I know this isn't the Clarion Hotel anymore and it is an AmericInn, but I would not stay at the AmericInn at this location. It was dirty. The pool is located on the fourth floor but could use some major touch ups. There isn't much for an exercise room. Maybe three things? I am not sure if they are in the middle of remodeling or what, but it was dirty. The floor in the room wasn't sweep and the mirror had tons of finger prints on it. This hotel has potential but does not have it right now. They also had an alright breakfast. But that is maybe the only thing going for them. If you are in the area, I would check into the hotel across the street. read more

I walked in and was wondering where the elevator was and the guy at the front desk was wondering how he could help me in a "you are a nuisance to me" tone. I asked for the elevator directions and he directed me, but after I was done doing my thing and was leaving the building I heard him say something along the lines of "yeah, go out and get some sunlight you wh*re" or "shine your head some more" or something of the sort, implying that I was a vampire or something, which I did not like whatsoever. My conclusion? Even as a guest? I would not recommend this hotel, I'd rather stay at Best Western or a Days Inn than stay another night at the Clarion Hotel in Baraboo, Wisconsin. read more

We'd like to shout out the two staffers at the Clarion Inn, Baraboo WI, who went out of their ways to make our vacay stay extra nice. First, is Miss Amber at the front desk, who worked with us to resolve a gift card issue. It was no easy feat and took patience and know-how to succeed. Thanks Amber, you rock and should get a raise! Next is Dylan, tending bar in the hotel restaurant called Mike's Italian Restaurant. He made us feel welcome and appreciated which seems to be going out of one's way these days. Hospitality ain't what it used to be. Thanks again Dylan, you also rock and should also get a raise! The housekeeping staff were accommodating, the other bartender was also very engaging and the breakfast babes made it happen every morning. Points for the always available juice and coffee station but you gotta shake up that breakfast once in awhile. One person at the front desk was decidedly unhelpful and another pretty apathetic but functional. We were only inconvenienced by the lack of any luggage carts (didn't see one during our 5 day stay, after being told there were some), but we survived. read more

For the price I paid I love this hotel so close tot he international crane foundation the room are very clean , the bath rooms are clean , with pool and gym amenities . A restaurant and bars open till 10 pm . The location is very close to devils lake which was my original destination to go to . Definitely will return to here if time permits read more

Our stay her was pretty standard. Check in was easy, our room was clean and ready. The front desk clerks were always nice. We did have an issue with key cards. Ours kept losing their...programming. Their were 4 of us in the room and apparently they could only have 2 key cards per room, but they didn't realize that at first, so there were keys that were given that did not work. So if we tried to use them, they did not work at all. We would then go to the front desk to ask, they would "reprogram the card" but that would make the ones we already had, void as they were programmed differently. It was a while before it was realized that it was an issue with the number of cards. The staff was friendly each time and maybe this has changed, but it was frustrating to deal with every time one of us when back to the room and it was difficult to keep all the keys straight and make sure each of us could access our room when needed. I wouldn't even review this hotel, but Clarion sent me an email asking my opinion. Writing it out got me riled up, so here it is. This hotel is literally ridiculous. I am embarassed that I paid money to stay here. I could have just as easily stayed in a garbage strewn alley- just as dirty, but less expensive. (I should say- front desk folks were nice. Only employees I interacted with. Good job in a junky hotel) --- There was dried up pasta sauce on the pillow case. This means that, since the last occupant slept in the bed and spilled pasta sauce on it, the linens were not washed. Who knows, maybe SEVERAL people slept in that bed since it was washed. My girlfriend wouldn't roll over in her sleep for fear of touching her face to other folks face germs. Perfectly genuine concern, IMO. The fact that I am writing this out is simultaneously hilarious and infuriating. I paid 130ish dollars. I mean, I get that it's in Baraboo Wisconsin. But, and this is really simple and probably elemental to success in hostelry: WASH. THE. SHEETS. read more

Have you ever been in a friend's car that "they're driving until the wheels fall off"--covered in dents, headliner falling off, smells funny, but will never see a dollar spent on it because it still sputters to life each morning in a cloud of smoke and indignation? That's this place, but a hotel instead of a '97 Cavalier. Had to get a room in the area on short notice and ended up here. Nice staff, but needs a complete upgrade very, very badly. Seriously--three different lamps in my room, all somehow with different color light bulbs, luxurious velour curtains straight from Boogie Nights yet, confusingly, jazzy neon outside the bar straight from Miami Vice, and a rattly old air conditioner still just trying to get out of this town. Even adjusting my expectations a bit, charging $250/nt for a room here (as I was gouged...er, charged for their cheapest room available) is offensive to both me and the $250. My advice--until it's upgraded leave this one on the side of the road. read more

With the limited lodging options in Baraboo (and the Devil's Head area in general without heading into the Dells), it's a decent choice, but a bit expensive for what you get. Rooms are well-sized and beds are pretty comfy, but the bathrooms are miniscule. Seriously, claustrophobia while showering. The A/C works well, as does the TV, so no complaints there. Everything appeared clean, though the hotel has seen better days. It does have one of the most roundabout ways to access rooms that I've ever seen in a hotel, though. To get from the lobby to the hotel rooms, you basically have to walk around the entire perimeter of the hotel. Annoying and odd. Free wi-fi works well. Complimentary breakfast is nice, but the selections are quite limited. At this price point in Baraboo ($130/night), you have this Clarion and the Best Western across the street. The Best Western appears better maintained and a bit newer, though I have not seen the rooms. While I understand rooms are supply and demand (and I was staying here during Tough Mudder, which overwhelmed this poor small town), I think the price point is set a bit high for this hotel. read more

Maskless employees. Cable didn't work, fortunately we brought our Roku. Hair dryer didn't work. Dog hair on the upholstered chair. Sink drain slow, kept backing up. Microwave filthy. Hot tub from room above leaked on our heads as we sat in our hot tub. No overhead lighting, very dimly lit room. Couldn't use pool, as it was packed with pandemic ignoring fools. The best offer Clarion could make for my poor experience was 12,000 points for their stupid rewards club. I will never stay at at Clarion or Choice Hotels property again. read more

As a choice rewards member, I've stayed at many choice hotels. This visit was a bit of a disappointment. We arrived late to check in (around 11:00pm) we had to wait for 15-20 minutes to get checked in. That being said, there was a sign on the desk saying "Be Right Back" and the man came up to the front desk with a vacuum, so I'm assuming he was working and not just hanging around. He checked us is someone quickly and abruptly and we made our way to our room. The rooms are very dated and small. There was no microwave in the room, but there was one available to use at the front desk. The next morning at 9:15am, I went down to the desk to find out about breakfast. I was told it was up on the 5th floor and that they'd have coffee. I got up there only to find that breakfast was over, there was no coffee! :( I wish we'd been told by the front desk about the breakfast hours either at check in or when I went down in the morning... However, when we actually got to breakfast the next day, it was a disaster! Super crowded, sub par food, and very awkward set up. I understand there are strapped for room, but there has to be a better option. We didn't use the pool (on the 4th floor), but it looked nicer than some other Clarion pools. Overall, the hotel is underwhelming, but close to Devil's Lake State park and not too expensive. If you stay, come in with low expectations. read more

For the price paid, very pleased with this selection! We came up from Chicago for a getaway weekend, and booked a king suite with a jetted tub! The suite was clean, with a microwave/fridge, and sparkling jetted tub which worked great! The Bathrooms in the suite were huge! It also had a separate vanity so my boyfriend and I could get ready at the same time! The pool was open and so was the hot tub! An extreme rarity during COVID times, but, we had it all to ourselves for over an hour and a half before it closed at 11pm. The game room seemed to be no mas, but the exercise room looked nice and they had an open restuarant attached that had wood fired pizzas and you could do room service! I've never had a clarion that does room service! We hiked devils lake, then relaxed in the hotub, then hit the dells for some lakeside dining! We did the upper boat tour the next day and we're having so much fun, we booked this hotel an added night and left super early the next day around 4:30am, for the same awesome price! We had the dells basically to ourselves and it was a wonderful time thanks to this hotel! read more

This is a hard review to write because this hotel has both positive and negative aspects that could swing the rating either way. I usually stay at this hotel for the points (Choice Privileges) as I travel to Baraboo for work on an annual basis. It's generally what you'd expect from an older Choice hotel. The rooms are nice, but look a bit dated. Not all rooms have a flat-screen television (mine didn't, and I was stuck with a 23-inch or so Zenith TV). The bathrooms are fine, and overall my room was pretty clean. The biggest issue for me was the fact that the room did not come with a refrigerator, which in my mind is an egregious shortfall given their relative cheap cost and energy efficiency. I should make it clear that the hotel does have rooms with refrigerators, but I was informed by the man at the front desk that most double queen bed rooms will not have one. Talk about a bummer, as I enjoy being able to prepare at least two meals for myself each day. There are some mitigating factors. A super wal-mart is not too far away, Baraboo's proximity to Wisconsin Dells, and the fact that the hotel is attached to a pretty good restaurant (Glacier Rock). It just makes me think that it would be hard to save a few bucks if I came up here solely for pleasure to visit the Circus Museum or Devil's Lake State Park if I can't even fix a few sandwiches with stuff from my own fridge. To me it doesn't make sense to go out and buy every meal. Again, depending on what your priorities are you may not particularly care that there is no refrigerator. If that's the case then this is a decent hotel in a good location with a good restaurant attached. But for me it's a big deal. I could go 2 or 3 on this one, but I'll go 3 because the rooms are well-priced and if you get a room with a king bed, you'll get a fridge. I just feel like in 2011 they should be in all hotel rooms. read more

This hotel needs to be remodeled a bit to be appropriately priced. We paid about $85 for a room. The bathroom was small and the pillows were very squishy. I did like how quiet it was and the attached Glacier Rock is super nice. This place needs a bit of a remodel to reflect the rest of Choice Hotels. I've stayed in nicer Clarion Hotels. read more

Too much $$$ for this class of hotel. The good: Comfy beds, flat panel TV w/satellite, quiet, pet friendly The bad: Hallways are HOT (it had to be 90 degrees in the halls), rooms were hot upon arrival as window units were turned off, common areas are dirty, dirty window sills (dead bugs), old A/C units in windows (need replaced badly), old refrigerators (dented, scratched, stained), breakfast is terrible, strange looking man walking the halls, old elevator that looks like its never been cleaned. Overall, this place isn't the worst I've seen. Once you are in your room, its not too bad. I slept pretty good actually. However, it needs a deep cleaning especially in the common area (halls, elevators, lobby, etc). The building is definitely dated and needs some maintenance. Also, please update the refrigerators and window-A/C units immediately. My room had 2 A/C units, 1 per window (we had a suite) and they were two different models and appeared very old. read more

Nice, well-priced hotel in a location that's convenient to the Dells-area attractions. I stayed here on a Sunday night and we had the indoor pool/whirlpool/sauna to ourselves the entire hour we used it, which was nice. The rooms were clean and recently updated. Comfortable beds (although the pillows are a little squishy for my taste.) The bathroom was pretty small and the toilet didn't flush well, but I was pleased to experience a hotel shower with decent water pressure. (Being on the first floor probably helped, but still.) The only real negative was a strange mechanical sound that came from above every 12 seconds or so (yes, I counted). The elevator was out of order, so I'm guessing it was somehow related to the laundry room two floors above us. Fortunately the noise stopped from about 10pm-6am, so it didn't affect my ability to sleep. The continental breakfast was about what you expect from these types of places - toast, bagels, bits of pastries, cold cereal, and various packets of things to mix with hot water. They have a waffle iron, which is a plus, but that gets cancelled out by the unappetizing vat of lumpy yogurt. I'd stay here again. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Had to change our room block because our wedding got postponed and had CONSTANT issues up until our wedding day. First of all, it took them WEEKS to get our contract to us. I had to call the manager multiple times just to get it sent over to me (they never tried to contact us about it). They told us we had booked the king suite when we originally called. My mother in law called later and they told her that suite was available. I had to call them back to verify it was in fact our room, they told us it was, we go to check the day before and they gave us a double queen room...Why would I need that on my wedding night? The rooms were VERY OVERPRICED, considering the fact that one of my guests had ants and their shower was broke (they never got offered a new room), another one of my guests had stains on their sheets, and the night of my wedding I came back to my room having no room service what so ever. I was also very confused and frustrated that as the bride and groom we did not get offered a discount or even a free night from the beginning. Especially since we blocked off and booked 15 rooms for them. Oh, and they called me a few weeks before stating that we were only getting the 15 rooms when they told us we could do 25. I also heard from multiple people that their room keys barely worked.. had to put their key in more than once or go and complain to the front desk that the key was not working.. None of us were offered a discount or anything for the trouble we went through with everything. And they also told one of my guests the wedding was canceled, when all we did was change the room block from May to July. I never post reviews for places but my experience and my guests experience was so horrible here I hope this review saves someone else the stress of booking this hotel. read more

$200 for one night plus tax... not cheap for for an inexpensive hotel chain. $80 would be more appropriate for what you get. Breakfast was typical discount chain buffet. We were looking for a place to get out of the rain ( on a motorcycle trip) and we still got soaked by the prices here. read more

For a weekend trip to Wisconsin Dells I and two of friends shared a room at the Clarion Hotel for one night. We didn't really care that the building was run down and obiviously have seen better days. We were there to enjoy the tourist trap that is Wisconsin Dells and not hang around all day in a hotel in Baraboo, Wisconsin. So after a day of food and minature golf we settle in the hotel around 12:30am and iie in our freshly made beds and sip drinks while watching some Sportscenter. That is until my friend gets up to go to the bathroom and we see that the back of his shirt is very damp. It turns out that his side of his bed was wet and that he was sleeping in a bed that was made up with a urine soaked mattress. After changing his shirt he went to the lobby to complain and get a new room. No such luck. No new room or even a different mattress was available. Seeming that it was now 1am and it was going to be a tough time finding a different hotel in the Wisconsin Dells area during primetime tourist season, my friend got a cot, his wife slept on the non pee side of the bed, and we all stuck it out for the night. In the morning we packed our things, ate their crappy breakfast, and went to the front desk to get our money back. They refused to give us a full refund because we decided to stay the whole night not mattering that pee was involved. So what does it cost to stay in a hotel room with a pee bed? $30. I suggest avoiding this place so you'll never ever have to pay that price. read more

We received a gift certificate as a wedding present this past September but because of a clerical error on their part we were unable to use it. We love 3 hours away (family in the area) and the certificate was to be used with in 30 days off getting married. There was no chance of us using it so wet contacted the hotel with no help from the front desk but she did refer is to the manager. I left a message repeating my work phone number and cell phone number twice asking for a phone call and received nothing in return.. not a I'm sorry there's nothing we can do.. nothing. I wish I could review the hotel itself but because of the employees and poor management it will never happen. Check your dates and bills.. I hope they read this and realize it's in poor tastes not to contact future customers. 0 stars of they would let me! read more

The Hotels.com listing says this place has a water park but it doesn't -- just a pool and hot tub, both with clumps of hair floating in them. Kids were super disappointed. The beds were uncomfortable and it was tough to sleep with the AC turning on and off every few minutes. It was a loud unit and the shift between dead quiet and loud AC was bad -- every time I was almost asleep, the AC kicked in. It was hot with it on "fan only" mode and there was no option for continuous AC because the "money saving" mode was on and there was no way to turn it off as far as we could tell. The bathroom reeked -- not like puke, but like that chemical stuff the elementary school janitor would sprinkle on puke before cleaning it up. Overall the building was in poor shape and everything was grimy. The breakfast was also lacking. Even on a Tuesday morning, there was no seating in the tiny area, which is really just a hallway, so we had to carry our icky food from the 5th floor down to our 1st floor room. It was also super hot up there and really cramped with all the people standing in the narrow hallway trying to load up plates. The apple juice was fermented and an employee yelled at us for throwing it in the trash even though there wasn't a place to dispose of liquids. Won't stay here again. read more

Do NOT stay at this hotel. I wish I hadn't! Very bad cell phone service in Baraboo, the land line in the hotel room can only make calls within Baraboo, no long distance, intermittent internet, toilet didn't flush, no bulbs in two of the lamps, sink didn't drain properly, no ice machine on the floor, no plug near the microwave, and of course, no plug near the coffee maker. All in all, no bargain for the $125 a night that they charge. Oh, and snarky reception desk staff. read more

Our stay was below average. I am a runner and upon checking in, I discovered that both of their treadmills were not working. They both made loud noises and one of them was stuck on incline, and the other treadmill would only work for less than 1/10 of a mile before it just stopped on its own. So I had to run outside. Luckily the weather was nice. We did complain to management, and they reduced our room rate. One other issue was that they were not prepared in the breakfast area for memorial day weekend. We had our breakfast there on Sunday morning, and they had run out of butter with over an hour yo go before breakfast ended. And I also noticed that they probably ran out of orange juice, because there was about 1/3 of a jug left, and one of the workers came out and took it, and when she brought it back it was light colored orange. It almost looked like lemonade. I poured a little in my glass, and sure enough, it was watered down orange juice. I'm not sure if we will stay there again. Oh, and on top if all that, the breakfast area on the 5th floor was sweltering hot with 2 little fans running. read more

I stayed here recently on a hiking trip to Devil's Lake and chose it mainly because lodging options in the area are limited. The staff were very nice but the hotel itself was really dirty and badly in need of some TLC. There were food stains on the pillow cases that someone had simply flipped over instead of cleaning. There was some white crusty mess (food? puke? bodily fluids?) dried up on the bed skirt. I ended up basically taking the pillows and blankets off the bed and sleeping on the bare sheets with my jeans and socks on and a hoodie zipped up over my head. The hallway outside was randomly super hot (like 80+ degrees) and the elevator smelled like ancient, stale cigarette smoke. This place is not worth it for the price ($130/night). If you're planning on hiking in the area, I recommend just sticking to the camp grounds (way cheaper and you know your tent and sleeping bags are clean!). Would not recommend. read more
