I have been a student at this school since 6th grade, and after spending three years here, I can…read morehonestly say my experience has been HORRIBLE. One of my biggest concerns is the education. During 6th and 7th grade, I don't feel like I learned much in my English or Math classes because the teachers didn't seem to put much effort into helping students understand the material. In 8th grade, I had teachers who actually cared and made learning easier, and I appreciate that. But overall, I don't think this school has done a good job preparing students academically. Another problem is the way students treat each other. A lot of kids are disrespectful to other students, and even when staff members see it happening, it doesn't always seem like they do anything about it. It makes the school feel less safe and welcoming. I've also been on the volleyball team since 6th grade, and I have had some disappointing experiences there too. One coach, Ms. McDaniel, caused a lot of unnecessary drama, even with a team she didn't coach. It also felt like she had favorites, which made things unfair for other players. One time, I politely asked Ms. McDaniel if she could help tell people to shag volleyballs during practice. Instead of helping, she said in a rude tone, "Since you wanna be captain so bad, you do it." The thing is, I actually was one of the team captains. I was just trying to help the team, and I don't think I deserved to be spoken to that way. Coaches should encourage and respect their players, especially when they're trying to be responsible. Another situation that really bothered me was when one of my teammates respectfully spoke up because she felt Ms. McDaniel was being unfair during practice. Instead of listening to her, Ms. McDaniel yelled at her in front of everyone. It upset my teammate so much that she started crying. I don't think any student should be treated that way for respectfully sharing how they feel. I know no school is perfect, but I hope this school works on improving the education, making students feel safer, and treating athletes with more respect. I hope the school sees this and tries to make more changes in their program.

Honestly there's a couple of good teachers that really do take their job seriously but overall like I said the assistant down to the principal down to the ladies within the office allow so much to transpire but will not be sending my son this to this school next year this school allows the bullying allows the torment allows the suicide thoughts run across our kids and don't care! It's very sad cuz I never of my son being in school felt defeated when it comes to his education until he came to this school not even just his education alone just his safety his sanity everything and every time he tries to conversate with someone it falls on deaf ears every time I request the phone call back it falls on deaf ears!

They come to work miserable ready to take all the things going wrong in their personal lives out on students, parents, and even some staff. The lady at the register is an absolute (pardon my language) but a bitch. they have no type of human decency in that office and are always miserable like if the kids are at fault for their career choice. Even had teachers come into that office and back out with different attitudes due to the way they maneuver in that office. Stop Just Hiring People who have these types of attitudes and ways. Instead hire genuine and understanding people. and this is why the world is the way it is because people like this are raising our upcoming generations.

I've gone to this school since freshman year. I'm a junior now. I've made friends here, I show up,…read moreand I try to do what I'm supposed to do but tbh let's stop pretending this school doesn't have major problems. Because it does. The policies are bad, and they punish students instead of actually helping them learn. The school says it cares about education, but the moment a student gets a few tardies, they're thrown into in-house suspension and stuck on a laptop all day. That's not teaching. That's not helping. That's isolating students from real classrooms and calling it "discipline." How does removing students from class help them succeed? It doesn't. i would like an explanation to counter claim that. putting them in in-house isn't going to help them for the future, some kids don't even want to come to school because they don't want to sit in in-house. And the tardy system itself is ridiculous. Morning traffic on 5th Street and Alexander is a mess every single day. Parents block the bike lane to drop off their kids, cars are half in the road, and no one can move. I've literally been unable to get into the parking lot because of this. That delay is completely out of students' control, but we're the ones getting punished for it? First period tardies should not be treated the same as being late to class during the day. In the morning, students have to fight traffic, find parking, and walk across campus. Getting a tardy and having it go on your record because you're one minute late is unfair. One minute does not mean a student doesn't care. It means the system is broken. If this school actually cared about learning, it would fix the traffic issues and rethink policies that keep students out of classrooms. Right now, it feels like the school is more focused on control than education and students are the ones paying the price. if you want kids to learn let them learn.

Unfortunately i was told i would have to physically come in just to do so. Not too long ago my child had left his school badge in his backpack inside of one of his teachers class during lunch for the first time (a mistake) since school has started and had attempted to retrieve it. He called me when school was out to inform me that during the time he attempted to go back and get his badge he was seen by the school principal Ms. Poster who had questioned about where he was going? He informed her of the above reason as she then declined him of doing so. He stated she told him she would go grab it since she wasn't allowing him to because "nobody as in teachers were in their classroom." So he then returned to the cafeteria as he awaited for his badge as he was told and notices time was going by. He then came in contact with Ms. Clayton (unknown title) who had been in his presence who was seen talking amongst others. My child stated that he wanted to notify her of him waiting in his badge to eat lunch if she'd contact Ms. Poster for him. He stated she disregarded his request and continued to talk to others as she had then began to slowly walk off. My child said he as well slowly followed with Ms. Clayton then telling him to "stop following me." He then again stated he's not and continued to request i once again if she would follow up with Ms. Poster for him? My child then says Ms.Clayton told him "I'm not talking to you" and proceeded to walk away. All that to say my child didn't get to eat lunch but as a mother i did inform him not to ever leave his badge again but i would follow up on this matter. I called the school about 3 days straight for Ms. Poster before she finally responded. Must i mention my child has nothing bad to say about her however when i brought this matter to her attention as she played clueless for a second she stated to me she never told my child she was going to get his badge for him while also stating his teacher was having lunch (how would you know if you didn't check?) my child said that was false and that she told him nobody was in the 600 hall. I then informed of the comments made toward my child by Ms. Clayton as she of course was in denial but as someone who wasn't present how can you speak for another? She appeared to sound concerned and stated she would follow up with my son which she still hasn't. I did receive a call from the male assistant principal who was so very polite to me & i felt the confer but due to Ms. Poster stating she would follow up as a colleague he reassured that he believed she would but unfortunately did not and has not. I didn't appreciate my child missing lunch let alone being spoken to how he was (he wouldn't lie about that). He's a very well mannered child not perfect but very respectful to his elders as he's been taught and he was treated otherwise. I also don't appreciate Ms. Poster speaking up for Ms. Clayton simply because she was not there and you don't know how or what these teachers say to our children. This is why a lot of matters go unnoticed now. Lastly a dance occurred for the school and my child was denied of attending due to not being able to pay the day of. I unfortunately got paid late which is most definitely not their fault however the day of hurts to accept just make it count for our children? That's pathetic simply because they don't know what delays anyone has in their personal life. I truly regret my child going this school. Other than the admin Ms. Martinez, Ms. CiCi and all of his teachers have been nothing short of amazing with not only their communication with me as a parent and following up but their SUPPORT alone, they need more of them rather the ones there just for a title and check. I truly hope there are some changes within this school more so the admin alone!!!

Somerset Academy has been my school for 8.5 years of my life (Kindergarten to 7th). I am 12 now…read moreand I'm here to tell you why I choose 2 stars. Kindergarten through 2nd were my best years here, every other year after were not the best. A thing currently wrong about this school is that students are too scared to tell any staff about which students are bullying or possibly threatening them which upsets me because the staff could help a lot. Most of the kids here are horrible, racist and rude and staff are barely doing ANYTHING about it! I mean come on? There are students scared to come to school because some of these students are so rude? Ive seen some kids get bullied so much the past couple years and if i was them i wouldn't want to come to school at all. The education here i feel is a bit below average, students here are smart but some teachers are bad at explaining and shy students are afraid to ask for help. I'm a fast learner but sometimes I get stuck on something and just never learn the topic. Teachers need to focus on certain students that may need the extra help so possibly give more tutoring opportunities for students? I have been in trouble at the school before and I would say it was handled nicely. I mean staff were encouraging me to open up about what happened and didn't yell at me or anything but im not short tempered like some students which is probably making some of us scared to talk to you guys because you cant keep your composure when students get upset or angry at you or someone else which makes me pretty upset. I mean I have recently moved to a school people would consider "gangster" but it already seems much better than Somerset Aliante. I don't understand why this school is rated so well especially considering the fact some students have been involved in fights and conflict which haven't been told to staff about. But thanks for the effort. My favorite teachers/staff here are Ms. Glodfelter (2nd), Ms Buell (5th), Mrs. Sok (4th), Ms. Jaimes (6th), Ms. Matyszczyk (6-8), Ms. Smith (5th), Ms. Gaxiola (k-5th), Coach Harvey (K-5th), Ms, Brackenbury (6th), Ms. Davis (Assistant). Thank you!
