, but as soon as you walk in you see the seafood they have on display. That was a plus showing a huge variety to choose from. The hosts was great seating me promptly and the guys at the bar was great and friendly. The menu has so much to choose from I would try everything if I could. If you want fresh seafood tapas, I would go to Ciutat Comtal for sure. read more

Tapas were delicious here. I would definitely get the asparagus and mushrooms, and razor clams again. The mini cheeseburger and hot dog were delicious but way too small. I knew mini meant they were small but I didn't think they were going to be bites. The sardine and red pepper sandwich was good but memorable. Papatas bravas were perfectly deep fried, so eat when hot. read more
Dropped in for a late meal at around 10:30pm after walking around El National. We first tried the Cod in honey. I didn't expect it to look like that but it was good. It had a nice sweet tomato sauce. Crab with prawn: it is prawn, pickle and imitation crab over bread. It reminded me of a California roll temaki due to the amount of imitation crab. Foie gras and tenderloin over bread: the Foie gras is so rich and melts in your mouth. The tenderloin I wish was a little bit overcooked. Service: we were served by an older gentleman and he was so nice. He was very apologetic for forgetting one of our orders. read more
Spectacular food, just spectacular and I was pleased with each and every tapas dish. Cuitat Comtal, at least this location, was very much centrally located for shopping, sight seeing and eating. For starters, it's just really busy at all times of the day but we were able to snag a table on both occasions that we went. Yes, with limited time in a foreign city, I went back for another meal. I seldom do that because there's just way too much to try. Maybe Buttery Company (Quezon City) and In N Out (Cali) - I've gone back twice during a short trip/vacation. For starters once again, the receptionist and all the wait staff and bartenders all speak fluent English. My high school Spanish only takes me so far but you don't have to be concerned here. As for the food, I checked out the previous reviews and pics and I zeroed in on 1) the Foie gras on sirloin (so rich and juicy) on a slice of baguette and 2) the Saint Teresa's divine dessert (sponge cake/creme brûlée combination). And Everything else was icing on the cake!! The sangria was perfect after logging 20,000 steps, the fresh seafood, calamari, spicy shrimp, figs topped with Iberian ham. I just can't rave about this place enough. This is really a 10 star review. Muy Bien Cuitat Comtal - your amigo will return. That Foie gras and sirloin keeps me up at night, there's a longing deep in my heart. read more
We'd met an Irish couple that raved about their meal at Ciutat Comtal so checked them out for a late meal. We dropped in on a Monday evening (10:45pm) and there was no wait. The inside is massive. Our server spoke perfect English but wasn't attentive. There was no "today's tapas" sheet included with the English menu. - Copa blanco casa (2,85€) - house white was drinkable. Likely a Sauvignon blanc. - Vermut de reus (3,35€) - decent. - 13 pimientos de padron (3,20€) - 13 fried hot green peppers. Not charred much. They sprinkled salt flakes on top, but quite plain. - Xampinyons i espàrrecs planxa (6,15€) - grilled asparagus and mushroom. Asparagus was very plain. Mushrooms slightly better. Reminded me of when I cook vegetables at home. - Anchoas del cantabrico (6,95€) - anchovies were incredibly salty. Must have been canned. - Bacalao allioli miel (13,45€) - codfish with honey aioli. Best dish of the night. Cod was tender, melt in your mouth. The honey sauce worked wonders. - Crema catalana (3,25€) - overburnt the top but the cream was light and airy. - Xocolata 3 textures (3,25€) - not too sweet with a nice contrasting texture. Stick to ordering the seafood and dessert items at CC. 3.5 stars. read more
Came here on a Saturday at 10am. We did not have to wait in line as it was an early snack time. Seated right away at a table for four and placed order for four drinks and two dishes to share. Beef tenderloin came out first, I loved how the beef was cooked. For some it could be considered rare or even raw. They did not ask us how we would like it to be cooked. But that's how I like the meat cooked but my mom did not so she did not even try. However, it was incredible. Codfish with honey was really good but to me it was a little to sweet because of the honey. I think this is one of the most popular dishes at this restaurant and I could see why. Overall, beef tenderloin was amazing, codfish with honey was good, too but a little too much honey to me. Cool atmosphere, attentive servers, check payment made at the hallway between the counter bar and the restaurant, which was a little but confusing. But recommend this place! read more
Wow, this place was packed when we arrived! It was 6 of us and we only waited about 15 mins! It was totally worth the wait! Our waiter just picked out the most popular tapas for us and we did not disappoint! We had foie gras with beef, lobster wrapped with bacon, shrimp, salmon with mushrooms and pearl onion, cod, Iberico with garlic bread, crab croquettes! He was so nice and friendly and even took a picture of our group for us! The limon beer was light and tasty! It was really busy and people just kept coming! Came at around 6 pm on a weekday in December and no wait! I heard from a friend in Barcelona that you don't need a reservation as long as you come before 8/9 ish. But there were lots of people inside. It's a very big restaurant that is super nicely decorated. Great ambiance. Our waiter was funny, nice, and had great recommendations. We got the cod with honey, pan con tomate, patatas bravas, fried calamari, and Spanish omelette. All were amazing but my favorite was probably the omelette. And for dessert we got torrijas de Santa Teresa which was amazing. Highly recommend, definitely very authentic and great and good price too! read more

Good place for tapas, good ambiance- a little loud and crowded. Kids loved the mini cheeseburger sliders. The Iberian ham served with figs is really good! Tried a couple of other tapas and overall good! read more
a classy joint and quite busy on a weekday...restaurant is filled with both locals and tourists...browsing the menu and looking up pictures online...endless tapas available and small plates perfect to try a variety...starting with a cold beer 3,25 euros and appetizers...potatoes with ailoi and spicy tomato sauce 5,15 euros...croquetes 2,20 euros....potatoes were crispy cubes with two sauces to dip...quite tasty...croquetes seems to be good anywhere we order from...delicate center with a nice crispy outer crunch...cod in sweet honey sauce 13,75 euros was an interesting flavor, but prefer savory...razor clams 11,45 euros was fresh and delicious...steak and foie 7,35 euros was a perfect large bite...so juicy, fatty and tasty...mini hamburguesa 3,55 euros was the perfect size for a kid...ending with fresh churros with hot chocolate 3,55 euros...50,25 euros total for a feast for 3 people...love the restaurants in spain and ciutat comtal is one the favorites during our visit... read more

Let me start by saying how delicious this place is. Everything we tried was spot on! The service is impressively quick. Despite arriving without reservations at 9 PM on a Friday, we were seated promptly. Next time we're in Barcelona, we will definitely return to Ciutat Comtal. Some standout dishes were the cod, the mini burgers, the crema catalana, and my all-time favorite, the torreja Sta Teresa! read more

I was persuaded to come here but quickly figured out it's a tourist trap. The food is decent but you can find much better quality at much better prices, with much better service elsewhere. Avoid this place! And if by chance you didn't listen and came here anyway, check your tab carefully. We had items we didn't order added to our tab and I had a sneaking suspicion it wasn't by accident. read more

The food was just heavenly. Every bite you take is an adventure. Anything and everything we tried was awesome. My personal favorite was 3 layer chocolate, which was one of a kind. Ciutat Comtal is decently priced and the service is top-notch. The ambiance is like you would expect, bustling but relaxed at the same time. I highly recommend Ciutat Comtal, you should try it at least once. read more

We were immediately seated at the bar. Servers were nice. The food was good. We really enjoyed the roasted peppers. The sirloin with foie gras on top was very rich. The churros were nice and crunchy. The crema catalana was like a creme brûlée. read more

The food was great -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented -- but what really made our visit stand out was the outstanding service. Our waitress, Thelma, was fantastic! She was warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome from start to finish. It's rare to find service this genuine. Highly recommend stopping by, and if you can, ask for Thelma -- she'll make your meal even better! read more

I love this restaurant!! The food was terrific, the service outstanding, the ambience is great. It's a very busy place but if you can get a seat at the tapas bar, it is a wonderful experience! We ordered a few but as the chefs were creating new ones and they served, we would just ask for one of those... one of those ... just awesome. It was so good, we went to their sister restaurant the next day for lunch. The filet mignon with foie gras is amazing, the tuna/anchovy, all the traditional, too hard to mention them all. Attached are some pictures but this a must go to in Barcelona - it will be a most treasured memory of food while visiting this great city! read more

I think we had a bit of everything on their favorites list on the menu and all were muy excellente. The beef tenderloin montaditro foie, mini hamburger, the croquettes, the omlette, and finished with the churros. The atmosphere and service were just as incredible as the tapas! read more
