Where do I start?! How about.. WOW! I came here with my pops and girlfriend for their first Sunday's Free Day on November 2nd. You could literally spend an entire day here admiring and analyzing all of the beautiful artwork. From Claude Lorrain and John Singer Sargent to Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec, they had so many of the greats. What makes this place even more special is that you're invited to wonder the outsound grounds as well! From trails to vast fields to outdoor sculptures and structures.. there is even more to see. I can't wait to return during the snowy months and participate in their Project Snowshoe. Essentially, you're able to borrow a pair of complementary snoe shoes to help you discover the 140 acres of unparalleled beauty.

Living two hours away, it's a haul to get here, but lovely scenery is everywhere on your way. You may arrive at the Clark Art Institute already feeling inspired, but there's more to come. This glossy campus is actually pretty family-friendly. My kid was given a sketchbook and pencil outside the permanent collection building, then had the joy of filling with the images and views of her choice, plus a plain air sketch while we ate outside on the patio. Yes, bring a picnic! As beloved as the Clark collection is, the traveling exhibitions are always memorable too. Viewing guides gave a closer look at the traveling works, and can also be found with other goodies in the well-lit museum shop. Knowledgeable and pleasant staff throughout, and hiking trails for another day. Can't wait to come back!

This is a must visit museum in Western Massachusetts! Go for the art and enjoy the beautiful grounds with water ponds and walking trails and an educational center, oh and a cafe and wonderful gift shop. The Clark offers hours of art exploring with special exhibits and permanent collections, and there were 6 outdoor sculptures to discover. We saw the British Women artists activists and Berenice Abbott photo exhibits. We wandered for 3 hours thru several buildings finding visual treasures along the way. The village of Williamstown is charming for its local feel of the few blocks long downtown. Restaurants, college shops and a classy gallery there too. The Clark is a great destination when traveling out to this part of the Berkshires!

Loved this museum! Many different pieces to look at. Very spacious and the outside view is next to mountains. Would love to come back again!

This may be the best museum in the state and definitely gives MFA a run for its money. Yes, it's not as large and diverse (art-wise) as the aforementioned Boston museum, but the addition of natural beauty and hiking trails gives this museum an advantage. Since I love impressionists, this museum was my jam. However, there's a decent amount of other European and American art. There's a more hidden collection of American furniture and glass in the library. Speaking of, if you like books and libraries, the Williams College art library is housed here. It has that mid-modern design and has a decent amount of books. The gift shop has the museum books for sale, but heavily discounted when I came. The cafe was okay, with the usual higher prices. I had a chicken sandwich, which was passable. The museum fare is about equivalent to ones around Boston. However, when I came, admission was for two days. So I could come back the next day when I show my receipt. We did some hiking around the grounds the first day, did some museum-ing towards the end of the first day, and then finished up the next day.

Surrounded by rolling hills and lush mountains, this minimalist building makes a striking and yet elegant presence. The modern interior combined with the reflection pools immediately bring a sense of tranquility. Inside, you'll find paintings and sculptures by some of the most renowned European and American artists. A real gem in western MA!

First visit here, and wow, what a beautiful, high-quality art museum it is! We spent several hours admiring the galleries and their displays of some amazing fine arts works. We're fans of impressionism, and the Monets, Renoirs and others are just dazzling. The crowds aren't huge -- at least not on this say -- so we could get close to the hanging works, study them and step back to admire them all without having to contend with many others trying to do the same. The galleries cover a wealth (literally!) of fine art and sculpture; their collections are outstanding. The museum has beautiful grounds, too, though it was pouring rain when we visited and force us to stay inside. that wasn't a chore, however, and it afforded us more reasons to savor what the Clark has to offer (including its well-stocked gift shop). There's a large parking lot and a very nice cafe downstairs. What a treasure!

Really enjoyed my visit here this week. The staff is friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the tour I did with one of the docents. You definitely could spend all day here as there is so much to see. The food in the cafe is excellent, I recommend getting a ham and cheese panini. If it's a nice day, be sure to go for a walk on one of their trails.

This is what I came to see in this beautiful art museum.

"Fumee d' Ambergris" !!! I fell in love with John Singer Sargent's painting and travelled here just for this. There are two other paintings of his on either side.

I was amazed to see Degas Little Dancer in Williamstown, MA. I really enjoyed the collection. I think you need an hour or two here. On a nice day there is a beautiful reflection pool and trails to explore They also offer a wonderful student discount that all students should take advantage of

There are lots of nice trails throughout the woods behind the museum. You can use AllTrails for a map or the museum's website has a map of the trails as well.

One of the greatest small museums I the country.Has expanded and always has special exhibits that are great like current Lethiere. Curated by art historians.Plus fabulous permanent collection begun by the Clarks. Excellent research library with helpful people. Worth a visit anytime!

Simply an amazing museum with a world class collection. So comfortable. Catch a lecture on the expansive campus. Great architecture and planning. A bit expensive, though.

The museum is massive, with tons of exhibits. You'll find a mix of contemporary art, immersive installations, plus regular live performances. We spent hours exploring/wandering. Some exhibits lean abstract or experimental, so it helps to go in with an open mind, but that's part of the appeal. Overall, it's a must-visit, and I hope to come back to catch their dusk/dawn exhibit, which seems to be a staple.

We have always enjoyed our time there but prefer to go a bit less often so we don't keep seeing the same things. The buildings are so cool but it is large and a little confusing to navigate. As with any art, there's been certain exhibits we've loved and others that weren't as interesting to us. It would be cool to have some more info about what the building used to be and how it used to look. I think the price could be prohibitive for a lot of people or for families. I am not knowledgeable about contemporary art but I like browsing here. We have done one of the free tours before as well. There are some times exhibits and those require advance booking online (the cost in included). This means many times, there were no slots available during the days and times we'd planned to visit. That felt like some people were getting "more for their money" and like we'd missed out. There was a roller coaster that ran once per hour and so I think members got first choice of spots so there was no availability for months (we never did get to experience the ride). There are a few James Turrell experiences that also require pre-registration. This makes it impossible to see them if you do a spontaneous visit.

There are three interesting levels chock full of North Adams/Northern Berkshire history. The bottom floor is divided into a series of rooms - a map room, a mock school house, a room dedicated to police and fire services, etc. The second floor is perhaps my favorite, as it has a large train centerpiece which is based off of the area railways. There's an amazing vintage Amtrak electronic schedule sign, which is beyond neat. There's also a room dedicated to the local floral and fauna of the area, with a large section highlighting beekeeping. The third floor is also pretty cool, with a black light room, which kids will definitely enjoy. All and all, this is obviously a huge labor of love by the people who run the museum, and the volunteers working there were an absolute delight and totally knowledgeable. If you're in the area, visiting Mass MoCa, consider popping by this place. It's a bit hard to find (it's across from the heritage state park museum), but it's totally worth it.

I went into this with realistic expectations. I did not expect to see a completely invisible restoration, but when I finally had the opportunity to inspect the "restored" piece I was shocked by how crude the work was. The section that was reattached does not align properly with the section it had been broken off from, at the joint line they are two different heights. The wide and boldly visible bond line between the two sections is very distracting and its surface is irregular and unsightly At the edge where the two pieces connect there is an open area that's missing material. I have shown images to two longtime museum restoration experts I know and asked for their opinion. They were reluctant to critique another restorer's work but in spite of their professional reticence one said, "That this could look much better." The other restorer noted "it should have been possible to achieve a far less visible (though not invisible) joint." I came to the Williamstown Art Conservation Center after speaking with other restorers who said the size and weight of the sculpture put the job beyond their comfort zones. The poor quality of repair work displayed on the Duckworth seems to indicate that the Williamstown team should have said the same. It would have saved me a great deal of time and money as well as avoiding WACC having a very unhappy customer. Now I need to find a more knowledgeable person who will first have to undo the work the Williamstown team has done before they can improve and bring the sculpture to a presentable condition. The Williamstown Art Conservation Center has an excellent reputation, but this very disappointing repair certainly does not live up to it. Douglas Heller Heller Gallery NYC
