I would give no stars if I could. This is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I have basically been out of my apartment for over a month, essentially not using any power. My bill was $488. I called and was put on hold for an hour and ultimately hung up. I have been hung up on by the customer service team here in the past when I had a simple question on what was explained to me. This company should have gone out of business years ago. I know 0 people who have had a good experience, but we are faced to use them due to the buildings we live in. I am never one to wish ill-will on a local company, but Cleveland Public Power is hands down, the biggest piece of shit company. I cannot wait to move so I never have to use CPP again. I submitted a request to transfer my service (from one apartment to another - same address, just different unit). I did this on-line through their Transfer Request form. I did this at the beginning of November. It is now January 6th, and I STILL have yet to receive my new bill or see the changed reflected on my account. I have called their customer service department 3 times and each time, I have waited for over one hour with NO ONE answered my call. I have submitted numerous requests through my account portal and their website; still, no one has got back to me. I assume either 1) my service will be shut off or 2) I will be hit with a massive bill in a month or two whenever they decide to get back to me. Today is January 5, 2026. Over the weekend, I noticed my account was blocked, and I was told to call CPP to unlock it. I started calling at 9:30 am; it is 12 pm now, and no one is picking up. I have to plug my iPhone in because the battery is running low; I'm still waiting. I guess they are all still on vacation with no one to pick up calls. This power company is terrible! read more

Nothing surprising with one star knowing that Cleveland Public Power is The Absolute Worst managed organization under the sun. They never stop from surprising me haha. Today, my review is regarding the phone wait time. You know when they tell you that we call you back in 40 minutes, yeah first they called back after 60 minutes AND then I had to wait another 18 minutes for someone to answer. I would provide negative stars if possible. During a week without power, I would receive messages that my power was restored, and within the same few minutes, I would receive messages that it would not be restored for another week. When I inquired via phone and Facebook, their response was that there were too many people without power to tell me any time frame. The power is now restored, and I have yet to receive notice that it is working; a neighbor informed me, knowing my family had to stay elsewhere. What is ridiculous? The only form of help the company offered was water & ice to 310,000 customers without power.   Is that not the responsibility of a power company to provide answers, be prepared for storms, and provide assistance to customers? Why are we paying a company that cannot provide the one service they are responsible for during a slight storm? Why are service lines still above ground only in lower income areas of Cleveland? I call,there trouble line to tell them about a huge ice cycle, that had formed on my electric line leading into my home.with in an hour they sent a crew and removed it.it could of caused a power outage for me.they took care of the problem promptly. read more

I absolutely hate them. Granted, I doubt there's anything I can gain really from posting a bad yelp review of them since you don't really get to choose who you get your electricity from, but when I called them to correct a mistake done on their part (a billing error), they acted like it was all my fault and that they were doing me a favor by just letting me talk to them. When I requested to talk to the manager, the associate on the phone initially would not transfer me. After repeated requests, she finally did, but I only got the answering machine, and when I tried to leave a message the machine hung up on me. Whatever happened to courteous and polite customer service? It is clearly lacking in this mess of a power company. read more

So the power is out now on the west side of Cleveland for those who have CPP. I read online where CEI is in a lawsuit with CPP so I'm wondering if this isn't some retaliation on CEIs part against CPP since CEI is responsible for the line that feeds CPPs power supply. With all the development and new half million dollar townhouses being built on Cleveland's west side this outage is definitely bad for business and would probably induce a lot of people to switch to CEI. Just a thought... It's something to think about, that's for sure. read more

Horrible service. Our power went out 3 times in a week due to storms and bad weather. It took forever to get our lights back on. Billing is very outdated, it takes them no time to debit money from your account but takes forever to adjust your bill and current balance. Long customer service wait times and rude staff. Also, when canceling services, it takes 24-48hrs to shut off! Wouldn't recommend. read more

Living within Cleveland city limits, I thought Cleveland Public Power was my only option for electricity. I suffered through years of their unconventional billing practices, even though I was on their budget program, which you can only sign up for in the month of October (?), and suffering through their nasty Customer Service Department. The final straw was last week, when I called about a balance that started appearing on my bill several months ago. I keep paying what they tell me to pay each month, but this balance wasn't going away. It turns out to be yet another mistake that they made with my budget billing. They aren't budgeting it properly. They aren't taking any overages and dividing them up over a span of time. When you reach the end of the year, whatever overage you have is due immediately. I have no idea what happens if you have a surplus, because they have not budgeted me properly for me to have a surplus, so I cannot comment on that. Anyway, right on the phone with the customer service person, she told me that they should have turned off my power months ago. She threatened to turn off my power at that exact moment if I did not immediately send them $700. I said that I was not comfortable with that, and that I wanted to speak to a manager. She ignored me. Anyway, I ended up speaking to a different customer service person, with whom I worked out a payment plan. They agreed to not turn off my power. How nice of them, to do that for a dutiful customer who pays exactly what each monthly bill tells them to pay. You repeatedly mess up my bill. Then when I call to try and fix it, you are nasty to me, and threaten to turn off my power, without any prior notice. After that, I called the Illuminating Company to see about switching over to them. The rate that I would pay to the Illuminating Company is HALF of what Cleveland Public Power has been charging me for the past several years. I've been paying twice as much as I had to. So, on top of the horrible service, threats, and billing errors, they have been overcharging me for years. I have someone from the Illuminating Company coming out to see what it will take to switch me over to them instead. read more

Cleveland Public Power is by far the worst experience in all ways possible. The bill is different every month by big differences. Everytime you call you get an extremely rude woman/girl. I made a payment to my account or so I thought, they posted it to someone elses account. When we moved we got service in my wifes name and they never activated us for 3 months, no bill no notice. We got a balled up note saying our service will be terminated in 24 hours. After calling they had the bill in someone elses name all together. After going back an forth an even being hung up on and yelled at by an uneducated rude young lady I called to speak with management. Oh and what a suprise another rude lady. Long story short it was straightened out but they lied to us about how much it would cost. read more

i have a friend that lives on woodbridge ave and hes been off on the road trucking over the last 3 to 4 yrs, he comes back to woodbridge and the guy stayed there before had and electric bill over 600.00 and they told him he cant get electric turned on in his name until he pay what the last resident bill was. i said that is pure B/S. thats like me driving ur car and the car company saying since i drove it i gotta pay his car note. they need electric competition. i here illuminating co. is wonderful, i wish he lived in the illuminating area.
