Room is well outfitted. Plenty of lights and plugs. The desk is work friendly. All kinds of positives, but some issues. ADDENDUM This will look persnickety. Maybe it is. The linens are a polyester blend. That makes them hot in the summer and cold in the winter. And they pill, are then rough and scratch. I kept waking up drenched. But was intermittently cold. Legs were uncomfortable from rough sheets. Finally checked a tag. Will bring my own sheets next time. (From a sanitary perspective ..... I don't think polyester blends can be washed in temps as warm as pure cotton.) This may just be a personal issue for me. So I did not change the star rating. Another positive note -- sign at the desk not allowing birthday parties. So they keep the place quiet so working and traveling folks can do what they need to. Much appreciated that.

The decor in our room is super cute, with adorable duvets, a gorgeous orange desk chair and mirror (I'd buy both for my home, tbh), and lots of sensible storage. There are outlets for USB and USB-C charging, ample attractive lighting, and you have the option to close the opaque window shade, a sheer shade, or both. You even get your choice of a soft or firm pillow. The bathroom and mini fridge are immaculately clean. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I almost wish we were here for longer than one night, as it really is so nice. It's refreshing not to be grossed out by a hotel. The woman at the desk was friendly and efficient! I would definitely stay here again if I were passing through. I'm so impressed that I forgot to wait until morning so I can comment on breakfast. I'll do that tomorrow. After a gloriously hot shower with moderate water pressure, we're at breakfast. There is a great array of options. I'm having a banana, Oikos yogurt, and an egg white omelet (a circle of egg white and peppers folded in half--genius). My mom is eating her weight in bacon, a banana nut muffin, and a biscuit with sausage gravy. There is sausage, as well as a cheese omelet and a pancake machine. Lots of fruit, cereal, yogurt, bread/bagels, etc. If you're on Mason City, it's impossible to imagine a better option than this Holiday Inn Express. Roll in shower room was spacious, and the sink and mirror are outside the bathroom. There is a good sized fridge and a microwave and coffee pot. The heat works, and the tv is new. There is a nice new recliner with a foot rest. The only downside is that the bed is a double, instead of queen or king. But, we're not too hard to please, and happy to be so comfortable. And , when was the last time you had soft water in your hotel shower? I know, right?

Unfortunately, I did something wrong and ended up reserving the room for the wrong date. I contacted them through email and by phone asking them to either cancel the reservation or move it. They said "there was nothing they could do" because I had reserved it online. I contacted my bank and am disputing the charges. Meanwhile, we still needed a room in order to attend a funeral in Eagle Grove. My husband used his credit card and we stayed there. The hotel stinks- as in smells REALLY bad. There are Glade plug ins everywhere and it did not help. The bed was comfy and everything looked clean except for the bath mat and the tiny pebble my bare feet kept finding. This morning, we got a cup of coffee and it was half full of coffee grounds! Gross! If you choose to book a room here, don't use the website!
