After visiting nearby Door Bluff Headlands County Park, we dropped in here on a whim as the signage…read morefor this studio was located right on the same Garrett Bay Road that leads out of the park.  And we are very glad we did, as it was a unique business and cultural Door County experience indeed.  The gravel and dirt road leading to their secluded studio is like being right back in the park, and after a little bit of roadway, their studio appears out of the woods.  Ha, perty different and interesting to say the least!   Off to the side of the studio was Diane McNeil who greeted and welcomed us.  Hidden back in his workshop was John Dietrich, the master potter at work.  We browsed around the gallery and there was a lot of colorful and artistic pottery to look at, but nothing really clicked for us buying-wise on this trip anyway.  But the best part was that after browsing, we got to chatting with this delightful and engaging and long time husband and wife team.  Their gallery is actually a converted historic 1934 vintage apple barn.   On the premises behind their gallery is their home too.  You can tell this business is their love and livelihood.  We learned yet again it's a small world.  Diane actually hails originally from Glen Ellyn, IL and still remembers now bustling Naperville as open pasture land!  John was raised in Appleton WI and trained from his college days to be a master potter, but both of his parents were actually renowned painters from Oak Park, IL!  There are other potteries in town we noticed later, and I'm sure each has their own story, but their particular story here was one that gave us a sense of connection.  Drop by to meet this welcoming couple, go off the beaten path, and see if any of their work might be what you're looking for!

During the reception we were able to wander through the art which was a nice experience. And I don't know how much the Gallery had to do with the food service and all that, but it everything about this wedding was absolutely seamless and absolutely on time. The food was amazing. My only quibble is that the seating was super tight for dinner. It felt like we were right on top of one another, but again, that's completely minor. The grounds are fantastic native grasses and flowers. I just can't get over how wonderful the entire experience was as a wedding guest.

The farm was originally built by our daughter's great-grandparents so had a special meaning to our family and friends. Joslyn was our day of wedding planner and made the entire experience seamless from beginning to end. Matt her husband also served as one of our bartenders. They are knowledgeable and have a very calm and centered approach to organization and execution of the entire wedding experinece. This is one of the neatest Midwest galleries that I've visited, and it didn't hurt that on the day that I visited, they were offering free bloody Marys and hot chocolate. Of course, I partook of the hot chocolate (with a glug of Bailey's, because it was there). How nice to have a little drink while perusing all of the art everywhere. It makes the art pop that much more. Edgewood has artwork from more than 100 artists in a wide range of media: paintings, sculpture, glass, clay, wood, jewelry. I left with a coaster for my father that had a dragonfly on it (a special symbol to our family). There is artwork in every price range here, so you can leave with a little bit of Door County artwork no matter your budget.

Inside we found numerous paintings that we enjoyed and once again, they offer items in different price ranges. They had beautiful wood pieces that would look wonderful in a home. Besides being beautiful, they seemed to have been made with a quality that will last forever. I also found several artists (jewelry) that I will continue to look for and support. If I remember correctly, all of their artists were local or if not from the region around Wisconsin, they were all from the states. The 2 ladies also gave us excellent references for places to eat while we were in the area!

There's a wide range of items and prices, including plenty under $20 (I fell hard for the "Mommy I picked you some flowers" ceramic vases, which look perfect for displaying flowers of different heights and sizes). There are also paintings, blown glass objects, jewelry, wooden items, and beautiful cards, just to name some of the offerings. I walked in on a whim, and walked out with gifts for my mom, grandma and best friend! The volunteer was very friendly, and I didn't feel any pressure whatsoever to buy things; it would have been perfectly comfortable to stroll around the gallery and admire the art, and then carry on my way. If you're passing through the area, don't miss this spot!

This is one of the shops that I found before we headed to Door County and decided I wanted to…read morevisit. It's a nice shop, but I didn't find a lot that interested me. I did buy a couple of baskets. They had some really cool art in the back, but they were prints so I skipped them. The originals have been made with leaves and other botanicals to create some really interesting work, but it didn't have the same impact for me as a simple print. The shop carries a lot of home decor sorts of things like baskets, vases, bowls, candles, and that sort of thing. Also they have a wide selection of jewelry. I almost forgot about wanting to stop here until I checked the Yelp collection I made, and we didn't pass the store when wandering along Main Street because it was separated from most of the other shops to some extent, being next door to a restaurant and one other shop but removed from the bulk of the shopping area. So if you want to stop by keep your eyes peeled.
