I don't think I've ever wanted to get on a plane so badly and go...literally anywhere. It's been a long 2020 without any international air travel, so much so that digging through review drafts is about as close as I'm getting to Italy, at least for another 4-6 months. But don't worry, even though it's been some time since our trip, I took good notes. Yes, it's kinda touristy here. But, touristy area aside, the food was good. Not the best we had in Rome, but we still very much enjoyed our dinner. We both had some a red sauce-based pasta, and split a light salad to start. Plus bread, because there's always bread. The pasta was nicely al dente and both sauces were great. The red wine was generally inexpensive and flowed as fast as I could pour it, but I would say the star of the night was the tiramisu. It was truly excellent. Thick and creamy and that amazing shade of yellow...I've never found tiramisu like this outside of Italy. The food is great, but the solid 4-stars is a reflection of the atmosphere. Dining outside in warm weather in a bustling city enjoying the nightlife thousands of miles from home...it really doesn't get much better than that. read more

Please do yourself a favor and avoid this kind of restaurant in a tourist city like Rome. It's so common in Italy to have people who beg you to sit down at their restaurant and this was the case at this place. Very annoying issue across Italy it seems. The real problem with Clemente alla Maddalena lies in its prices and and inauthenticity. It's tourist trap food. Expect to pay at least €10 per plate if you want an entree, and the prices only go up from their. I tried to not spend a ton of money on my meal, so I ordered the fried caciocavallo. It cost €5 and please, take a look at what I received. Wilted lettuce, and maybe 100 grams of cheese. RIP-OFF. Even more price offensive were other dishes ordered to my table. The main courses of pasta were so small and cost about €15 each. Save yourself the hassle. Find a mom and pop trattoria or buy half a kilo of prosciutto di Parma, some fresh mozzarella, and freshly baked Roman bread. Now that would be worth the time. read more

This was my first meal in Italy and honestly nothing else I've eaten has compared. I came here with a group of about 15 after walking through the pantheon and trevi fountain. We did not have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us inside by quickly rearranging the tables and chairs. The atmosphere was so cozy and romantic it felt like a very authentic Italian experience. Our server was very attentive and spoke English while also helping us with our Italian. We ordered water and focaccia to start which was more like a pita bread than the soft thick focaccia that I am used to in the states. I then ordered the pasta carbonara with the intention of trying the authentic version so that my next time cooking it at home would be more successful. Yelpers, it was AMAZING! Homemade pasta, fresh herbs, crunchy pancetta, thick and creamy sauce. It was everything I didn't even know I wanted. I would eat here every night to try the entire menu because the meals that the rest of the people in my group tried, looked delicious too. My only regret with the restaurant is that I was too full for dessert but I will be back and will most definitely have positive things to say about that too. My waitress was Ledia (Lydia?) please ask for her. I was sent here by a friend and he told me to ask for a w alter who wasn't available. Ledia said don't worry I will take care of you and she really impressed me with her professionalism and welcoming presence I spent my birthday dinner here and the service was impeccable. The food was well done and not eye gouging prices. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching as we ate. If you go to Rome you must come here. This place is as good as it gets for Italy! One thing there is plenty of in Italy is Italian food. Some are good and some are bad, but Ristorante Clemente Alla Maddalena is one of the best in Rome! We had been recommended to this place by our concierge at the Hotel Cavalier and were very pleased with the recommendation. Everything from the service, the atmosphere, and especially the food was spectacular! You can't go wrong here. This was our last meal on a 19 day vacation and it was exactly what I envisioned. This restaurant sits on a beautiful piazza, with a very ornate church directly across from it. We sat outside and it was under an umbrella with romantic lighting. It seems to be the most upscale of the restaurants on this piazza and an opera street singer even stopped by to provide wonderful entertainment. While I enjoyed the opera singer, I could have done without the man trying to sell singing cats and the ever present rose men. The food was great and very reasonable. Oddly enough the thing I remember most is the balsamic vinegar, which was the best I had ever tasted in my life. Although I tried to resist I was basically drinking it off of a spoon. Wine by the bottle is very affordable however we did two glasses of wine. I was surprised that they were completely out of the super Tuscan... how are you out of a super Tuscan in Italy?!?! The recommended wine we ended up with was good. The ambience is really what did it for me and would recommend a very Roman evening here... and get the meatballs! read more

Came here for dinner on Tuesday night with a group consisting of 5 couples. On recommendation from our hotel. Overall food for 5-6 in our party was terrible. My wife had a pasta dish with lobster. 1/2 of lobster came with fish. NO meat! Just basically the shell. Wait staff was hard to pin down and focus on our service timely. Located in a very touristy but still pretty square near the Pantheon, sit outside if the weather is nice and take in the hustle and bustle of Rome in the evening. Being around the corner from the Pantheon, it might come across as one those tourist traps. That's partially right with people trying to sell us their tourist crap through most of our meal. The caprese salad and salmon tartare were a bad start, this place was heading for a 1 or 2. The dinner was resurrected to a "low" 4 by four things: a quality bottle of Sangiovese with strong earthy notes, a hand made pasta with a Parmesan/pepper cream sauce that was flavorful but not overpowering, braised veal cheek, and a tiramisu that was served more like a mousse. Just made it to four stars in our book, and solid way to start our trip! read more

My son was really hungry and basically we chose this place because he did not want to take one more step. I thought it would be too touristy. But I really enjoyed our dinner there . We had two different kind of fish dinners and both were tasty. My son had pizza and that was very good also. The staff was great! Very attentive and helpful. We had the house wine it was very good. I was told it came from the owners vineyard. We also enjoyed the desserts. Did not pick the typical tiramisu or panna cotta. Just fresh berries and great wild cherry tart. I rally can't say anything negative, we were totally happy with everything. I have had enough bad meals in Italy but this definitely was NOT one of them. read more
