I bought a Ruger rifle for over $900 at a major retailer during 2020-2021. After a warranty repair, I drove an hour from my new Michigan apartment to the Ohio store I'd visited with my grandfather, Gordy, only to face an unexplained NICS denial. Despite being cleared under identical circumstances just weeks to months prior. The manager Jan and the crew get the benefit of the doubt regarding the denial itself as thats not their call, but their lack of compassion and compensation is unacceptable. They sold my fully paid rifle, kept the entire profit, and offered no percentage of the profit they unfortunatly made from my major misfortune. As a young father needing protection for my newborn son, Roman, losing my life savings and that essential security was devastating. They definetly did not care to keep me protected or retain my business with any urgency or generousity. I expected accountability for this unresolved transaction before the store closed, but I received none. read more

I was fortunate to visit Cleland's while visiting my family. We enjoyed the shooting range . I was pleasantly surprised of the professional set up of both locations and the amazing staff at both stores. Most of the Yelp reviews that I read prior to visiting the stores are from years past and do not reflect the new ownership. I cannot recommend Cleland's more highly. I have avoided clelands for the better part of 20 years. They were the only game in town for decades. It looks like they still think the same way even today. Rude, snobby and trashy. Their retail area looks like a last day garage sale. It appears like an abandoned rummage sale. It looks run down and ready to close. Hopefully years of being a gun store for FUDDS will shut them down Went in to shoot. After about 20 minutes, a charming old lady in a Harley Davidson hoodie stomped in and angrily informed us we were "rapid shooting" She then in a very animated fashion pecked at a sign with her finger and pointed out the 10 point font rule barely noticeable printed in the dimly lit lane. I said oh sorry. But I think she deep down just enjoyed laying down clelands law. She seemed insanely angry at us. Like really mad. I asked how fast we were allowed to shoot. She yelled, one round per second. I said, ok why is that? She yelled at me like I was a 9 year old, because its our rule! I think she was so angry with us because we must have interrupted her smoke break. It was almost comical because it was like she was infuriated with us. I hope this place gets shut down due to the increasing customer satisfaction based shooting sports and retail operations located in NW Ohio. I hope what ever made that old lady in the Harley hoodie was so angry, she finds peace even if it is another cigarette Goodbye FUDD guns. I will preface my review saying that I have bought several firearms here over the course of nearly 25 years, but today's experience was woefully short of why I typically favor local gun shops. The young and inexperienced salesmen behind the counter was not only wrong but, belligerent, and condescending. My advice to you, the reader, is too seek other places to support. If I'm considering the purchase of a $1,700 used handgun you better bet I want to turn the wheel on that revolver, not recklessly, but with purpose and intent. I want to know that gun locks up properly and consistently. I'm not scratching the cylinder, I'm listening to the clicks, I feeling the movement of the gun. I want to know what I'm buying. My suggestion to the new owners; bring back the knowledgeable staff that used to work for the previous owners and get rid of the kids you have working behind the counter. It doesn't take 4 kids behind two small gun cases to sell firearms. Margins aren't so thin you have to skimp on an intelligible sales force. You lost a long time customer and a sale today. read more

Clelands is THE BEST! They are so friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions and made me feel extremely comfortable. They helped me figure out exactly what firearm I was comfortable with. This place has a terrible reputation among Toledo area target shooters, and it's well earned. It's a well maintained and nice indoor range and store, and even includes an indoor archery range. However, it's overpriced on everything from range time to guns and cleaning kits. Worse yet, the staff have been consistently rude and lack any customer service. And to top it off they are very restrictive of what's allowed on their range (You better not rapid fire a couple of rounds unless you wanna be thrown out). Trust me when I say your better off going to Shooters of Maumee, who have a nice indoor rifle/pistol range plus plenty of rentals. Or Toledo Trap and Skeet, which has two indoor pistol lanes in addition to the outdoor shotgun range. If I could give this review negative stars I would without hesitation. read more

If you want bargain basement pricing and big box customer service, then go somewhere else. Cleland's offers personalized advice and service. It is a family run business and most members of the family are experts in their field. They are well respected in this area - for many good reasons. As a never-before gun owner a few years back, I relied on them to guide me to the firearm best suited to me and my needs. I was very pleased with the process. They also offer many different classes in house - firearms for beginners, advanced, non-lethal defense, CCW. Nice new range...gets super busy. Good supply of guns available for rent if needed. Staff was ok..not overly friendly, just enough to get you in and out. FYI Range does not let you use .454 or .50 cal weapons. A bit pricey as well but if you grab a Groupon it's saves you a ton. read more

Too many old and whiney reviews. Cleland's is no more expensive than any other small shop. The big stores like Cabela's( who were recently bought out by Bass Pro),Bass Pro itself and the now defunct Gander Mountain charge just as much if not more than Clelands for their firearms. No bargains there... As for service..gunsmith Chad is excellent at his job. Range prices are cheaper than Shooters of Maumee and the range is clean and usually not over crowded. It's only drawback is lack of space to allow longarms of a caliber larger than 22 long rifle. Add that's it's conveniently located for shooters west of Toledo. read more

i have had a team in the winter pistol league for the past three years, always paid my money in mid December. I called on December 14th this year and paid for my entire team via credit card. received a call back about a week prior to the league starting on January 14th and was told that there was no room on the league for that night. I advised that this was the only night we could participate and that I was not happy, but would have to take a pass and have my money returned. to this date 2/7/19 I am still out $540 and I have called at least 3 times to Jan who has said each time that she has credited it back to me. I have just now gone to my visa card provider and filed a dispute. First of all what league, golf, bowling, or pistol has anyone ever participated in where you weren't automatically given a spot the following year, particularly when you call them a month in advance and pay your league fees. instead these knuckleheads were obviously signing up newbies without giving any consideration to the already established league members. WHO DOES THAT? and to add insult to injury they are seemingly trying to stiff me out of $540. I would seriously question doing business with an organization such as this. read more

I was installing a new freefloat handguard on my AR and my A2 front sight post was stuck on my rifle, so I decided to bring it in to the gunsmith and just have the whole thing attached. The told me it would be $60. I come back a couple days later and they told me that the new price was $85. I get home and start to attach my MLok and foregrip on the rail, but the barrel nut comes loose and spins the handguard 90°, bending my gas tube. Turns out, the barrel nut wasn't attached on there more than hand tight. Really glad I didn't have a chance to go to the range yet. Now my rifle is non-functional til I get the new tube in, and I have to buy the equipment to do it myself. 2 Stars because they've got a good selection of firearms and the staff is friendly... but that was a mistake that could've hurt me or people around me. I earlier wrote a review, explaining why I like this business. They have a great, friendly staff, knowledgeable in their craft, and helpful in any way. They have serviced many of my handguns, rifles, and always seem to have the Ammo and hand loading supplies I need. At my request, I asked to have an old beater of a Winchester 30/06, to be re-barreled to the 338/06. It is the most accurate Rifle I have ever owned. Mr. Cleland did the work himself, and he did a fantastic job. The reason I am reposting, I didn't see the stars at the top and as a result, only gave them two stars and not the five they so richly deserve. So I came back to correct my mistake. I read some of the negative reviews and that was not my experience at all. I am a collector of Colt Snake guns. Colt came out with a Colt Cobra and collectors are scrambling to get them. I have my name on several waiting lists in the NW Ohio area in hopes of grabbing one. Out of all of them, Cleland's called me first. I couldn't get there right away and they even held it for me for a few days. I have yet to hear from the other gun stores that the new Colt has even hit the shelves. I have been going to Clelands for several years now. And have always had good experiences. Also have made several purchases at reasonable prices. They even searched the area extensively for a new firearm I wanted, above and beyond what was expected. On ordered items, the wait for delivery was short. The employees may have changed over the years, but I have never met anyone that was not knowledgeable and friendly. As for the pistol range, it is clean and uncluttered. The range attendants make safety their main consideration, which is much appreciated by all those who like a relaxed atmosphere when target shooting. My son and I go regularly and feel safe enough to bring my grandson, who has become quite a marksman and often amazes our fellow shooters. To sum up, the friendly associates and pistol range make Clelands a fun place to spend a couple of hours with family and friends if nothing more than to just browse and check out the diverse selection of firearms. read more

After visiting the store a couple times in the past I was pleasantly surprised by my last visit in November. From what I understand it is under new ownership and while I have read the bad reviews about customer service I can tell you that I was greeted 10 steps in the door and the guy who helped me was extremely knowledgeable. I've priced the cost of shooting ranges in the area and I'm not sure why others have said that they are expensive but $15 for a half hour without a way in my opinion is pretty cheap.They are a small mom and pop shop so I wouldn't expect big box, rock-bottom prices. I'd rather pay a bit more to keep the brick and mortar in business. read more

I needed my gun bore sighted so I called Clelands they told me they closed at 6,I called him at 4 & it's about an hour drive for me. He didn't bother to tell me that he leaves at 5 so when I got there he was already gone.I left my gun there for them to work on only to return the next afternoon to find out the man never even looked at it.On the phone he quoted $20-30.. all of a sudden it goes up to $80-$85."because he doesn't work for free"so that's labor & parts.This is the second time I have been there & treated rudely . Avoid Clelands. I have been to Clelands several times for different things. The first few times were just to use the range. Then I had a set of night sights to have installed on a Glock pistol. I called for a quote and they stated "$20" . Well after having them install the sights the price majically jumped to $30, guess pricing depends on who you ask. On top of the jump in price they scratched the slide of the pistol while installing the sights. Keep in mind this pistol was new, never fired, barely pulled from the box when I took it to them. I brought the scratch to their attention and was told "We didn't do that you are lying". Not to mention they tried to steal the factory box that I brought the with the pistol in it. Saying "You didn't bring this in a box", to me saying "Really, I just carried a pistol in my hand and noone thought anything bad was going to happen?. Then the person went into the backroom and got my box. I've been back to check prices on items only to realize there is never a good deal to be had at Clelands. ADCO or even Gander Mtn. have better prices in the area. read more

As I'm sure many before me have I also was treated very rudely @ Cleveland's Outdoor World. A previous yelp was so on par with my personal experience that it was almost scary. When commenting on a particular firearm with a fellow customer one of the employees apparently didn't much care for my opinion and loudly and openly began to berate me claiming I clearly didn't know much about firearms otherwise I never would've made such a comment in his store. He went on to say that such comments might cost him sales in the future. Perhaps this gentleman suffers from accute confusion. You see I spent 4yrs., 1995-late1999 in the Army. I'm actually very familiar with firearms. I went on to say that his lack of respect for his customers would probably end up costing him far more than my firearm opinions and preferences. It was a case of an (A,B conversation C your way out of it.) I take no pleasure in writing this but facts are facts and when you have spent thousands of dollars in a particular place you expect a certain level of service & respect. The Little old lady that waited on me has no clue what she is doing .I bought a small hand gun at a on line auction they said I need a FFL to send them a E-mail so I stopped there .I asked lady is there any fees she said NO when I picked it up tonight (was told it was not even save for firing it is an 1921 32 ca.) she took 2 hours doing paper work had no idea what she was doing and should not even be working there she then told me there was a 50.00 transferring fee for a gun that cost me 50.00 and was shipped USPO .I told them to keep it and then was threatened with a call to the ATF and the cops it would be treated like theft I paid the 50.00 and left .But you would think such a reputable place would of worked with me .I hope the owners read this .So to all if you want to be ripped off this is the place to go. read more

They had my bow for 3 weeks and it still is not right. They gave no reason for the excessive time. I dropped off my bow to have it looked over and serviced. I got notified a week and a half later that it needed a new string and cables. I agreed and did not hear anything for some time. My wife asked them when it would be done one night when our kids were in an archery class on a Thursday. One of the employees came to me and asked what colors I wanted. He said that he would have it done by the weekend, or at the very least, the next time we brought our kids to shoot. We took the kids to a Monday night class and it still was not done. I was told that it would be done the next day. I called before leaving work and was told that it would be done by 6PM. I arrived and found that it still was not done. I waited over an hour and a half for him to complete the string and get it on the bow. During this time I asked if it is normal for this type of maintenance to take 3 weeks. He said no. No other explanations or reasons were given. At this point I just wanted to leave. He let me shoot the bow and asked if I wanted him to move the peep sight. I told him no because I was tired of being there. Keep in mind that I had already bought a bow from them for my son and was taking my kids there to shoot. We had also expressed interest in buying 2 more bows. Outside of Mrs. Cleland, we felt unwelcomed and like we were being a burden by being there. I am not sure what kind of issues they are facing. What a mess. I went in there and bought a gun several weeks ago and everythin was fine. Then it happen, I went in a couple of days ago to buy amo for the same gun and was told I could buy only one box! What the hell? If I'd known that I would have never bought that gun from them. I've done business with them since Gary started selling guns from his garage at his home. The place has gone to hell. Went there to buy ammo for an old american bulldog pistol. "Better not shoot that" they kept telling me. Then they made the assumption that some took advantage of me. My intentions were to refurbish it an use it for display, however the fat people behind the counter woouldn't shut their yappers long enough for me to finish. Before that encounter ( before their building burned down, enough said there) they were rude and nasty with customers and seemed impacient. Their inventory is limited and would recoment all people to go to Gander mountain. They are nicer there. read more

Horrible service! I dropped a dozen of arrows off to be refletched. It took them 10 business days in total, which isn't my issue because I understand that is close to hunting season. I've gone out there 3 times now to pick up my arrows. The first time I called to confirm that my arrows were done and a female tell me they were, when I got out there they were not ready. The second time I went out there arrows were done however when I got home I realize that they had only given me ten out of my twelve arrows. I called them to explain that they left two of my arrows behind and the gentleman that runs the archery department confirmed that they were there at thr store in an arrow jig and that I could come pick them up at my earliest convenience. I explained to the gentleman that I lived over a half an hour one way away from his store and I best he could say was sorry. I was offered no discount or store credit. I WILL NOT be returning or giving them any of my business nor will you get any referral from me. read more

I have spent alot in the past at this store, and the store that burned down. I always went because i honestly didnt know any better. They are the most over priced, rudest employees of any outdoor store in the area. If you look for alternative outdoor stores for firearms sales (there are several), they are all the same price or cheaper. Same goes for archery equipment and shooting ranges. Ive never walked into BassPro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, or any of the shooting ranges, and immediately been treated rudely. If your range is open till 7pm and i walk in at 630pm, telling me its to late to use the range with a terrible attitude has lost you a life long (minimum $2000 @ year) customer. Not my first case of being treated with a poor attitude either, just the latest. If you expect to stay in business without the "unfortunate" fire, bailing you out, hire some employees who are under 50 years old who chase kids from their yard and/or some that appreciate people who are willing to give you thousands of their hard earned dollars. Not sure why this rating is so low on yelp. I felt the need to share my good experiences through the years with Cleland's because it seems that more unhappy customers talk than the happy ones. I worked here in high school 10+ years ago. I can credit most of my core skills from the ability to learn a wide range of things from basic computer skills through navigating a diverse group of clientele. The owners, Theresa and Gary treat you like family whether it's in your blood or not. When I moved on from Cleland's to get closer to my goal, the entire Cleland's team was genuinely happy for me. I have continued to be a loyal customer because there heart is in the business and they only sell products that they believe in. They are much more interested in a good product and happy customer than making an extra buck off of cheap products. The two biggest things that set them apart from gander, cabelas, or bass pro is their expertise combined with knowledge of the outdoor world and the sense of family that only a local family owned business can give. read more
