I was fortunate enough to be able to book a same day appointment with Chelsea for an overdue haircut. This is a great salon and each stylist works in a separate room in an old brownstone. Chelsea was wonderful and too the time to ask about my expectations and goals with my hair. I never felt as though I was being sold products, but took her recommendation for a deep conditioning treatment. My treatment and haircut are exactly what I needed, it looks great! I had a very disappointing experience at this salon. When I arrived, one of the first things Nagi asked was how long ago I had gotten a haircut. I told him it had been six months, and he immediately said I would need to cut significantly more than my standard trim. I made it very clear that I only wanted to trim what was necessary, as I loved my long, natural, curly hair that reached my waist. Unfortunately, by the time I realized how much he was cutting, I had lost eight inches of length. I understand that curly hair has shrinkage, but for my hair to end up this short, he must have cut at least 3-4 inches more than what was necessary. To make matters worse, the top layer of my hair now falls above my jawline--significantly shorter than the rest--leaving me with an uneven, choppy look. After cutting my hair, he asked if I wanted it styled straight or curly. Since it was raining outside, I opted for curly. His idea of styling curly hair was to rake his fingers through it while it was half-dry, then use a diffuser for five minutes while continuously running his fingers through it and fluffing the roots--causing extreme frizz. His "solution" to the frizz was simply adding more product, yet I still left the salon with my hair 50% wet. Throughout the appointment, I mentioned that I already use high-quality Aveda and Curlsmith products, but he repeatedly asked if I needed to buy more. It felt like a hard sell rather than genuine advice, as he brought it up multiple times even after I declined. I was in and out of the salon in just 30 minutes, and for the price I paid, I expected far better service--especially from someone who claims to be a "curl specialist." I left feeling incredibly disappointed and regretful. If you have curly hair and value your length, I would not recommend this salon. read more

Overall, not the best experience, so I probably won't be back; however, I appreciate the effort. First, I'll just say that I didn't know this was an aveda salon, which isn't the worst thing, but definitely would've made me think twice. Some people have great experiences with aveda; I am just not one of them. It might be good to make that more prominent on the website or the salon booking app. Anyway, I booked a partial foil with Jess a few days before a wedding because another preferred salon couldn't get me in. I came in, and Jess was a complete sweetheart and we had very nice conversation. She first did a dry cut to fix an issue from a previous uneven cut at another salon, which was fine, and then she started to do my foils. However, I noticed that my foils took barely any time at all for her to put in, and I thought this was odd because I have really long, thick hair, so usually they take a good hour or hour and a half, even for partial. This took maybe like 30-35 minutes, and it almost seemed as if they were done diagonally on my head as there weren't that many. I was willing to see where the evening took us. I sat for a while, and then it was time to tone, but Jess said she doesn't tone, because if you foil right, you don't need to tone. I was a little surprised because I like an icy blonde and usually always get toned, but again, willing to give it a chance. So we did the wash out, condition, etc., and she blew out my hair. I was really happy when I left because things looked good! I even bought a recommended conditioning mask, even though I don't normally buy Aveda product like that. It felt like a win! I even scheduled another full foil for later in the fall, as my wedding is coming up. But the next morning, when I brushed my hair, things took a turn, as I noticed really huge chunks/pieces of hair that weren't colored along my partline. Again, I think she must've done the foils diagonally because there wasn't a way I could part it that didn't show the issue, unless I did it diagonally. I was honestly really upset because I spent over $400 (with the product and with tip) and there was no way I could come back in before the wedding I was going to because I had to leave that day. So, I messaged the salon showing the picture, and asking to cancel my upcoming appointment. Jess responded apologizing and asking me if I had some time to come back in to fix, which I definitely appreciate, but again, I was just really upset and didn't feel good about going back. That said, some salons don't offer a correction, so I appreciated it, and again, Jess seems really nice and maybe just had an off night, but this was not for me. read more

Took my daughter here for a haircut. the stylist was rough with her hair and did a very unsatisfactory job and made things worse when we asked for an adjustment. He didn't listen to what we wanted and was aggressive in the way he handled her hair. My daughter was in tears so I called them to request a different stylist to touch up her bangs which were chopped off without any blending. They refused to accommodate her on the same day which is disappointing given the situation. Will never go back. Also want to add that the stylist kept interrupting the haircut to do something on his phone. read more

She is very easy to book with, personable and has been great to EVERYONE who I have referred to her. I didn't give a 5 star rating due to a manager who has a haughty attitude and questioned ME - the client- about the photo I showed MY stylist- I don't understand why she was involved in my color appointment with my stylist, but okay. She was rude in front of me to my stylist as well, speaking to her in a very condescending, know it all tone. Brandi has colored my hair once and cut it twice and I will absolutely keep coming back. She is so amazing at what she does but also is informative and walks me through the process if I ask. Just moved back to the area after a couple years away and tried the salon due to helpful positive reviews. Making an appointment was easy, I called and they were booked, but I scheduled a haircut 4 days in advance. The salon is clean and comfortable. They will be moving soon to a bigger nearby space--check the website. I waited a few weeks to write this to check if I'm still happy. Ms. Solo did a great job! Came here after my hair stylist, Alicia, left the dump she was working at Dulles Mall. I was skeptical that the change in locale would mean exorbitant prices but it's in line with other salons in this area. About the salon, night and day to where she was - laid back, very chic and open salon, everyone is super sweet and they even have a mascot "Louie" golden lab who is the owners pet and greets you at the door. At first I thought...."this is weird..." but once you meet Louie, you understand truly that they want you to feel at home. Now Alicia - she is my queen of color. I have darker brown hair and she's taken me from rich ruby red, to sandy dark blonde, and now to a rich espresso shade on top with the under layers a lighter caramel brown. For this fall weather, the shade add enough dimension without being annoying, usual highlighted work on top. I like that she's at a place that knows the best technique in color and I go mainly because of the Aveda Color product itself. Salon - like I said, night and day. Open, airy, chairs completely recline and massage every inch of you. They even have a private room/entrance in the back - I understand for those that would want more privacy for religious or personal reasons. I haven't used the spa yet, only the hair services with Alicia. I've glanced over at Eric and I can just tell from some of the perfect pixie cuts he's delivered that he is a guru with the scissors as well. Unlike most salons with large areas for several stylists, this is a townhouse with smaller rooms. They only allow one client with one stylist in each room at a time. They provide masks and gloves when you arrive. Everyone wears masks. I've been getting my hair cut for about 5 months now, and I feel very safe and comfortable. My stylist Jess Zamora is fantastic. She's friendly, knowledgeable, and does an excellent job. The salon is in Old Town on Washington street - towards the southern end. Parking is easy on the streets around it. A friend and regular client of Jean Claude recommended the salon. I booked a root-touch up and a few hightlights around the face before an event. He was not working that day. The other manager was also not in house. The staff were rude and agressively belligerent - when the managers were away. When I arrived, I was told I could not have the foils I wanted - the stylist didn't approve. I have had this done every three weeks for 20 years. Instead I was TOLD I would have painted European color or I go elsewhere. It took forever, cost double other salons. The painted highlights were not well done and practically invisible. I stopped by the Aveda salon at Tyson's the next day and they were aghast at the work - recommneding another salon to "fix" my hair. 3/6 employees were oblivious to social norms and basic ettiquette. Example: Expect to see eye rolls, shouting, and middle-school type Mean Girl machinations. I had to hire another stylist to highlight my hair the following week. This is a salon with an upscale French reputation, but only the owner and manager fit that profile. The staff are declasse'. read more

Beautiful salon. They didn't listen to a word I said. I went in for a consultation and he said we wouldn't cut above the base of my neck. Then at the appointment he started the cut at my chin. I told them I like a trendier, more modern, sexy look and I was give a wedge haircut-the exact same cut that earned me the nickname "mushroom" in sixth grade. It was a mushroom haircut all over again. Then the style was a coiffe. It was a style you'd more likely see on older women or very conservative women. For color I said "I don't want to go darker and I don't like natural red hair color on myself." And the colorist made my hair darker and also a natural red color. So basically they did exactly what they wanted to do, did not listen to my requests and in fact did the opposite of what I asked and then charged me $500 for it. I've waited to write this review to try and let it grow on me. I'm working with a different salon to see if I can get the color back to what I like and feel good wearing. I have to put my hair up using about 20+ clips and bobby pins. They asked if I wear my hair up most days and I said "yes" and then they cut it too short to wear up without a ton of time. I've been wearing beanies over my hair much of the time now that, thankfully, it's cold enough. I am pretty heartbroken and am not of the $500 hair service tax bracket so this was a massively disappointing experience that I'm still dealing with months later. I've been bouncing around from one salon and/or barber to another after moving to Old Town a few years ago. It seems that whoever gave me a good haircut didn't do such a good job with my beard or the opposite. My wife finally convinced me to up my game and try her stylist Kelly at Claude Marcel's salon. This review is for skin care not hair cut or style. All my cuts and dyes are fabulous. Flo is an excellent colorist and Cierra also does excellent cuts and styles. I got about 3 or 4 facials from Francoise. I had minor acne at the time and she did extractions on me. It was so incredible painful she popped so many pimples that weren't even surfaced. She didn't use gloves either! All the facials were extremely painful and uncomfortable. The condition of my skin kept getting worse and worse after each time i saw her. I left with sollwen face and red/brown marks all over my face left me with marks and scapes. She told me its a process and i trusted her word but I should have known better. I talked to other skincare providers and she is doing all wrong things atleast when it comes to proper extractions. Long story short my face is worse than ever. It's been physically and emotionally devastating. I'm still struggling with what she did to me. I now have painful cystic acne that is scarring my face all over my left side. Ive been to 2 derms and now i have to go on antibiotics for months to clear up the infection she left me. This lady needs to get her license taken away, if she even has one. Please avoid her at all cost!! She ruined my skin and left me with infection , scars, and painful cysts. read more

The shop is in a great location. Parking was easy. The Aveda shop is adequately stocked and the salon has a nice vibe. The stylists are taking steps to ensure customers safety by; offering a mask and gloves at a low price, wearing a mask at all times, one customer and stylist per room, and distancing with the customer as much as feasibly possible.
