Big Stone is less than a mile whith walking trails that pass right by the campground. You can walk to several restaurants and stores. Be sure to check out Curlins and order the fried green tomatoes.

They even had season firewood available for a couple dollars. They even have a draw bridge to walk across the powell river to access the Big Stone Gap town's walking trail. It is truly a hidden gem.

No water or electricity at tent sites but being prepared we didn't need them. Staff was fantastic at checkin. We followed Lester(?) to the site which was on the top of the hill away from the RV sites. Although this is a trail head to the ATV trails we didn't hear any of them. Plenty of deer around the campgrounds. See the deer to the right of the trash can in the second pic. Beautiful nite sky. Some noise at night from the nearby power plant but just sounds like a big fan so it wasn't a bother. Couldn't be happier here and can't wait to return. Highly recommend.

Clearly, this place is marketed to resemble Natural Bridge, Virginia's better known (and frankly,…read moremore impressive) attraction. The park here is set up with a number of camping facilities and trails that have a separate entrance, while the attraction itself is accessible by parking at a visitor center and either walking down a fairly steep trail or taking a (seasonal) chairlift. On the dreary day I visited, there was barely a soul in sight, but the park seemed to be setting up for a winter lights festival. The tunnel itself is used for a railroad line, and a viewing platform allows you to go to the edge of the tunnel but you can't actually go through it, which is disappointing. The trail downstream through the gorge is pleasant and worth a brief jaunt but it terminates quickly. Those seeking more of a hike will find the ridge trail that heads upwards worthwhile, and the views of the tunnel from above are probably at least as good as what you'd get walking up close to it. The local Lover's Leap is majestic (and horrifying, if you think about it). I did not think it one of the more impressive state parks in either Virginia or in the the confluence of states in this region, but there are some nice things to see.

We stayed at Carr Creek State Park Campground for 3 days at $25/day. Some map apps may shows this…read morecampground as Littcarr Campground. As with any Kentucky State Park campground; we can either choose AAA discount, or 2nd day half off. We found this campground on our way to Red River Gorge. What caught our eyes was the deep lake and tall mountain surrounding the campground. Our site#31 has very good shade and little farther to comfort station than we normally wanted, but the site was spacious and plenty of privacy. Our site was half paved and half graveled, but fairly leveled. WiFi is none existence and LTE/3G barely worked. OTA TV has 6 digital channels. Power pedestal and water hookup were in convenient spots. Park staff was very gracious and helpful; point out the best sites, available discounts, etc. Marina for kayak access to Carr Fork Lake about 1 mile east of HWY15 from campground. Swimming beach access by walking down the flagstone steps. Although it was closed for the season, nonetheless, we saw family still enjoy the lake down there. Bathroom with showers and toilets were outdated and needs serious scrubbing. Not whole lot of things to see or around this area, more like a relax pad before continuing on our way.

Even though the place has beautiful views and looks nice and clean they seem to be nice at first we…read morestayed there had our rv there for over a year and the proce in the beginning was good and fair little by little they kept raising the price of electricity and wifi . Mind you we had our rv park there threw the year but we only stayed 3 or 4 wks every 4 months . So we weren't there all the time at first it was 700 a month with wifi included and ele was 25cents per killerwatts that adds up pretty quick by the time we decided to leave they were charging our card 900 a mo th and pre charge for months we were staying cause they put t our card on auto pay becareful of that . Tennessee has plenty of other rv camps that are alot cheaper

She didn't want to make the reservation for me because it was too far out and she said she didn't want to kick out her full-timers for someone only wanting to stay for a weekend. I was trying to book a year out, but maybe she has full-timers staying more than a year out or something, not sure. She wouldn't explain it to me, so I had to hang up. If this rude over the phone, I can only imagine what it must be like in person if you need assistance while camping.

The folks running this campsite may not have been in the business long but I tell you what... I've…read morebeen to several campsites now and this is one of the best I've been to. It's not huge but they have a lot to offer! We went this week, so fall, so we weren't able to go tubing but we were able to go kayaking which was so great! Now this kayaking isn't like huge rapids or anything, in fact it is more of a slow pace with a few blips of tiny rapids. So pace is left completely up to you, and since this was my first time kayaking I really enjoyed getting the feel of the kayak without having to worry about being spilled out. The Campsite was really spacious, there was plenty of firewood available if we needed it and there was plenty brought over to our campsite for our use. They had an awning that was used for other things during the summer I guess we were able to use over our pick-nick table which was really great since we had a lot of stuff and the back of our car doubled as a second tent for our third person. Cooking was a bit of a challenge since there weren't any built in grates for the fire rings but we were able to figure something out so it all worked out. The bathroom was just a shower and toilet/sink room however the lighting system was well set up and (at least in the fall) was never so busy we ever had to wait. Also, it was extremely clean! We stayed here because it was the closest campsite to the place where we were picking up a puppy but we were so happy with Something Squatchy Adventures we plan to visit next year! PS. Prices were great and they're pet friendly!
