I'd always enjoyed their personal service. Personal is the key word. I enjoy working on bikes too and Gardner understands, he set me up with proper parts to do my own work.. (took me hours that he could finish in minutes but that's my preference) Rachel is super customer friendly... I always feel like everyone there really loves bikes and helping people get back to riding bikes in tip top condition, asap! Though my bike is ancient by today standards and cheap steel and aluminum quality compared to todays super stainless - titanium - magnesium -alloys... Gardner and Rachel don't kick me out of the store when I need something... They find what I need or tell me it doesn't exist anymore, straight up... and I really appreciate that!. :D read more

I second what Brendan C. wrote in his comments. His very positive and constructive experience lines up exactly with mine! I refer people to Gardner and Rachel who are interested in riding, but don't know exactly what they may be looking for. Gardner and Rachel work with people extremely well, asking questions about how you think you'll use the bike then suggest a model - road, hybrid, mountain. You don't get that attention in many LBS, and forgot about that in the big box stores like Walmart. Regarding repairs, I recall I had a fairly bent wheel that I took to another LBS who trued it, took my $20 and gave it back. The next ride I was breaking spokes again. So I took it to Gardner, which should have been my first step, who gently suggested that the rim was bent beyond reasonable repair and I should consider a replacement wheel. Again, integrity and honesty. No B.S. here. These are the reasons why I mention to whoever asks me: this bike shop is the best in Western N.J. read more

Rachel and Gardner have to be about the nicest shop owners I've met and I feel like I'm in deep New Hampshire where people are friendly and not in NJ where, well I'm sure you know what I mean. I bought a bicycle from Gardner and Rachel a couple of years ago. They were both extremely pleasant to deal with and have excellent memories for all of their customers! They recalled my name and what model bicycle I purchased when I visited them nearly a year after the date of purchase. I've been in bike shops where the sales rep was attempting to sell people "more bicycle" than they obviously needed. Gardner and Rachel are not like that. They talk with you about what your realistic intentions are with the bike and help you find the one that meets your needs and price range.
