Cocktail reminiscent of gin and tonic (left) and The Alchemist more of a sweeter cocktail (right)

This is another level of speakeasy! I won't give anything away because finding this place is part of the fun and never have I been so confused! The staff in the front as well as inside are super nice and welcoming. The decor is super cool, it makes you feel like you're in an underground garden like something out of Alice in wonderland. The music is not too loud so you can actually hear each other speak and not have to yell over each other. The cocktails are great even for someone who has trouble with mezcal or tequila or you can chose to have a mezcal tasting. Prices are also very decent compared to other speakeasy bars. Would definitely come back!

Hidden gem! This by far is my favourite speakeasy bar in Montreal. It has some sick Tulum vibes going on - the music, delicious mezcal drinks and the decor. Service is great. Only drawback: it's quite small and because it's a really good place, it can get really packed and stuffy in there. Nevertheless, I am definitely gonna keep going back and bring my friends too! Do check this spot out!!

A view of one of the most beautiful bars I've seen in recent memory.

This place had one of the best cocktails ever consumed by a human in a hidden bar that's hidden inside of another hidden bar. The ambience is top notch.

Such an awesome speakeasy. My boyfriend and I actually stumbled here on accident, but when the host brought us downstairs and mysteriously led us here we were blown away. Quiet, romantic, and stylish - this place is well worth the adventure.

Very cool spot. Loved the drinks. Vibe was great. Bar manager was very helpful recommending what to order. Would definitely add to the must visit Montreal list.

the most beautiful different mystical speakeasy i have ever tried. the smell of a smoky candle hits you when you enter the bar. candles everywhere and can we talk about the music? best latin mixed music EVER. (cannot be shazamed). the cocktails are more on the expensive side but they taste good and you pay for the experience. ( they could be stronger though ).

Drink I had called the Aparicio

Loved that place. I find speakeasy very kitsch, but this one is actually worth it. Great cocktails and good service.

Amazing bar. Best spot in Montreal hands down. The tequila and accoutrements are incredible. I'd go for the salt alone!

Hands down the best speakeasy or cocktail bar we visited while in MTL. It's behind a hidden door…read morenext to the smallest bar in Canada, which is so fun. You want to be brought in and it's dark and moody with the BEST craft cocktail list. The theme is duck - which is so fun. Our bartender was OUTSTANDING. He gave not only the best drink recommendations, but also gave us a hand written list of his favorite spots in MTL (drinks, dining, activities, etc). I wish we would've gotten his name because I cannot praise him enough!

The Coldroom is a fantastic bar and definitely worth visiting. We actually ended up going twice…read moreduring our trip, and each visit was a little different. The first time, the music was extremely loud, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. The bar was completely packed, and there was only one bartender making drinks, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. We decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. The second visit was amazing! The bartender working that night was incredible--she clearly knows her craft and made our drinks quickly without sacrificing quality. Every cocktail was delicious, and the overall experience was much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Coldroom. My only suggestion would be that, with a space that busy, the bar could really benefit from having an additional bartender during peak hours. It would help keep wait times down and make an already great experience even better.

My hotel was nearby and I kept seeing people gathered outside or walking in this place. Around 4:30…read moreone evening it was quiet, so I walked in to check out the food menu. You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.
