Doctor Clement Chow has recently treated me for Retinal Detachment, so I have a fair bit of recent experiences. Let me start off by saying, that Doctor Chow is very nice, easy going, and he is extremely competent in this abilities. He has the latest technology, he has multiple offices, and all of my interactions with him have been very positive. He is very firmly in command in the operating room, I was always extremely comfortable with his technical abilities, attention to detail, and professionalism. He is hands down, a great Doctor, and fantastic at what he does. I would imagine he was at the top of his class(s), I would bet money on that. I always felt comfortable with Dr Chow right from the beginning, and that feeling was only reinforced stronger with each visit. Flew into the room, didn't even look at me but went right to the computer, said "you don't have wet macular" and that was that. I tried to ask questions but his responses were perfunctory. I can't evaluate Dr. Chow's professional skills, but for sure this doctor doesn't care about his patients and reputation. I had a referral from my primary care physician to see Dr. Chow and scheduled an appointment a month ahead. I took a day off because I work at school and this was the only option for me to see the doctor. In the morning of the day of my appointment I got a call from Dr. Chow's office. I was told that the doctor couldn't see me because of some discrepancy on the referral. I asked the lady who called me to talk to the doctor again and take me as an exception considering the unusual circumstances. She promised to get back to me back soon. When she called me back, she said that the doctor refused to see me. As a result , I didn't see a doctor and waisted a sick day at school. Dr. Clement Chow is such a wonderful doctor. You can just tell from his tone of voice that he radiates with passion for his work. He makes me feel very reassured and he is especially thorough with his examinations. If he feels the need to have an additional test to aid with his diagnosis, he is quick to act on it. Dr. Chow diagnosed me quickly and compassionately at this office, then later scheduled my treatments closer to my home. I found his explanations were very clear and I understood immediately from his description of my blind-spot and what it meant that I was facing a wet-macular generation episode that required comparatively aggressive treatment to be sure would not permanently damage my eyes any worse than the initial symptoms had. My wife had floaters on both eyes. These floaters had bothered her for many years. Both her cataract ophthalmologist and optometrist recommended Dr. Clement Chow. Dr. Chow carefully examined my wife's eyes with advanced equipment and confirmed vitrectomy could remove her eye floaters. Dr. Clement Chow was very warm, very patient with my wife's questions and concerns before the surgery that made my wife relaxed. During vitrectomy of both eyes Dr. Chow also repaired retina detachment that solved my wife's existing retina detaching problems. The surgery was smooth, his team is highly efficient. After surgery on both eyes, she had no pain, nor any complications, recovery was fast. My wife who is 60 said she hasn't seen so clearly since she was a young girl!! My boyfriend and I were referred to Dr. Chow by our optometrist as he was having great difficulty with his sight on his right eye. To complicate matters, he did not have insurance. We made an initial appointment to the Disalvo office in San Jose with Dr. Chow. We were very anxious given the condition of his right eye and the fact that he had no insurance. We talked with Dr. Chow and explained his condition and situation. After extensive testing/examination, Dr. Chow very patiently listened and took the time and explained to us his diagnosis, his treatment and payment options which put us at ease and gave us a sense that we could trust him. Due to Covid, we had an online appointment with Dr. Chow for my daughter who had a red eye. Dr. Chow was very patient and explained the possible causes. You can tell he is passionate doctor. I saw Dr. Chow for the first time a few months ago. Because I am young and healthy, I was dumfounded to hear about the diagnosis and the need for surgery. Needless to say, Dr. Chow was so kind, professional and friendly to explain everything and answer all my questions. He made sure I felt calm and collected before walking out of his office. My case was complicated because I am pregnant. He weighed benefits vs. risks of surgery with me and he researched/collaborated with his colleagues to make sure I would get the safest and best care possible. I just had my lasik surgery done at the end of 2018. I was recommended here to see Dr. Clement Chow to further enhance my eye before the surgery. I went ahead and did the surgery that will thickens my eyeball at some thin spots. I paid the bill for the surgery and everything and he said I should make an appointment for a check up after 90 days. I did that thinking it was a free check up, because I understand Doctors would like to see how their patients are healing. Overall experience, I am happy with the results and how Dr. Clement Chow took his time to explain to me the conditions of my eyes and how he plans to enhance it. I just hope that his staff would be more thorough with their clients and be upfront about billing their patients for a ''check up''. Be careful of this office when you go get anything done here. Especially if you have good insurance. Their check ups are not free after the procedures. They will bill your insurance with the pictures they take from your check up appointments and make you pay another bill. I cancelled my next year ''check up'' appointment with them because I know I will shell out more money for nothing. Will not be coming back. read more

I began seeing Doctor Chow two and a half years ago in Watsonville when I was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration. Though I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos, I chose him from among others because he was the only one available on short notice. I am now totally willing to drive the distance to see doctor Chow. Doctor chow is very personable, passionate, upbeat, knowledgeable, caring, unintimidating and practical. He fosters a sense of trust in him. I receive an eye injection from Doctor Chow every few weeks. Because my eyes are very sensitive, Doctor Chow uses lidocaine to numb my eye before the injection. He is careful to wait until the lidocaine takes effect. There were 2 times in the last couple of years when, for various reasons, I had to see another doctor from Retinal Diagnostics. One was in a location which was much closer and I considered changing doctors because of the shorter distance. I requested the lidocaine from him but he did not want to use it and I almost jumped out of my chair when I received the injection. The other doctor used the lidocaine but did not wait long enough for it to take full effect. It made a huge difference. Both of these people seemed like excellent doctors who would get the job done but I did not feel the same level of interest in me. When I receive the injections from doctor chow I never feel anything at all, either from the lidocaine injection or the medication injection. Doctor Chow is so easy to talk to and we discuss what direction to take. It is like having a close friend helping you. I hope I never lose Doctor Chow. My eyes are important to me and I would be fearful to try someone else. read more

I was referred to Retinal Diagnostics by my Ophthalmologist for a detached retina. Dr Chow was on call and that is who I went to see. He told me I was a perfect candidate for reattachment if the retina with a procedure using a gas bubble because of where the detachment in my eye was located. (I was never told anything about not being able to see again or that there were things that could go wrong) He scheduled my procedure for the next day because he was leaving on vacation and would schedule my follow up appointment with another doctor on staff. Any information regarding after care I had to ask the assistants at the time of the procedure he gave me no instructions other than to keep my head tilted forward and to the right for two days. Eye drops were given by the very kind doctor on staff. Several visits after the procedure I went back to Dr Chow because I couldn't see! Oh let me take that back, with my glass on, I could barely make out the E on the eye chart and I could see color and shapes, even though it was different than my other eye. its almost like looking through 3D glasses all the time. I dizzy, nauseas, and headachy almost all the time.To read or drive I have to close one eye. (Mostly everything I see is a swirling mess) When I expressed my concerns to Dr Chow he became (in my opinion) very indignant and narcissistic. He told me I could black out the lens of my glasses or tape my eye shut and go on. He did his job which was to reattach my retina! Needless to say I was more than shocked at his arrogance and lack of compassion. Yes he reattached my retina but it would be nice to be able to see or at least been informed of all the things that could go wrong and not be kept in the dark. (pun intended) read more
