If there is a less inspiring welcome or farewell to the Garden State than this particular Pilot Travel Center, I have yet to stumble into it, and I have stumbled into many things in my life, some of them with more dignity than this. Once upon a time, this place was a beacon for the weary traveler: cheap gas, hot coffee, the promise of a Subway sandwich assembled by human hands. Now it is merely a stage where apathy performs its endless matinee. The gas attendant, tethered to his phone like a life-support machine for boredom, filled my tank without once acknowledging that I too was a living creature. In New Jersey, where we are not trusted to pump our own gas, this adds insult to injury. Inside, the atmosphere was that of a small-town post office at closing time, with fluorescent lights buzzing like anxious bees over a clerk who looked as if enthusiasm had been outlawed. My coffee was sold with the sort of resigned detachment one might expect from a mortician. The Subway counter stood empty, a ghost kitchen in the most literal sense, with no artist to craft a footlong, only the echo of long-gone lunch breaks. And then, the restroom. Ah, the restroom. To call it "acceptable" would be to commit a crime against adjectives. It served its function, I suppose, in the way that a leaky umbrella still technically keeps the rain off one's head. Still, it is what it is: a place to refuel, refill, and reconsider your life choices. You can get food. You can get gas. You can use the facilities. But you will not get joy, nor even a smile. read more

I'm giving one star just as an appreciation of being a long year customer with my fleet of 33 trucks. Just a little customer service fact, after I tank up and pay $750 for diesel and get a $2 cup of coffee and be asked to dump the same cup of coffee because my driver was a dollar short. Not good experience at all. Remember drivers are 7 days a week on the road, that takes diesel, show a little appreciation next time. Thank you! read more

I absolutely LOVE this service station right off 295. The first or last stop to get dirt cheap gas (aside for it's sister service station across the highway the Flying J) as you enter/leave NJ. It's got everything you could need for that long treck through the armpit of America. ;) Coming off the Delaware Memorial Bridge, the exit is very easy to miss. I've done it a few times already. Also a place to grab a sandwich as Subway's is inside. read more

They still have among the cheapest gas in the area - a full 10 cents cheaper than what you find on the NJ Turnpike - but I'm taking away a star because of the lines. There is a Gulf or Exxon across the street and a Sunoco/Sahib 5 Llc down the road at the same price, and they didn't have any lines at all. But since this place is literally the first station you see after getting off Exit 140, it gets most of the traffic. Oh well. At least the bathroom is clean. read more

I should've read these before going there. Told attendant, "$20 cash-regular"; she says she has to take it inside, first. (Why?!) I was in a hurry, so I said, "then make it credit, fill it." I now have a $151 pending on my credit card, for $21 worth of gas! What the Hell??!!! Avoid this place! 2 other stations 1/2 mile away. read more

BEST GAS PRICES AROUND!!!! And this is one of the few places that still clean your windows and check you fluids for free!!!!! Definatly worth taking a slight detour off the turnpike to go here... save 15cents a gallon (or more) and the travel mart has better snack prices ($1 for a 44oz drink) and a SUBWAY!! read more

Saturday evening I had a flat tire and made the decision to pull into Pilot gas station. I sat and waited for my husband to arrive to change the tire. When the gas attendant realized what our problem was, he came over to us, offered assistance, and brought us a bottle of water. Thank you! Customer service A++. read more

This is a great gas station, lowest prices around. It is a little confusing to find when heading north on the Turnpike, much easier if you have a GPS. Going south it is much easier to get to AND much simpler to get back to the bridge. Tip: go to their Facebook page and Like them and they usually have a coupon for a free drink (you need to print it in advance). read more

I'm driving down the NJ turnpike with my girlfriend and her sisters when I hear her youngest sister yell "pull over now" with panic in her voice. I know this panic, I've felt it myself before. This is danger. So I had a choice; pull over or make the decision to keep driving with a pile of manure in the backseat. With just seconds to spare, I was able to get off the exit and quickly find Pilot Gas Station, our savior. The luxurious bathroom and convenient location makes this a poopers paradise. If it weren't for the one ply toilet paper, Pilot Gas Station would receive five stars. Can't wait to unload here myself in the future. read more

In New Jersey, it's against the law to pump your own gasoline. (although strangely enough, if your car takes diesel, you are allowed to pump that yourself) While others appreciate not having to get out of the car when buying gas, I think it actually takes longer when I have to wait for a pump attendant. That was especially bad at this Pilot Travel Center on a Sunday night. Although there were people inside the building, no one came out to pump gas for drivers who were waiting at the gas pumps. Husband filled up, $37.25. Charged us $150.00. Called , jessica, very rude....said too bad ifvyou pay with credit card at the pump..they hold $150.00 . Really ?? I asked why wawa, citco and any other gas station does not have this practice.? She said could go inside and pay cash, or just ask for $20. Crazy. So motorists out there...be aware. Once you hand them that card...and they swipe it...your charged. read more

This station puts a hold on your credit card of $151.00 (shows up as a "pending" charge). The $25.75 I spent on gas has already been cleared, but the "pending" charge stays on for a few more days. While you may not be actually charged that amount, it does reduce your available funds. read more
