I understand that choosing a psychiatrist is a very difficult decision, and usually when you need…read moreto do so, you are not in the best frame of mind to make what is a very important decision. That said, Dr. Patel has been a very good psychiatrist for me. He is compassionate, listens, and gives much needed advice. What people need to remember is that what a psychiatrist usually does is work with a patient and their medication(s) only. Psychiatrists normally don't provide therapy. I do not see Dr. Patel for therapy, simply for medicine management. Even so, he does take time to talk to me. He is a kind man. He has helped me tremendously when I needed help. If I need his assistance between appointments, I call and am able to speak with his assistant, who speaks with Dr. Patel. If necessary, an appointment is scheduled for me right away. I always feel cared for. Additionally, the staff at his office, Florida Behavioral Medicine, are all friendly and helpful, even when they are overworked with answering the phones, checking people in, checking people out and answering questions from people coming in and out. Florida Behavioral Medicine is a multi-doctor practice and sometimes the lobby may be a bit hectic. But I am always checked in before my appointment time, although at times patience is a virtue. Regardless of how busy the entire practice is, I usually see Dr. Patel on time and sometimes earlier than my scheduled time. I tend to show up for appointments early - that's just who I am. Dr. Patel is the most effective psychiatrist I have ever had, and just believe me, that is really saying a lot.

Do not use this DR. He prescribes addictive medicines then cannot get the prescriptions right and…read morethe prescriptions run out leaving a patient in withdrawal. They do not respond to urgent voicemails, ignore faxes and calls from the pharmacy, and this happens every cycle. He requires a visit every 60 days, but they schedule past the 60 days. I believe this practice of ignoring patients who are having to stop taking medicines that warnings say DO NOT suddenly stop taking medicine is malpractice and a call to our lawyer is next after writing reviews to let people know to never ever use this DR. He is bad news, period. Or his office staff, but the buck stops at the top, and hard to blame a horrible team if the DR does not care. The past few years with Dr. Ashtok Patel has been a repeating nightmare from day one.

I called this money-farm and was told that I needed to take a CPT test online that would last 30min to diagnose my ADHD, and it would NOT be billed to my (very good 100% covered) insurance. And that I would instead need to pay $90 out of pocket. I literally laughed so hard at this money scam. At which point she told me it was "Florida law". After regaining my breath, I politely said my goodbyes (only after I told her I knew they were running a scam ) and immediately called my insurance to report what happened. They said it is NOT Florida law, and that if I was ever billed, they would cover everything at 100% minus medication. They literally told me not to go to that office! Zero compassion; this facility's operating system runs off of creating obedience and demoralization if you ever dare to advocate for yourself. The only thing this place teaches people is to deal with being homeless rather than deal with Rockland. To improve this facility they would need to do a complete overhaul on their daily operation and listening to patients first before jumping to conclusions. Too many complaints for a simple review. If you need treatment, there is a hospital right next to their housing units. I saved my own life by taking this route after two weeks of dealing with a very serious medication issue that landed me there in the first place. The medical director cleared me and they still chose to do their own thing against medical director advice. I almost had another manic episode before checking into the hospital to get my prescription. A non-narcotic blood pressure medication might I add.

Totally unexpected. And what? This place saved her life. ER doctors were great! Nurses, 100% amazing! Lance on the 4th floor called for ICU when he realized she was septic at 104F it. Then. Dr Lombard - Urologist. Saved her life - both of them. Then Donna - Charge nurse on floor 5 after everything was done. Her crew was top notch and #1. My wife spent 11 days in this hospital. Donna and her nursing staff were the best I have ever experienced at ANY hospital in my entire life. Kudos to these ladies who work their butts off behind the scenes. They even let my Dalmatian come into the hospital with me. And I had only 1 really terrible nurse on the 4th floor ( Julie - you know who you are - thank god you do not work for me - you'd be fired instantly - you almost killed my wife - thanks for not listening to her - made her sleep in puke with a 104 fever and septic - real good Julie. ) Lance came on shift after Julie and noticed she was 104F and called for ICU instantly and knew she was septic. This Julie nurse almost killed my wife - I hope you can sleep at night. Every single other doctor and nurse was thorough and helpful. Thank you to Lance on 4, Donna on 5, and ALL of the nurses on 5. My wife and I have sat and cried about how well she was treated at this place. We have reflected on how Julie almost killed her. And how Lance saved her life, and Dr Lombard as well. We cried about all the great experiences we had on the 5th floor with Donna and each of her nurses. Donna and her staff made this the absolute most wonderful hospital stay that I have ever experienced in my entire life. I want to express extreme gratitude to these people. Thank you! You saved her life! *Quick mention* Security staff at the front entrance - you guys were top-notch. I really enjoyed you guys, and thank you for everything! You guys were amazing and deserve a raise!!!!!

I have nothing but positive things to say about this hospital. I've personally been there and my…read moremom has as well. About two weeks ago my mom was admitted after a stroke and everyone from the ER triage nurses to the people delivering meal trays were just so nice, helpful and patient with my mother and kept our family up to date with things regarding her health. Since we spent a few long days at the hospital we were given a cart with tea, coffee, bottled water, soft drinks, fruit and snacks every day that were were there. That was completely unexpected and so appreciated. I especially appreciate the nurses in the Neuro ICU unit and the nurses in the third floor comfort care unit. Their compassion and was incredible especially since such an awful time in our lives. They have a DD downstairs in the lobby and a cafeteria where the food actually isn't bad at all. They even provide meals free of charge sent to the patient's room if you want.

I have recommended several people to him over the years (he is not always taking on new patients, so check back regularly) and have had grateful communications from every one of them. One good friend that I had referred to him, after this friend had griped that his current doctor was just not that interested, complained jokingly that Dr Purcell was spending too much time on him and that his appointments were taking too long. If I had any negative it would be that during busy times (eg flu season) it can be hard to get an appointment with him, and they try to divert you to other Doctors in the (large) practice. Dr Purcell is the best doctor I have ever interacted with, in any field. PS: If you research him, you will find he is one of those rare family doctors who takes almost nothing (bribes?) from the pharmaceutical industry.
