In May, I had a breast lift with new implants, rib luxation, and 360 lipo. From the moment surgery was over, I felt incredibly well cared for. Being able to stay overnight in the hospital with around-the-clock nursing care was so reassuring, especially compared with my previous experiences having surgery in Beverly Hills. The nurses were incredibly kind, attentive, and responsive, and Dr. Alonso and Sergio checked on me the following day. When I first saw my breasts after surgery, I literally thought, "THIS is what I wanted." They were smaller, lifted, round, and proportionate to my body. My waist was already looking SNATCHED and as my swelling has gone down, I've been so happy watching my results continue to develop. I also added Quantum RF to my lipo after Dr. Alonso recommended it, and I'm so glad I did. The recovery house was another huge part of my positive experience. I had a private VIP room, around-the-clock nursing care, fresh meals, transportation, and nurses who stayed on top of my medications and supplements so I could focus entirely on recovering. Rebecca and Stephanie were especially wonderful and I will always remember how caring they were during some of my hardest days. I was originally planning to stay for about two weeks, but I did experience a small complication with one of my breast incisions. I want to be transparent about this because complications can happen with any surgery, regardless of where you have it performed. What mattered most to me was how Vive responded. They did not make me feel abandoned or alone. Instead, they continued caring for me, and I ultimately stayed at the recovery house for approximately one month. During that time, I received hyperbaric chamber treatments every day, and the Vive driver took me to and from my treatments each day. Having transportation arranged for me made such a huge difference because I could focus on resting and recovering instead of worrying about getting to appointments. The daily hyperbaric treatments were an important part of my recovery plan while my incision was healing, and having the Vive team coordinate everything made the entire process so much easier. The aftercare has been EVERYTHING. Even after returning home, I never felt like I was on my own. They continued monitoring me through WhatsApp, and the communication has honestly been 10/10. Nurse Raul and Melissa have been incredibly responsive, and Raul regularly communicates with the doctors and helps answer my questions about my incision, bra, corset, and wound care. I've also received messages directly from Dr. Alonso checking on me. That level of communication made such a huge difference for me. I've already returned to Vive twice for follow-up appointments, and the process has been surprisingly easy. From Los Angeles, I can drive down, cross the border by foot, get picked up by their transportation team, and be in and out of the clinic within about an hour. They make the entire follow-up process incredibly easy and organized. My friends have watched my body change throughout this entire process and constantly tell me how tiny my waist looks and how much better my breasts look. I genuinely feel more confident, feminine, and proportionate. I know people can be nervous about having surgery in Mexico, and I completely understand that. Now, that I am back and have had time to fully process my experience, I'm really happy with the care and expertise of Dr. Q and his staff. He is somewhat of a reserved gentlemen but has the most experience at this facility. Depending on who you ask he is also the one who perfected the technique that is primarily used at Pompeii Surgical. Although, I made sure to do a deep dive into every aspect of the surgery, (I did 2 1/2 months of training/ learning). He fully explain the procedure and even drew a diagram to make sure that I was comfortable with what was going to happen. Now, let's talk about the obvious. For most people who come down to use this facility and take advantage of the procedures for a fraction of the cost. the fact that it's in Tijuana, Mexico makes people hesitant and even scared. The false ideals of cartel problems or even dangerous activities that are assumed to happen, is a non factor. I highly recommend this place for a high quality medical experience and for anyone that has to pay out of pocket for bariatric surgery. I have read horror stories about being forced to jump through hoops for insurance companies. To fight for financing and their required qualification period to be approved. at the time of this review the cost was $5300 cash or specialized check. That covered everything but airfare. Unfortunately, as of March 1st, 2022, the price has gone up to $5800. But it's still cheaper than paying in the states and in my opinion, Worth every penny!! It's Unbelievable care at a world class facility. I will tell you that this facility and all those that work here from the: surgeons, assistants and nurses are phenomenal. I also want to mention how fantastic the care coordinators and even the drivers- are professionals of the highest caliber. The facility is incredibly clean and modernized. When I got serious about weight loss surgery after suffering the up and down weight gain and loss from PCOS I researched a lot of places on different countries. I could have done the surgery under my insurance but I wanted it done right away. This hospital was on the top of my list. They have many coordinators and liaisons to help you through your whole process. Karla is awesome!! She takes care of every practical detail and makes sure everything is fulfilled to your standard. To qualify for the surgery you will need to go to their website and put in your info with height and weight. You get accepted right away if you qualify then you are contacted by a representative of the hospital. They do require a list of meds, previous surgeries, allergies, and medical history. There are certain conditions to prevent you from having the surgery and they won't risk your life for money. An internist sees you before surgery to review meds and blood work. He will also instruct you when to retake meds or stop taking certain meds altogether. Before surgery they obtain blood labs, Covid test, lung CT, and EKG. You get all your records, imaging, and prescribed post surgical meds upon discharge. I had the gastric sleeve which lasts 45 minutes. You are placed under anesthesia and they remove 80% of your stomach through laparoscopy. I have 4 scars on my stomach that will heal nicely. They do put a drain in you to remove any excess blood so your body doesn't have to go about absorbing it all. The most painful part of the surgery was the drain. It hurt with movement and deep breathing. I did well with my incentive spirometer but it was hard with that drain. Other patients complained about it too but we all realized it was very necessary! When it came out I felt 1000 times better. They do encourage you to drink fluids slowly after surgery and provide bottled water, Gatorade, and juice as well as ice chips. They had normal saline running the whole time and also hung antibiotics, pain medicine, steroids for inflammation, and meds to prevent nausea and reflux. Okay, so this place is as modern as it's going to get. As a nurse there were a lot of things I would do different but I was a good patient ;) The stretcher I was on had blood splatter (I hope) from another patient and one nurse gave me a breathing treatment with a mask that had been on the floor. I did my own cleaning in my room. I am so happy to have had this procedure here. They do a leak test the next day to make sure you're stitched up tight, by the way.

Some doctors speak English very well, but many do not, which made communication stressful at times. Another big issue was unexpected costs. I was told upfront what my package included, but once I was discharged, I was charged for every medication given during my stay. I was also hit with a BMI fee that I was originally told was already covered during my first consultation and paid before arrival. At discharge, I ended up paying an additional $835 on top of the $6,000+ I had already paid. On top of that, I paid for a full gastric bypass, but I was actually given a mini gastric bypass. This was never explained to me by the surgeon--I only found out afterward from the aftercare doctor. I do want to say Dr. Martin was great. She spoke excellent English, explained everything clearly, and I really appreciated her care. However, after surgery, I experienced complications and was throwing up blood. I was given medication to help with clotting, but I was continuously charged for it without being told. I assumed it was included in my surgical package, but it was not. Overall, I would say be very cautious and ask detailed questions about costs and procedures before booking with Mexico Bariatric Center. Make sure you fully understand what is included--and what is not.

Many people I spoke with felt disconnected from their surgeon's office because they either did not have a coordinator or they went through a 3rd party; Carla was a crucial part of my experience and I'm so incredibly grateful for her! Dr Camberos was extremely professional and thorough. He paid close attention to my medical conditions and past surgeries, and even ordered extra pre-op tests to make sure I would get the best results. I always felt like I was a priority for him, he answered my questions thoroughly and always took as much time as I needed to ask my questions. He even made additional post-op recommendations based specifically on my progress. Honestly, I can't believe I'm saying all of this about a surgeon because this is completely unheard of in the US! My OR experience really stood out compared to the many experiences I've had in the US. For past surgeries, I always had to hop onto the cold operating table and lay there while the staff got ready all around me, not talking to me or making me feel comfortable at all, and then if I was lucky the anesthesiologist would give me a hint of what was happening by having me do a countdown until I went to sleep. With Dr Camberos' team, the environment was extremely friendly and fun, even. I fell asleep smiling! Included in my package was 5 lymphatic drainage sessions with the therapist at the surgeon's office. While at first I wasn't the most enthusiastic about leaving my recovery home to go out in public in my pjs and faja, I'm so glad I did! Juan Carlos is amazing, he is extremely knowledgeable and professional and truly cares about his patients' comfort and health. He was present in the OR for my surgery, and having follow up care from someone who knew exactly what was done to my body was invaluable! He was able to track my progress and Dr Camberos was right next door if any issues came up. I believe that Juan Carlos' care greatly sped up my recovery, and being in the office so often made me feel 100% comfortable that my progress was being monitored and going as expected. Dr Wendy the anesthesiologist was also amazing. 2 days before my surgery I developed some congestion, and Dr Wendy spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with me (at 8pm!) talking through my symptoms and her recommendations. She was so comforting and kind in the OR and even came to visit me at the recovery house a few days after surgery. It is a very nice and clean looking hospital, I'm an American who's frequented to mexico/tijuana and I know many Americans hold a stigma against tijuana and mexican doctors in general. Overall I'd say this place gets the job done....but that's it, hence the 3 stars. Yes, she lived and made it through surgery and the results 2 days post op look impressive but the following events with post op were very questionable. First and foremost they offer a companion to come when booking the suite but they have a rule that there's no food or drink allowed in the rooms. They have a cafeteria that's open from 8am-6pm but like...after 6pm are all guests expected to wait 14 hours tills they can eat again? The patient was being brought meals post op as well so there was always food in the room so this rule was very strange to me. Next, most of the staff I encountered was nice! However, our suite was right at the front of the enterance for the floor and RIGHT across from the nurses station. When i say that almost all the nurses there were LOUD and laughing hysterically at almost all hours of the day...im not joking. I work in medical care and that is just so unprofessional! They know they had two people in this room but were still so obnoxious. The patient that brought me booked to stay 2 overnights post op. Not even 24 hours after surgery we had two nurses come in say they are going to shower her and put a body compression on. This was a complete shock to me as she hadn't even been stitched up 24 hours and getting that many open wounds wet is not a good idea. Turns out they thought we were only staying 1 night so they were trying to get her ready for discharge but whether or not she was leaving, getting a person who is in that much fresh pain into a shower with so many new open wounds is just asking for a disaster! Her second night was the worst, she was in very intense pain and could not sleep. As far as I am concerned she wasn't receiving too heavy duty of pain killers, she would get a shot of a substance a couple times a day and then the "pain relief" they periodically gave her through IV was mostly tramadol (a prescription very of aspirin that's just a little stronger) . At about midnight two nurses came in to just move her to help with pain but made it so much worse as 1) she didn't want to be moved and 2) in the commotion of it all one of the male nurses was leaning on her IV causing pain and the pressure literally took both tapes that was securing the iv on her hand right off! At this point she was quite upset that no one was listening to her and she was in a lot of pain! It was very hard as her close friend and medical professional to watch this happen, she was in tears and ready to call her mom to be picked up at 1am. She was clearly very hurt and freaked out and told the nurses they needed to leave. I'm not gonna lie and omit the fact that she yelled at them but when your whole body is in shooting pain in you and people continue to ignore your needs and try to move you, a person will get irritated! After that whole incident it just felt like the whole night staff had something against her and it was very uncomfortable. Luckily a doctor on duty was called up and able to make some stuff happen with the meds to get her to sleep but all that stress they put on her is not good for healing. Overall Dr. Suarez himself was great and very professional and I believe he did a great job on everything. The hospital is a nice establishment and clean. However in my opinion nurses are everything to a hospital, if you don't have compassionate, patient nurses it's not gonna be the best experience as we encountered. I don't want to minimize the many other great and friendly nurses she had but the bad ones really eclipsed all the other good ones. Her coordinator was very friendly and kind and was the only one who was really apologetic about the unprofessional nurses we dealt with that one night. If you are wanting to save the 10k from getting it done in America, just know you are paying for it in the standard of care you receive in this hospital at least.
