Staff is either outright rude or just generally unfriendly. Doctor is friendly but rushes the exam. GO anywhere else.

He actually gave me a full exam and wrong prescription - because i had an extra contact lens in my eye! of course, I did not know, but don't you think he should have seen in?! I kept telling him I wasn't seeing right and what my presctiption is for years. I explained on phone what I found, they told me they understood and would call me right back, which occurred 3 times with no return call or appointment. I paid for a wrong prescription and they didn't care the least. Upon the 3rd or 4th call, they said, "I find that very hard to believe". I said, ME TOO! I've held off on writing this for MONTHS. I just had to say it. I saved the bad prescription.

I am beyond angry and hurt by the way I was treated at Visionworks. Before even seeing the doctor,…read moreI was helped by an orange or red with black hair woman named Endi, and I overheard her making disgusting comments about my body and how my clothes fit. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and mean-spirited someone in her position could be. I went to this appointment expecting to be treated with basic respect, and instead I was humiliated. Her words were cruel, unnecessary, and completely out of line. I was so upset, l left the office in tears. Someone like that should not be working in a place where patients are supposed to feel safe and cared for. I will never forget how she made me feel, and I seriously hope Visionworks addresses this behavior. No one deserves to be judged or shamed like that.

Except for needing glasses, I have never had any eye problems. Since cataract surgery is an operation that you have done only once (there are exceptions, but the risk of complications increases dramatically) I did more than a bit of research and saw 6, count em, six, ophthalmologists before deciding on Dr. Almallah to do the surgery. He was the most expensive, but was also the most competent guy in my opinion. I wanted someone who not only did a lot of surgeries, but also had a lot of surgeries with the specific brand of lens that I was getting. I'm a pretty frugal guy, but to save a few hundred bucks for anything but the best didn't seem very wise. I couldn't be happier with my decision. I got a Trulign lens, which is the astigmatism correcting version of Bausch & Lomb's Crystalens. Now this may not be the right one for someone else, but in doing my research I tried to find as much information as I could on what other people's choices and real life experiences were. My vision is better than 20/20 in that eye, and can see well at intermediate distances. I do need +2 drug store "cheaters" for reading. This was exactly what Dr. Almallah told me would be the case. I subsequently saw Dr. D'Alterio, a optometrist in the same practice, who fitted me for a contact lens for my right eye so the vision in both eyes would line up, so to speak. He also did a very good job. Wearing the contact is a little bit of a hassle, but I didn't want to spend the $ to have the surgery in the second eye, and more importantly, it didn't make sense to me to have an operation on an eye that didn't need it.

Upon arriving, the waiting area is clean and orderly; as I mentioned, the receptionist was very professional and friendly; and I was taken on-time. The pleasant experience came to a screeching halt once you pass through the reception area doors into the exam area. I met with the person who does your initial eye exam. She was like a machine. No pleasantries, no personality, no communication except the orders to do this or do that. I was then moved to the room where the doctor meets with you to complete the exam... I was surprised to find a completely disheveled person walking in. Although the office was not crowded and was clearly running on time, his pants seemed to be on fire--what's the rush, this is my time don't make me feel like I'm an inconvenience. From the first words he spoke, he was just nothing but rude and abrupt. His communication skills are a disgrace. He asked why I was there. I said I hadn't had an eye exam in quite some years and wanted to get new lenses. He gave me the eye test to read out the letters. In the middle of my reading off the letters, he picked up the phone to bark some kind of order to a staff member. When he switched over the other eye, he opened the door to the exam room to give some kind of instructions (unrelated to me or my exam) to another staff member. By the last line of reading off the letters on the exam, I was pausing, squinting and guessing at the letters. He turned the machine off, threw himself into a chair and barked at me that I had 20/20 vision. I said: Really? That's funny because I've been wearing glasses for distance for 20 years and when I'm driving at night I can't read any signs without them and that I also find I need them when I go to the movie theatre. I stated that just because I got the letters right doesn't mean they were clear or that it wasn't a strain to read them. His response? Well, some doctor at some point decided you needed glasses. You'll have to bring in your old glasses for me to do anything else for you, come back next week. What ever happened to the part of the exam where they put lenses in front of your eyes and you state whether it was clearer, blurrier, etc. I'd like OPTIMAL vision even if in some abrasive, obnoxious doctor's opinion I have 20/20 vision. I don't know why he would need to my old glasses to figure out the optimal prescription for my needs. What if I had lost or broken them, then what? I can never get glasses again? So I cancelled my follow up appointment and I'm using my secondary insurance (which I luckily have) to get an exam and material somewhere else. If I didn't have secondary insurance, I would have to pay for another exam out of my own pocket. Don't waste your time, money and/or benefits on someone who's an obnoxious jerk and who clearly doesn't know how to interact like a civil, professional, educated human being. And to the Doctor: for Pete's sake, clean yourself up and look presentable and professional. A few communication courses and how to treat people with courtesy and respect would go a long way.
