Tournament inside Upland Martial Arts Center
    Dean G.

My son had been begging me to put him in karate for months. As soon as he turned 6 I enrolled him through the City of Upland's Recreation program. The class times are convenient for our schedule. He loves going to karate and has really stuck with the commitment of attending weekly classes, learning his forms and moving through the belt system. It is definitely a family friendly environment and everyone makes you feel welcome. The tournaments that Sensei puts on every few months are great. They motivate my son to continue learning and trying his best. We had tried another martial arts studio with my other child but after the introductory trial was over I was floored at the monthly tuition costs. We did not continue at the time because it wasn't in the budget. With Upland Martial Arts the tuition is much more affordable and I feel it is a great value for the services provided.

The atmosphere is positive, family friendly, and focused on helping every student improve, regardless of experience level. The coaching is outstanding. Daniel trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and MMA, while I train in Muay Thai. Since joining, we've both improved tremendously. Daniel has elevated his grappling and overall fight game, and my striking, conditioning, and confidence have improved significantly. One of the biggest highlights has been watching Daniel's progress. Since training at Strength And Honor MMA, he has won multiple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments and continues to grow as a competitor. More importantly, he has become more confident, disciplined, respectful, and resilient. The coaches do an incredible job developing both skills and character. My Muay Thai training has also been an amazing experience. The instruction is technical, challenging, and practical. Every class pushes me to improve while keeping a positive and supportive atmosphere. If you're looking for top quality instruction in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, or MMA, I highly recommend Strength And Honor MMA. Whether your goal is competition, fitness, self defense, or helping your child build confidence and discipline, this is an outstanding place to train.

I never played sports because I didn't think I'd be good at any of them, and I never enjoyed working out. I originally joined because I simply wanted to be more active and find something fun to do. I never imagined I would completely fall in love with Muay Thai. Over the past year and a half, this gym has given me so much more than just a workout. I've made amazing friends, gained confidence, and found a community that genuinely feels like family. Everyone here is welcoming, respectful, and supportive, no matter your experience level. The Krus are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. They truly care about helping every student improve while creating a positive environment where everyone can succeed. A year and a half later, Heart and Pride has become my second home. It's a place I look forward to coming to every week, and I honestly can't imagine my life without it. If you're thinking about trying Muay Thai--even if you've never been athletic or played sports before--don't hesitate. This gym has completely changed my life, and I'm so grateful to be part of the Heart and Pride family.

*BUYER BEWARE* be ready to pay double if you cancel!!!…read more You have to remember one thing, even though this is about your "kids" this is really a business and never forget that they are here to make money at the end of the day. My wife and I are coming into some financial issues and we asked for a cancellation, I came in person to cancel they told us that we had to email in order to do a cancellation before our next billing cycle when I asked for a cancellation in person. The response we got we have to wait 60 days two months in order to cancel our membership. That doesn't sound reasonable at all not even apartments make you wait that long. "Fair" business practices is no more than 30 days notice? But 60?!? That's a money grab and a shady business practice in my opinion. Originally I wanted to put us on hold for a few months but now I know we will never be back again. It's all about the principal. At the end of the day again it's a business and they're here to make money, not change lives. MONEY IS KING!!!!! I would highly reconsider taking your child or anyone you know elsewhere my biggest regret is signing up with them in the first place. Shame on you for shady business practices!

This location is owned by the same owners as GB Upland. If your goal is just to do jiu-jitsu for…read morefitness, this school may work fine. The main issue is the curriculum. It's very basic, standardized, and repeated year-round. This appears intentional. Regular classes teach only the minimum, while techniques outside the posted curriculum are pushed into paid private lessons. Because of this, most students are trained as hobbyists. Extra instruction or advanced opportunities often depend on personal relationships rather than a structured development path. The curriculum is designed for retention, not depth, and this model is consistent across Gracie Barra schools. The gap becomes clear when students compete or train outside the Gracie Barra environment. While internal GB tournaments create an even playing field, they can give a false sense of progress. When students compete outside of GB or train at another academy against the same rank the difference in technical depth, adaptability, and exposure is often very noticeable. Even the instructors don't train the same curriculum as regular students, which speaks to how limited it is. Compared to other academies that teach more as part of regular training (without extra fees), this approach leaves students less prepared overall.

When we first enrolled, we were hoping to find an activity that would help our child stay active, learn discipline, and build confidence. What we found was much more than just a martial arts class. Master Kang's Taekwondo has created an environment where children are encouraged to grow not only physically, but also emotionally and socially. One of the things that stands out the most is the quality of the instructors. The teachers are patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping each child succeed. They have a great ability to connect with kids while still maintaining structure and discipline during class. The balance between fun and focus is something they manage very well. Classes are engaging and energetic, and the instructor does a great job keeping the children motivated and attentive from start to finish. We especially appreciate the way the program encourages students to support one another. Rather than creating a competitive atmosphere where kids feel pressured to outperform their peers, the instructors focus on building a community where students celebrate each other's accomplishments. When one child achieves something--whether it's mastering a new technique, completing a form, or earning a new belt--the other students are encouraged to cheer them on. It creates a very positive environment where kids learn that success can be shared and that supporting friends is just as important as personal progress. Another important lesson the instructors emphasize is learning to work through challenges and setbacks. Martial arts can be difficult at times, and not every technique comes easily. The instructors consistently encourage the students to keep trying, practice regularly, and not be discouraged by mistakes. Over the past year, we've seen our child become more resilient and willing to keep working at something even when it feels difficult. This mindset has carried over into other parts of life, including school and everyday responsibilities. Accountability is also a big part of what the children learn here. The instructors help students understand that progress comes from effort and consistency. They encourage the kids to learn their routines, listen carefully, and take responsibility for their own improvement. These lessons about discipline and commitment are incredibly valuable and extend far beyond martial arts training. Another thing we really appreciate is how engaging the instructor is with the children. It's not always easy to keep a group of kids focused, especially after a long day at school, but the instructor does an excellent job of making the classes both structured and fun. The students are constantly moving, practicing techniques, and improving their coordination and strength, all while staying excited about what they are learning. One of the best signs that we chose the right place is how much our child looks forward to class. After spending the day at school, it would be understandable if they were tired or reluctant to go to another activity. Instead, our child is always excited to go to Taekwondo and looks forward to every class. That enthusiasm says a lot about the positive environment the instructors have created. The school also offers additional days and activities that help build friendships and teamwork among the students. These events are fun for the kids but also reinforce important life skills such as cooperation, respect, and perseverance. They give the students a chance to bond outside of regular classes and strengthen the sense of community within the school. Over the past year, we have seen a lot of growth in our child. Their confidence has improved, they are more willing to try new things, and they take pride in their progress. The structure and encouragement provided by the instructors have made a real difference. As parents, we also appreciate how welcoming the overall environment is. It's clear that the instructors care about the students and want them to succeed, both in Taekwondo and in life. They create a space where kids feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to keep improving. We plan to continue coming to Master Kang's Taekwondo and supporting our child as they work toward earning their black belt--or until they decide they are ready to move on to something else. Either way, the lessons they are learning here--discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork--are skills that will stay with them for years to come. Overall, we highly recommend Master Kang's Taekwondo to any family looking for a program that focuses not just on martial arts, but also on building character and confidence in children. It has been a wonderful experience for our child and our family.
