Feeling SO refreshed after my trip to Civana!!! Everything was perfection, and I'm already planning my next visit. The spa was phenomenal. I had the Marine Oxygen Facial with Jennifer. My skin was glowing and feeling great afterwards. The aqua therapy rooms, sauna, and steam room were amazing as well. All of the food was high-quality and delicious. I personally loved the charred octopus appetizer, salmon filets, matcha pancakes, and vegan mac n' cheese. Wanted to shout out Joshua, Kalkidan, and Yolanda at Terras. Your service above and beyond. My boyfriend and I stayed at CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa from Friday through Monday on a somewhat impromptu trip we planned only four days in advance, and we had a wonderful experience. The property is beautiful, quiet, and very clean, with plenty of space to relax. Even though we booked last minute, we were still able to get into several classes and activities, including a few we had been waitlisted for. Our room was also very nice and spotless. What truly stood out was the amazing staff. Kathleen at the front desk kindly helped check my boyfriend in early when my flight was delayed by five hours and the reservation was under my name. We also had a fantastic meal at Terras with Yolanda (highly recommend the Eggplant) and had a blast doing the high ropes course with Abe. The biggest thank you goes to Yessica in housekeeping. On the morning of checkout I unknowingly lost a one-carat diamond earring that even though was insured, I was devastated to have lost. I didn't realize it wasn't in my ear until I was almost at the airport and promptly called the resort. Yessica immediately organized a search, and although it wasn't in our bathroom as I originally thought, her team eventually located it elsewhere on the property near the restaurant/lobby. I am incredibly grateful to Yessica and the CIVANA team for going above and beyond to return something so meaningful. I will absolutely recommend this resort to everyone I know. I chose to purchase a day pass to Civana for my birthday in the hopes of having a relaxing day and having a little reset as I entered my next year of life. I left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the experience. Each person that assisted me throughout the day was friendly and helpful. Civana is well maintained and clean. I started with the steam room while I waited for my first class. Body Love was a phenomenal class. I read the description but had no idea I would end up crying in a room full of women with shared experiences. I highly recommend this class to anyone that just needs to start a better journey within themselves. Alden provided an almost magical hot stone massage. The pressure was perfect and he was attentive to the spots on my body that needed the most work. The Frequency class offered an experience that was new to me, but I left wanting to learn more. The salt water pool was refreshing. I tried the poke bowl and a couple of the Paloma spritz. Both were well crafted. I came here for a staycation with my husband. This is a wellness resort and we wanted to focus our time on relaxation. They offer a lot of wellness classes and we went to several (you are allowed 2 per day with your stay), including a myofascial release class, an athletic workout class with weights, and a meditation class. All of the classes were very good. The room was beautiful and I appreciated the aromatherapy bath products. The view from the resort was peaceful. We didn't book any spa treatments because they were all so expensive! They sounded interesting, but since I have a go-to massage place in town, I chose to make an appointment there afterwards instead. I would have appreciated seeing a broader variety of price points on the spa menu though. The restaurant, Terras, and the cafe, Seed, were both cute and had good options for good and drinks. The vibe is very serene and peaceful. It was a good place to come for a staycation. read more

One of the perks of living in AZ is having so many phenomenal properties with world renowned spas nearby. While people visit from all over the world, us locals get to enjoy these incredible properties with staycations and daycations. I have been following Civana for a while now and it has been on my list to visit. So this year, a few girlfriends and I decided to check it out for our annual mother's day spa experience. We all opted for spa treatments that give you access to all of the amenities within the spa. This includes a relaxing water circuit with three temperatures from cold plunge to a hot tub. They also have a sauna, steam room, and offer several lounges with seating as well as fruit infused water stations and snacks such as nuts. Let's not forget about the pool that overlooks the beautiful desert views. We had a fabulous time enjoying all the amenities. My only complaint is that the pool service was painfully slow. It took us nearly 45 minutes to order and receive beverages and our food took even longer to arrive. They were completely understaffed, epically with a kitchen that is a six minute one way walk from the pool. All of the guests were shocked that it was so slow and understaffed, especially because he spa could see how many guests would be coming in for services that day. I hope that they rectify this issue in the future because there's no reason they should be so understaffed on a busy holiday such as Mother's Day. We didn't get to check out their wellness classes this visit, but I would love to return and experience those offerings one day as well. The property itself is stunning so once they solve their drink and food service at the spa pool I'm sure it'll be an even more incredible experience for spa guests. read more

It sounds silly or maybe implausible that a one-day experience can have a lasting effect on someone, but that's what I got at Civana. I got there early in the morning to take full advantage of my day pass. The property is beautiful and peaceful, and signs all around the grounds remind people to be quiet. The classes I took were helpful and interesting. Stretching was a good way to start the day, aerial yoga was tough but fun, the chakra balancing/sound healing was so relaxing that I fell asleep and the gratitude ceremony at the end of the day was really meaningful. I got an anti-aging probiotic facial, which felt amazing, and my friends told me I looked refreshed for days afterward. The spa has plenty of amenities including a pool, sauna, refreshments and several spaces to relax in. I ate two meals there--one at Seed, the cafe, and one at Terra, the nicer restaurant. Both were great, but I particularly loved the tuna tartare with blue corn tortilla chips at Terra. Really, Civana is like another world even though it's still in metro Phoenix. I can't say enough good things about it, and I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a getaway. read more

I came during memorial weekend for a solo trip, and to my surprise the resort wasn't as packed as I thought it would be. I signed up for classes prior to coming to the resort just in case I wasn't able to get into any classes, but I feel some classes weren't too full when I actually arrived. Check in went smooth and easy. The lady at the front desk was very nice and accommodating if I had any questions. She actually walked all the way to my room which I appreciated. They give everyone a water bottle and have water stations around the resort to keep us hydrated. Loved that! Arizona weather is hot so if you aren't used to that type of heat - Please bring sunscreen, hat, shades, etc to keep you cool. Especially for the hike! They advise you to pick your classes early but a tip. If the class isn't cancelled by 5pm the day prior they will CHARGE you a $15 late cancellation fee. Keep that in mind. All the wellness classes were very good, even though I wasn't able to take all of them the ones I did really impacted me in a great way. All the instructions were good but the guest teacher Veronica really knows how to communicate and resonate with everyone in her classes. The only con I would say I wasn't the biggest fan of the food. Majority bland, not really fulfilling. The filet mignon, smashed avocado, green goodness smoothie, and salmon tacos were my top favorites. I can say the drinks were pretty good, and the bartenders at the bar were always so helpful if you had any questions. All in all, I would recommend anyone to take a trip down here, even come by yourself. You will meet other travelers who are solo or anybody just wanting the same experience. I have stayed here a few times. Each has been a treat. I've only been met with kindness and love here. While I am here I try to do as many activities as possible. I loved the burning ceremony, the facial massage class, guitar yoga and spending time at the pool. I love the quiet voices, beautiful landscape, and the ability to each lunch in a robe (I didn't but it's cute that you have that option). It's the most comfortable bed and the most relaxing nights sleep a person can get. The spa prices were reasonable and the experience was good overall. I love that you can use the facilities all day. I put my stuff away in the locker room, did a class, and later returned to the spa. I got to come here with a friend during her visit from CA and we had a wonderful time. read more

First time going to a place like this to relax and recenter. Loved the ability to try different types of classes physical and mental/introspective. Room - nicely put together and I found the bed comfortable but my husband said it was a little soft. Good bedding and they provided robes but no slippers. It was quiet but we did have a room at the end of the hall which was nice. Liked facing north so the sun didn't come into the room. I really appreciated the separate room for the toilet and having two sinks. All the class leaders were great. Also enjoyed the hike leaders and we learned so much. Very friendly staff all around. Loved that it had self parking so could go explore other areas on our own with our rental car. Dinner menu looked fine but would have been repetitive if we ate there the whole time and easy to drive to other places. Tip: Watch for black Friday deals. Also sign up for their email as we have been getting discounts after our trip. I would skip the hot stone massage as it costs more but is not a traditional hot stone massage I think due to being only 60 min. But my Swedish massage was amazing. The spa area with different pools was nice after or before a massage but not sure I would pay for the class that walks you through it all or just pay for access. They don't really advertise but there is a nice regular hot-tub next to the outdoor pool. read more

Amazing wellness resort, and literally everything I was looking for. I heard great things about this resort, so I was really excited to visit last month. First off, they have so many classes and activities going on all day that it's literally impossible to be bored. I packed my schedule full of classes, but my favorites included the feng shui, journaling, and cycling. They also have an amazing spa here you need to visit... I had the best deep tissue massage ever and got to use the spa amenities for the day. They also have a beautiful outdoor pool and some hammocks/chairs outside so you can definitely take advantage when the weather is nice. The resort itself is so calming and relaxing, I truly couldn't recommend it enough. The only downside is that I'm forever spoiled now, and not sure if I could ever visit another spa because this one was amazing. I'm hoping to make this a yearly tradition, so I'll definitely be back!! read more

We shall see... My friend and I are traveling next week for a five day spa retreat trip to visit here. We booked everything online including treatments and classes. I'm now getting blown up on Instagram with ads (I'm excited and I don't mind that), but one of the ads shows a class floating in a pool with a sound bath. I didn't see that on the schedule so called today. It took them 2 hours to call me back AND the woman who returned my call was anything but friendly. I remained sticky sweet nice, asked her about that class option, and she told me it's not something they offer but it's coming soon. WHAT? Take that off your ads and site - completely misleading. And now I'm seeing the reviews and I'm worried about our expensive trip with flights, a rental car, the stay itself, etc. Hoping it's good and will definitely report back. read more

The hotel and spa are beautiful and the food is delicious! We started with a hot stone massage with tuning forks and it was heavenly. I had stress I didn't even know I was holding onto, and it was just melted away! Then I did a wonderful class held by Veronica, lunch at the spa and another Veronica class! I had a matcha vanilla latte from their cafe and it was delicious. The food was also good from the restaurant but the service was slow and I felt like we got forgotten about (and we were one of like 5 tables) so it was a little off putting. Classes not selling certain techniques as cure alls (had an instructor say yoga completely cured her depression) 5. The price lol (it just felt a tad overpriced). The good: 1. Rooms were comfortable and clean. 2. Parking was free. 3. Healing waters class was a 10/10 4. Amazing service by everyone. 5. Housekeeping daily. The ugly: 1. Some of the class descriptions could've been so much better (instructors said this + I saw people leaving classes midway because it wasn't what they thought it would be) 2. The free classes aren't free because you're paying $15 a day for them. Some of them are straight up lectures where you're just sitting and listening to someone talk. 3. They make a lot of incorrect references to Indian culture. Yoga is a spiritual practice sure, but playing prayers was weird. I am scheduled to go back here on their all-inclusive package for the sixth time. I love this place but their Customer Service has gone to h*ll. It is literally impossible to call and have a human being answer. I tried to call twice this morning and not only did the recording not tell me I had a wait time of (insert #) and if I wanted a call back I could press "2" as it has done for the last six months (which is bad enough), it immediately said there are no agents available and to leave a message. For a resort that regards itself as a world class resort and spa, this is ridiculous. If you want to turn people off who are considering coming and spending their hard earned money, you might consider having an actual human being pick up the phone! read more

Spent a full day here and I have never walked out of an establishment feeling more refreshed. The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. I had a massage that applied the perfect amount of pressure and released tensions I didn't even know I had. I also attended two group classes that taught me so much about myself. I came for a girls weekend and we enjoyed every aspect of Civana. Firstly, the grounds were not crowded at all which was great because it allowed us to really enjoy the space. Second the customer service is absolutely spot on! Everyone from the receptionist to the class instructors to the restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful. I also loved that upon arrival they give you a water bottle which is super convenient. They have a variety of wellness classes you can choose from. My friend enjoyed the numerology class while I really enjoyed the workout classes. There are a few places to eat but I will say they are pricey. Overall I am looking forward to building my wellness trip again at Civana. 10/10 hands down! read more

visited Civana with my friends for my birthday last October, and OMG--what was supposed to be a relaxing celebration turned into one headache after another. The Shipping Disaster: This was by far the worst part. I asked them to ship my items home--my candle, intention manifestation book, and some personal items I purchased. First, they forgot to send the box entirely. When they finally did ship something, it wasn't even my stuff--it was my friend's! Just imagine if it hadn't been a friend but a stranger receiving my personal belongings. I had to call again, wait ANOTHER two weeks for them to send my actual items, and they never once reached out to apologize to my friend. They dismissed the whole situation like it didn't matter. And the shipping refund they promised me for all of this? The incident happened in October. I didn't get my refund until January. That's three months. The Treatment: I had booked a specific treatment (still looking up the name), but the staff member forgot to provide half of it. * Imagine paying for something special on your birthday and only getting part of what you signed up for (they did give me a discount, but I wanted my birthday treatment).  The Dinner: My birthday dinner was ruined by painfully slow service. The food took so long that we skipped the birthday candle entirely. The Classes: Completely unorganized and ultimately a waste of both money and time. In the candle-making class, the instructor gave us no real direction. She literally said, "Set an intention and make it." That was it--no instructions, no tips, nothing to help beginners. Later, I learned there's actually an art to placing the crystals in the candle. Without guidance, mine was a total flop and a complete waste of the fee I paid--I ended up throwing it away. The One Positive: I did misplace my journal, and to their credit, they were honest enough to return it to me. But that small honesty doesn't make up for the chaos. Bottom line: The entire experience was chaotic, unprofessional, and way too stressful for what should have been a special, relaxing birthday trip. If you are looking for luxury and relaxation, this is not the place. Until they seriously get their act together, I cannot recommend Civana. read more

Bare with me on this one! The booking process with a very small group of women was an absolute nightmare for our host. I want to say we did not stay the night we went in for the SPA plus 2 classes. Leading up to the day they did not have some of our reservations, changed the class times and double booked us only to have everything mostly filled up and then switched our service times for some of us when we got there. When we got there that morning their "systems were down" so we had to wait to confirm again and after our issues we wanted to make sure. We ate in the restaurant and while the food was all delicious we had a reservation and when we showed up to the empty restaurant the host said, oh, i'm not 100 percent ready for you and had to move tables...it was comical at this point. Service was slow, we got food before drinks and they missed a few items which we had to remind the twice. We were given $50 credit for all the issues. Pool service ends at 4pm so be aware which seems really early! The actual service itself and classes I did take were fantastic and the vibe is wonderful they just have some major back of the house issues to deal with. Drink and food prices were as expected for a nice spa but the service at the restaurant didn't live up to it. read more

I visited for a full day via a resort pass day pass. This option was awesome for me since I was only in Phoenix for the weekend with my husband while he was working. I came in January so it was a bit too cold for the outdoor pool but I fully took advantage of the other amenities. I started off my day with an outdoor spin class on the tennis courts. It was great to be in the open air & we even heard some coyotes in the distance. Next I was off to the spa to use the steam room, sauna, cool hot circuit & cold bucket. Everything was very clean, peaceful & well kept. I had lunch at the cafe & enjoyed a kava drink as I walked the labyrinth. My last class of the day was face yoga. I thought it was very unique & educational. If the weather hadn't been so bad I would have stayed a bit longer for a sound bath but it was just too cold to enjoy an outdoor class. Overall I had a great time. The grounds were beautiful, complimentary water is available throughout and it's a very calming atmosphere. I'll be back again I'm sure! read more

Wow, what a way to treat yourself. Visited CIVANA in June 2024 and it was so worth it. As many mentioned before the differences between staying at Miraval but this resort cuts pretty close. At CIVANA you were able to stay at the resort without purchasing the all-inclusive pass. We did this and the rates were reasonable. After our visit we were only $200 dollar short of the all-inclusive rate with one less spa treatment. We utilize all amenities, including up to two pre-book classes. They offer complementary (included in the resort fee) and fee based classes. Since we booked in advance, the availability was wide open and could book as early as six weeks prior to your stay. This came in handy as once we got close to our arrival most of the classes were booked to capacity. The complaint with the classes is that some were the same just with different names. The class descriptions could slightly more descriptive. The service was high-quality and nothing to complain about. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We did have a slight hiccup with our room, but they were able resolve the problem Quickly. They even addressed things that we didn't even notice and was quick to come to a resolution. The spa itself deserves 10 stars. It was spacious, luxe, and offered a great amount of amenities. It had a hydrotherapy circuit, steam room, sauna, additional pool and several areas to relax in. The only complaint was since it was during the summer, the spa closed at 4:30PM (summer hours). It was packed! There was about 20 people waiting for a spa service at 2:15PM which it became crowded. The food was fresh and farm to table. Portions were on the smaller side for the amount you paid, but everything was flavorful. Highly recommend the chicken dish for dinner. The Matcha pancakes for breakfast. And the turkey pesto Panini from the seed for lunch. There's not much in Carefree, AZ and everything closes in town on Sundays around five. Overall, highly recommend CIVANA as your next all inclusive spa destination. read more

So glad we were able to come here on our girls weekend in Arizona! We got day passes to Civana and had a great time! We purchased day passes with a massage; as part of the guest pass you have access to: an outdoor pool, a eucalyptus steam room, a circuit room with a sauna, cold/hot pools, and a deluge. Also, the day spa pass comes with access to two classes per person that day. I took a really nice barre class and my friends went to a sound bath meditation. Unfortunately, no one told us to book the classes ahead of time so nothing else was available. The temperature of the water at the pool was perfect, everything was clean and well maintained. The massages were nice and relaxing as well. One thing we didn't love was the fact that the cafe and the pool side drinks/food closed at 4. Our massage service wasn't until 6:30 so we were quite hungry most of the day. The drinks at the bar were underwhelming and the food from Terras, the onsite restaurant was just ok. We really wanted smoothies but you couldn't get one after 4 pm! read more

It's a very relaxing, very accepting environment, not to mention beautiful surroundings that can only be found in the Sonoran desert. Dubraska created a great atmosphere for the sound bath experience...highly recommended. (5/5) Breathworks (can't remember her name) sounded a little too hokey for me, but ended up being one of the coolest experiences. It feels weird...do it anyway. (5/5) The sauna, per my Russian friend, is not warm enough...even "cold" by her standards. I, on the other hand, thought it to be perfectly hot enough for my thin, weak skin. Nice resort, but no Miraval. (First world problems, here!) We discovered CIVANA on a Google search for a girlfriend getaway. Overall, very nice, beautiful and great spa. Definitely a great resort and incredible landscape. The experience was definitely nice, but I think I may have been spoiled by going to Miraval. The spa was beautiful but the services weren't quite 5 star. The hotel rooms were underwhelming, and the walls were really thin - thankfully I went during a slow time in November, so it wasn't too loud, but I could hear every person walking by and talking. That said, the spa king TUB in the room was amazing. The food was good but got old after 4 days there, as there were no specials to mix things up? That said, excellent customer service, awesome free water bottle on check in, and generally two thumbs up! PS Definitely worth paying for an amazing hike. The intermediate was easy, IMO, but beautiful and worth doing! read more

Wow this was the most perfect restorative girls getaway my friend and I could have asked for!!! Civana was a dream come true with an incredible spa, a la carte activities such as hiking, yoga, sound bowl sessions and much more! The best part is that this wellness resort has a bar and cocktails available! We started the trip off right with a fun mixology class after we checked in. The drinks were delicious and beautiful! The spa was incredible. Definitely check in as early as you can to take advantage of the spa facilities including hot/cold pools, sauna, steam rooms, and outdoor pool with full service food & drinks! There's also an amazing relaxation area with beautiful views upstairs. There's beds and lounge areas for you to nap as you please. We felt incredibly zen and calm after our spa day! You get complimentary water bottles in your room upon arrival. We reserved and tried out several other classes and activities including sound bowl session, yoga, hiking and more. There's more we wanted to try but just couldn't fit it all in! Our only complaint was the disappointing room service meals. For the price and how nice the place is, the in room dining was kind of a let down. It was delivered in flimsy containers and the food was mediocre and a very small amount. Perhaps it would have been better if we tried the restaurant. We spent about $100 for the in room dining so would have expected something nice orworth the money. We feel like they should charge less for the in room dining as we just didn't feel like it was worth it or as great and up to par with the rest of our experiences at Civana. The poolside food/drinks and service were fantastic! The rooms were nice and cozy, equipped with bathrobes, cute coffee/tea/water station and the best bathroom toiletry products! Spent 3 nights here for a mommy get away with another mom friend. It was very relaxing. Service was great, food was fresh and delicious. There's only 1 restaurant and cafe only thing I would suggest is having more options. We loved the classes and the instructors were all very good. I will definitely be back! read more

This is a challenging review, because Civana has a lot of potential but missed the mark on several big issues. The price for my stay wasn't too bad, but I did not go for the all-inclusive option, which would've more than doubled my cost. Frankly, the bad reviews here on Yelp and other sites made me too afraid to invest in the all-inclusive because of services issues in the restaurant and the spa. They've also recently added a resort fee, which is a pet peeve of mine. They don't offer a free shuttle to/from the airport, like most other destination spas - but they will happily charge you $135 each way for a ride. The restaurant is really expensive, and the menu is really limited, so I didn't dine there at all. There's a little cafe as well, but also very limited menu options. You can get some of those items at the pool as well (I included a photo of the pool menu as I hadn't seen it online). I hit up a grocery store on my way to Civana, and then either rode a bike or walked into town each day for lunch. (The ride into town is downhill. The ride back to Civana is not. ;) - just a heads-up!) ;) The room itself was quite nice. Comfortable bedding. I hated the scent of the toiletries, and the bathroom only had a shower (rooms with a tub were over $100 more a night). Noise came through from other rooms (including from a couple that had a very long and heated argument one night). The grounds are nice - you definitely want a room on the second floor, as the first floor rooms are right at the walkway path and if you've got a patio, everyone is walking right by you (and I'm sure the noise is worse). The classes were a mixed bag for me. A couple were quite good, but several were not good and two were so bad that I left early. (I showed my physical therapist one of the stretches that I had been shown at Civana, and she said no one should ever do a stretch like that!) Many classes were "sold out", but every single one I attended had no-shows (even the floating guided meditation, which is a very small class because of equipment, had a no-show, which worked out for the gal who decided to show up, just in case). You had to cancel by 5pm the day prior to avoid a $15 cancellation fee, so I'm kinda surprised at how many people just didn't show up. It's really cold at night here in the fall/winter - so pack accordingly. I did a "sunset" meditation class that was actually almost 2 hours after sunset, and it was so frigid outside, I was shivering. I had to leave because there was no way to relax into that while lying on a thin yoga mat with one blanket. I think if I had looked at this as a regular hotel getaway, I'd be happier about it. But without a car, it's a big effort to get out to any other restaurants. The classes were a big draw for me, but mostly a disappointment. I am glad I didn't do the all-inclusive, but if I go back, I'd get a rental car so at least I could more easily get some good meals! read more

Never visited a wellness resort before and this won't be my last time at CIVANA. The resort itself is stunning, with cacti, flowers, and beautiful architecture. It felt like I was transported to a serene wonderland and the stress of the world was nonexistent. I'm kicking myself for not visiting the outdoor fireplace at night or the other gardens and yoga lawn. My room was nice especially the bathroom and had a spacious patio, but so many mosquitoes the first night. I had at least 5 bites when I woke up. Staff was quick to have someone come out and treat my room and outdoor area and it helped a little. I would love to stay in the same room again when I return. The Seed cafe and Terras restaurant can be pricey-ish depending on your budget but almost everything I ordered was a 10/10 and so worth it. The ingredients were fresh, flavorful and health conscious. My faves were the salmon toast, matcha latte, rise and shine protein shake, and the sweet potato wedges. The only dish I wasn't a fan of was the mushroom bolognese, pretty underwhelming. Drink-wise, I was addicted to mezcalitas! I think I had one every day, so refreshing with the right amount of spice/smokiness (idk) from the mezcal. You have to try it! This is the best spa I've ever been to. So beautiful with gorgeous mountain views! Loved the relaxation area on the balcony and the aqua-therapy areas. Brittani was the sweetest person I encountered there, she gave me a great tour of the spa and talked about the culture at CIVANA. And she was right you can really tell people truly love working here, she was such a light! My massage with Terry was phenomenal as well the best deep massage I've had yet, to the point I needed her to lighten up a bit, but I also didn't want it to end. I wish I spent more time at the spa but I sandwiched it between two classes. At least 1/2 a day needs to be dedicated to the spa to get to experience everything, unless you plan to visit multiple times during your stay. I enjoyed all the classes I signed up for except for one, the class was fine but I learned I wasn't a Barre girly after 15 min and left. Standouts were the aerial yoga, breathing for life, journaling for transformation and a rebound trampoline class with Rachael Brooke, she was my favorite instructor all week. I ended up crying at her guided labyrinth meditation on my last night, she's truly remarkable and I hope to take a class with her again in the future. You start seeing the same people with each class you go to and I ended the week with a few new friends! It felt like we were all at camp going through our own journeys together, such beautiful connectedness. This wellness resort was far better than I expected. I kept saying I wish I could've stayed one more day. The staff are remarkable from the moment you step on the property, everyone is so kind and helpful, even when you come to the desk 3+ times on your first day asking for directions (sorry lol). The sweetest thing they did was leave a surprise gift for me in my room for my birthday: bubbly, a sweet card and healing crystals. The manager of the restaurant who saw me daily gave me a grapefruit hibiscus mimosa during my last morning. I hugged so many people on my way out, I was kind of bummed to leave. Staff is great, spa services very good and many relaxation areas not to mention stunning views due to this ideal location! Pools, aqua therapy and sauna are really nice! You can tell the place is a bit dated (it used to be Carefree Conference Center) but it still provides for a zen experience especially with such a fantastic location away from the city. Classes were full on great, this is an area where the resort truly shines (love the yoga outdoors)! What is causing my 4 star rating is the food situation. Seed is the small cafe /market on site. Unfortunately it is not an actual kitchen so everything is already prepackaged and squirreled away in a fridge only to be taken out once you order it. I wholeheartedly expected them to make my beautiful $18 kale salad fresh but in fact, it was already prepackaged in a small plastic container and very small with simply 3 ingredients Kale (eek, not even softened so brittle and hard), pumpkin seeds, radishes. Hard to accept that price for maybe $2 in ingredients. Overnight oats were $9. I realize it is a resort but I expected better quality, larger portions and fresh ingredients. I didn't feel that was what was offered with a prepackaged food (no protein, that's extra!!), sold at a premium price. I did not try the full service restaurant Terra, but while walking by, I did notice the portions were quite small and heard overpriced. My advice would be to take as much food as possible, and snacks or you will be relegated to overpriced and small menus. Staying on the topic of food, they offer water, chamomile tea and fruit, but the fruit was tasteless and bananas overripe. I would strongly suggest they have some type of healthy crackers, snack mix or nuts in addition to the fruit. Overall, this is a lovely resort that has so much to offer if they could only improve on the food situation. The resort is beautiful, and very tranquil. All of our classes, services and treatments (except for one massage) were great. We both especially enjoyed the watsu. The whole place was spotless. The food at both restaurants was delicious, and the service was very good. The classes were very good and most of the staff was outstanding, and attentive to special needs. There was one class that was misdescibed. The description made it sound like it was a slower paced movement class, however it was a straight up fast paced dance class. One of my massages, which was supposed to be a relaxing treatment was anything but. The therapist (I think his name was Rocco) used so much pressure, that when he pressed on my back i could feel my rib cage compressing and expanding. I told him I needed him to lighten up, which he did for a couple of minutes. I told the spa desk and asked to not be scheduled with him again. The menus were limited and needed a few more options for those of us staying longer than a couple of days. It is very unfortunate that the patrons sitting outside at the bar were very loud. This meant sitting on our balcony in the evening was not very relaxing. I tried to book a manicure and pedicure when I booked everything else, but was told to call back later that the schedule wasn't up yet. When I did call back I was told the nail tech would be contacting me. Never happened. When I arrived I asked and was told I was on a wait list. Turns out there's one tech, who is only there part time. They should not advertise these services. At checkout I let the front desk know what happened. They did give us a credit on our bill. The biggest issue was that people gave different information in answer to the same question. The lack of organization made for some confusion at times. We were on an inclusive plan which ended at noon on our last day, and we're entitled to lunch that day. However the policy is that you must be finished you meal and your tab closed out before noon. So lunch the last day was not the last meal experience we wanted, we ate take out at the smaller eatery so we would not have to rush. All in all I would probably try it again. read more

After seeing a lot of buzz over the years, my husband and I made our way to Civana for a one night staycation recently. We'd both remembered the property from it's previous days as the Carefree Resort & Conference Center, so we were impressed with the renovation upon arrival and throughout our stay. Highlights of our stay were the wellness classes including Numerology and Yoga + Functional Movement with Anton. We also took a Journaling class, used the fitness center on our own, sat by the pool briefly, toured the spa, and had several meals/snacks at Seed Cafe. The majority of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful... Due to our short stay, we did not end up dining at Terras as we headed out to Cave Creek for our one dinner meal. We would both like to return and dine there next time, experience more classes and down time, as well as pamper ourselves in the spa! We interacted with some of the other guests, which we enjoyed and it seems that Civana is really making a name for itself in terms of becoming a destination for folks out of the state and country. For locals, there are day pass options available through Resort Pass, which I may also check out in the future. read more

The organization and process management of Civana needs a major upgrade!! Sadly, Mollie the Spa Coordinator and later Rachel the Spa Manager still couldn't figure out how to schedule services and classes for a party of 7. We started the organization of the weekwnd in October for a spa day in mid-Januray.. with many, many, many back and forth emails to coordinate Mollie who haf major difficulty organizing, I thought everything was organized and settled. A couple days before we areived, members of the party got messages that their services were never booked, classes overlapped. After reaching out to Mollie with no response, I finally spoke with Rachel. Unfortunately, after her reassuance that the mess was fixed, it wasn't. Check in was a mess. Classes still overlapped, services never showed up in program schedules, computers were down, so they couldn't provide keys. I asked for them to contact me when everything was up... they never did. We booked at the very empty Terras restaurant, but the table wasn't ready. Restaurant 101... read and ready the reservations. The one saving grace was the rest of the staff that provided services and led classes, were awesome! Sadly, the spa was rather empty... We will be back at the Fairmont Princess next year (definitely not Civana), which provides amazing organization and services and amazing staff!! read more
