Since then, I've been a member of 2 other locations but returned to my OG location (Miramar) in January. I did take a break during the pandemic and I, like many others, gained some weight. I'm not lying when I say this gym literally saved my life. I will forever love and be thankful for finding CKO. The environment and vibe is like no other gym. If you are looking for the best gym in San Diego, you need to check out CKO Miramar! I've been a member of CKO for about 8 years (Maybe longer. I've lost track). I've tried other gyms before and nothing compares to CKO. Their fees are very reasonable compared to other gyms. You have access to unlimited kickboxing classes. If you want to upgrade your membership, you can also do weight training. The gym is very clean and they have showers for those that want to work out early and then head off to work after a quick shower. Plus you get to work out with 4 of the most amazing instructors. Brendon, Freddy, Brandon, and Francis will kick your butt (In a good way). Cheryl, one of the owners, also teaches on occasion and she will kick your butt too. I burn between 500 and 700 calories per class! My husband burns over 1000 calories during the same class. So not fair, but that's ok. The atmosphere of the gym is ver friendly and supportive. CKO Miramar has the best members. They will give you a high five or a shout out to encourage you to keep going. Come check out the gym and sign up for a free introductory class and get 2024 started on the right foot. Parking is plentiful and easily spotted off Miramar Road. The facility is spacious, well-maintained, and fully equipped. They also have a childcare room if you have kids. Classes are available throughout the day (at convenient times) and hardly crowded during the weekdays. I saw a Groupon deal for 3 classes with free boxing gloves and decided to give this new work-out a try. I was initially intimated, but right from the very start, owner, Nancy reassured me that it was a non-judgmental and supportive environment and she was absolutely right. I really felt welcomed from the initial interaction. She is exactly what all the other reviewers said: kind, passionate, and professional. She has a sweet and gentle soul. She also looks AMAZING ! OMG ! I aspire to look as fit as her at that age ! Inspiring ! She is a wonderful business owner and treats everyone with respect. She even goes beyond that and communicates with you via text to welcome you and see how you are doing and if you have any questions/concerns. She really does care about her clients. ENDORPHINS RELEASE "jab, jab, uppercut, hook, roundhouse" I sound like I'm in a video game like Street Fighter. It's alot more challenging then you'd think but overall good arm workout. It's a feel good session every time I come to CKO. Great outlet to release stress, tension, and negative energy through a good 1hr workout beating the sh*t out of a punching bag and doing circuit exercises. There are different instructors with different workout styles but all equally capable of making you release endorphins and teach you how to "kick" "box". I can run 13.1 miles with not much sweat but after an hour at CKO I am sweaty and gross!!! I bought the class package where they give you free gloves. The gloves are decent - comfortable and padded. I have my own open finger gloves in the event I don't want to use the default ones. They have an app to set up your schedule and they have classes being offered hourly in the mornings and afternoons everyday making it very convenient around your schedule. Classes aren't crowded but more attend on weekends than I've seen on weekdays. Win-win situation. Adding CKO to my workout routine. read more

Such an awesome place! I recently joined this past week after months of my sister trying to get me to attend a class. I gotta say - I have been missing out. The classes are paced really well, the staff is friendly and kind. I don't have experience with kickboxing or working out with type of cardio. I definitely know I need to improve on my endurance. I feel comfortable here and I have no regrets about becoming a member. If you're interested in learning kickboxing, having a good time while working out, and being around nice people - this is the place for you. I tried out CKO with a Groupon -- received 7 classes instead of 6 since I opted out of the gloves that came with it. Quite the friendly bunch of people you will ever come across. They don't enforce wraps under your gloves here probably because the boxing bags are hung low enough so that they sit on the ground slightly and don't swing around. Classes were pretty much structured the same: 5 to 10 minute warmup, followed by boxing combos on the bag, some running around mixed with bag hitting, and ending with some functional work at the TRX and weights section of the studio. All instructors pretty much followed this formula and added in their own creative combos (which they shout out for you to follow, 'jab-jab-cross-hook-hook') and colorful music selection. Monee focused more on speed and agility, and not so much form. Her favorite phrase was 'attack that bag' haha. Mike made sure you spent some more time at the bags and called out fairly simple and basic combos. Jeff I thought was the most unique and offered the most worthwhile class. His class structure focused on gradually building more challenging combos at the bags. He was especially watchful of everyone, coming around to offer corrections. He even came around with punching mitts for everyone to get in a series of one-on-one combos. I didn't get sore after the classes, but I was surprised by how many calories I burned after each! You really will be constantly moving throughout. Great for improving your technique in a relaxed setting or just letting off some steam with a good punch and kick session. read more

BEASTMODE! I have not trained outside my own gym at my apartment complex and on base for a very long time! Enter CKO Kickboxing! My wife has had an absolute blast coming here, so she invited me to come out with her. I was super pumped up, but not really sure what I gotten myself into! I got the down and dirty at the front counter right before the class started up. I did the 3 classes for $19.99 which came with free gloves. Gloves are decent, but I see myself buying a pair for long term. Monee was our instructor and she was super friendly to help me get started! She made went through the basics with me and realized I had some "prior" experience doing taekwondo when I was in high school! She said I would pick it back up quick, and she was right! I promised myself I would start slow, but by the end of the class, I was ripping it up! It felt so good to punch and kick a bag! I haven't sweated as much as I have at CKO in a very long time, even when I thought I was pushing myself hard. What I love about CKO is that it is truly an all levels experience. You can go as slow or as hard as you want. If you want progression, both Monee and Jeff show examples of easier or harder ways to do the circuits/rounds. The workout itself isn't what I call complicated, but I have a lot of experience with fitness and group fitness through the military. The thing about the three classes I've been to so far is that each class has been different each time. In fact, my last class was the hardest one! You really get to let loose when you want to and also dial it back a bit when you need to. I also love the team building when we get to work with each other. It's not a competition, it's inspiring. To see my wife give it her all makes me want to push even harder! Nancy and Cheryl both reached out to me via text and sent a card to make sure I had the best experience possible. CKO Kickboxing has hit all the marks for me! I can't wait to have a long term membership in the near future!!! (I'm shopping gloves now actually, during the writing of this review!!!!) Absolutely enjoyed CKO Boxing! I've never done a kickboxing class before and always wanted to do so- so I found CKO boxing because it was the closest dedicated kickboxing class near Mira Mesa. Checked out their website and saw that they offer a free trial class, so why the heck not? New year, new experience! The instructor I had was Cheryl (and apparently the co-owner) and she was so welcoming! She didn't make me feel intimidated because she was just so nice and approachable. She took the time to show me the moves and explained it so easy! The class was great! We did cardio, lots of abs (mine are going to feel it tomorrow), and the fun part.. the punching and kicking! You are doing cardio, HIIT, strength and balance training and so many others apart from the kickboxing on the bags! Been going to this gym for quite some time now. The classes are a perfect mix of kickboxing moves and a cardio workout. One thing I really like is that you can get as good of a workout as you want, it all depends on how hard you are willing to push yourself. I love kickboxing!! This is the place to be! It's hard to believe something so fun burns this many calories! Also! What makes this place is Nancy- the owner. She is SUCH a sweetheart! I came as a recommendation from my two friends and upon arriving, I had gotten an email from them filling me in on what to do, they sized me on gloves- she greeted me as I entered....and she even found an extra hair tie since I did not bring one (or better yet lost one). Seriously. I took this class- which was free as a first timer by the way and only had to buy gloves (which was about $21) and I really enjoyed it. Funny thing too because I'm not even an aggressive person- I generally do yoga and cycle so like the opposite. But I gave it a shot and fell in love! Monet, was our instructor (I do hope I'm spelling that right) and she was also sweet and energetic. She showed me the punches into class and was so motivating! I left there with all my stress on the bag, full of adrenaline and massive energy and better more confident and sassy than ever haha! You have to try it. You really have nothing to lose. I just wish they would be a bit closer but that's ok! This gym is "it". It isn't just the workout but the people that make an establishment and this is the right one! read more

First class here thanks to the groupon deal! Totally got my butt kicked (in a good way!) the time passed by so quickly and you're constantly doing different workouts so it doesn't seem repetitive. The instructors are super friendly and make you feel comfortable going at your own pace. You do need your own gloves and they do sell them here cheapest starting at $25 (non fingerless) up to $55 for the fingerless gloves (washable!) Parking is plenty and so are the kickboxing bags! Things to note are they don't really have a locker room (just a bathroom) and no water fountain (sink water from bathroom available of course) so bring lots and lots of water (they do sell it there too). I wish I could leave 100+ stars! This unique gym, the fantastic staff, the variety of classes, plus the specialized group training, has totally transformed me -- not only physically, but mentally. I joined this gym back in July when the CKO in my area had closed due to the pandemic and had no plans of reopening. I had gained 10 lbs on top of the 15 my doctor had advised me to lose. So far, I have been lost 14 (11+ more to go) and I couldn't have done it without the challenging classes, the guidance and support from the owners, Nancy & Cheryl!
