Clay Pot used to be one of my favorite restaurants. We decided to stop by for lunch. They've remodeled, and it looks floral and spacious inside. Our table was sticky, and the tray of condiments was dirty. I ordered a hibiscus lime tea then, when the waitress came back to inform me they were out, I ordered a brown sugar milk tea. The tea was easily the best part of the entire meal. For food, I ordered the cane sugar shrimp (cane sugar wrapped in shrimp and pork then fried) and the clay pot sampler (meatballs, dumplings, egg rolls, and fried green beans). My husband ordered wok shaken beef. The beef was TWENTY-TWO dollars! He ordered expecting a large portion. Several minutes after ordering our food, the waitress came back to tell me they were out of meatballs, so the cook was going to replace them with sweet potato fries. I asked if I could have a chicken satay skewer or extra dumplings instead to replace the main meat portion of the dish. I was told no, it would be sweet potato fries. When the food arrived, my husband was immediately disappointed in the portion size for the price of his dish. He said it tasted ok. Nothing special, but edible. He did not like anything on the sampler besides the sweet potato fries. The dumplings were wet. They tasted very bland and watery, almost like they were frozen dumplings that had been reheated. The egg rolls were fine. I enjoyed the fried green beans. They had a nice crunch and a hint of spice. I took one bite of the sugar cane shrimp and stopped eating it. It tasted very fishy, and the pork didn't look fully cooked. The inside had a light pink coloring that, combined with the taste, I just couldn't get past. After my reaction, my husband decided not to try the shrimp. I actually mentioned to the waitress that I really didn't like the shrimp and could not eat it. She apologized and asked if I wanted to talk to someone. I declined, and then she asked if I wanted it to-go. I was so disappointed with almost the entire meal. The prices were higher than average and honestly the quality was not on par with the new price point. Maybe we should have stuck with spring rolls and pho. read more

This is not authentic Vietnamese by any means. Ordered the pho bo tai and tendons and they missed my tendons. Returned the pho only to have the same bowl with most of my rare beef removed and then loaded with tendons. Traditionally l, you are given a plate of fresh sprouts and herbs along with jalapenos and lime as condiments. That was another miss. My partner orders the Pho Ga and it was decent. Both bowls came out with the same broth. Seriously. Make your broths for the proper soups you are marketing. The spring rolls were not wrapped tight enough and everything fell out in a single bite. If you are truly marketing yourselves as an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. You've missed the mark big. So disappointed. read more

Just saying, "Blasian Asian" and "Curry up and wok this way" take notes. Each time I come here to get my to go order they give me plenty of food. I don't feel like I'm paying for a box of nothing. Been hearing about this place from the Baylor parents Facebook page for about a year now. Our Bear had visited with friends and wanted us to try it out. Glad we went! The food we got was fantastic! Portions were satisfying. Presentation was great and service was courteous. There was a great vibe in the restaurant- everyone was happy and friendly. Let me start by saying, the food was really really good. My wife and I both got fried rice. I had the pineapple fried rice with grilled pork and my wife had chicken fried rice. Both were delicious and filling! I'm giving it 4 stars though because I feel as if it could use some enhancements on the inside. For instance, I looked over the bar and saw a figure inside the kitchen from under a curtain. This individual was wearing slides without socks. I mean, it was more funny than anything really, but that can come off as unprofessional, and I'm sure is against dress code. There was also some confusion about seating arrangements, whether we could go outside or had to stay inside and how our server would know where we were, but it all worked out in the end. I had been wanting to try this place out for a while now, and today was finally the day! As you walk in you quickly realize this place is going for a younger market. Prices are very reasonable and the environment is "hip" with their modern lighting and bright colored walls. As usual, I ordered shrimp and pork spring rolls and three meat pho (brisket, rare beef, and tendon) and my girlfriend ordered the chicken crispy noodles. The spring rolls were like no other! They were extremely tasty and had crunchy elements to them. I had never tried spring rolls with bits of apple, celery, and some crispy cylinder in the middle of the spring roll! Very tasty, but definitely not authentic. The pho, was not to my liking. The broth wasn't very clear and tasted more like a stew rather than a light broth. The noodles seemed over cooked and I never found the rare beef. The crispy noodles were fantastic, very tasty and pan seared to perfection! If you're going for the pho, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you're going for a modern approach to Vietnamese classics, this is your place! read more

Ate here pretty often in college. The new location gives me a different vibe. The walls are brighter they have more foot traffic with being downtown. Seemed like more staff as well. There are not a lot of vegan options in Waco, but Yelp led us here. It has a cute little storefront and was clean and friendly on the inside. The service was really friendly and efficient. We asked which items were vegan or could be made so, and she was cheerful to show us. We ended up having the "spring delight," which was made of vegetables in a flavorful sauce, and a vegan vermicelli dish made without fish sauce. We also had an order of tofu spring rolls that were terrific. I have no complaints about this restaurant, and i would definitely eat here again if I was in Waco. read more

Just went for the first time after they moved to the new location, and I was impressed! I had enjoyed the food before, but much more so this last time! Not sure if they got a new chef or if they just updated their recipes, but everything my group tried was fantastic, in particular the pho and lemongrass chicken. One of my friends is a Vietnamese immigrant, and she LOVES there pho. They tone down the spice in all their recipes, but are happy to give you varying levels of hot sauce if you ask! We have stop by Waco and decided try something safe. Usually Pho restaurant are pretty standard service and taste. But this one is definitely an "outlier" out of all restaurants. First we came in the resultant with 10 Min wait with nobody take care of us. The table was dirty and restrooms not working either. Whenever you ask something, they always mention to get it up front. When I told him that wasn't my order, he said he changed it because I wouldn't have liked the vermicelli bowl without fish sauce. I've been here a couple of times and have enjoyed my experience. The service is good and the food is good. I had to subtract one star be because when I went to the restroom there was a man employee going the bathroom and didn't wash his hand when he left. He was then waiting tables a few minutes later. Aside from that, he was teasing / being loud to some of the other employees and throwing straws etc. it just kind of ruined the customer experience of going out to an establishment to eat. Was so excited to revisit clay pot with my family, one of my faves years ago at Baylor. Unfortunately we found the service slow, person taking orders rude, the pho was super oily, vermicelli bowl had no taste and spring rolls bland. Their "famous peach tea" it says on the app is just plain Lipton tea . The hot pot was the only good tasting thing but something i could make myself just as easily. Any time we are in Waco we come to the Clay Pot!! It is our favorite restaurant in town! The pho is amazing as well as all the clay pot options. We always start our meal with the sample platter and enjoy it so much. Update: The owner was a jerk the last time we went. Apparently their doing so well he doesn't need repeat or out of town customers. When I explained that HIS staff told us a close time of 10:00 when they really closed at 9:00. I was told that it was my problem. He had the hours on the door. We took an Uber across town to get here. He didn't care. It was not his problem. He was a total duche bag. Never coming back. Awesome, near perfect pho bo and right across from Hilton downtown Waco. Saigon beer, great service, and friendly conversation from owner. I'll be back. It's hard to beat pho bo in Vietnam but one thing America has over Vietnam is great American beef. In Waco Texas the beef is fantastic. The food is always delicious and I've never had an order botched. I enjoy the atmosphere of their new location. I will say if you're a fan Vietnamese cuisine then this is the place for you! I only have a few small suggestions on things they could fix. The menu set up is a little strange and could use some readjusting and tweaking to make it easier to understand for the newer customer. Also, the service is usually hit or miss. Not that the staff isn't friendly, however, I'll usually always have a refill or never get one. Just some suggestions and feedback from a customers views. All I can say is delish! I came here with my neice and nephew for a late night dinner I ordered the Pho Ap Chao and was thoroughly pleased with the tate and quality. The noodles were fried just like I like them. I haven't tried Pho to many times but I can say this spot has the goods. The customer service was not too shaby too. There were an incident with othwe patrons sitting beside me concerning out party having a child and we ruining their date night. I brought it to the waiter attention and he seemed to handle it quickly by dismissing their comment as ignorant. I did let them know I was celebrating my birthday and they were able to offer me a huge slice of cheesecake. It was so much food, I was fortunate enough to have leftovers. Wonderful! On our way from Dallas to San Antonio we stopped off at this quaint restaurant. Walking in that ambiance was calm and relaxing. I ordered Stan's clay pot, fantastic flavors!
