Being that I was attending a conference nearby, this was the closest Metro stop for me to take to get to where I was going. I really need to get out more and discover more of DC. Maybe I'll try to use every Metro station to do this. Woodley Park services the neighborhood namesake and Adams Morgan. It is the best station to utilize if you find yourself going to the Zoo. But prepare yourself for a walk. Being on the Red Line you are well connected and can get anywhere you need to. The station itself is fairly deep underground. Around 150 feet below the surface you will find yourself on the typical DC platform. What is crazy here is the long escalator that takes you to another escalator to reach street level. I had wondered why so many people were opting for the elevator here. I now know why. If you are up for it, you are more than welcome to climb the escalator, but you will definitely be tired by the time you are all the way up. Trains are scheduled regularly. Decently maintained.

The station itself is about as clean as you can expect for a busy commuter hub, and I've always found it well-maintained. There are plenty of bus options right outside, which makes transfers pretty easy. When school's in session, it does get more crowded with students, but it's still manageable. I guess the customer who rides metro regular really gets screwed as driving downtown is horrific by itself. The ads all tell us the train is easier with the endless delays, filthy cars and lack of any management in stations. I did pick up an idea if you don't want to pay. I watched this one go by while the dude in the little hut is playing in his phone. A woman has a small child plus a stroller. She sends the kid through the end turnstile which opens when the kid touches the card to the card reader. She walks on through with the stroller and pays nothing (aside from the kid). It's genius. Maybe Elmo is available to be hired.

Having an evening to myself is a rarity, I wanted to take advantage of that while I could. I made a mental note to stop here on my way home so I didn't have to go out over the weekend and knock out some errands. I got off at this station and the fun began. I, like most people, went with the flow of people to get out of this station. Except when I came to the fork in the road for this station. I had no idea which way to go as the signs weren't all that clear what was where. I made my way up to street level and found I was on the opposite side of where I wanted to be. I could have easily gone back down into the station and gone the opposite way, but it is what it is. Making my way back onto the train after completing my tasks wasn't horrible. Found my way to the entrance with ease, platform was easy to get to, trains are frequent. And after all that, I could see why it is always so busy at this station. I am sure this can be a nightmare during the morning rush as it was for the afternoon rush.

Even that isn't that great. You can find a few places to eat and shop. It serves the Green and Yellow Lines. It doesn't have all that much interesting around like any museums. This means it's usually not crowded, which is one good thing. It looks mostly like a boring station. There's a few cool murals though. It doesn't have that much else interesting to look at. The station isn't that clean, but it's not as bad as it could get. It just basically has one exit. This can take you to either side of the street. You can find a few places to eat, but these are mostly chain restaurants.

That's probably more helpful than the staff there. What do they do exactly? And how about that brutalist architecture when you get out? It's beautiful in its own, drab, gray way--like lots of other stations, so I guess it isn't its own. But it has a cool mural! And it's less crowded than the Columbia Heights station. And I'd be remiss not to mention how it's designed so you can exit in either side of Georgia Ave. What's not to like about that? You know what it would be great? If people could sell stuff down there. Let's get a pupusa stall down there. Or maybe some coffee and donuts. Heck, rent out space down there to anyone and use the revenue to lower Metro fares. First-time visitor to DC a few weeks ago. My first-ever metro ride was from the King Street station…read morein Alexandria to Federal Triangle. The ride was a breeze and the station was super clean. What was absolutely mind-blowing, though, was the architecture of the buildings right outside of the station exit, and along the couple-of-blocks walk to the White House. Oh my gosh, absolutely stunning. I swear I stood there, right outside the station, and took photos of the building with the clock tower for five or ten whole minutes like a weirdo. I was in such awe!! I'd never hesitate to come through this station in the future.

It's not usually as crowded as Smithsonian (for tourists) or Metro Center (for office drones) so its a less crowded downtown alternative to Metro Center. There's also a decent coffee shop in the Reagan Building plaza right outside the station. The station isn't huge but it's a good alternative if you're going to the Mall of downtown.

Also it's the stop for Catholic University of America. The Union Market is close too. Cleaner than many stations are. It serves the Red Line. The reason for it being cleaner is that it's outdoors. Often there's a good breeze. This also eliminates the piss smell. Area around it is pretty good. The Union Market is pretty close by here. It has a location in an improving area. Lots of new businesses are coming. This mostly is pretty safe.
