**Perfect Place Gone to Waste!** The hotel itself was actually pretty cool, which is why this was so disappointing. The building and setup had potential, but the way the stay was handled left a bad impression. Like a lot of hotels now, there seems to be an upcharge for every little thing. Want to check in 25 minutes early? That's $25. Want to check out 30 minutes after 11? That's another charge. But when the pool and hot tub are out of commission -- amenities that are part of what you're paying for -- you don't get any discount or adjustment. The real issue, though, was the attitude and how the situation was handled. I had paid for another night, just in a more expensive/better room, and they still tried to charge me $25, with the threat of charging more if more time passed, because I wasn't out of the original room immediately after 11 a.m. Instead of helping make the room change smooth, they were rude and treated it like I was doing something wrong. My mom flew to Grand Junction for a Sibling Reunion and ended up with a mild heart attack two days after she arrived. Four days later I checked in late to stay one night at the Clarion Inn. Brooklyn was so nice and accommodating. She was very sweet and offered to reserve my same room for a second night in case I needed it. The next morning, I had breakfast and was speaking with Candee while I waited for my cousins to pick me up. She was also very sweet. We had a great conversation when I told her about my short weekend visit from California. The hotel is very clean with a friendly staff, even the shuttle from the airport! I completely forgot that my daughter and I stayed here once and really enjoyed our stay. So starting our vacation, we stayed at the Nightmarish travel lodge by Wyndham, where everything was horrible. But here ALL WAS GOOD. Looked familiar too. My wifi was decent, my room was clean and relaxing, my sleep was GREAT. And breakfast was fantastic! The coffee was delicious. I'm hoping the construction will improve a variety of things for Clarion Inn. Let's begin with the fact you have to lift the toilet lid for the bathroom door to close ....then the continental breakfast that has two items that are gluten free-a banana and a yogurt. The parking lot is shared with another hotel so parking is slim pickings! So the good stuff: it's a suite with a bed in one side and a couch and sofa etc in the other side... could be a 3 or 4 someday but until there's a big upgrade on the laboratory we will go with 2 read more

Overall, our stay was great considering the COVID restrictions. The signage in the hotel could have been improved, since I had to travel a winding path and go through a door to get to my hotel room from the lobby. It might have been easier if my husband who was moving the car hadn't taken the map. I really appreciated what they did with the breakfast buffet. They had frozen breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and other individually wrapped items available. I thought the selection was particularly good, relatively healthy, and convenient! It was suggested that you eat in your hotel room, which we did. I noticed that some of the guests weren't masking at the time near the pool/play area, but it appeared to be a single family unit and I wasn't going to hang with them, so ... I don't know if they would have masked if another family had joined them. The location is wonderful with many nice restaurants located nearby. We didn't hear any planes, but one of the nights we were there, a refrigerated semi-truck needed to be running all night and happened to be in the parking lot outside our window. That's what earplugs are for! I used their exercise room and while the computer portion of their elliptical was broken, the exercise part worked just fine and I didn't need to be told all of the data blah-blah. As for Pokemon Go, there's a gym at the gas station nearby, but it wasn't close enough to hit from the room. I liked quite a lot of the photos at the Pokestops nearby. read more

Horrible experience and very unprofessional staff! 1st off we are both handicapped and we get a room at the back of the hotel. In the first 24 hours our key fails to work at either the back door or the room door 8 times. 8 times we had to walk yo the front for new keys. When my husband finally has enough and gets angry with them the night manager Deb gets offended. Deb knows my family im in town to see and she calls my dad because her feelings are hurt. Im a 40 year old woman! So when I call Deb to see what's going on and I ask her how many times do we need to locked out before getting upset she hangs up on me. I called back only for her to kick us out. I never once raised my voice or cussed at this woman. I've never been so disrespected by a business in my life! This hotel is a true throwback to a bygone era--something like the later 1960s or 1970s. It features a diamond-shaped indoor pool, located right inside of the atrium, a game area, and various hang-out-and-chill spots. Our room was comfortable but rather "tired" looking. The hotel offered an excellent breakfast buffet, which was a nice change of pace for modern-day hotels. The hotel staff were doing absolutely nothing with regard to promoting COVID safety, including not wearing masks themselves, not asking or encouraging guests to do so, and having no conspicuous measures in place to keep people safe amid a worldwide pandemic. read more

The guests and staff were very lax with Covid safety. If you care about Covid exposure wear an N95 at all times. I witnessed three staff wearing masks on their mouths only including people who clean rooms. I saw about 15 guests with no masks indoors, seven of whom were at the front desk and were not told to put on masks by the staff, even though there were signs up saying that masks were required. Also, the beds in our double room were double, not queen sized. Check your reservation to make sure you don't inadvertently get two double beds when you want two queens. read more

For a Clarion Inn, affordable lodging, this was awesome and I'm giving them a 5star rating which I have never really done even in hotels. Here's why- Staff-great Rooms-clean Beds were comfy Water pressure- full pressure Free WiFi- unsecured so that's not good Free Hot Breakfast- not fancy but tasted great and a lot of choices Heated pool Pool tables and Foos ball table You can get rooms where you have a front door and back door to parking lot- that comes in handy unloading. read more

I'd say 3.5 stars right now. It is very outdated and desperately needs a GM with great attention to detail who can bring it up to easily be a solid 4 or 5 star hotel. It has a lot of potential, it's clean, I felt safe, but the aesthetics weren't great. First of all, I drove by this place three times before I found it because the street sign blew down in a storm and the outside looks like a casino or restaurant entrance, not very inviting. Only small white letters, hidden under the awning, that you could not see from the street let me know it was the hotel. The hundreds of feet in wires hanging down in the pool area were an eyesore and a possible hazard with how low they hung. Also, the hall way next to the pool could really use some lighting. I was pretty creepy walking down the dark corridor at night. The room was fine, the staff was nice, as was the breakfast. The pool and hot tub was nice, but maybe add directions on how to open the safety locks on the gates. I would stay here again. read more

The Clarion Inn is a low-cost hotel in Grand Junction. It's a little dated, 70's style, but clean! They allow pets, but no kids! Just kidding! For a quick one night stay, I would recommend them. A great find. West of here is a lodging and dining desert so finding this place while driving east was welcome. No problems here and the price was good. At front desk we heard that what they had was king suite. We expected something like $225. The clerk apologetically said the price was something like $100. We got that down to $97.20 via AAA. At that price I can't complain. Maybe it is not the Plaza or Waldorf in NYC but it was great. Nice breakfast. Convenient to I70. For dinner try Bin 707 Foodbar in Grand Junction. Not real close to Clarion but worth the 15 minute or so drive. read more

My family and I went for a mini trip in August 2015 to visit some family nearby. They have plenty of parking and conveniently close by walmart, safeway and gas stations (cheap prices). Every staff was absolutely friendly and engaging. The lobby is spacious (compared to Anaheim, CA) with 2 different lounging area. Check-in and check-out services were super quick. The complimentary warm breakfast is served in the morning with eggs, bacon, cereal, waffles, muffins, yogurt and fruits. They have a indoor and outdoor pool. Next to the indoor pool, they have pool tables and more lounge chairs. The rooms and the beds were smaller then I expected but everything was clean. The lower level are dog friendly rooms but you could not tell a difference except the extra door to the pool and dog area. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place for you. read more

Great Inn with lots of guest rooms. Reception is welcoming and spacious with complimentary coffee and tea in the foyer. There is an indoor pool and an out door pool, a business center, and pool/ hockey table. Breakfast was adequate, however, I wish there was fresh cut summer fruits available (i.e strawberries, cantaloupes, honeydew melon). My single queen room was very clean, tidy, and quiet. The one thing I wish the room possessed is a microwave; however, there is a microwave for guest use near the reception area. My four night stay was met with a comfy bed, soft pillows, great and quiet working A/C and a dorm sized refrigerator. Location is near a number of great eats. There were first floor rooms with direct assess to the outside parking lot, but fortunately I got a room on the second floor with entrance assess on the inside (something preferred). I look forward to staying again in the future. read more

am from Grand Junction, and come back regularly to see family. I have stayed here every couple of months (or at least yearly) for the past 10 years. We have always come here because of the atrium area and courtyard so that we can see our family whom all live here still. The courtyard has been closed for well over a year due to some never ending construction, but we have always stayed due to the wide open atrium that allows us to visit with our family. This time, we brought friends from Montana and told them about how much we loved this place. We talked them into staying here with us dispute their trepidation because of the aging building. The first two days of their stay they never had their room cleaned. Each time they called to ask for it to be cleaned, they were told it would be done, yet it never was. They eventually had to go get their own towels so that they could bathe. The "12 year old manager" this evening publicly, verbally assaulted my elderly mother at the pool (literally snapping her fingers in my mother's face), and several of my family members who were here visiting us. They did the same thing to another group of people also there visiting. They literally threatened us to close down the whole atrium and pool if we didn't "disband" immediately! Someone in our family went to the front desk, told them that we had cake for our family (my daughter found out she would be having a baby girl in August). We were told we could have the cake with our family in the atrium area. Another employee came in again, walked in the middle of our group and aggressively tossed giant garbage cans in the middle of the floor between all of us and left. The other group involved went to the front desk to complain and inquire why they were being treated this way. They were told that the rules because of COVID in Grand Junction were that you could not gather with food. They were told that if we all got rid of our food we would be ok. So, we got rid of our food. We were still accosted, threatened "by name" and told that the General Manager would "deal with me in the morning". I was told that the rules of the hotel were that we were not allowed to move the chairs or have food in the atrium. We were told that there was no staff employed there to deal with putting the chairs back. There were no signs posted stating this, and nothing that I was shown when I checked in that said that it was against the rules to move around the chairs. They said I was told the rules, so I asked them to show me the rules. They left, and some time later brought me a make shift paper that said that there was no birthday parties allowed. As I was not having a birthday party, and have never been given these rules, I asked to have the copy of the "rules" I signed/initialed when I checked in. This is when I was told the General Manager would "deal with me because they were done with me". They kicked all of our kids out of the pool. Our family and the other family there left. However, I stayed and saw several more groups come and "gather" and saw the pool be opened up for them. Their families were left alone to gather. My family and I will NEVER stay at this establishment again. I am embarrassed that I brought friends 800 miles to stay here. I am disgusted. Oh, and forgot to mention the cockroaches! The live ones escaped, so I only got the pics of the dead ones. read more

When in Grand Junction we always stay here. We can bring our dogs, there is a very good continental breakfast, and a pool for the kids. We travel with our pets and finding a decent hotel that is pet friendly for a fair price, is hard. Clarion fits the bill. The rooms are nothing to brag about, but they are clean. Each room has a mini fridge and microwave. The breakfast is better than most. We stayed for the nights. Each day there was a different breakfast selection. There were waffles, cereal, bagels, some fruit, a hot meat, scrambled eggs, and hash browns each day. One day it was ham, the next sausage, and the last day a corn beef hash. There is an indoor pool (and I heard a seasonal outdoor pool). It's small, but my kids loved it anyway. All these amenities without breaking the bank. Great value! Passing through Grand Junction on our way to Vegas, this was a great find. Located right off the highway, close to gas and close to restaurants if you need them. The room was clean and nice. Typical road side motel, so not a lot of bells and whistles. They only had a room with two double beds, but we made due. Soft towels, and lots of them; toiletries were ok, but they had the basics, plus mouth wash (love my hotel toiletries!). The room was equipped with a mini fridge, coffee maker and lots of coffee supplies including glass coffee mugs. The hotel was big, and had a great courtyard area that had a pool, hot tub and recreation area where you could play pool, foosball and air hockey-so great if your traveling with kids that need to burn some energy. Complimentary coffee and a large tea selection was available in the lobby, which was nice. There is also a small gym and business center, but we didn't use either. Complimentary breakfast is served in the same courtyard area and it was really good. Lots of the typical stuff (waffles, yogurt, cereal), but also eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy. Man am I happy I found this place. For some reason whenever I looked for places to stop in Grand Junction (usually on the way to or from California) this one hadn't popped up - or at least I hadn't noticed it. Fortunately I happened to get off 70 to get some gas and spotted the large "Pet Friendly" sign, which was important to me because it's hard to find a place to stop when I have a pet with me. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and emphasized that they consider pets family and don't charge extra for them. My foot was injured at the time and as soon as I requested a cart to help me with luggage the porter (Joanne) immediately offered to bring it near the door where I would be parking. She ended up doing one better and, while we talked about the local area and my kitty, helped me bring all my things into the room - including my bike. I hadn't had much to eat that day and with my injury preventing extra walking I asked about room service and was delighted to find out that the restaurant provided it. I had a fantastic salad delivered to my room and, while it was on the pricier side, I wrote that off as a pretty normal "feature" of room service :-) The following morning my injury had gotten a little worse and I requested a wheelchair. Joanne (who had gone home and started another shift in the intervening time) brought a chair by that was more for transporting people than people transporting themselves (it had four small wheels) and then when she saw me and recognized that I was traveling alone went to look for a regular wheelchair. She found one and brought it back for me without my requesting it! Breakfast was pretty good with a nice variety of options which the average traveler will be accustomed to in the upper 3-star tier: eggs, hash browns, sausage, waffle makers, and juice were all available in an open and airy breakfast nook near the indoor pool and hot tub. The latter was a nice feature to observe (though I wasn't able to use either the pool or hot tub this trip) but one of the coolest aspects of the design of the hotel was that there was also an outdoor pool and hot tub WITHIN the hotel, with no direct access to the area outside. This definitely makes for a more private and secure-feeling experience, especially for families with kids. All of the above led me to put Clarion at the top of my list for places to stop with our family when we're traveling between the west coast and Denver. Enough so that we'll probably plan our western trips around it in way similar to how we plan our southern trips (to AZ) through Durango to stop at the Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn. Stayed for 4 nights at a reasonable rate. Sure the hotel was a little dated but it also had clean and comfortable rooms, a decent breakfast, and a few amenities for your kids. We felt it was a great value. I also noticed the interior of the hotel was quieter than most. We were not far from the lobby and sure you hear kids running down the hall every now and then, but noise between rooms and outside the rooms seemed minimal. My only suggestion would be to improve the WiFi. read more

I stayed at the Clarion Inn for two days during the Mountain Winefest in Palisade. There weren't a lot of choices left when I reserved, but it was such a great discovery! The Winefest shuttle picked us up and dropped us off right at the door. It looks unimpressive from the outside, but is immaculate, has super-friendly staff, and lots of amenities typical of the best budget family hotels: -They allow pets! I asked about our two dogs, 50-60+ pounds, and they said they would be fine as long as they are on the first floor. -Free wifi and it is fast. -Vending machines! -Free hot breakfast, including waffles, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt. -Indoor *and* outdoor pools. -The attached restaurant, Pantuso's, was far above the usual restaurant hotel. If it is packed (as it was the night I arrived), you can eat in the bar, where there is an abbreviated (but entirely adequate) menu. The server forgot about me temporarily (single-woman-dining-alone syndrome), but made up for it by giving me a wine sample. The wine list is a treat because it includes Colorado wines. I liked Pantuso's so much that I made a reservation for the next night and had the sweet potato gnocchi, which was excellent. -Coffee in the room and lobby. No tea in the room, but you can snag that in the lobby. -Comfy and quiet. The only reason for a 4 star rating was the lack of elevator. Not a huge issue, but dragging a suitcase full of wine bottles downstairs is not especially fun. My husband and I love to visit Grand Valley AVA wineries on our own and bring our dogs along instead of boarding them. This is a great option! read more

Coming into town on an extremely long road trip from California- I have to say this place was a breath of fresh air. Everything from the check in to finding our room was a breeze. This hotel is pet friendly which is awesome. We were located in a room and our back door faced a courtyard. Our dog was able to easily use the restroom and the room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi and a beautiful atrium. The complimentary breakfast had many options to choose from and the food was delicious. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget. What I loved most about this place was that it was very cheap but it met every single expectation. This truly was a GEM to find. Overall, a nice and extremely clean and welcoming place. The staff was helpful and courteous and I felt comfortable the entire time! read more

I've waffles back in forth deciding if I should say something regarding our stay at this location and decided something needs to be said. My wife and I are checking out of the clarion in grand junction this morning. We care down for our complimentary breakfast and as we approach the buffet had someone ask for our tickets. There's about 20 people entering tickets are not requested. As we sit down a second person then ask for our tickets, again people entering and exiting no one asking for their tickets. We are the only couple of color in the room and barely made it to sit down before two of your employees obviously untrained in diversity have asked us to present that we're staying in this hotel. My wife at this point is upset and just wants to leave however we've paid the same price as anyone else to stay here. In this day in age it's extremely important to make everyone feel that they matter not just your white guest. Now my wife works for the New York Times and we needed a place to lay our heads to continue our journey but please know that this will not fly, this behavior will be reported and actions will be taken. I hope you decide to invest in training for your employees. This is all after having a difficult time checking in after we made the reservation over the phone and passing employees in the hallway smelling of marijuana. A great hotel for the price. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was tiny and showed signs of decay, but nothing out of the ordinary and at the price point I was fine with it. Beds were firm and the bedding was crisp and clean. TV not too large, but a flat screen and a good selection of 40 - 50 channels. Mini fridge. The hotel is massive but well-kept; staff are helpful and plentiful. The hotel is like a gigantic square and there's a large open courtyard in the middle with a pool and whirlpool. This area also has some designated pet areas, which was great for us since our room opened into the courtyard and we could just stroll out with Fido and be back within a minute or two. I can imagine this not being ideal for non pet-lovers, but it was really well kept and aside from a little trash can and poop bag station, I would hardly know it was used for this purpose. Dogs stay free. FREE! A lot of rooms on the first floor open right onto the parking lot, so you can just back in and unload. I really like this, but I could see it as off-putting for some. Besides the outdoor pool, there's one inside as well in a giant atrium. This isn't a setup you see very much anymore, and I really enjoyed the mix of guest rooms, tables, chairs and the pool / whirlpool which is much more inviting and community-like than a totally cut-off single purpose "pool room" with concrete floors or some such. Staff were really friendly and readily available. The lobby was nice and reception was warm and welcoming. The location is very convenient (right off the interstate and 10 minutes from downtown) but with this comes some sketchiness. Not a lot. Just enough to remind you that you're not in the suburbs or at a posh resort. Breakfast is pretty par for the course: waffles, instant eggs, sausage, bagels, yogurt, cereal etc. They had some of the worst sausage gravy I've ever had, but given the overall selection I can hardly knock em' for this. You have to retain and present breakfast tickets to dine, which is kinda tacky but I'm sure they've got good reasons for this (see note on sketchiness above). Bottom line? Very satisfied with the hotel and frankly pleasantly surprised. I've been staying at Choice Hotels for awhile now and this is definitely one of the best ones I've been to.
