I have nothing but positive things to say about this hospital. I've personally been there and my mom has as well. About two weeks ago my mom was admitted after a stroke and everyone from the ER triage nurses to the people delivering meal trays were just so nice, helpful and patient with my mother and kept our family up to date with things regarding her health. Since we spent a few long days at the hospital we were given a cart with tea, coffee, bottled water, soft drinks, fruit and snacks every day that were were there. That was completely unexpected and so appreciated. I especially appreciate the nurses in the Neuro ICU unit and the nurses in the third floor comfort care unit. Their compassion and was incredible especially since such an awful time in our lives. They have a DD downstairs in the lobby and a cafeteria where the food actually isn't bad at all. They even provide meals free of charge sent to the patient's room if you want. read more

last week I had a simple procedure. I spoke directly with the anesthesiologist told him I was allergic to an anesthesia I had on an orange armband. It's in my records. Horrible experience at this hospital. A few years ago they almost killed my mother. The hospital was taken over and changed names so I thought I would give it a shot when I needed to go to an ER. BIG MISTAKE. Never ever will I return to this hospital. Be forewarned! Terrible treatment, especially being triaged. She was the worst and got me so upset. The front person who greets you was amazing. I wasn't heard at all and the doctor and some of the nurses exhibited no bedside manner. I felt patronized and condescended to. Horrible! Avoid going here, especially if your life depends on it. My mom fell and had to visit an ER immediately because she was in so much pain. There was a 3 min wait( now I know why because nobody goes there) so we decided it was the best chance to get some relief for her and to see if anything was broken etc. Got there and waited about 20 mins to be seen. The first nurse checks her in and gets her vitals. Orders X-rays. We wait a good amount of time. Then they call her back. The first thing they wanted to do is move her arm around before taking X-rays and she refused it. Thank god cause it was severely broken and would have caused even more damage. They refused to give her anything at all for pain when obviously she was suffering greatly. Said it was some Florida state thing as to why they couldn't give her anything at all for pain. Mind you she is 65 and has numerous health issues...not the typical druggy walking off the street for pain meds. After they did the xray they said everything looked fine and sent her home with me after a 3+ hour process. She had to wait 3 days before she could move around enough to travel back home. Had to wait to see a specialist who very very clearly saw it was so severely broken that he couldn't even attempt to set it back in place! How did largo even miss this when they took multiple X-rays! It's so obvious that an untrained eye can see the broken spots! Blows my mind how little they cared for her. I also had to eventually leave the waiting room because the intake nurse was being so annoying with watching horrible movies and yelling every word of it out as it played...like I'm in the mood to hear that at 2am in the situation I'm in with my mom. read more

Largo medical definitely has disparities when it comes to black people I have subjects to it serval times.i went the ER on sat and was sent home saying they couldn't find anything wrong.i went home to return on sat, to tell nothing was wrong. I couldn't hold nothing down not even water I very weak. So I leave and go to Tampa general for Tampa general find out what was wrong. I hate I have to deal with their prejudice ways because I have a LVAD. They're ER department is the worst. I took my husband to ER for low hemoglobin. On arrival the waiting room was bright & clean. The hospital was not busy at all so the Dr was in the room for intake. One nurse drew blood & left a port for drawing more. Actually, I never would have mentioned this but now it is just something to add to this nightmare...I was sitting next to my husband when I looked down & saw a tube of blood on the floor by the bed. I picked it up & ran it to the nurse. He had dropped it & not noticed, I guess. Next another woman came to draw more blood. She could not stop the nonstop beeping & she refused to use the port to draw the blood. She stuck him 2 more times. He was there for a blood transfusion & in 30 minutes they've now drawn blood twice??? Then the dr stopped by to say they ordered blood. We walked in at 5pm. The blood was ordered by 5:30. We sat in that room until 10pm before they started the blood transfusion. I was aggravated but trying to be patient as I know things take time. This seemed excessive. I ordered dinner to be delivered since he was hungry & not offered food. No worries there either. I did not mind ordering for him & the Dr said it was fine. The hospital seemed very empty as I walked through the halls. The Dr came in as they were starting the blood & said to turn it up so it would pump faster. I think she may of been trying to save us from the nightmare we were about to encounter. Everything was fine until 11pm. It was SLOW but I was definitely not prepared for that 11pm change. The nurse never turned the pump up so it was on a very slow drip. At 11pm they said they were cutting staff & needed to move our room. Seemed a bit ridiculous since they had started blood at that point. We still followed along. I immediately notice the room is filthy! Blood from another patient, trash, little black bugs, it was gross. I told the nurse who replied "we do not have housekeeping in the evenings so we just reuse the rooms until morning" EXCUSE ME!?!! I must also mention they tried to force a Covid & flu test with ZERO symptoms at all!!! So now I'm thinking they are trying to make people sick. What other explanation is there for the blatant disregard for hygiene, safety, biohazard... I was afraid to touch anything in that room. I used soap & paper towels to wash the chair & remove the tiny black bugs because I had to sit there another few hours. I asked them to call the dr to verify she said turn the pump up so we could get out of there. The nurse tells us how they treat so many homeless addicts that sleep in the parking lot... so who exactly or HOW MANY others were put in that room since it was last cleaned? I do not know what time their housekeeping staff left but by 11pm I'm sure quite some time had elapsed. It's possible they treated multiple patients in this room prior to putting us in it WITHOUT cleaning in between patients. There was blood from another patient running down the exterior of the needle box. I went to throw trash in the can, it was FULL! On top was one of those urine bottles. It was full of biohazard nastiness that no one took out prior to using the room again!! We were there 8 hours. No one ever checked the swelling on his legs or even administered an IV. 8 hours to receive blood in an EXTREMELY UNSANITARY hospital. In 8 hours they drew blood, took vitals (at intake) after which they only checked the BP cuff. It took 5 of those 8 to begin the blood. No other medical treatments or even IV fluids were administered in those 8 hours. Oh yeah, the AMA we signed to get out of there, has the WRONG diagnosis on it. I'm sure I'll have to fight that later as well. This was by far the nastiness hospital I have ever walked into. Hospitals are generally very clean & sanitary. This ER needs to be shut down! God help us if there is an outbreak of any type of illness or disease. This place will contribute to the cases by failing to sanitize rooms between patients. Right now I'm just praying we did not come into contact with anything contagious in that disgusting hospital room. Keep driving, your life may very well depend on it. Horrible Treatment & Negligent Care - Avoid This Hospital at All Costs! If I could give this hospital zero stars, I absolutely would. The treatment my mother received here was beyond unacceptable--it was negligent, careless, and downright inhumane. They failed to give her medications on time, and when they did, they were giving nighttime meds in the morning--when questioned, they simply blamed the doctor's chart without double-checking. Her wound care was completely ignored to the point where the gauze was sticking to her wound due to a lack of proper dressing changes. Instead of handling it with care, they ripped the bandages off without properly cleaning or soaking the area like they were supposed to. When we tried to get her transferred to a different hospital because of their incompetence, they refused and claimed they were "doing what they were supposed to." If that were true, we wouldn't have been begging to move her! To make matters worse, when we were finally leaving, they refused to provide any paperwork or documentation regarding what was done (or more accurately, what was neglected). The staff is completely hit or miss--some act like they care, but others are dismissive, rude, and unwilling to answer even the most basic questions about patient care. This was by far the worst hospital experience my mother has ever had, and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. If you care about your loved ones, stay far away from this place! read more

Most of the nurses and techs were very friendly and cared for their patients, but I felt that they were overworked, and not able to answer the call button as quickly as needed. If I could separate this review I would give it a 1 star for communication. Communication was awful. Doctors did not return calls to me while my mom (who has dementia) was in the hospital. Nurses did not know answers and would tell me I needed to speak with the doctor but I was never in the room when the doctor came. I had to make numerous phone calls to find out when she was being released because no one could or would call me. She was left in the bed all day one day because she thought she had to be and no one got her up because physical therapy had already signed off on her. The doctor that did call me said that she would be able to go home the next morning but it was two full days later that she finally was discharged. If your loved one is not able to take care of themselves, I would not recommend this hospital. read more

I went to hospital by ambulance and needed a heart cath. Not a fun experience. After the procedure I was wheeled into recovery and met Janae a nurse there she was very efficient and nice! I had a small issue with bleeding which she stopped right away. she made me feel comfortable and less nervous. Cheerful and efficient. Hard to come by these days. I have been admitted to this Hospital three times this year for the same medical problem. Each time the experience has been worse than the time before . Very poor basic patient care. I was in for one night. I never got breakfast the next morning until I compalined and then it took aound another 45 mins for it to show up almost time for the lunch service. I am diabetic and can't go than long without food. The menue had been changed somehow to liquid diet (no one of course cares to explain how that happend). Basically the problem seems to be a lack of communication. You either get the ("I don't know") or a you have to ask your nurse and then that dosen't happen either. When I contacted the Hosptal Patient Advocate she instantly became confrontational and was useless. In short know one seems to listen. I think after three stays in this Hospital this year you can see how your treated. It's not sporatiic. I realize we dont have much of a choice of Hospitals if your doctor is on staff here. This was my first experience with Largo Medical center. I was there for a routine colonoscopy. There was ample free parking. The waiting room was under renovation so my "responsible person" got a free food voucher for the cafeteria. From the admission process to me leaving after the procedure, everything ran smoothly. I can't think of a negative thing to say. If you have the choice of hospitals for your next procedure, I can definitely recommend Largo Medical Center. My patient with dementia went in for tube feed placement with the understanding he would be home in 24 hours. 7 days later, no medical complications to require prolonging stay, he is still there. First is was no discharge order. Today's excuse to milk Medicare is that the tube feed wasn't ordered and today is a holiday. Beyond inconvenient....this patient loses function when he goes to the hospital or rehab. He was only suppose to be there for 24 hours. The doctors have second year residences to all the legwork., Unfortunately, a family member was in there June 11, until July 8, after spending many hours in their observing what a mess to watch her own family member regress I always are. My room was dirty, they never offered me towels or to be cleaned up, I was there 5 days, a lot of jobs not getting done. Including the social working setting up my walker and home health, I was left in holding for almost 30 minutes before I asked some random person to take me back to my room, my IV was Infected. What I can tell you after receiving services from the other health care provider in the area, HCA Largo has the best Nurses and doctors that I have encountered. (Not that the others were bad, but decision-making skills escaped them. This all could have been complete two months ago if they had listened to me.) ONCE AGAIN, THIS STATEMENT IS FOR BAYCARE, HCA was the BEST! Specifically, Dr. Leto, Nurses Mark, Nelly, Mary Ann, and others whose names escape me (I was on pain meds). The care they showed to me, for a procedure that was not quite complex, which I guess became complex, I was there but sleeping, was off the charts. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Mother went in for a severe infection, drs and nurses refused to listen or report her symptoms. Only after we filed an appeal when they tried to discharge her to physical therapy, they finally & reluctantly gave her a Covid test. We were told multiple times that she tested negative for Covid when she was admitted and another test was not necessary. We told them she was having difficulty breathing and severe headaches for 5 days in a row - of course the test came back positive. We lost the appeal for discharge - they were gleeful. 10 Minutes before discharge they took her oxygen levels and after 4 attempts they got an 'acceptable' oxygen reading of 90 - below 90 - I was informed they need to keep her. They kept taking readings until they got the one they liked. Within 24 hours we are back in the ER Morton plant this time - her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low at the rehab facility. Dr Hughes - nurse Kelley , Nurse Heriberto, Nurse Dawn are all complicit in this and repeatedly ignored me and my family. Totally disgraceful. read more

What a horrible hospital. My sister just got home from there. She is diagnosed with brain and lung cancer. The nursing staff that services room 403 was horrible. I got there at 8:00 this morning and asked the nurse 3 different questions to confirm things were going to be taken care of before my sister was released today. The nurse got an attitude saying to give her time as she was not a morning person. Seriously? Why are you even in this profession then. And they sent her prescriptions to a pharmacy in Tampa which is like 45 minutes away because the nursing staff didn't bother to check with my sister which pharmacy she used. The staff said that they probably couldn't change it because it was already called in? WTF Yesterday I got there around 8:30 and my sister was laying naked in the bed with no sheet or gown. While addressing the staff about it the 3 nurses looked at each other saying they thought the other had handled it Like from 3 am to 8:00 you haven't even been in her room? This is not a hospital anyone wants to be in so make sure you check with the ambulance driver or whoever is taking you to a hospital to be sure HCA Largo Hospital is not where you are headed. Avoid HCA St. Pete as well. Same scenario. Terrible terrible staff. I had to be there all day and through the early evening to be sure my sister got her meds on time because the staff just doesn't care. Our dad suffered two subdural hematomas late February. After admitted to the NSICU, he was professionally cared for by many wonderfully talented folks both in the NSICU and on the "floor"! I came to the hospital earlier today for a infection check up and I also have a heart/chest pain issue. Last year I had a stroke When I was young the doctors told me I had water around my heart muscle and it could weaken the tissue and drown my heart I always had chest pains Lately they have got worse due to stress. During my visit the nurse earlier today and doctor did not run any blood work and dismissed what I said 15 minutes later at Wendy's my chest was in a extreme amount of pain and caused my left side of my body to go numb and weak so I knew it was a pre stroke or even a stroke I returned this evening to be seen by your medical staff to at least have some test ran unfortunately the doctor started yelling at me like a fucking nut case telling me this is what he does. Funny thing is the doctor said I was not having a stroke but had zero factual evidence to back up his medical opinion as opposed to the patient telling him where the pain in my body is. We can't say enough good things about this hospital. My husband was transferred to HCA Largo from HCA Oak Hill to get a procedure from a specialist. Although he had to wait for 3 days for the procedure, he had multiple issues going on that needed to be addressed and the staff of doctors, nurses and techs were amazing. He was cared for with respect and with empathy. His respiratory issues were resolved. They Looked at this heart issue and determined that there was no need for concern. We were dissaponted with the results of the procedure, but everything was explained to us in detail by Dr. Connelly and by Dr. Mallory (first name). It was explained that the results may not be immediate and we need to give it time. They were upfront with the expectations. We need to shout out praises for the 5th floor staff. Especially Jenn, who was a sweetheart, Ish who was very professional and empathetic. Donna, Karen, Shay, Izzy, Chantal and Chiquita who were all very attentive and delightful. My husband felt comfortable and content with the care he received from you all. Everyone treated us with respect and utmost friendliness and compassion. We are grateful to the staff. read more

After saving my mother's life they tried to kill her. My mother had a heart attack and received a stent. She was placed in the NCU because ICU had no beds. When I went in to see her after she woke up, she was coherent and looked good and was told she'd be able to go home in a day or 2 so I went home to prepare for her return. A few hours later I walked into a hell that has taken my mother from me. They decided to use my mother as a guinipig and did an "aspirin test" on her when it clearly states she's allergic and my mother and I reiterated that fact. The next week was a nightmare. They had strapped her to the bed and continuously pushed her down and pumped her full of antipychotic drugs. She was out of her mind which led everyone to think that was normal and that she had dementia. I was terrified when I walked in her room and was told she was being released. She had feces all over her legs and feet and was obviously not ok. I told the doctor I can't take her home and care for her. He responded by saying isn't she always like this? Your her care taker? No I'm her daughter and she had mental or intellectual issues. A week later the stent gave out from the the abuse she endured and had another heart attack. This time we went to Morton Plant, but the damages caused by Largo hospital are permanent. Ours lives are forever changed and the images of seeing what they did to her are burned in my mind. And no Doctor I've asked has ever heard of an aspirin test!! read more

My 79 year old friend had an Emergency for a fall and was too weak to get up. The paramedics from 911 chose this hospital for its cardio speciality. This Emergency centre was wonderful for the first 2 days, ALL staff were friendly, caring and efficient on 2nd floor - 10 out of 10. Then he was moved to another room on 3rd floor, and the head nurse (Emily) was a 'monster', controlling, invalidating, degrading, a total pain. Fortunately the night nurse was friendly and caring again, but couldn't totally make up for the 'monster' - 1 out of 10. He just wants to get out of there asap. read more

We experienced a failed communication / process between this largo medical where the test was performed , and the " test reader" at Heart institute. When this test was scheduled, we warned that surgery was 2 days away and the report needed to be expedited. We were assured this was doable. AT 5:00 pm THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY were told many others had called on our behalf and got voice mail or non answers so we found OURSELVES trying to locate the report , unaware of the processes or handoffs. In desperation, we asked for help from Sandy, executive assistant to Adam Rudd , largo medical CEO . She reported --the next day--that she was only able to "leave a message" as well. If the CEOs office can't get results, does that Tell you something? Without this report and no clearance, our long planned/ awaited surgery was cancelled. Afterwards , we wrote both facilities to try to find the point of failure to prevent another patient from this experience, due to some lost report, in pain for another month. The Heart Institute seemed somewhat aware of THEIR role in the dropped ball yet both institutions pointed fingers, lacked interest in resolving. Why not more concern over So many disrupted schedules , many medical personnel hours and resources wasted from canceling an 8 hour surgery the night before? Or how about any empathy or apology for the patient and family forced to reschedule, re-test, waiting in pain? We specifically emailed the Largo medical CEO Adam Rudd 3 times between 1/30/22 and 2/1/22, while being assured by his assistant Sandy that he'd respond. We again called and requested he review our communications. Nothing received as of 3/1/22. If you need their services, be sure to navigate every possible point of failure because They don't seem to care. Not even the CEO. read more

I was threatened by a male nurse, that he'd have me moved to downstairs. It was an awful experience. He was angry because he told me it is 2:45 I need to be in bed not playing cards. I reminded him that's one reason I'm here. He was doing the every 15 minutes so he was aware that I did not fallow his comment. I asked for coffee, it's decaf, but ok. At 6 am, I went to the nurses station and asked for coffee. Another nurse seemed like she was going to give me some, when he said no. I became upset, I said, " it's 6 in the morning, lots of people are having coffee at this time." He said I didn't sleep I couldn't have it. "I said it's decaf. " He said I will send you down stairs. I walked away as he was threatening me, I felt like nothing would help so I walked away. As I'm going down the hall to my room, he yelled something about my nasty attitude. I was terrified, he had the authority to do it. I then became hysterical because I didn't want to go. Then I was afraid if I resisted, I'd look irrational and possibly be drugged and taken. It was awful. Every sound coming near my door, I freaked out, I thought it was someone coming for me. How scary it was. When the next shift came, I was In a panic . When they took my vitals, my pulse was 145. Cornel, wanted to know what was going on. I broke down and told him" I was being sent down stairs" . He said " no, he won't let it happen. " He said, " you are a good patient". I'm so thankful for him. He tried to assure me I was safe. I was still near or maybe still in hysteric. He went and got nurse Debbie. She assured me that I was safe. Nothing was going to happen, that I was safe. As hard as they tried to calm me the more I thought I'd be sent there. Maybe if even have meds injected. I was so scared. Every sound coming down the hall, I was sure it was them coming for me. Cornel kept an eye on me assuring me he was there and nothing would happen. It took most of the morning for me to calm down. I took my sister to this Hospital this evening and this place is very filthy. The floor had stuff on it that look like blood the room smelled septic. They took my sister to have a CT scan and a lady come running out of another room to get oxygen they let a guy on life support run out of oxygen. I talk to the head nurse and he had an attitude like my concerns won't justified. No one wants to do there job anymore. I won't ever go here. read more

Sad, and not very patient friendly when you can no longer obtain medical records from the local hospital. Information is needed for an urgent appointment, call numbers provided and medical records outsourced to India. Wait time over 45minutes to speak to a human, then they repeat the script over and over without any hope of resolution. Their response you'll get it when it's processed. Ten business days for a urgent/stat request. I guess continuity of care is not a HCA priority any longer. read more

Gave the wrong meds, didn't give pain meds even though they prescribed, and did not give the referral to home care. A real shit show.
