A picture with some of the dojo family!
    Xena M.

After many years of being here, my outlook on this dojo has only gotten better. Thank you Claycomb Academy of Martial Arts for continuing to provide me a safe and welcome space to train in. As a black belt my self with previous experience, it's hard to come by dojos that teach applicable and life-saving training, while remaining professional and helpful, though CKA has all of that! Especially as a female, this place has become my safe haven. I do not feel intimidated, like I would feel in a typical gym or mma studio. This dojo prides itself in teaching traditional Shotokan karate, but using it for its real intention of self-defense. Everybody there is training to better themselves and to bring each other up together, rather than competing to see who is the best. For those interested in signing up themselves or their children, the instructors come with a background of how to handle kids with ADHD and Autism. They are very patient with kids and show such empathy and kindness in their instruction. Having an autistic brother myself, I could see how these people put the time and effort in each student on the mat. If you are looking for a family-owned business that caters to your needs and teach with all their passion, you have found the perfect dojo for you!

This place has been amazing in building character in my brother. We have watched him grow and devlop more and more dedication throughout the years. It's absolutely amazing here, great atmosphere, and absolutely friendly family running this buisness.

I have been coming to this dojo for 2 and a half years and I have had MASSIVE improvement in muscle gain, balance technique, and weapon skills. I highly recommend going to the dojo if you want to gain muscle. Yes they are strict but you start to learn discipline and after doing a technique over and over again it starts to get easier and easier. I give this dojo five stars, If you want to learn karate I recommend to come here.

I am so thankful and blessed to have found this dojo for our son, we were and are currently struggling with his behavior, focus and attitude in general. Our son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Karate has helped so so much with the process of keeping him on track. Shihan Joseph, Sensei Michael and Sensei Xena have been so amazing since day one with all their knowledge and love for everyone in the dojo! I highly recommend this dojo for any child over the age of 6 and they have classes for adults too!

Look how clean this place is!!

I have been looking for a long time for an authentic Karate place to put my kid in.... And.... I found oneeeee!!! Woooot woot! This place is hands down is the best dojo. What I loved most is you actually have to earn your way up and it's not all about money.. My daughter looks forward to her days to train and that's awesome! Another plus is the prices are super reasonable! Wait one more thing! That place is sooooo squeaky clean!

I've been training here at the Academy of Martial Arts for a few months now. Not only have I lost weight since I started (about 15lbs), but I am starting to feel myself getting stronger. The time spent in each class gives me a tremendous workout while learning self defense techniques that are based on traditional Shotokan, but with a more modern approach to real life practical application and defense. On Saturdays traditional Kata classes are taught. The Dojo is very clean, colorful, and attractive. It is well stocked with equipment such as heavy bags, pads, and gear. There is an assortment of weapons that students may choose to be trained in, and the entire workout area is covered with a padded flooring. It is very inviting and you immediately feel that you are in a dojo. I have found all the students from the youngest to oldest to be very respectful, curious, and friendly. And the Instructors Shihan Claycomb and Sensei Dionne to be wonderful instructors with their vast knowledge of Shotokan Karate, Judo, Kick Boxing, Wrestling, Grappling, and Sparring. Whether you are someone wanting a place to train for competitions, or whether you are someone like me who wants to continue to lose weight, get stronger and be more confident and in charge of my health and life, I couldn't recommend this facility enough.

I told my son I would make a couple different appointments and it would be his decision which Dojo he wanted to join. Our first and only appointment was with Red Dragon. He was extremely nervous, but Sensei Kira made him feel so comfortable. I really like the fact that they don't even bring up membership the first trial class. It's focused solely on the student. He was so excited, we went back the next day. I felt ZERO pressure to join and loved that everything is included in our monthly payment. No charge for belt testing, gear, or even tournaments. For my husband and I, that is a huge plus. We also got to choose which day of the month payment would come out. My son has been there a little over a month and loves every moment in class. Each Sensei and Senpai is absolutely amazing with the kids. I see a huge difference in the way my son carries himself. He's much more confident and practices in his room constantly. He's so determined to be his best and it's a beautiful sight. If you are hesitant, don't be! All the kids are so respectful and the atmosphere is extremely welcoming. Your child will benefit from this experience.

I had just parked in their lot when I accidentally locked my phone and keys inside my car--with my dog still sitting in the back seat. The temperature was rising fast, and panic set in immediately. Without a second thought, several staff members from the Center rushed out to help. Fernando, in particular, stepped up right away. He didn't hesitate to call the Fire Department for me and calmly let me borrow his personal phone so I could reach my wife. After several attempts, she finally picked up and was able to unlock the doors remotely through the cloud. My dog was safe, and the relief I felt was overwhelming. What truly stood out was how the entire staff responded. Multiple people came outside to check on the situation, offering support and staying with me until everything was resolved. Their quick thinking, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond turned a stressful emergency into a moment of genuine community care. Jessie Turner Community Health Center doesn't just provide excellent healthcare--they show up for people when it matters most. The staff truly embodies what it means to serve with heart. God bless Fernando and the whole team. You are all heroes in my book. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for protecting my furry family member and for your incredible kindness. I would only know this if he told me... he did. He likes to brag... a lot. He brags to the whole dojo. Also a cult-Luke atmosphere. "I don't know any kids who quit; only parents who quit." So planting the seed if you "cancel" services you're a loser/quitter. That crap doesn't work on me. He likes to lecture the parents a lot under the guise of addressing "the class" I see right through his bull. I was paying $330 per month, but that's not all! Wait! There's more! There's a $29 fee sign up per child. There are tons of other fees. Tournament fees, test fees... $60 here, $80 there, $50 for this... it's extremely expensive and it didn't even work. I spent thousands of dollars in less than a year... over $3,000 in 7 months, and that doesn't include the months that they charged me after I said I wanted to terminate my contract. My contract was up. I was on the fence to renew due to the expense, the schedule, and it wasn't really accomplishing what we wanted to accomplish. When it was time to renew, I asked Angela if my boys could keep attending the same class because I only had a small window after school to be able to show up. I told her that I would only renew if my boys could stay in the same class. I overheard the conversation she had with Michael (because I was sitting on the floor since there is never any seats to sit in). He said it would be fine, so I renewed my contract for 7 more months. 1 month later, this happened: He gave a speech to the whole dojo. Parents and children included (another lecture to the whole "class" but he was really directly addressing ME). It was right after a "test." Both of my kids passed their tests and belted up. So he decided to make an "announcement", I guess. "If you have two kids in the same class and one of them passed their test then they are going to be in a different class now and you need to figure that out. I have a family who have 8 kids in 8 different classes so figure it out." It was obvious to me he was addressing me since I was the only human being who had two kids in the same class. If he wasn't cool with that- it would be fine, but he never said that. He said he was cool until I signed the contract and then all of a sudden he wants to call me out in front of literally everyone because I literally can't be in two places at once. I never showed up for a class after that, but I still had to pay over $1,000 which was a loss. Also, why do we need to teach 5-year-olds how to break someone's arm? That's weird. Like, I get "kick here; kick there." Do your blocking set. Do Form 1, etc... but why? Why would a 5-year-old ever need to know how to give another child a "spiral fracture" in their arm?? It's weird. He was SO JAZZED to teach a bunch of kids how to give another kid a spiral fracture in their arm. Odd. Kindergarteners! Scared mouse of a wife charges bookoo bucks for photos, another upcharge. She puts her photos on shirts & (over)charges for that as well. Very cult-like atmosphere.
