This was my second time seeing Dr. Holland. I arrived at 10:45 for an 11:00 appt. At 12:05 I went to the desk (another women waiting joined me) and we both inquired about the wait time. I explained that I had another appt and would prefer to reschedule if they were really behind. I got some vague and useless answer. Ten minutes later, I was called back. After sitting in the drab, chilly room for thirty minutes with the paper gown, I realized I was never going to make my next appointment. As I was dressing, the door opened (no knock) and a women in scrubs just stared at me. I wasn't sure if it was the doctor or not. I explained that I couldn't wait any longer and she just turned around and walked out. Said nothing whatsoever. I didn't even realized she was the doctor until the nurse confirmed it on my way out. The first time I saw her I found her to be friendly and a competent doctor. This was beyond disappointing. I understand emergencies happen, but they could be honest about it and allow you to reschedule. A final note - the office is not pleasant in general. No water, no wifi, and they only accept cash. read more

Dr. Holland is the best doctor there is. I have been her patient since 2011. If you need a doctor that is confident in her approach and knows what you need to be at your best, Dr. Holland it is!!! I loved her in our first meeting and feel lucky to have her deliver my both boys. She is absolutely fabulous and exceptional. She is very intelligent, funny and very interested in your well being. She always has a plan of care and I love that she is very calm and explains the pros and cons of your condition and clearly explains what she would do next etc. What else can I ask from my doctor? I always felt reassured when I left the office. Her staff, I have dealt mostly with Maria, is very friendly and amazingly helpful. My deliveries were through C sections and she was wonderful through the process. I am lucky she is my doctor! Dr. Holland goes out of her way to help you connect with other doctors if you need it. I cannot thank her enough for all the things she has done for me. She connected me with the best pediatrician and it was a fantastic piece of mind to have that pediatrician for my son. I moved out of the City in 2013 and refuse to go to another doctor. I have to travel 2 hours to get to the office and would not have it otherwise. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and she again helped me through the process of finding the best doctor and she made sure that I had an appointment with the doctor before I left her office. She has followed up about all the details of my progress and helped me navigate and select the best strategy for me. Again I am so thankful to her for everything she has done for me. I will be indebted to her forever. I don't get the reviews that are critical of her and I urge you to go and see her and have your own experience. You will love Dr. Holland. I worked at the time when I was pregnant in an office and a few women were pregnant at the same time. We all saw Dr. Holland and we all loved her unequivocally. We had different personalities and backgrounds and we all used to chit chat about how much we loved her and how thankful we were to the colleague that introduced us to Dr. Holland. read more

Waited for over an hour and a half for an early morning appointment. They took a woman who messed up her appointment day and wasn't even supposed to be there before me, as well as another woman with an appointment time after me who mentioned she had to get to work. We all have to get to work, especially someone who started several months ago at a new job like myself. This is my second annual checkup with dr Holland and I will not be returning to test out if 3rd times a charm...not worth it. She spend 90 seconds total with me and tried to leave before I could even discuss a serious issue I was having. read more

I had Dr Holland for a few hours when I was in labor at St Lukes. She was the doctor on call that night and arrived around 2am.. She walked into the room chewing gum, looking thoroughly miserable at being woken up and wanted to get my baby out asap. At that stage I was laboring well with contractions just a few minutes apart. She chose to give me an internal exam while I started to have a contraction (with no medication - at my request). I begged and begged her to stop. She didn't. It was so painful -I felt totally violated by this woman. After that experience, my labor ceased. This was around 2.30am Her shift ended at 8am. My labor resumed shortly after when the new doctor came on. My baby was born at 10am read more

I'm so puzzled by all the GOOD reviews on here! Maybe it's bc my personality didn't jive with Dr.Holland, but I'm a patient, not there to be friends....this review is for my pre-natal care if my first child: 1) the wait time is HORRIBLE! Be prepared to wait 1+ hr minimum. That's the shortest I've waited. Longest is 4 hours. Average wait is around 2 hours. So if you don't mind missing work for an afternoon appointment, or being late to any appts scheduled after, then yes, as the other reviews says, office is efficient and wait time not an issue. I don't mind waiting, but it's so disrespectful of my time when its 1.5 hours later and I'm still in the waiting room. That means I'm not making it back to my afternoon meetings, that means I'll be late to the ultrasound I have scheduled 3 hours later. As my pregnancy progressed and I have other minor complications, I have decided to take 1/2 days from work when I have my scheduled appointments, so I'm not rushing or getting stressed trying to make it back to my office. That quickly adds up to a lot of days when you're seeing the dr 2x/once a week in the 3rd trimester. I was a sucker, bc dr holland came with great reviews and a personal recommendation from a close relative who dr holland delivered her baby during an emergency. (But didn't have her as obgyn) So, as a first time mom, even when wait times got frustratingly bad I stayed bc well, she must be good - see my next point. 2) As a first time mom, there are many things I don't know or don't know to ask. The dr is in and out in less than 5 mins. which makes the 2+ hr wait a bigger insult. In the beginning, Dr holland generally asked me how I feel but toward the end, just a quick Doppler check and I'm on my merry way. She consistently got little things wrong or overlooked, like what blood tests I've gotten, the name of my genetic testing, etc. Minor enough to overlook, but adds up toward the end of pregnancy when switching dr is harder! I was never told what to expect, or things to look out for, that's ok- there's the Internet for that. No questions abt birthing plans, pelvic check. Or get the flu shot. She told me she'll introduce me to other dr in the office as she might not be the one to deliver, never happened. The final straw was when dr checked and said I was 1cm dilated/75% effaced and was "induce-able" i get to the hospital on my induction day, turns out I'm 0cm dilated and 50% effaced. 36 long and painful hours of labor later, I finally meet baby. I stuck with Dr Holland thru this bc I wanted her experience to deliver my baby. Instead I only saw her a handful of times at the hospital, even tho I was induced. I do have to say, I really liked the attending. She was so upbeat and really made the delivery process smoother. And this might be exhaustion and epi talking, but I think dr holland wanted a more forceful way of getting baby out and my attending suggested waiting a bit longer. If that is truly the case, I esp grateful to the attending. Knowing what I know now, I would not have stuck with dr holland. I felt clueless pretty much throughout my whole pregnancy, turning often to dr.google (which is bad!) so I know questions to ask, and walking out pretty clueless as well (like why I got an episiotomy, how bad was the tear and how many stitches). Combined with raging hormones, I was pretty angry about it all. My review is super long and is my rant. I wished I didn't have to go to her for my post partum checkup, but no dr will see me as the follow up as part of the insurance billing. read more

I have tried 7 different docs since moving here 9 years ago, and I am so glad I found Dr. Holland at last. She is a good doctor and you can trust her to take care of you, which is unfortunately not the case with all providers in this city. She is busy - I am usually seen a little late, and she is very quick in the room. I like that about her, because I have had doctors who take their sweet time and bill you for every little thing and try to push procedures that are unnecessary. But know that because if you want to talk about something extraneous you have to ask. That being said, she will take care of you. If you have a question she has the answers. She will follow up. She is experienced and she knows what she is doing. I was referred to her by a number of friends who love her. Just go see her and you won't regret it. read more

I have seen doctor Holland once. I have waited over 1 hour for an early morning appointment that was the first in my pregnancy and was probably the quickest appointment I've ever had - all tests were outsourced including the ultrasound so a pap was left to do. She spoke super fast about what to eat and not eat - i am sure she does it often - leaflets at the end. I left with a bag full of publicity. It did not feel right. I went back home and found myself signed up for delivery at the hospital and signed up for 11 months of expensive lab vitamins... I got a call from the lab. I did not like that either. Finally the whole set of bills for lab+doc arrived. The most expense pap test I have had... I checked general reviews online at that point and there are some scary ones... of course you never know people's motivations but all things considered, I changed doctor. read more

The first time I met with Dr. Holland she was great! She spent time asking questions and learning about me. After that, however, she's always been more quiet and to the point. On the good side, she has amazing contacts if you need to see a specialist or do a test. The reason why I give her practice 2 stars is because of the wait time. It's just unacceptable to have people typically wait for over one hour!!! We patients also have jobs and a life, so it's very disrespectful. read more

If you are pregnant and looking for someone with genuine interest in you and your baby DO NOT go to this dr. In addition to the very long wait times, the staff and she herself treat patients like numbers to get through. As for the actual experience of giving birth under her care--that was even worse. I knew there would be a probability she wouldn't be the one to deliver, which is totally understandable. However, she said Monday, when I was scheduled for induction, she would be there because she was free that day. Well, from the time of my last check up appointment when she said that, up until the 2 week post birth appointment--I never once heard from or saw her--ever. Not while in the hospital or after. When I did go for the 2 week appointment after giving birth, she only asked me very clinically how the baby was health wise. She didn't ask how things went at the hospital, what the baby's name was, if I had any pictures--absolutely nothing. It was as if they didn't know me at all. I can't explain how taken aback I was by this treatment. The front desk also didn't say congratulations, how are you guys, even though I saw her every single week towards the end of my pregnancy. I went back to the final post birth appointment so I could ask for the my records and leave this practice. She asked me why I was leaving and when I told her very calmly that I was disappointed in the treatment I received she told me it was because I wasn't expressive so she didn't know how to talk to me--what?? She also made up a phony excuse about having a dental appointment the day of the induction. (Look online at other complaints--she has used that excuse before!) Besides being untrue, none of what she said explains all the other days I never heard from her or the fact that she didn't show any care when I did see her afterward. Her reaction to my answering HER question about why I was leaving was so unprofessional I couldn't believe it. She was very combative rather than just saying I'm sorry and letting it go. I did not go in there angry or wanting to cause problems yet she tried to imply that I was just unhappy and taking it out on her and that she needed to make sure my baby was ok. I couldn't believe it--the experience is still so hard to process. Her defensiveness to my matter of factly stating my experience proves she knew she was wrong and was grasping at straws to come up with excuses. I am not the first to be unhappy with how she deals with the birth process. There are a lot of great doctors in NYC don't waste your time with this one--especially if you're pregnant. read more

Someone got their feelings hurt and is making up lies about the wait times. Dr. Holland has been my gynecologist since 2010. She is smart as a whip, drily funny, empathetic and extremely knowledgeable in her field. Because she takes the time to listen to her patients' concerns and respond to them thoughtfully, she often gets behind schedule. One time I had to wait about an hour, and I wasn't happy -- but in nearly a decade, this was the exception, not the rule. I've waited longer for doctors I didn't trust nearly as much -- and been seen on time by doctors who didn't care about anything except getting to the next patient. I had my first visit with Dr. Holland last week. She came highly recommended and I can understand why. She was wonderful! I had a problem and was seen as an emergency visit. She gave me a very thorough exam and put me at ease immediately. She was patient and took her time answering all of my questions. After one visit it's easy to see that she really cares about her patients. Her staff is wonderful also. Ana, at the front desk was a pleasure to talk to on the phone and in person. She made my appointment happen. Her nurse, Angela was super friendly with a great sense of humor (I needed that as I was very nervous) and Maria the young lady who goes over your prescriptions at the end made sure I understood everything before I walked out the door. She was also a pleasure to talk to. I was seen on time although if I weren't it would have been understandable because the doctor is also an obstetrician. Believe me, Dr. Holland is worth the wait! I am so happy that I have found a gynecologist that I can feel so comfortable with and trust. By the way, It's a week later and I feel 100% better. read more

She is probably one of the most comforting doctors a patient can have. She makes herself available to answer any questions and to get to know the patient. Dr Holland saved my life when she agreed to treat me free of charge due to a mixup with my Insurance (my error) Upon arriving for my annual gyno exam, I discovered that Dr Holland no longer took my Insurance, a change from the past Nov. Upon hearing the story, Dr Holland treated me on the spot and ordered my annual mammogram which I had a month later. Sadly, I was diagnosed with breast cancer was discovered but, thanks to Dr Holland, it was detected very early and I am completely cured. Had she not been so generous, it might have taken me another 6 months to find, schedule the first appt and have a mammogram ordered with a new Doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Holland. I have been a patient of hers for over 15 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. She has gone above and beyond on many occasions to accommodate my specific needs. When I was concerned about having a mammogram, she even made time to meet me at my appointment. Although I have had to wait at times, I know that this is because she is giving each patient the time needed to address their medical concerns and anxieties. She is very professional, compassionate and knowledgable and I would not hesitate to recommend her to my friends and family. Looking at all the reviews of Dr Holland, it seems that patients either love or loathe her. Personally I love her and so have my two friends who I recommended see her. Yes the wait times can be a total pain sometimes, but since 2004, she has been my OBGYN through 3 babies (all had to be induced) and two miscarriages. She absolutely took my concerns, and health issues very seriously. I never wanted an Amnio (even though I'm an older mom) and she completely understood, she did not laugh when I produced a typed 2 page "birth plan" for my first child (how naive was I), and she was at the hospital to deliver all 3 kids. I love her office staff too and they are kind to me. She takes no BS and is a very seasoned professional. Last year, when I was not feeling mentally great, she listened to me and recommended a great therapist for me to talk to. Best of luck ladies. read more

In the past I previously went to Dr. Holland mainly based on her prior affiliation with highly-rated Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital. But at some point it appears she switched to a much lesser-rated hospital. In retrospect, it is difficult to know if that portended something meaningful that I should have noted. What I do know now is that she can be less than meticulous regarding patient care. The "fibroid" that she claimed I had ultimately turned out to be ovarian cancer. After a considerable time lapse, I needed to request previous reports from the lab and discovered the radiologist's report stating that he had detected a mass on my sonogram which was likely a fibroid. But unknown to me at that time, the same radiologist had recommended in addition that the doctor follow up with either a comparison with prior tests (there were none) or, absent prior tests, a CT scan to further verify his observation. It was a shock to me then to realize that Dr. Holland for whatever reason had disregarded his recommendation. For my yearly routine gynecological checkups, I expected long waits and knew that her personality could border on rude. But I overlooked all that because at that time I thought that she was at minimum a competent and knowledgeable gynecologist. Subsequently I was extremely fortunate to be treated by an extraordinarily gifted and caring gynecological oncology surgeon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering to whom I am obviously indebted for very likely saving my life. read more

I wish I had 10 stars to give Dr. Holland, the most responsive doctor I have ever had. Dr. Holland delivered my baby girl a couple of months ago and provided my prenatal care in the months beforehand. She was always fun (yes, fun!) to see and answered all of my questions. She also always returned my calls when I had concerns during off hours and that's what really stands out to me. Her staff is also excellent, especially when it came to getting my maternity leave and disability forms in. Everyone always went above and beyond. Dr. Holland is a nice and intelligent doctor. Unfortunately, my experience with this office has been awful! Her staff and office management are completely disorganized, incompetent, and unhelpful. They NEVER answer the phone, and are not very helpful when they finally do answer the phone. They submitted my insurance claim to the wrong insurance company, and when I tried to rectify the situation, they were impossible to get in touch with, and when I finally got the office manager on the phone, she took forever to resolve the issue. Also when you have an appointment, expect to wait over an hour to see the doctor. I had to wait in the waiting room and the exam room for a total of 2 HOURS. It was completely unacceptable, and the doctor and staff were entirely unapologetic. I strongly recommend using another doctor. read more

She takes the time to listen and help you with your concerns. Her office is clean and the staff are efficient. I cannot recommend Dr. Holland highly enough. She delivered my happy, healthy son October 2013 - my first child. As a first time mom and type A personality, I wanted a doctor who would not make me more neurotic and who I could trust. This is not Dr. Hollands first rodeo - she kept me calm, referenced her years of experience to give me balanced counsel, and was always available same day if I called with a concern. I never felt rushed in her office and came to like her very much personally. She will get you through Roosevelt and advocate for you as a patient. I felt as though I always understood the pros and cons in decision-making (whether to induce, eg) and trusted her guidance - it did not feel protective of her but instead protective of my interests, health and preferences. Terrible experience! She would constantly make me wait 2-3 hours to see her and would spend a few minutes with me.This time I booked a month in advance and specifically told them I would not be able to wait a long time that day.I arrived on time for my appointment at 9:15 and by 9:35 she still had 6 patients to see before me! I complained to the office manager and said I would go somewhere else and asked for my medical records.The doctor ran into me when I was complaining, never apologized for the hours of my time that I waited at her office multiple times, and said I should leave and find someone else if waiting was a problem for me.I told her she still had 6 people to see before me and that I had already been there 20 min (so I would be waiting at least another 1:30) and she said that 20 min was nothing, 1 hour was nothing, as if my time was not important, and that I was upsetting her. Just her time is important. She said that every single doctor in the city is like that. I go to doctors that are in the best of NY list and they never behave this way. She books multiple people at the same time slot and make you wait. I had been going there for years, always had to wait for hours, and the only day that I complained about it she basically sent me away when she was in the wrong. When I looked at the medical records they gave me, it is terrible to see that she would not even pay attention to what I would say when I would go there, because there was not more than 10 lines written for years that I had been there multiple times. When I inquired about past medical records, they said they had to request from storage, let's see if they will send them to me. She does not care and is very disrespectful, stay away! read more

I first met Dr.Holland 5 years ago when I found out I was pregnant. I asked for recommendations from friends and visited several OBGYN doctors before choosing Dr. Holland. I was so happy I chose her! She has the experience of over 30 years and there was nothing I could ask her that she didn't have an confident answer for me. Also, her calmness and warmness while having my complications during the delivery were so soothing to me. She was incredibly efficient during an emergency C- delivery! After then, she has been my doctor for regular check ups and again, she is professional, reliable and warm. I am now pregnant with my second child, and even though I live pretty far from her office, there was no question I would go with another doctor. I feel safe in her hands! She is in high demand, and has many patients, and sure sometimes you have to wait, but it's worth it! I always bring something to read in case. read more

My wife and I decided to deliver our baby with Dr. Holland after searching all over for a doctor that was actually open to answering our questions rather than just rushing us in and out. She is incredibly warm and knowledgeable, we felt very comfortable with her from the beginning. Dr Holland is my ob/gym. I have two kids, five and seven. I switched to her a few months into my first pregnancy after a bad experience with a dr at Mt Sinai. Put simply, she is intelligent, well-informed and personable. Yes, I have waited a very long time on a few occasions for an appt with her but once I'm in, she takes her time with me (which I suspect she does with others).
