No water or electricity at tent sites but being prepared we didn't need them. Staff was fantastic at checkin. We followed Lester(?) to the site which was on the top of the hill away from the RV sites. Although this is a trail head to the ATV trails we didn't hear any of them. Plenty of deer around the campgrounds. See the deer to the right of the trash can in the second pic. Beautiful nite sky. Some noise at night from the nearby power plant but just sounds like a big fan so it wasn't a bother. Couldn't be happier here and can't wait to return. Highly recommend.

One of the classic spots to visit in Wise, County. There is really a very good set of trails around…read morefor either hiking or mountain biking. Much of the local mountain biking scene maintains these trails to exceptional levels. High knob was vandalized / burned down a number of years ago, but the rebuild place gives just as good a views and is more accessible. Not as good in the Parkitecture front, but does it's purpose. Flag Rock is part of the area and is a beautiful overlook to Norton. Another "must see" spot. Numerous trails and routes from this part of the area. Also, there are a ton of camping, picnicing, shelters and other ways to spend some good times outdoors with friends and family.

I called here to try and make a reservation and the woman who answered the phone was rude. She…read moredidn't even answer the phone like a business. I had to ask if it was a campground. She didn't want to make the reservation for me because it was too far out and she said she didn't want to kick out her full-timers for someone only wanting to stay for a weekend. I was trying to book a year out, but maybe she has full-timers staying more than a year out or something, not sure. She wouldn't explain it to me, so I had to hang up. If this rude over the phone, I can only imagine what it must be like in person if you need assistance while camping.

It's not huge but they have a lot to offer! We went this week, so fall, so we weren't able to go tubing but we were able to go kayaking which was so great! Now this kayaking isn't like huge rapids or anything, in fact it is more of a slow pace with a few blips of tiny rapids. So pace is left completely up to you, and since this was my first time kayaking I really enjoyed getting the feel of the kayak without having to worry about being spilled out. The Campsite was really spacious, there was plenty of firewood available if we needed it and there was plenty brought over to our campsite for our use. They had an awning that was used for other things during the summer I guess we were able to use over our pick-nick table which was really great since we had a lot of stuff and the back of our car doubled as a second tent for our third person. Cooking was a bit of a challenge since there weren't any built in grates for the fire rings but we were able to figure something out so it all worked out. The bathroom was just a shower and toilet/sink room however the lighting system was well set up and (at least in the fall) was never so busy we ever had to wait. Also, it was extremely clean! We stayed here because it was the closest campsite to the place where we were picking up a puppy but we were so happy with Something Squatchy Adventures we plan to visit next year! PS. Prices were great and they're pet friendly!

Excellent find! Such a hidden chill spot on a quiet lake--unless a camp shows up. I'm assuming…read moregroups of teenagers from camps isn't common. If it is common, drop this to 2 Stars. But if they don't show up, it's a gem. You even have the whole water park to yourself, and it's fun! You can also lounge on a dock while drinking a beer with a mountain backdrop. If you want more action after that, you can go paddle-boarding, kayaking, or jet skiing. They also have a restaurant overlooking the lake with excellent Chicken Tenders and tons of beer on tap. And the service is friendly and efficient. If you want to feed fish, they're waiting for you. They come up to the side of the restaurant deck. Once again, this really comes down to how many people show up to that dock on the lake. The fewer, the better. If it's crowded, time to eat or go do something else because it's not a lot of space. Overall, recommended. For best odds of fewer people, get there early or late.

The campground is absolutely beautiful with a creek running through it and amazing views of the…read moremountains. Each site has full hookups including internet and sewer and everything is very clean and well maintained. The check in area had a picnic pavilion with grills free for use. Big Stone is less than a mile whith walking trails that pass right by the campground. You can walk to several restaurants and stores. Be sure to check out Curlins and order the fried green tomatoes.

The bath house was clean and decorated very nice. Looks like it has been freshly painted. A wonderful covered pavilion with lots of tables and gas grills. They even had season firewood available for a couple dollars. They even have a draw bridge to walk across the powell river to access the Big Stone Gap town's walking trail. It is truly a hidden gem.
