I've never seen that done before at a funeral. they truly care about the deceased and the family! Chris is likely to have attended to thousands of funerals, but there was no sense that this was 'same-old, same-old' with him. He was so in tune with where the family was emotionally, and was able to adjust accordingly. He was such a calming, helpful presence throughout. He has the wisdom of knowing that people's faculties are compromised at a time like this and guided us gently through each part of the process at just the right time, never invasive, checking in on what might be needed and offering just the right amount of guidance and preparation. Likewise, every inch of the funeral home and their chapels have been designed to make you feel the warmth, serenity and dignity you would wish for at such a time: The decor is elegant but homey; the background music is peaceful and settling; the fish pond and fountain in the reception area adds a natural, calming element, and of course, there's Jake. Jake (Chris's shadow) is a young, highly trained labradoodle who is the resident support dog, gently walking around, offering himself to anyone he senses may need him. He is a special soul and he loves his work. I don't think the process could have gone more smoothly. The chapel was beautifully set up and my mother-in-law looked so naturally elegant and peaceful at her wake in the chapel. They did an incredible job. They created a beautiful digital slideshow from all our photos and set up our photo boards and flowers magnificently. After the service, they packed up everything from the chapel and stored it for us carefully until we could collect it at our convenience. Nothing seemed too much for them as long as they could help make this process as easy and meaningful as possible for us. One final aspect worth mentioning: The funeral home allowed us to arrange a lot upfront, before my mother-in-law passed, which similar business services do not always allow. Once someone has passed, emotions are so high that it's really hard to concentrate on small details, which is required to plan accordingly. Being able to plan this all upfront was incredibly helpful.

Where do I start? I live out of state. My sister passed…read moreaway and because it was an emotional time, I used the first funeral service that I called. My sister and I grew up in Lindenhurst, and we passed this business every day on the way home from both Lindenhurs Jr and later, Lindenhurst High School. I had her cremated, and although I flew up there, I requested that her remains be sent to me via priority USPS so I didn't carry them with me through the airports. The manager there, John, assured me that it was law that a signature be required to receive the cremated remains. I received an email from Eileen R., stating that the remains were shipped. She also left a voicemail stating that "And just know that it came out to be a total of $95, so you should be expecting that bill in the mail when you receive it." Now, I had already paid the extra $105 in my total bill of over $3k, as John stated, for the signature-required priority mail service. The fact that they overcharged me didn't bother me, as long as the service was done. Well, two days later, I saw that my mailman dropped my beloved sister's remains outside my door, on the ground, like some common Amazon package. This caused an extreme amount of distress for me, and after crying for a long time, I called John and told him what happened. He again told me that it was law that the remains required a signature and blamed the mailman. Before calling my local post office, I searched online. It is true that USPS requires the sender to send cremated remains with a signature required. I called the main number for USPS and explained what happened. The agent kindly let me record the conversation. She searched and found that the sender, Eileen R., had waived the required signature. WHY? Why would she do that knowing that it would be emotionally destructive to a grieving person to see their beloved one's remains lying on the ground? Whether it was done maliciously or carelessly, I am still filing a lawsuit against this business as well as filing a complaint with the NY Dept of Health (who is in charge of funeral homes). In my life, I have never felt such anger towards a compan as I've felt towards this one. I paid extra for the service. There was no reason for them to have waived the signature requirement. I tried to speak to the owner, but John said he wasn't there. I hope the owner knows what's going on there. If he doesn't, he will soon find out.
