He spent at the most 30 minutes on my case and charged me $2k nonrefundable retainer. The worst part is he didn't do what I paid him to do. As a female I felt like he was very arrogant with me and didn't listen to what the end goal was In my case. Not only did this cost me a family member but now i am very emotional each day since the event. I would never recommend Alex to anyone. Alex is not honest and only cares about his financial outcomes when he has clients. He doesn't care about the his clients or the end goal, he takes short cuts and doesn't consider the client's overall goals. He takes your money and fails to execute the goals agreed to.

I was not impressed with Mr. Kershner, a partner at Simms, Showers, LLC in Leesburg…read more I hired him to fight charges against Loudoun Co Animal Control for being in violation of Federal ADA 28 CFR 35.138, Service animals, I am both mentally and physically disabled, covered under the ADA as well as my service dog. Mr. Kershner wasn't prepared at all, he waited until the day of the trial to "prep" my witness an hour before the hearing, however, he showed up 45 minutes late and did not prep any of my witnesses and it turned into a mess. Since I am Disabled, he assured me that my doctors statement and state medical reports were enough to prove to the courts my disabilities, with the DA offering a continuance to have my doctor there, I asked if my doctor was needed, he replied no, which was another big mistake, He went in front of a judge with a legal document for injunctive relief, that had a MAJOR omission in it, I sent him an email stating that is wasn't true, but he submitted it to the courts without correcting it, thus making me look guilty. After reading over the transcripts of the Court hearing, it appeared that he was helping the DA with their case instead of defending me. I ended up being tried as a non-disabled person and therefore, my service dog was considered a pet and was taken from me by the courts. All because of Mr. Kershner's inadequate preparation, it cost me a small fortune. I am now in Federal Court forcing Loudoun Co to comply with Federal ADA Law.

I am an officer for a non-profit and we hired Jim Campbell of Campbell-Flannery for two tasks:…read more1) Represent us in the sale of assets and develop an agreement for such a sale 2) Represent us in a law suit against our Treasurer who mis-appropriated funds For the asset sale, we expected Jim to use his legal knowledge to keep us out of trouble when selling or otherwise disposing of assets. He wrote up an agreement to sell all of our assets and when the IRS saw it after the sale, they said it was an illegal sale of assets. The agreement Jim wrote was illegal in its basic makeup. He even had a paragraph in the agreement that spelled out the illegal part of the transaction. We hired him to keep us legal and he did just the opposite. He clearly did not know what he was doing. In court he did even worse. He said he would request certain documentation from the defendant and never followed-through with that. He filed documents with the court that had the wrong name for the organization on them, as if he was using some type of boilerplate document and failed to change the names. He did not familiarize himself with the case, even though I personally provided him with a great deal of material. When opposing counsel started to tear him apart, he was not able to think on his feet and came up with a pathetic approach that made no sense at all. I could see the judge and everyone else (including me) perplexed at his line of questioning that only reinforced the case being presented by the defendant's competent attorney. It was embarrassing. He failed to call any of our witnesses to the stand, even though several had been subpoenaed. He was late for trial, missing a pre-trial meeting, and it seems that all he wanted to do was to get it over and move on to something else. The judge had no problem tossing the case out. In my experience, Jim Campbell has limited knowledge of the law; no instincts to help in unfamiliar situations in court, and no real desire to do much of anything besides collect his fees. He clearly is NOT an attorney who I would hire again for ANYTHING.

It would seem he may have done it multiple times too: just check his Loudon County court activity. He will give you one sob story after another. After we tried to evict him, he tried to fight it in court and live in our home rent-free while the process played out. His actions show an antipathy for the law; he enjoys life under its comfortable blanket, using his knowledge as a lawyer to take advantage of those of us who just want to rent our home out to honest, hard-working people. Maybe he assumed he could just take advantage of us and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it. We were lucky that we had the means to hire an attorney to have him evicted. We now have a $24k+ judgement to collect; I don't expect we'll ever see any of that money. If you're comfortable hiring someone who does this kind of thing to other people, then please proceed. Otherwise, I'd recommend hiring a different attorney.

This is not the same person that appeared at court or in any instance for the nearly 1 year it took to file something as simple as a restricted driving request. Not only did he "forget" to ask me for an extra payment to start the proceedings for an entire month(3 months after me paying him in full). He didnt even respond to my phone calls or emails for the same time period. Once he received the additional payment, he didn't even file it for nearly 30 days after the fact. After this, he ignored my emails and phone calls again and took an additional 2 or so months to follow up telling me that court was to blame. We finally got a court date, but when that date came he was late by 30 min. Imagine being the only party in a court room by yourself waiting for your lawyer to arrive and the judge taking a recess because YOU had the time to show up, but your lawyer didn't. Then everything he promised he would ask for, he didn't, at every single court hearing. After another court appearance he came unprepared and blamed me, for not sending him something the ASAP program should have, and he said "I hope the judge got the evaluation since I didn't or we will have to come back". As if he couldn't realize he was missing important information about the case prior to the court date. After that court date, he waited almost 1 week to file more paperwork that the judge requested same day. Following the final court appearance he neglected to mention he didn't know that he had to file more paperwork with the courts to complete the application and he ignored my emails and phone calls asking for updates, until I said I was filing a complaint. The same day he responded stating he didn't file the paperwork correctly, and apologized that he didn't know. After the complaint notification he sent me an email stating he quit my case as he "comlleted the contract" even though our "contract" states "to completion". Why hire someone that doesn't know their own job? If he charges you more than you think it should be, take it as a hint that he doesn't want the task and probably has no idea how to complete it. Save yourself the trouble and stay away from this guy.
