They do have a nice selection and they are convenient if you are local, so that is why I gave them two stars, but their customer relations skills are terrible. I drive past here twice a day and I only use them in a pinch if I'm completely out of something, preferring to give my business to another store all the way in Concord.
Most of the female staff have an overinflated sense of their own importance. They're often arrogant, rude and quite ignorant. They can relate to people in a somewhat normal manner (when they want to), but that is deceiving since they really can be as ignorant as the stereotypical hillbilly. They don't realize that because they may have some limited expertise in one area (horses usually, if that tells you anything), that does not translate onto all aspects of agriculture or animal husbandry. A horse is not a chicken is not a kitten, but that doesn't stop them from just assuming they think that they know everything that anyone outside city limits might ever need to know. They simply don't, but they have such an air of confidence and attitude that many people just swallow whatever advice these ladies care to shovel out. I cringe when I overhear some of the advice that they give people. I get that a lot of people just love to hear old timey country wisdom, farmers' secrets and such, but that stuff rarely is based in fact or on current, sound medical advice. These are the types of people who think that they know better then your vet because they can sell you some cheap off the shelf potion for 1/3 the price, which often isn't even labeled for the purpose or tested for safety.
They are big on telling you that they "think" or they "should" have an item in stock that you are calling about, without checking to make sure, only to shrug and say that they don't have it when you make a trip down there to get it.
The kicker is that the guys in the warehouse are often very nice and easy to deal with. I wish that they would change places.
BTW, they keep eggs for sale right out on the counter without refrigeration, which is against NH state statues. I was there the other day when their vendor was in to refill the inventory. There was a discussion about cleaning the eggs, and he was proud to state that he was not in the egg washing business, and even admitted that since he is at work all day his chickens are cooped up and so the eggs do tend to get dirtier. Gee, he's not in the egg washing business, but he likes to be in the egg selling business. And the ladies at Clark's don't see a thing wring with that, since they restocked. read more
