    Pretend City Field Trip.
    Danielle P.

Before I found CLIC Montessori with Mrs. Alexis I was googling and searching for a "Black Montessori" school. They are really hard to find and come by. I've been wanting to put my child in a Montessori program but I couldn't find one. Finally, I found CLIC Montessori last year, and even amidst the uncertainty of the Pandemic Mrs. Alexis offered a safe, fun, comfortable, inspiring and educational atmosphere. Not to mention she prays with my child. That is so important to me as a Christian believer. My daughter has made immense strides in literally three months and she incorporates her learning into the home setting and anywhere we go. She has gained more confidence, independence and knowledge from her time here. Mrs. Alexis also offers safe protocols with all the changing health precautions. We even went on a fun field trip to Pretend City!! We love our school.

I transferred my daughter here from another daycare because our experience there was very different. She used to complain a lot, cry too much, and never wanted to go. Almost every time I picked her up, her little eyes looked teary, and as a mom that was very hard for me. At this school, it has been a completely different experience. My daughter seems much more comfortable, and I truly appreciate the kindness and attention she receives. Ms. Robledo, Ms. Cruz, Miss Amanda, Ms. Bustos, and all of the teachers there have always been so sweet to her. It means a lot to know she is in a caring environment, and I'm very thankful for that.

The preschool program is very engaging for kids - they do fun crafts, worksheets and have play time/games every day. Our preschooler loves his teachers and classmates and is very happy about his experience there. He temporarily went to another preschool for a month while CBS was closed and it was NOT a good experience at all (way too many kids to one teacher; no structure or planned activities for the kids). Even though CBS doesn't offer live cameras or dailly photos of your kids, I trust my preschooler in the care of the staff. They are courteous and truly care about the children and their well being. I also appreciate that the school follows COVID protocols and is a nut free facility as my preschooler has a peanut allergy. Our youngest son is 19 months and we will be sending him to the infant/daycare center next month in October.

Throughout her time there, we received frequent reports about behaviors such as difficulty sitting still, trouble during nap time, refusing directions, and challenges with transitions. What became frustrating was that the communication often focused on what she was doing wrong rather than what supports were being implemented to help her succeed. As parents, we repeatedly asked what interventions were being used, requested behavioral observations, sought positive feedback in addition to incident reports, and worked to collaborate with staff. We were trying to understand the reasons behind the behaviors and find solutions together. Since leaving the program, she has been diagnosed with autism. Looking back at many of the communications we received, I cannot help but wonder whether her behaviors were being viewed primarily as defiance and misconduct rather than possible signs that she needed additional support and understanding. One of the most painful moments was being told that she was the only child in the class who behaved a certain way. As a parent, hearing a young child singled out in that manner was heartbreaking. Rather than increasing support, we were eventually informed that she could no longer attend a full day and would need to be picked up at noon. It felt as though the solution was to reduce her participation instead of finding ways to help her succeed in the classroom. I cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but I can speak to the impact this experience had on our family. We left feeling that our daughter was viewed as a behavioral problem to manage rather than a child trying to navigate challenges that were not yet understood. I hope this review encourages Creative Beginnings to reflect on how they support neurodivergent children and children who struggle differently. Every child deserves patience, compassion, and a genuine effort to understand what is behind the behavior.

We are so grateful to have found and be a part of the MAOD community!…read more Where to begin with my review- I'll start from the beginning, after touring several pre-schools in the area, my husband and I were convinced MAOD would be the best choice for our daughter. From the very beginning when inquiring about information on enrollment and space we were always greeted courteously and warmly by the school's administrator, Veronica. Setting up our initial tour of the school was easy and we appreciated that we got a tour from one of the teachers who would be working with our 4 year old, so it was nice getting to know her a bit and asking her questions. During the tour, it was great being able to see all aspects of the school not just the areas assigned to their pre-k students but also where the infant area is, the kitchen where lunches/snacks are prepped the restrooms, playground, classrooms- everything! We also had the opportunity to ask questions about the schools teaching methods, curriculum, and experience of the teachers with Montessori so upon all of this, my husband and I made the decision to enroll our little one at MAOD. After 5-6 months of enrollment, we really are very satisfied in having brought our daughter here. It wasn't a smooth transition, there were days/weeks with lots of tears at drop off, but her teachers were patient and flexible with her needs, and I am happy to say she is doing great now. We love that the classes are small and there are two teachers per pre-k class. As parents we get a monthly newsletter with what's to come for the month and I always look forward to seeing her interpretations of different artists for "artist of the month" and hearing from her what she learned in school everyday. Most of the teachers are bilingual so it was a huge plus for us as our daughter is primarily a Spanish speaker which brings me to my next huge plus- in a matter of just a few months her English has improved significantly! We are amazed at how much English she speaks now compared to when she started. One of the other big pluses about MAOD is their incorporation of Montessori principles and we always love seeing when the kids are learning by doing. Her teachers, Ms. Patty and Ms. Sinttia are truly wonderful! They both have their special way of connecting and nurturing each student based on their needs, we truly appreciated how they each adapted to our daughter's needs as she transitioned into school full time. My daughter loves them both and won't stop talking about them at home. The app the school uses to communicate with parents is great too, I love that teachers update with pictures and important announcements consistently. Overall, we would definitely recommend MAOD to anyone looking to enroll their child in a ECE program. So much so that we will definitely be bringing our little one here when they are old enough to enroll in the future. I hope this review will encourage other potential families to check out MAOD, as we believe that it is a truly nurturing and caring environment for little ones as they begin their early childhood education. Thank you, Ms Veronica, Ms. Patty, Ms. Sinttia, and all the teachers and staff who have made this experience wonderful!

I was a little nervous about the transition at first, but the teachers are so kind and caring that it quickly put me at ease. All of the teachers genuinely care, you can truly feel it, and it shows in the kids. Even though she is still new to the school setting, her transition into the new class was very smooth. Ms. Ale also incorporates home projects, which I really appreciate. As busy parents, it's a nice reminder to pause and spend quality one-on-one time with our little ones, nurturing their creativity and helping them grow. We've really enjoyed the first two projects and I'm grateful for the opportunity to slow down and focus on that special time together.

She said he was being disrespectful because he put his head down and ignored her. He ignored her because he was upset about an inccident that happened in class right before. I asked if he threw a tantrum or verbally said anything to her that would be disrespectful she said no. He was not threatening other children nor was he being a threat to himself she just found it "disrespectful" she said that he shut down and put his head down. I would like to think that perhaps she would have given him time to cool off or think about things. After all he is 5 years old and she could have talked to him had him discuss what exactly was wrong. Once he got a chance to express himself or cool off perhaps he would have not ignored her.. Instead it upset her enough to grab my sons arm and squeeze it. Then proceeded to take him to office. Initially, I did not believe him because I thought he just didn't like her. However, when talking to her after school in conference she did admit that she grabbed his arm. It really made me think about her educational level, low level of tolerance or compassion and caring level for small children. My son was new to school, new to rules, and this was his experience at this school. I was once very excited to send him to St. Marks. However completely and utterly distraught to have had my son experience this. I took my son out of the school and now going to a different private school that is nurturing and caring. He still after 6 weeks of being out still talks about his bad experience of the mean teacher who "grabbed his arm". I never gave permission for anyone to touch my son in any way shape or form. I write this yelp review hoping that parents will ask more questions. The school has no SCHOOL WIDE discipline plan and according to the teacher discipline varies from child to child. Wrong answer for me.
