Decided to try out kickboxing based on a friend's recommendation and was extremely happy with our decision. We were able to grab a 1-month deal of unlimited classes from our friend's CKO subscription email.  On our first class, we had a quick 5 minute tutorial on kickboxing moves. The instructors will continue on with the lessons but also keep an eye out for the beginners to help them with their moves. At first, it was difficult to keep up but as time went on, it became a bit easier to follow along. I definitely did lose some weight while I was here for 2 months and would come back again after trying other options.  For beginners, highly recommend you to take Kelly's classes! Her song selection is great and her classes are beginner friendly and you get to do a lot of freestyle so that is the perfect chance to practice and get your frustrations out on the bag. read more

First time coming here. All of the staff were extremely nice! I did Kat's Prince themed class which was awesome! The facility is not super big but has some lockers and two bathrooms. Large area to work out in and the bags are good quality. They sell wraps, water and merch if you need it. I believe you can also rent gloves or buy them if needed. read more

I signed up for a two weeks trial with ClassPass. When I looked for kickboxing, I saw Cko Kickboxing was an option. On a Wednesday night at 6pm, I took it with Kristine as an instructor. She greeted me when I walked in the studio. Moreover, she handled me off to her colleague who taught me and another new student certain moves and kicks. The class started on time. Moreover, Kristine's instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Based on my Apple Watch, I burned 633 calories in her one hour class. Anyone and I mean 'Anyone' who is looking to lose weight, i prove their cardio and gain strength and confidence needs to come to KO Park Slope. CKO is not a MMA gym; it does not have that vibe. Most of the 'striking' is on heavy bags; not each other. :) CKO does have MMA experienced instructors however who will show you the correct fight stance, footwork, jab, cross, hook, etc. and leg kicks. They have pad classes for the more advanced members as well as partner work. Everyone respects each others levels and efforts. You can't go wrong starting with any instructors for your first class but I find Instructor Martin is very good at checking in on new and current members during the class. read more

Like all the other negative reviews above, the 16-week challenge is a total scam. They do not openly inform you that you are actually signing up for a year of classes, not just the 16-week special - and you cannot cancel. After about 2 1/2 to 3 months, the pain (from all of the unsupervised and untrained kickboxing) in my hips, knees, and ankles was so much that I had to stop, and unless you go to a doctor and get a letter indicating that you cannot handle the intense contact sport pressure, you are forced to continue to pay for a service you no longer use. Get ready for quite a workout. Adriana varies the routine, but demonstrates each one twice and keeps an eye on how everyone is doing. The place is clean and well-run. Post-COVID experience: I signed up for a membership and have been going to the gym for 3 months. - classes: open gym concept for 45 minutes - you book/cancel the classes on the app. Depending on your class you have 12 rounds and you can either do your own workout or follow instructions on their paper. - sanitizing/cleanliness: every alternate bag is used but also there are always limited number of people in a class so you feel safe. Masks during class mandatory and temperature check at the beginning. There are some instructors I loved more than the others but overall great way to get your intense exercise in! read more

WARNING. This business operates a billing scam. They advertise a 16 week program, verbalize that the program is a 16 week financial commitment, provide no physical documentation otherwise, then show a digital document indicating you signed up for a 12 month membership when you complain. I came back September 8th and it is the best place to work out the bags are 6feet apart, The gym is always clean, Sanitizing wipes and sprays are everywhere, Trainers and members masks is always on, You wear your own gloves so there's nothing to touch, The class is 45 minutes and you get a full body workout. I've been a member since they opened the Park Slope location I believe around 2014. I'm still a member so that should tell you a lot. It's not just a gym but a family. Each trainer has a unique personality and brings something different to your experience. Kristine is like the fun sister, the one who would have you laughing even though the workout is hard as hell. Adriana is like the mother, the soft spoken, gentle one who would always want to know how things are going with you. Martin's workout would make you ache for days but in a good way, I can't get enough of the aches lol. Wade would make you question if your body can do what he's asking you to do lol. CKO Parkslope is the absolute best!! I started about a year ago and I feel like I've grown so much not only in my kickboxing skills but confidence as well. My favorite part about the gym is definitely all the instructors. They are all super professional and helpful. If I need help on a combination or technique, they are ALWAYS there to assist. I also appreciate how safe I feel at CKO Parkslope. The staff really puts in a huge effort to keep the gym clean and everyone wears masks during the workout and is six feet apart. I'm bringing a good friend in this weekend to try it out because she's been looking to get into kickboxing but feels intimidated to try on her own. Happy that this place is open for business! Really missed indoor group classes especially boxing. This is kick boxing so even better. I take off one star though however because it is difficult to follow along in this class. The instructor is in the middle of the room but cannot really see them around the bags and people. Then there is a television to watch them on (interesting concept b/c then your watching them backwards). If your just looking for a workout this is great for you but if your trying to really understand technique and learn kickboxing might want to go else where so you don't injure yourself. read more

I started coming here two and a half years ago because I went to the gym every day but was usually bored by it and wanted more variety. I also wanted to get good at something. The first few times I came here I was wiped out by the end of the class and needed about a week in between sessions here. But two years later I'm going 4 times a week. I used to struggle with planks lasting longer than 30 seconds and now they're nothing to me. My body hasn't radically changed on the outside, but I can definitely tell my physical fitness dramatically improved. I also learned and exercises I could do at home. On top of this, the trainers are all pretty friendly. They make an effort to remember your name. I have my favorites but I also trust that anyone teaching here will give me a good workout and won't make people feel like screwups if they struggle or need adjusting. I just wish more people would bring a clean pair of shoes to put on when they step on the mats. read more

I don't write yelp reviews, but needed to take a second to post about this place. I started at CKO about a year and a half ago with the three class deal and never looked back. Every instructor (and I stress every) is amazing and has their own personal flare, making each class unique and never boring. The vibe is super welcoming and even for introverted people like myself, you feel a sense of community. You can take classes at your own pace, but at the same time they push your limits, which is the only reason I can do push ups now. I'd give up my Netflix subscription before cancelling my CKO membership. PS It's female owned and they have spots in Carroll Gardens and Chelsea too! read more

Love this gym! Prior to signing up, I was hesitant to commit the majority of my workouts to a kickboxing gym, worried that my fitness abilities would be limited. However, having been a member for over a month now, I've only noticed my fitness and health improving! The instructors are really good at mixing up the workouts and making sure nothing feels monotonous. In particular, they know how to incorporate cardio and strength training into an exciting, effective hour-long workout. Due to my schedule, I haven't been able to test out a class by all of the instructors, so I can't really compare them - but I'm positive that they're all wonderful. It's really about finding your match as an athlete and a member of the gym; an ideal instructor for one person might be completely different for another! Diff teaching styles, diff learning styles, diff workout styles, etc etc ... there's something for everyone! I always try to get to Milton and Martin's classes. I've found that the ways they format their classes are the most compatible with my preferred workout style. Their classes are incredibly challenging (esp all the stuff Milton has come up with to throw at us!), but still exhilarating; I always walk out of their classes feeling great! Highly recommend! I've been around and in athletics most of my life, so a big concern of mine when joining a new fitness program is that I won't find it challenging. That said, I have yet to do a CKO workout and NOT feel sore the next few days. I've noticed myself toning up all over, and my mental and emotional states have been calmer, more focused (kickboxing has been an amazing way to get out my frustrations). The workouts can be modified for all fitness levels, and it's wonderful to show up at the gym and feel how welcoming the community is (it's not just targeting one small segment of the population like other programs). This review is long overdue. This gym has truly changed my life, I couldn't recommend it more. It is an fantastic workout; every class is different, and each instructor has their own slightly different style and approach (and playlist!) It will absolutely kick your butt, but you will never feel better. Not to mention that it is an AMAZING outlet for the every day stressors from living in NYC, I don't think I realized how much tension I was carrying around until was able to let it out on a regular basis. When I started CKO 2 years ago my resting heart rate was between 85 and 95 (definitely not ideal for a 31 yr old woman) and now I am happy to say it sits at a fabulous 55. Not only do I feel and look better, but that is a result that is a real indicator of how much CKO has changed me on the inside and out. I love CKO kickboxing at Park Slope. I'm so glad I signed up a year ago. During quarantine, even though it was online, it kept me motivated and moving. It was nice to have the consistency and something to look forward too. It's great to be back on the bag in person though. Covid procedures are strictly enforced with everyone wearing a mask, distanced between bags, temperature checks, and the bags are cleaned after every class. I leave class feeling refreshed and way less stressed then when I came in. The instructors are so kind and always willing to help. Booked my first CKO class via classpass, but end up using and getting the 3 classes + gloves for first timers at $20.00. I didn't know that gloves were not included and if you purchase them at CKO they are $25 so the deal seem way better. You will definitely be sweating alot, so I understand for hygiene purposes why they require you to have your own gloves. As for the space, it's pretty big with bathrooms, cubby hole storage and a good amount of stations. You get a quick orientation in the beginning with the instructor and then you go to your station and follow through the class. What I really like about this class was that you work at your own pace and it was a mix of kickboxing and then situps, burpees, jumprope etc. If you are looking for a cardio class, this is it. I also love the music they played during my class, really gets you hyped up for your workout. read more

The kickboxing class was great. I got a solid workout. The trainer was super cool and motivating. Everyone is friendly, which is awesome. The reasons they are getting three stars is because they don't really have a format for new people. I had to watch others in class most of the time to know what to do. Luckily, I use to box and kickbox, so I'm familiar with stance, etc. Also, the trainer didn't give me feedback about my form until after the workout. I have worked out with trainers personally. Form is crucial, a person can injure themselves if the form is off. I wish he gave on the spot feedback. I understand he was probably trying not to be too hard on me, but I'd rather that and than getting hurt. Lastly, they don't have showers. For the cost of the membership there could be at least showers. The hours work for any schedule, if you have the money and you need to get in shape. I recommend this place. read more

I've joined several gyms in the area over the past couple of years, but was never satisfied with any of their classes. They were crowded, had inconsistent instructors, and were overpriced for what you got. I came in using the triple play offer and purchased a membership after my second class. I had never done kickboxing before I tried CKO (I'm partial to spin classes), so the deal was too good to pass up with gloves included. I signed up for the triple play and came back a few days later to take another class. When the woman at the front desk greeted me by my first name I knew this was going to be a different type of gym experience. I get an amazing workout every time I go and even though the foundation of each class is the same, the classes are never monotonous. Every instructor has a different style (I've taken Martin, Rosa, Kristine and Carmen) and, unlike other gyms, here I can walk into any class knowing it's going to be great. I highly recommend CKO Park Slope. This is the best value for a gym in NYC. Firstly, don't be intimidated by the kickboxing. Its not hard to learn the basic movements and it may take a few weeks to get your bearings, but you will be getting incredible workouts as you learn. I really like the "class" format for exercise, because I simply do not work hard when I workout alone. I've tried expensive gyms and cheap gyms and cross fit and pretty much everything out there. CKO is the best interval training workout you can get. Awesome cardio and muscle building. My exercise focus is health, but I love how my body looks because of CKO. The classes are as intensive as you make them. You will probably start out slowly as you learn the basic exercises, but even after you have been going for 3-5 days a week, you can always challenge yourself to make every class an intense workout experience. So its great for the beginner and the advanced. Also, you can go to as many classes as you like. Other gyms limit the amount of classes you can attend. At CKO, you can attend every single class they have in a week. The value there is incredible! And the culture of the gym is great. Positive culture. Friendly trainers. Fun music. The trainers really make it fun. They push you, but also really respect your individual pace and limits. Finally, I just have to give specific shoutouts to Kristine and Kelly. They are my favorite instructors. They create really intuitive workouts that have a great rhythm. I feel like I am gushing here, but I'm in my mid-forties and now in the best shape of my life. This is a great workout! I love working out but hate feeling like I'm just going through the motions-I want to feel like I'm learning a skill and using my body specifically, not just burning as many calories as possible for no other reason than to burn calories. Kickboxing here is perfect for me for that reason! Great for beginners and experienced kickboxers because you do everything at your own pace. The combinations are a lot of fun and the circuit work always leaves me feeling strong! Kelly and Adriana are my fav instructors here and their routines are so creative. I always come home with new circuit work to do at home that's challenging and interesting. I love to run, do core/full body work (ie Pilates and barre) and yoga and this is a great addition to all that. If you come here, expect a great cardio and strengthening routine! When I walk into a regular gym, I am always unsure of what to do, which results in me hopping on a treadmill or elliptical for an hour or so and leaving. CKO is such a better workout because you still get that cardio but you are also building strength by punching the heavy bag, doing burpees and push ups, etc. All of the trainers are very nice and friendly. You go at your own pace and they will encourage you to push harder but will never make you feel bad about yourself. Each trainer has his or her own unique style as far as the pace of class and music selection, so I would recommend trying to go to each one's class at least once to see what meshes best with your preferences. They're all great though! My only wish is that there would be at least one afternoon weekend class available because I hate waking up early to work out. read more

Walked past and saw a sign in the window stating 3 sessons for $19.99 and thought "Wow what a great deal?!" The customer service at the front desk were very helpful and straightforward when it came to signing me up for the sessions. Each workout session was more intense than the last. I'm personally more into sparring with a partner instead of kicking a heavy bag. It was an experience to try once, I only see myself coming back here to purchase apparel. I travel 50 minutes on the 2 train to come here for 9am class on Saturdays. If that doesn't tell you how much I love this, I don't know what will. CKO is everything I have ever wanted in a workout - its an absolute sweat fest, you feel like a badass going to town on your heavy bag, you get incredibly conditioned with drills galore, and there's even some eye candy for good measure. I can't help but smile the whole time. People here come from all walks of life and fitness levels. I've taken classes with Andrea (she will have your abs on fire, those drills are no joke), Lee (classic, old school Rocky style training), and Vincent (great for beginners and I love the free form attack rounds). I signed up for a free trial class with Kelly, and it was the BEST workout of my life. Immediately after the class I signed up for a monthly unlimited membership for a price that fit into my budget. Usually I hesitate before signing up for anything, but this felt good, and I'm so tired of playing the maybe-next-time game. Kelly is very professional and instructive. She demonstrated the combos as she told us to do them which was very helpful. It is truly a go at your own place type of environment, which is perfect for me. You never want to feel like your holding a class up because you can't keep up the pace. Even after the workout I felt energized, which never happens.
