He actually gave me a full exam and wrong prescription - because i had an extra contact lens in my eye! of course, I did not know, but don't you think he should have seen in?! I kept telling him I wasn't seeing right and what my presctiption is for years. I explained on phone what I found, they told me they understood and would call me right back, which occurred 3 times with no return call or appointment. I paid for a wrong prescription and they didn't care the least. Upon the 3rd or 4th call, they said, "I find that very hard to believe". I said, ME TOO! I've held off on writing this for MONTHS. I am beyond angry and hurt by the way I was treated at Visionworks. Before even seeing the doctor, I was helped by an orange or red with black hair woman named Endi, and I overheard her making disgusting comments about my body and how my clothes fit. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and mean-spirited someone in her position could be. I went to this appointment expecting to be treated with basic respect, and instead I was humiliated. Her words were cruel, unnecessary, and completely out of line. I was so upset, l left the office in tears. Someone like that should not be working in a place where patients are supposed to feel safe and cared for. You can tell she did not want to be there and her responses to my very simple questions were snappy and out of line . Until i walked away to go ask a different employee, this employee was amazing I think her name was Wendy , she was very sweet and helped me get what needed . I am literally at the store right now asking for a reimbursement and they they told me no. The copay ($90.) is sent to the lab. I asked what lab and she said she does not know the lab. Had to get my glasses(2 I bought) 2x because dr Romano really rushed my visit even tho I said I was wasn't seeing right. I am 68yo. The next doctor was wonderful from Tom's river store dr G. Got my vision right but had to wait for new rx. 5 mon later I fell asleep with glasses on. Never in my life has that happened before. Can't be fixed. Only had 5 Months. Never asked me to pay for protection which I would gladly do. Been paying t mobile 30. A month for 35 yrs. I always get insurance. Krystal who is the BEST employee they have has waiting on me bit had to help another distressed customer so I let Dean, who is useless and upset me over tax so I didn't buy a new set of junky frames for 140.00. Absolutely worst place ever. I had 915 appointment. I was there 855am. Plenty of time to check in sign papers do what ever. Earlier in week I get text messages to submit my insurance numbers. This was done and no one said it wasn't verified or checked. I stood there for 20 minutes while receptionist called some random blue cross blue shield number to verify my benefits??? Really? After 20 minutes of her not binging able to verify. I left, no appointment, wasted my time my energy... I made an appointment for a contact lens exam. I have been wearing contacts for 32 years and have been wearing this particular contact type and brand for about 9 years. This was my first time here and before the exam I was told that there is a MANDATORY fitting fee of between $50-$80 that wouldn't be covered by any insurance. I stated that I don't want or require a fitting but was basically told too bad. So, basically, whether you have insurance or not, be prepared for them to make you pay $50-$80 out of pocket, no matter what for a contact lens exam. I actually was going to leave when I walked in. It is amazing how incompetent the front staff is. Tried to order a pair of rx sunglasses after my annual eye exam. When the staff pulled my benefits, they claimed they are out of network with my insurance (which is interesting because Visionworks is owned by vsp). Staff couldn't tell me what my frame allowance is and had no idea what to charge me for my copaco-pays.- i signed onto my vsp app to tell them what I should be paying for each item & service. The employee "helping" me couldn't figure out how to put my cost into the iPad, so as we sat and waited for the manager, instead of adjusting my glasses as I had asked, she decided to sit with a blank stare on her face instead. When the manager finally came over, she entered the cost incorrectly (put the amount paid by insurance as my cost) and walked away. When I pointed this out to the original employee "helping" me, she panicked because she was going to have to figure out how to fix this. Long story short, I left without sunglasses and without my glasses being fixed. I did purchase contacts (after advising them what my coverage is) that i didn't want or need, but also didn't want to lose my benefit. And, of course, they didn't order my trial pair for me as requested by the Dr. Also - prior to my appt, I received a phone call asking me to call back and confirm my appt. When I called back the Brick location, waited on hold for 20 mins and was finally routed to a call center. I confirmed my appt, but they never put my confirmation in the system, and apparently my appt was almost canceled. read more

HIGHLY recommend!!! My exam was this morning and I can not say enough about the staff or doctor at this specific location. Everyone from the receptionist at the front desk to the Dr to the woman (Kathleen) who helped me order contacts and glasses were amazing! The Dr was patient, listened to what I had to say and recommended contacts for me that work PERFECTLY. It turns out I had not been seeing correctly EVER and because this Dr (I'm not sure of his name but an older gentleman) recommended a new type of contact for me (fri-focal), I didn't have to sacrifice my site when looking far away in order to be able to read without readers. I am so disappointed with Visionworks. I have followed them from old location to new one next to FedEx. My wife made her yearly eye appointment on 10/28 on line. You can never get them to answer the phone. I can deal with that as long as I get service once there. My wife gets a call 12/7 that her appointment needs to be changed to different location due to scheduling issues. She says ok it is Covid I will go there. She get to Toms River on 12/10 and they can see her as all her records are at Brick location. They tell her only issue with Brick they just can't keep employees. Now she gets a text to be in Brick location for her scheduled appointment on 12/11. She shows up at Brick and they tell her first appointment is 1/17/21. I sit on Health Funds and will never make a recommendation to use them again. I followed to the new location cause of Dr. Romano. Time to find new place. So angry at the handling of this situation. read more

The eye doctor there is absolutely terrible. Went there for contacts, left with a trial pair, and the one was too weak for my left eye. Went back and the eye doctor laughed at me when I said that l couldn't read street signs, she said you're only going to be able to see 10 feet in front of you.... I've had contacts before so what??????? Anyways she retested me, and when I said okay this ones good, she goes well I don't have that number in stock so you have to pick a different one. So because you don't have my prescription in stock my eyes have to suffer? Needless to say, this place is garbage. read more

During a stretch of super sunny days, I somehow lost the nose pad on my sunglasses and needed a replacement ASAP. My glasses were purchased somewhere else and I couldn't get to my "usual" place, so I stopped into VisionWorks in Brick, NJ, since it's down the street from my office. Monica assisted me and was wonderful in performing the repair. She went over the store's policy for repairs on glasses that weren't purchased in-house, made the nose pad repair, tightened the loose temples, and made sure all the adjustments were comfortable for me. So I make an appointment give insurance info tells me its good and all then wait 6 weeks for the appointment on 11/27 the Friday after Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving I get a call at 4:15pm from Vision works to confirm appointment. She goes on to tell me I have to give her my insurance so she can TRY to get approval by Friday 11am appointment. Then says if she cant get an approval number Ill have to pay out of pocket and get insurance to pay me. Then tells me they may not open Friday at all because they staffing problems. Day : Tuesday Date : February 6th, 2018 Time : Approx. 11:25 AM EST First off, I would like to thank Visionworks "associate" "Ronald C." at the store located at 588 Rt. 70, Suite 9, Brick, NJ 08724 for saving me $39 dollars on your bogus upsell of the "Optomax Exam". I scheduled my appointment and filled out the "Patient Information Form" online last week. I came in to the store around 25 minutes early because the instructions said to arrive 10 minutes prior to my appointment and I wanted a few minutes to look around and see what frames might have been of interest to me. I entered the store and went to the reception counter to check in. The gentleman working the counter ( no name tag ) was nice enough but it seemed as though that was not his regular job / position there. He gave me a clipboard with a "Patient Information Form" to fill out... I told him that I had filled it out online and he went back to the computer to look for it. While he was looking for my previously completed information, he gave me the clipboard back as there was another page, not included in the original paperwork online, and started in on the "Optomax Sales Pitch". I told him he didn't have to go through it again as I had heard it explained to the person that was in front of me in line. The pitch sounded good. It was touted as a "more thorough exam without the need for dilation and the inconveniences associated with it". Fortunately, "Ronald C." was so rude, condescending, and arrogant ( more on that in a bit ) that I walked out before my exam and did some research on "Laser Retina Scans" in numerous accepted and accredited medical publications and journals when I got home. I was looking for a flat surface to review and complete the remaining form, which by the way took under a minute. This is when I had displeasure of being assaulted by your "Ronald C." I was going to briefly sit at one of the two "Fitting Stations" behind the reception desk when, "Ronald C." left the customers that he was possibly tending to at his station ( given my experience at the store, he was probably continuing the upsell agenda as opposed to helping the customer ) and came at me with much urgency saying "Sir... Sir... you can't sit there. The waiting room is over there ( pointing and gesturing" ). I said to him "I just have a few things to fill out..." and he abruptly cut me off, this time more agitated / condescending / authoritative / informatively ( as though I needed an explanation as to the purpose of the area ) saying "Sir, you can't sit there, these are fitting areas only and they are very busy ! The waiting area is OVER THERE ( pointing and madly gesturing again )". I was pretty much in shock ( which is good for him ) and just kind of stood there trying to process what just happened. He turned around in a huff and went back to take advantage of his customer again. I went to an unused desk, completed my form and in my ignorance opted for the "Optomax Rip off". I returned the paperwork to the desk and proceeded to the "Authorized / Mandated Waiting Area". After sitting there for a few minutes, the fog cleared and clarity as to what had just transpired returned to me. That is when I went back to the reception desk, cancelled my appointment and walked out. Oh, and by the way... the whole time I was there NOT ONE PERSON required use of the FITTING AREA. Is Ronald C. your designated Customer Crowd Control Specialist ??? If not, I can't see why what I was doing was ANY OF HIS DAMN BUSINESS !!! If this is the way they've trained and tolerate their front of the house associates to treat customers, there was no way I was going to trust my vision to ANYONE in the place. Absolutely horrible customer service. I have tried calling everyday for the past two weeks with literally noone answering the phone. I finally walked into the store last week and was told they are busy and they would have someone call me. I received a call at 7 at night. They started to place my order for contacts. When I questioned why the total is so much higher than last year they couldn't give me an answer and said "I'll have my manger call you." That was 1 week ago. Now when I try to order contacts on the website, it says my benefits were already used. I would not recommend them to anyone. Great experience getting eye examination done here for contact lenses and eyeglasses. Staff and doctor were professional and friendly. Premises are clean with modern testing equipment. In addition to contact lens fitting and ordering I also needed my written prescription with PD for eyeglasses since I order those from online sources. Some places give you a hard time when you tell them that but I did not get that here. Recommended. read more

Ordered glasses in November. It's January and having problems trying to get my glasses right. First time the frames were bent. Couldn't see right. Second time they put the wrong prescription in the new frames. Almost threw up putting them on. This time, last time it was a combination of the first 2. Now mind you, I went back to my eye doctor to check the prescription twice. This time they told me to come in and see if their eye doctor could find out why my script wasn't right. I went back at the scheduled time. They said i needed an appointed to get an eye exam. It was the next day. The general manager who made the appointment said i had no appointment. She downright lied to me. She also couldn't understand why i was upset. Totally clueless and unable to run a store. She didn't understand why I wanted to return the glasses and get a refund.
