This was probably the saddest order of boneless wings and fries I've ever consumed. All of the fries in my order were soggy as were the ones in a separate sandwich order in my party. The boneless wings tasted bland and uniform, the only saving grace being the side of wing sauce. Even that, however, had an odd consistency. I should have heeded the warnings from locals. There wasn't much in the way of local, non-chain, food places, so Clay Street Grill was it. My wife ordered a salad, and I ordered a Reuben sandwich and onion rings. Our ladies' group meets once a month at different restaurants and last night we decided to go to Clay Street Grill. The volume on the TV's was obnoxiously loud; we could not hear each other talk. The menu had some wonderful sounding meals, but the waitress told us that they only had a limited menu available on Mondays (appetizers, wings and hoagies) because the management schedules limited staff on Mondays. They had one bartender, one waitress and one cook on duty. Table seating is limited. The dinner height tables had food particles in the crevices between the tables and had obviously not been separated for cleaning in some time. The potato skins and wings were good but overall the whole experience was disappointing. The business is represented as a Grill but is more of a bar then Grill. Don't waste your time. read more

I ordered fish and chips and both were sitting in grease and very soggy because the oil wasn't hot enough when they cooked them. We stopped by Clay Street Grill on our way to Cleveland. The service was good. Our waitress was Nicole, and she was friendly and attentive to our needs. There is a store right next to the restaurant, but we didn't take a look. We had the Italian Hoagie and the Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli. The Italian Hoagie was okay. It's similar to Subway's Italian sub, but slightly better. However, the best part of our meal was the Stromboli. It was about the size of a football and as thick as one. There was so much deliciousness in the Stromboli that I'd drive an hour just to get it. We saw another patron get the calzone and it looked twice as big and just as delicious. What an unexpected surprise! There was 2 in our party and we only waited about 15 minutes to sit down. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful ( hostess, bar tender, waitress). The food came out fairly quickly and everything tastes really good. Also, pretty inexpensive! Our total bill was under $30 ( including tip) Appetizer, we got the garlic bread. Nothing more than a hoagie bun with garlic butter. Walnut and feta salad was delicious and huge. We got grilled chicken in it which was very moist and flavorful. I had a cup of shrimp chowder that had chunks of corn, potato and shrimp. Sweet and savory. Finally we had the Cesar grilled chicken wrap. Very fresh with an even ratio of ingredients. Our side were the sweet potato fries which were cut not too thick ( not shoe string). Crispy, yet still soft. Side note, the bar had a decent variety of beer. I had a goose island IPA. It is astonishingly rare to find this kind of "gem" anywhere in the world. It manages to obtain the trifecta of terrible dining experience: filth, garbage food, and terrible service. I have tried this place a second time, begrudgingly. My wife did not believe me about how bad this place was. Unfortunately, I live nearby and she wanted food quickly as we had been working all day. I really tried to talk her out of it, but alas. She ordered chicken tenders and fried pickles, my daughter and I ordered cheesesteaks again, because as bad as they were the first time they did not kill us. The place was still filthy, possibly more so. It is possible they had not wiped down the tables since before my last visit. The place deserves a surprise health inspection. I have no idea what the kitchen looks like, but if the front of the house is any indication; f***! Regardless I stuck with the cheesesteak because I cannot imagine what kind of vial concoction or food poisoning I would get from eating something more complicated to cobble together. Needless to say I would be too polite to call the cheesesteak an abominable s*&^ sandwich with no redeeming qualities, but probably the only item in the place that will not leave you hanging over a toilet. My wife's food was the grossest food I have seen from a restaurant at least raw chicken can be cooked. The chicken tenders were so greasy that the breading was more of a paste and you could quite literally pinch oil from them and create an oil stream on to a plate. The pickles were even worse and it was clear whoever made them not only did not know how to prep them but used cold, old, and dirty oil to cook them in and was probably the same oil the chicken was cooked in. The service also still sucked, I actually believe my server was drunk while serving my family. I also believe anyone giving this place a non negative review is likely drunk, on drugs, or the first meal they have had after being lost in the woods for 5 weeks. Even if I grade this on a scale reserved for tavern/bar/pub food, this place ranks in the bottom 5 restaurants I have ever eaten at. read more

The first thing I noticed was that the cooks in the back weren't wearing face coverings. The girl who presented us with our take-out order had her nose hanging out. This was how they take their customers safety during a pandemic and against their governors order. Against our better judgement, and with some research as to if we could catch COVID-19 from eating, we ate the pizza and wings. That was our second mistake. The pizza was substandard kind of like you'd get at a chain. We also got hot wings. They were small and just had Red Hot on them. Not being from around here this place was suggested for us from a local. I guess it was her family members place because that's the only way to spin the glowing review we received. Take a look past this place and you'll probably get a good meal. We didn't. BTW. The locals walk into the place unmasked which is a direct violation to the state regulations.
