My daughter just graduated 5th grade. She has been at this school since 1st grade. We absolutely will miss this school. The staff cares and takes concerns seriously. My daughter left crying, and so did I! It made me realize how much we appreciated everyone and everything about this school. The coolest gesture was to gift every graduate a certificate with a picture of their cap and gown portrait. WOW !! I just imagine those parents that are out there struggling wishing they can afford the picture and couldn't , opening up the certificate to that beautiful picture. Somerset Academy has been my school for 8.5 years of my life (Kindergarten to 7th). I am 12 now and I'm here to tell you why I choose 2 stars. Kindergarten through 2nd were my best years here, every other year after were not the best. A thing currently wrong about this school is that students are too scared to tell any staff about which students are bullying or possibly threatening them which upsets me because the staff could help a lot. Most of the kids here are horrible, racist and rude and staff are barely doing ANYTHING about it! I mean come on? There are students scared to come to school because some of these students are so rude? Ive seen some kids get bullied so much the past couple years and if i was them i wouldn't want to come to school at all. The education here i feel is a bit below average, students here are smart but some teachers are bad at explaining and shy students are afraid to ask for help. I'm a fast learner but sometimes I get stuck on something and just never learn the topic. Teachers need to focus on certain students that may need the extra help so possibly give more tutoring opportunities for students? I have been in trouble at the school before and I would say it was handled nicely. I mean staff were encouraging me to open up about what happened and didn't yell at me or anything but im not short tempered like some students which is probably making some of us scared to talk to you guys because you cant keep your composure when students get upset or angry at you or someone else which makes me pretty upset. I mean I have recently moved to a school people would consider "gangster" but it already seems much better than Somerset Aliante. I don't understand why this school is rated so well especially considering the fact some students have been involved in fights and conflict which haven't been told to staff about. But thanks for the effort. The fucking placement!?? Terrible location for a school very dangerous considering it's in a shopping center and there's no space for kids to be leaving the property. Too many cars and parents don't know how to drive almost had one hit me head on cuz they have no direction and stay on the right side of the road cuz they're all trying to flee like rats off the titanic. Move your location so maybe your children don't have to doge cars like a sport and so you're not inconveniencing everyone else around. read more

Absolutely horrible, unless you're rich or have personal relationship with any of the staff, or are on any sports teams you will not be treated equal both of my children have been bullied and harassed at that school for over 2 years, and none of the staff will do anything about it, they claim to be diverse, but only pay attention and care for the rich sports kids and treat the poor kids who can't afford to do any sports like they were charity case and not human beings honestly literally, any other school would be better than this one​​​ read more

The negative reviews are crazy! This has been the best elementary school! It's small, intimate, the teachers get to know you, you know them. It's fantastic. They truly care about the kiddos and they always have some sort of fun activity or spirit week going on. They care about their education and they push the kiddos to do their best. Yes, it's in a shared space with other businesses, it's a small school like I said... that is a BENEFIT! I highly recommend Somerset North Las Vegas. HIGHLY! Huge shout outs to Mrs. Sitko, Mrs. Gained, Mrs. Fontana, Mr. Bay, and definitely Mr. B! They have all been fantastic to my child! my son started kindergarten here. The school is good and the teachers care. I'm not as thrilled about his current teacher but the teachers over all are great. he is doing above average and enjoys school. The Champions program helps us working parents all 5 days after school $85. read more

Ms. Joye is the worst substitute teacher ever, she was making fun of a student who has a stutter when they asked to get water. I don't want someone who clearly doesn't like kids, around my children. I don't understand how someone would want to be a teacher when they don't even like kids, and the pay isn't good. read more

We need this school to close. Toady was our 2year anniversary and we had to call the police, due to not being told it was a "half day". -No calls, No emails, no text advising this When my daughter ask to call her mother they told her no. They forced her into safe key, where she didn't feel safe and wanted to go home. Also at this time we couldn't find her and we were not notified she was sent there. We called the school and no answer. Left a voice mail, never got a call back. As parents this was terrifying for us. After finding her in safe key with no calls. We told the safe key employee there are other parents out front that couldn't find their children either. He stated, with an attitude "there was only 12 parents". Is 12 not enough!!!!!! 1 should be enough!!! This is crazy. A school that doesn't let my daughter call me is crazy!! read more

The good - So far my daughter has been going to this school for 3 years w/her starting here in kindergarten. The teachers are very receptive, post weekly class goals/bulletins and are very involved w/the students and parents. I make it point to stay involved w/my daughter and her homework/school activities and enjoy seeing her flourish in this environment. There has been a noticeable difference in the environment since they moved the middle school kids to a different campus. No complaints here. W/CCSD strikes and cancelling school, somerset is definitely a better option if you're considering enrolling your kids here. We're looking forward to enrolling our youngest here in kinder starting next year! The bad - So far, each of the teachers that taught my daughter either quit or started working in another school (K-1). Kinda strange? Also, the athletic program kinda went downhill w/the new "management"? We ended up enrolling my child in a private sport's organization for the past few seasons so I'm not too sure if it got better. read more

I attended a JV & Varsity football game here as a "Visitor" & the staff attitude was absolutely horrendous!!! I entered on the "Home" side by accident on the first night.........what a mistake!! After paying the $6 fee for the JV football game, they told me I would have to exit, walk around to the Visitor side & pay again.............excuse me but WHAT??? People are not allowed to make mistakes???? Thankfully I was able to beg & plead my way out of that one & Mike was nice enough to "escort" me to the "other" side "free of charge". Then on Friday night, I learned my lesson & went to the "right" side. Only to learn that the visitors are FORBIDDEN from going to the "Home" side to purchase food!!!! Basically they don't allow "visitors" to "cross-contaminate" the "HOME" side. Also, they closed the bathrooms to visitors (players included) during the football game!!!! What a joke!!! Basically, if you're going to this school as a "VISITOR", you are NOT welcome!!!!!! What a shameful way to model mature behavior & acceptance!! I can't imagine what they are teaching students at this school if this is how they treat "outsiders". read more

Let me see. Where do I begin. Principal , assistant Principals or BOD? No communication. IEP's? Don't follow. Kids get 15 minutes for lunch if they are lucky. Bathroom breaks during class, only with Dr note. And what kind of teacher ridicules a student who has learning disabilities and doesn't help? Isn't what they are hired to do,is teach? And front office rudeness at it's best. And they wonder why patents are fed up. Well if you are smart you will not have your kids go to this school.. My daughter has been attending Somerset Academy's North Las Vegas' Aliante Campus for two years now. When we were first new into this charter school system it seemed chaotic and confusing. I made sure to be an active participant in her education and it has truly paid off. There is a mandatory volunteer commitment of 30 hours per year or $4/hr donation equivalent. Meaning if you can't do time to help out please give. I have no problem with this model because I believe it is the families that make the school. The first year she made the honor roll (6th grade). This past semester (7th grade) her grades slipped a little due to her not turning in homework and not doing what she's supposed to do. I nip that in the bud by taking away her electronics and withholding her favorite Christmas Break activities. I suspect she'll be working her butt off come the spring semester to get her privileges back. Also she rides her bike to school and looks forward to going everyday and is never late. The kids genuinely like each other and being at school. I could tell when I would pick her up after work when she was going to the after school program before she started riding her bike. The problem with Clark Country Schools is that parents drop their kids off and never look back. Clark County Schools can be a good place of learning if more parents were engaged and accountable and work with the teachers to help the students get educated. At Somerset parents take a more active interest in the kids education. I am noticing that a lot of kids are coming in whose parents don't provide support so some of the CCSD problems are migrating into Somerset which sucks. So my thoughts are if you want your kid to get into a school as Somerset please show up and be present or you'll be apart of the problems that plague the CCSD. read more

Somerset academy has propelled my children with learning habits. It has amazed me to see the transformation since joining the school last year. It was a great choice and looking forward to see how this school can continue to help children become leaders in their future respectively. It prepares students for college and beyond. Love this school! My daughter started pre K and kinder in a ccsd public school. I didnt have such a great experience there, the teachers were nice but the system is not great. I had to fight for almost 2 months because my daughter was put in ESL simply because she spoke some spanish at home. Let me be clear. My daughter has no problems speaking, reading or writting in English. When I asked why she was in ESL they said if we mark on the forms that there is a second language at home ESL is automatic. At first I was understanding even though I didnt think she needed it, but still asked the teacher if she thought she needed it. She said it wasnt up to her and I had to call somewhere which I did. Long story short the real reason they didnt want to remove her from ESL is because the school gets funding if they have ESL students. My daughter was so upset having to take ESL because she wanted to participate in the normal class. Not to mention their equipment for the computer course was so bad and hard to use. My daughter loves school but started to hate it because of the situation she was in. So when Somerset called and said they had a spot I registered her that same day! Our experience so far has been great. My daughter loves her school. Loves her friends and teachers! She counted down the days till summer was over. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful at this campus. The teachers all love my daughter because she is so good in class and a good student. I cant believe how well she reads and how much her math skills have improved since she switched. I know this campus has had some changes in administration but I cant complain. All the parents seems to be very involved in the school and their kids education which is an awesome change from ccsd. I would recommend this school to everyone. read more

This school is a waste of time! I thought I was sending my children to a better environment but boy was I entirely wrong! My daughter is in 4th grade and has had an amazing teacher, thankfully this is not my complaint. My complaint has to do with the middle school. My son is in 7th grade and was stuck with a math teacher that does not speak good English, has no idea how to teach math, and is incredibly disorganized. That was the first of my issues at this joke of a school. My second issue was his engineering teacher who was hardly ever in school and when he was he never paid attention to what was going on in his classroom. My son is a talker so I am not discrediting that he needs to learn to keep quiet when it is time for learning. My son was in 3 classes with a kid that was I personally told by 3 teachers, was a bad kid. 3 teachers told me this one boy was not good but they had moved my son away from him because the kid was a troublemaker and my son was better off not being near him. This started a whole can of problems. My son came home the week before Thanksgiving very upset, his arm was black and blue and he could barely move it. When I asked what happened he told me this one boy punched him in his shoulder 5 times as hard as he could in the middle of his engineering class with the teacher present!!! My son was defending himself and hit the kid back to get him to stop because no one else was bothering to help my son and yet my son got into trouble, no one called me to tell me my son was injured and the nurse was not allowed to let my son call and tell me what happened. They had called and informed the other kids parents as to what happened but apparently we didn't deserve a phone call.When I went in to talk to someone about what happened, my son and I were treated like we were the bad guys, apparently you shouldn't question the administration. I demanded that I wanted my son's schedule changed and him out of the same class as this boy, I was told by the middle school assistant principal Mrs. DeAnde that they would take care of it and my son would know his new school by the end of his first period the next day and they would call me and let know that they had moved him. Needless to say the next day I did not get a phone call until later in the afternoon telling me that it was a difficult decision to move around my sons schedule and they needed to do what was in the best interest of the other child as well! I mean seriously!! I wanted my son's schedule changed and as a school if you notice there is an issue why wouldn't you change the kids around so that it does not happen again or get worse. I decided I needed to do what was best for my child and I immediately unenrolled him from Somerset! My other child is still there, her teacher is amazing. My son walks from Findlay to pick her up every day now. As of yesterday, 12-1-16, he was walking in the gate to get his sister when the elementary school assistant principal, MRS. LISA EVANS, grabbed my son by his shirt and pushed him back out of the gate, she demanded his name and when he told her, she made some snotty remark about how I pulled him out of that school over a stupid reason! I am beyond angry, first of all how dare you put your hands on my child, how dare you MRS. EVANS! This school is disgusting and an utter joke. The administration is useless, unprofessional and disgusting! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!!!! read more
