Dr.Tsai is my mother-in-law's eye doctor for almost 6 years. She had another eye doctor before we transferred here as it's too far and she can't understand English. Dr. Tsai is bilingual and the staff are always helpful. If I and my husband were too busy to drop her off, the office even helped with a ride for the visit. In the past six years,Dr. Tsai gave her routine eye exam on time and cataract and glaucoma surgeries. He did great work! Dr. Tsai is very professional and patient to the senior, my mother-in-law is 90 years this year. She once had a blurred eye and felt very upset. We called the office, and Dr. Tsai arranged the appointment for the quick eye exam in an eye center close to our home before we checked with him the next day. My mother-in-law loves Ipad and can't stop screen time less than 6 hours every day. Luckily, we have Dr. Tsao takes care of her very well, recommends the right eye vitamin and keeps tracking her visit every 3 months. Highly recommended! Note: You need to be a little bit earlier for your visit, as least not late, there are always so many patients in the lobby. It is a very busy office, but the staff are very nice. read more

Dr. Tsai is great and so are all of his staff! He was my late mom's eye doctor, so I chose to go to him when I needed cataract surgery. I moved to San Diego a couple of years ago, but I recently drove up to see Dr. Tsai when I had some eye issues. So, I went to Dr. Tsai because he had taken over my retired Dr. practise. OMG. I was there for almost 4 hours. He is facinated with lots of unnecessary equipment and test. First, He told me that he thought I had a stroke in my eye and not a cataract. (I do have a cataract. having surgery soon) Then he told me that I have possible glaucoma and he wanted to do a procedure on it. (I do not have glaucoma). THEN HE TELLS ME i NEED CORNEA TRANSPLANTS IN BOTH EYES!! (My corneas are fine) I went to another Dr. and was told that there have been numerous complaints and that he is just in it for the money. I am so glad I listened to my gut and did not let this man operate on me. My new Dr is professional and very good. Please think twice before letting this man touch your eyes. read more

I got shingles on my face back in February and we feared it had spread to my left eye. From what we read, if it was left untreated, I could lose some vision in my eye. Went to the ER to get it checked out on a Sunday during a holiday weekend. Dr. Tsai was nice enough to come out that day and have my eyes checked. I've been following up with him weekly to see the progress my eye has made. He's been very thorough in my progress and the concern for my eye. My left eye's vision has been clearing up. He is now having me follow up every couple of weeks to make sure everything is progressing nicely and safely. Definitely recommend going to see Dr. Tsai if you have concerns for the health of your eyes. read more

VERY VERY unprofessional. There was a lot of waiting time and it takes more than an hour for an eye exam because you're just waiting most of the time. The doctor isn't the most patient and kept questioning why we chose to not do dilation when we explained that we simply can't wear sunglasses all day due to our own plans of pouring concrete and extending our driveway. And then he emphasized that our own plans were not as important as dilating our eyes and that he doesn't understand. I asked him to understand that we're not never doing dilation, it's just today that we can't, but he continued to "give us shit" excuse me for a lack of better words, for not doing dilation. And then he suggested that my father may have diabetes but he wouldn't be able to tell because we didn't do dilation. I am not questioning his knowledge and professional but we know for a fact that my father does not have diabetes. Not sure if that's something he just let out of his mouth to pressure us into doing dilation but I do not find it appropriate. Definitely not coming back read more

I read the one-star reviews and they are mostly about poor time-management issues. I'd rather a doctor who is a bit late that a punctual Dr who gives you a wrong diagnosis. Last Friday, I was seen by another Ophthalmologist in the area. She gave me the wrong diagnosis and of course prescribed the wrong medicine. My symptoms got worts. When a call to let their office know I was given Dr. Tsai's number because he was on-call over the weekend although his shift had ended, he called me back to find out how he could help me when I was about to go to the ER. I was so happy to know I could be seen by an actual Ophtolmologist while the lady doctor I saw on Friday was enjoying her long weekend in Lake Tahoe. I give 5 stars to Dr. Tsai because he made himself available on a Saturday afternoon and he took the time to do all the paperwork, to do the exam, listened to me and gave me the correct diagnosis. He also gave me some home care tips which worked better than the $45-dollars medicine the lady Dr. made me purchase at her office--which I will use as an antibacterial cleaner/spray for my hands. In fact, this sold-here-only medicine she gave me made my symptoms worse. read more

I have been seeing Dr Tsai for over 5 years for my Glaucoma, and regular eye exams for glasses. I like the Doctor and the staff. Dr Tsai is very professional, but also friendly and seems to listen and answer questions better than some of my previous doctors. His equipment seems to be higher tech than the previous doctors, including Kaiser, which I had previously. I've had tests done in the past that were very uncomfortable, such as the doctor shining bright lights in my eyes, and complaining when I had trouble holding my eye open. Somehow, Dr Tsai seems to be able to do these things in a more comfortable way. For my eyeglass prescription, there's no flipping lenses, and asking which one is better; they have a machine that can magically focus to the correct prescription so quickly, I didn't even know what was happening the first time. I've never bought eyeglasses there, as they are a lot more expensive than Costco, but he didn't try to push me into buying from his office. I talked to the woman in the eyeglasses section, and she was very friendly and helpful, even though I wasn't buying anything from them. When I was having trouble with dry eyes, he gave me a bunch of different samples of eye drops to try out. He also has given me several free "samples" of my prescription eyedrops for glaucoma, saving me a lot of copayment at the time. The only negative, which would not be a problem for most people, was when I didn't have insurance, and later when I had regular medicare - the billing; not errors, but just slowness, so it was hard to remember what was done. This is really my fault for not keeping good records, I think. They never complained when I was slow or forgot to send payment, and they gave me nice discounts when I had no insurance. Now, I have a fixed copay, so it won't be a problem. Anyway, I don't think most people would complain about not being billed quickly. :-) read more

I made an appointment with Dr Tsai for an eye exam just to get my contact prescription updated. I picked his office simply because it's located right next to where I work and is very convenient to go right after work. The doctor himself was nice enough, however, I only saw him for about the last five minutes of my appointment (I think I was there an hour). All he did was do the final check after the dilation. Everything else was done by another worker who did not tell me his title or what his qualification he had to be the one who determined my prescription. I assume he was some sort of tech. He was a nice enough guy but it was weird to me that someone other than the doc was doing the actual exam. I've never had that happen at any other eye doctor. The office itself is very old and cluttered. The office staff is friendly enough but didn't inspire alot of confidence. The first girl who called me back took me to that machine that automatically determines your prescription (I don't know what it's called) and started doing the exam without asking first if I was wearing contacts. Overall, I wasn't impressed but in all honesty, I will probably go back simply for the convenience and the fact that they have a optical shop inside the office that can order my glasses and contacts and also bill my insurance. If I had any issues more serious than near-sightedness, I might decide to go elsewhere. read more

I went to visit Dr. Tsai's office since I recently moved to the area. The staff was exceptional and made me feel like I had been visiting the office for years. They have a great selection of glasses and found exactly what I was looking for. I work at a computer all day and have read multiple reports of blue light glare issues. It always states in the articles I read to see your eye professional if you have strain issue. Dr. T did not even look up when I told him I was having issues and said "never heard of it." OMG, Had been seeing him for years, never again. He always wants to do an unneeded procedure on my eyelids. I always pass peripheral vision tests fine, but he made me go through with them every time to charge my insurance company. Wants to operate on my eyelid every time I see him. Quack. read more

My whole day ruined after I took just a regular eye exam for my contact lenses prescription there. I can hardly see anything afterward and I only found out they did the dilation to me when I called them again. I can't work, can't read emails and can hardly drive. Don't know why every time they have to dilute you just for an eye exam not even tell you, oh, wait, they can get more money! Will not go there any more. read more

If only I could rate this Dr's business with a ZERO - His time management system is a failure. He has zero respect for his patients time and of anyone accompanying patients. Arrive 10 minutes early. Sit in waiting room. Called into a room for tests; return to waiting room. Called into another room for more tests; return to waiting room. Finally, after listening to his staffs woe's and complaints about everything in a kitchen sink AND 1:50 minutes later placed into a 3rd room to finally see the DR himself ~ after another 11 minutes wait. We are now into this appointment 2:11 minutes to have a brief consult with the Dr whom speaks too fast and is made to repeat himself because of his accent and fast speaking so that we can grasp what his overall diagnosis is..... THEN have to wait for the eyeglass employee to return from lunch another 15 minutes to simply leave existing glasses with her for new lenses' ~ we could have met with her before she left for lunch and while waiting to be seen by the Dr. ~ terribly disappointed in his overall lack of professional mannerisms, inconsiderations and disrespect of others time. He obviously overbooks himself. My recommendation to patient I was accompanying was to go to a new Dr and never return to this establishment. You couldn't pay me to go to him. Run! Despite the two hour office visits, dr tsai is a hard working very friendly modest guy. Who is a pro at his craft and he actually listens to his patients. He shows true concern for patients when performing surgery! I trust him implicitly! But I have to admit the wait sucks lol read more

I enthusiastically give Dr. Tsai a rating of Five Stars. I first went to see him during an emergency when I suddenly loss my vision while driving. For 30 seconds my eye sight was gone and all I could see was darkness. Luckily I was able to stop the car safely after I lost my sight, but I was really scared that I would be permanently blind. When my eye sight gradually recovered after about a minute, I was thankful I could see and drive again, but I knew that this was a very serious incident and that I should go see an eye doctor as soon as possible to prevent this from happening again. My wife had heard very good feedback about Dr. Tsai, so she drove me to his office after his receptionist agreed to fit me into his busy schedule that afternoon, on an emergency basis. He was very thorough when he examined me, beginning with numerous medical history questions, as well as questions regarding details which led up to my sudden temporary blindness. Following a very thorough examination of my eye structure, blood pressure, and neurological evaluation, he concluded that my temporary blindness was due a combination of numerous factors, including long exposure in a hot tub following vigorous aerobic exercise for several hours, combined with dehydration and jet lag from my recent trip to Egypt. He gave me detailed set of recommendations in writing which will help me avoid ever experiencing such sudden blindness again. I am so relieved to have received this thorough emergency eye exam and Dr. Tsai's recommendations, and I plan to see him regularly for my future vision care. read more

Horrible experience, very sketchy ...two visits, one just a few hours ago for a simple stye evaluation. Took me waiting 45 min before I was seen. Finally, called back but instead of seeing the doctor I was taken into a room where someone I assume was an employee (though he had no credentials or identification and spoke about three words of English) managed to communicate they wanted to do a test I was unaware of. When I asked why, I was told b/c the doctor wanted it. When I asked to speak to the doctor about this, I was passed to another person (again Someone with no identification but I assume an employee) who, after a lengthy discussion with the other employee in another language right in front of me, told me (in front of all other patients in waiting room) that the additional test was covered by insurance so no problem, and that they could not estimate how long it would be for me to see Dr. I had enough - left ... Ridiculous! read more

Beware! You're on your own with the optical dispensing arm of this business. Upon picking up my new prescription, I complained that something seemed to be wrong with the prescription for my left eye. Sure enough, Elsie, the dispensing representative, said that the prescription was wrong. I came back two weeks later, and picked-up my prescription, and went home, only to suspect that the Transitions application had not been added to the order. Sure enough, Elsie said it was not added. When asked why my glasses were not as ordered, she said they were using a new vendor. The problem with doing business with this establishment is that it is left to the customer to determine whether prescriptions are correct or not. There's no checking or surveillance by the firm of their orders. With this kind of service, I think it's better to go elsewhere. The bottom line: Buyer beware! read more

Dr. Tsai is located in the office that my old eye doctor was in so when I developed an infection in my left eye resulting from some debris I got in it at work, I figured I would call at 7:30 in the morning to see what time they opened up. Imagine my surprise when an actual person working in the office answered the phone... they apparently open at 7:20 a.m. When I explained my issue they offered to have me come down right then, but I needed to take my son to school first so they said to just come in when I could. When I did arrive at about 8:10, I filled out some paperwork and was shown in to an examination room within 60 seconds of turning in my forms. I mentioned a separate eye issue that I had been delaying seeing someone about to the nurse who did a preliminary examination and I can tell you, these people tested the crap out of my eyes... in a good way. They tested me for glaucoma three different ways, checked for retinal tears... you name it, they tested for it and I left feeling very confident that my eyes were fine and that the issue I originally came in for was not too serious and would likely be cleared up with some anitbiotic drops. This office is all business, not in a cold clinical way, but in a highly competent and efficient way. I can say quite honestly that I have never been so impressed with the medical services rendered, or the efficiency with which they were rendered, at any doctor's office before. Dr. Tsai has my unreserved recommendation, and this is coming from someone who by and large is not terribly impressed with most doctors. read more

Dr Tsai has two waiting rooms in his office. After waiting in the first, you get called into the second...then finally into a room. Be aware there are random boxes full of stuff stacked on the counters once you get into the room...not the most comforting. Had a sty on my eye, during my first visit he told me I'd need to come back for a procedure to have it addressed. Made an appointment for 5pm the following Monday (today), and showed up at 4:45 to a very full waiting room full of people (at 4:45?). Checked in...5:20, I asked how much longer, and was told you'll be in there in the next 20 minutes. at 5:45 (still in the first waiting room, haven't made the second yet) told them I'm leaving and don't charge me for this visit. Girl at the front desk tried to explain to me that he has 5 procedures scheduled this evening. Does that matter to me when I'm sitting 45 minutes past my scheduled procedure, and I still haven't made it past the first waiting room? I left, would probably be there past midnight had I decided to stay. read more
