TLDR: This rest area needs to be torn down and an entirely new one built in its place. It's small, smelly, and dirty -- but it exists if you need a bathroom stop as you're driving toward the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Best part of this service area is that it is there and it is open. Bathrooms: While the line for the women's restroom extended almost to the front door of the rest area, it did move along at a decent pace. The bathrooms themselves are clean enough given the volume of people moving through. No hooks on the stall doors, though. Starbucks: Starbucks was dirty but cashiers were friendly. Other food: leaves a lot to be desired -- Auntie Anne's, Burger King, etc. Try to stop at a different rest stop if possible. read more

2 weeks ago, late in the evening, my spouse needed help while in the rest room at the Clara Barton HMS Host rest stop. The staff couldn't have acted more quickly from the young employee who responded and ran to get the manager to the manager himself. He showed great leadership qualities as he called the ambulance squad to the facility and made sure of my husbands' comfort and privacy. After he was closely checked by the ambulance attendants ( all volunteers),and the NJ State trooper who came to the scene, we were able to continue on our way thanks to the attention and respect the employees of the Clara Barton showed our family. thank you read more

Would like to see this stop updated with additional food options and vending machines. The addition of a variety of unattended vending stations is preferred to allow 24/7 service. Vending machines with food, condiments and utensils inside the food service area could help improve the attractiveness of this location and truly make this stop restful. Additionally, it might be helpful to separate the restrooms from the food services to eliminate the conflicting cross traffic and to increase the cleanliness of the food service area. Lastly, the addition of comfortable seating would be helpful. read more

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority has named Clara Barton Service area located on the southbound New Jersey Turnpike between exits 2 and 1. It is the last service station before leaving NJ and entering Delaware. I usually like to load up with some lower cost gasoline and a restroom/snack break except I hate when the gas lines are too long. In those cases I just say screw it and drive on to get gas etc. in Delaware or Maryland. I really hate to wait on lines. I thought the whole purpose of a service area was to have food and gas available for travelers around the clock. It was just before 10 am on Sunday and some of the stores were not even open yet. There were no lines for the women's restroom, which were also clean. Since it is a smaller rest stop, there are limited food options (Burger King, Starbucks, and Pizza Hut). As the signs state, it's the last southbound Jersey service area prior to crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Sunoco conveniently has a sign a half mile away from the actual SA with the current gas prices. Auntie Annie's, BK, Cinnabon, Starbucks, Pizza Hut Express, and a Travel Mart near the restrooms are your only dining options inside the building. Parking is plentiful, and there are a number of benches scattered outside. Restroom cleanliness is about what you would expect; it's not horribly unkempt but don't expect to smell wintergreen either. It's a decent rest stop; however, if you have at least a half-tank of gas and your bladder can hold on for an extra 30 minutes, you might as well drive to the Delaware Welcome Center. read more

Meh, this place is kinda gross. I stopped for a bathroom break and the bathroom was definitely not up to par. Half the stalls had "out of order" signs on them. Out of the two that were open, one had no toilet paper and the other was super gross with a broken flushing mechanism. read more

Unless your bladder is about to explode, just keep driving. We stopped in here for breakfast and to use the loo early in the morning (7:30ish) on a recent car trip down South. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy, probably the worst I've seen. We grabbed breakfast at the Burger King. What we didn't know before ordering was that this must be one of Burger King's experimental "Post Apocalyptic Have It Your Way" stores. That's the only way to explain the nuked piece of "meat" that was on my pitiful croissanwich. I decided not to risk whatever radioactive waste was in their coffee, so I opted for the Starbucks, which was fine. I'm not sure what the Northbound "Welcome to New Jersey!" version of this rest stop is like, but man does Jersey do a good job of saying "Goodbye! :middle finger:" at this Southbound stop. For the ridiculous amount of money the state charges you to drive on the turnpike, you'd think they could sink some money into cleaning this place up. If you're heading past here, there is a MUCH more civilized looking stop shortly after crossing into Delaware. Unless you're desperate, hold it in until you're free from Jersey. read more

Clean rest spot. Needs a little upgrading to be honest. They have Starbucks which I got. The only thing I didnt like was that there were so many black flies landing on everything on Starbucks. The staff was swatting the flies away. I can one or two but i saw at least ten of them flying around and landing all over cups, coffee, machines, and the poor staff. It's a standard service area just before you exit the Jersey Turnpike going southbound. It has food stalls, a bathroom and two convenience stores. So the prices are inflated, not really a huge deal. Once again, it's a service area.....no different than buying stuff at the airport. Expect it and learn to live with it. Restrooms are hit and miss and largely dependent on the time of day. It can be crowded at times but it's nothing to really complain about. I stop here every time I go to VA and will continue to do so on future journeys. read more

This is one of the busiest service areas I have ever been to. The gas station is packed and the service is slow there too -- I don't even want to see how the restaurants are. First or last service area depending on which direction you're traveling on the NJ Turnpike. Some of the food services are Cinnabon, Starbucks and pizza. This weekend we pulled into the service area with a tire about to blow. Steve at the Sunoco station here was a huge help. Right away, he walked all the way across the giant parking lot to take a look. They didn't have our tires in stock, so he put on our spare, and we were able to get to our destination. Steve also suggested the closest place to get a permanent replacement for the tire. The whole ordeal took maybe 15 minutes--Steve said he hated to see people stranded. I never thought I'd give a turnpike service area 5 stars, but there you go. read more

This is not my favorite rest stop. The bathrooms are not always clean and the food selection is very limited. My boyfriend and I stopped here on a Sunday early afternoon, thinking we could grab something decent to eat before we gassed up and hit the road again. We looked at the choices and decided to just wait until we see another rest stop with better food selections. The convenience market inside is overpriced and we didn't want to pay $10 for a meal at burger king, when we aren't even fans of burger king's food. The only highlight is being able to have your gas pumped for you at the gas station outside. read more

Swarming with flies, the food stations were in terrible condition and the bathrooms were dirty. The best part? The cleaning lady who was standing around watching people come in and out. Our quick trip to the restroom showed us one of the worst rest stops I've ever been to. As we drove up, there was garbage all over the parking lot. I thought it was due to the recent winds from the rain. However, my friend then informed me of the smell, which was horrible. Upon walking up to the building, we noticed that every garbage can outside was overfilled....every one!! The one nice thing I noticed as we were leaving, was that one of the workers, who was cleaning the windows of the doors, had a smile on her face. Too small considering this is the last rest stop on the southbound nj turnpike. Only 10 out of the 12 toilets worked in the women's restroom. The restroom floor could've used a deep scrubbing. Only option for food was Burger King, Pizza Hut, Cinnabon, Starbucks and a little convenient store/market. The lines for gas was really long and stretched back out onto i95 and moved really slow. read more
