To me, as well, this feels like that cleanest of all the stations I have experienced. With it being one of the busiest that is kind of impressive. I really like that once you do exit the station you are right in the middle of everything outside. There is so much to do that this station almost feels like a destination by itself. Knowing that it is only the Red Line might have a bit in making this feel like it is a well run station. There really isn't any transferring here. Dupont Circle is either your destination or starting point. No need to have to run to catch a connection, just go about your business and be on your way.

But prepare yourself for a walk. Being on the Red Line you are well connected and can get anywhere you need to. The station itself is fairly deep underground. Around 150 feet below the surface you will find yourself on the typical DC platform. What is crazy here is the long escalator that takes you to another escalator to reach street level. I had wondered why so many people were opting for the elevator here. I now know why. If you are up for it, you are more than welcome to climb the escalator, but you will definitely be tired by the time you are all the way up. Trains are scheduled regularly. Decently maintained.

But once that charm wears off, you see this place for what it is. Wheaton is unique in terms that this place connects to the mall, but only after you have to go on a scavenger hunt...through a parking garage. Is it sketchy? Yes. Is it worth not having to sit through traffic, find a parking spot and do that in reverse? Also yes. The usefulness of this station is apparent. However, I feel like it is underutilized. Especially with the mall dwindling, which is a surprise I think. Anyway, point being, it's convenient, connected, and serves its purpose.

Riding a bus is never joyful, but to have to take the bus for nearly an hour makes it less joyful. The station itself is fine, when you just view it as a station and nothing else. But when you actually use the entirety of the station, i.e., transfer, bus, walk from, there is no way to actually like this station. If you happen to have to transfer here, it's not bad, but if you want to catch one of the many buses here, prepare yourself to battle to get onto the bus. Or, just hope and pray that the bus will show up at a scheduled time. There was one day where I had to wait for over an hour and a half for a bus to come. No reason given, employees working the bus bays didn't care. In fact, one bus going my way was told to switch the line they were running to another one to accommodate backups. Mind you, there was a major backup for the line I needed. Compound that with the fact that when it downpours, only a portion of the bus bays are covered. So when it does rain, there is major overcrowding to keep from getting wet. Or you just suck it up, get drenched, and hope that your bus shows up shortly. Which was me one day. Flying by here on the train or having to stop at the station every so often is fine. But if I never have to actually use this physical station, I am fine by that.

You can preload your metro card and you can go anywhere in Washington DC for about $2-$4. To get to the orange, blue, or silver lines, take the Glenmont train to the Metro Center Station and go down one level. To get to the green and yellow lines, take the Glenmont train to the Gallery Place Station. The Farragut N. station is very clean, modern, and has a high sense of safety as there is a Metro police officer in the station. A super-great value and extremely efficient. You scan your preloaded card on the way in (turnstile) and on the way out of your destination station's turnstile. It automatically deducts the amount of the trip from your balance. We preloaded about $15 each and had more than enough of a balance to get us through three days. Remember not to preload too much money as you'll have that balance for your next trip to DC. Really easy and a convenient and safe, low-cost means of travel.

While a few things have changed my honey just took the same train to Providence, RI and will be taking the train back to NOLA again this weekend. We do love to take the train and will likely make another trip to see our kids in Pittsburgh later this year. So here is the review from my last train trip as was written in real-time. The company has 20,000 employees and had $2.88 billion in revenue in 2012. So far the highlight of my tŕip was at breakfast. Half way through taking our order I noticed our server's name tag was hidden by his apron & I asked him what his name is. My sweetheart chimed in with "his name isn't important" with a laugh as he wrestled his name tag out. I didn't know what to say to that, nor apparently did he because he didn't reply at all. I noticed it was Carl and I called him by name for the remainder of breakfast. I laughed at my wife because even though she was trying to the facilitate the process of clearing the isle, for others to get by, it just sounded messed up LOL We're somewhere north of Hotlanta on our way to Gastonia, NC tonight (my old stomping grounds) and DC in the morning and we're nestled in our beds & our choo choo ride has been delightful thus far. Boarded at Union Passenger station in Nawlins at 7am after 30 minutes in the Magnoloa room lounge with water, coffee, muffins and comfy seats. We boarded early at 6:25am & got settled in our little room before departing promptly at 7am. All of the large berths were already reserved, so we had to go with the roomette. The room is very small with 2 seats facing one another that folds down into a bed and a larger bunk above that slides down into place abive. There's a toilet that doubles as a seat & fold up sink that has hot & cold water as well as ice water. Much like smaller boats they utilize every square inch of space. There's a thermostat for the AC, lots of light controls an intercom for the Porter, (our guy Carl will be with us to DC, nice guy), a couple electrical outlets and big windows for the scenery. You can pull the curtains on the door and outer windows and it's private & pretty dark dark even facing the sun. If you want a shower there is a dedicated shower room with lots of fluffy towels and toiletries, it's pretty nice & located in the sleeper cars. The meals are included with all sleeper tickets so we were off to breakfast. We has 3 egg omelettes with cheese & veggies, I had sausage, wife had bacon, potatoes & croissant. I was extra hungry after the French foo foo dinner last night so I added pancakes & all topped off with OJ & Dunkin coffee, nice. Our guy Gary, in the dining car, will be with us to DC as well & he's extra sharp & very nice) For lunch we both had house salads & cheeseburgers with Kettle chips & pickle finished off with a strawberry topped cheesecake & a special pecan topped chocolate & caramel cake. Dinner was extra special because I had the flat iron steak with large lump crabcake while my sweetheart had the grilled salmon and we both had baked potatoes and mushroom green beans. We finished this off with strawberry cheesecake & fresh coffee. Yes this is a lot of food, especially for us since we normally only have two meals a day, but the food is very good and it's very pleasant in the dining car. After dinner we went back to our room to read and watch the night lights. Carl showed up at 9:45pm to offer to setup our beds, freshen the linens and prepare our little space for the night. We headed for the lounge which has snacks and a full bar. Yuengling for my honey & ginger ale for me. I just started this review when Carl showed up to give us the thumbs up signaling our room was ready. So it's nice & dark, the wonderful swaying of the speeding train and the low rumble of the wheels rolling along the tracks. It's otherwise very quiet and quite peaceful so I will end this review for now. I've set my alarm so I can get a shower and lots of coffee before breakfast. (there's a coffee pot with ice & bottled water just outside our door, nice!) Bottom line: Choo choo rides are awesome, who needs the hassle, stress & strain of 20+ hours of driving? It's totally anecdotal, but it just seem to flow better. Security at DCA tends to be smoother than other airports possibly due to its smaller size and the high number of frequent fliers so don't discount the South Tier however. The TSA agents are efficient, and the setup was designed after 9/11, so it's built to accommodate large numbers of people unlike the security areas at a lot of other airports. I rarely am in line for more than 5 minutes (I have PreCheck), they also have Clear lanes for those who have joined that program. Read th signs on the lanes (General boarding, PreCheck, or Clear. They often leave it up to people to read the signs and the TSA agents will kick you right back to the end of the line if you get in the PreCheck line without actually having PreCheck.

I say you should jump at the chance to pay less than $60 to get from IAD back to Arlington. Like it's an honor to fork over your hard earned cash because the voice in the ceiling told you they said it was OK. What a load of crap.
