Wow I have been to many Bike Shops in North Jersey over the past decades. I knew Jason the owner and thought I would try Pedal Sports, My mountain bike had been kicking the chain and several attempts to fix it hadn't done the trick, I love the bike so I was getting concerned. Jason took it in on the Thursday told me the parts needed said he would try and get them and by the next Tuesday it was done, price was reasonable for a big overhaul. I hate to rain on the parade, but of the three random bicycle shops I stopped in this summer, Pedal Sports definitely ranks third. I swung by a bit after 6 on a Monday night; Pedal Sports does get points for being one of the few places in the area that's open after 5 or 6 on Mondays. I had a flat for the second day in a row, so I wanted to have someone more experienced look at it. The guy at the counter did. He wasn't super friendly, but that alone wasn't a dealbreaker. He figured out where the flat was, replaced the tube, and said I should be good to go. I thought I was back in business for my bicycling vacation. The next day, I drove to Washington Heights and rode around Manhattan and into Brooklyn. I stopped in Brooklyn for some refreshment, with 25 miles on the new tube, and when I came out I had another flat, same tire. I looked up nearby bike shops, and took it to the Cobble Hill Trek Store, an easy walk. I told them that I'd now had a flat three days in a row, so they went into investigator mode. They determined that the flat was on the inside of the tube, and there was a rough patch in the tape on the inside of the wheel. They replaced the tape and the tube. For the rest of the vacation, I had no issues with flats. I appreciate the longer hours, but I would have been better off stopping at a shop in the Bronx on the way into Manhattan the next morning. I could see them missing the tape problem if I just said I had a random flat, but having mentioned it was the second day in a row, I expected them to do a thorough job, as the Cobble Hill Trek store did. read more

I have came to this shop on multiple occasions, and on each and every one the older man who works in the front seems to have a attitude. He tried to make the situation worse than it is and never really helps. I had a issue with my bike and I needed to fix it to be able to go home, and had to go to the store across the street. They were able to help me right away, and were more than happy to work overtime and help me with my problem completely free. This bike shop is a joke and ace hardware is the way to go. read more

RAVE reviews for Jason (new owner in new location for just the past few months) at Pedal Sports in Oakland. I am not a serious biker by any stretch of the imagination and he was amazingly patient and helpful to me. After meeting in person at the shop, he promptly answered questions via email. He did a beautiful tune-up on my very old bike and wheel repair at an extremely reasonable price comparable to last time I did a tune-up (YEARS ago!). While another shop may have taken the opportunity to sell me a new bike, Jason balanced my budget and safety needs. No doubt that this shop will flourish into a great community resource for Oakland and surrounding towns! read more

Been going to this place since I was a kid. service is awesome when I was younger in middle/grammar school used to ride my bike there and the owner would always help us looking back I am 30 years old now and ride road cycles the staff had a lot of patience with me and my friends all the questions and so on. Now present date there has been times where I brought my bike there and stuff was done on the spot for me not like a lot of other bike stores in the area that give you a ticket and say might be done in a few days and when u pick it up the tech that worked on it isn't in today so they guess it was only this problem. At pedal sports your a name not a number they are busy but always fit you in and get what u need done so you can be on the road or in the woods there reliable and stand behind there products Highly recommend them over any other bike stores in the area go in take a look and find out true mom and pop store not corporate where if something breaks you have a problem your out of luck A+++ read more

VERY Rude staff. One of those store where its a task getting the staffs attention. I waited 10 minuted at the desk while the owner had a prive call, he didnt even make eye contact with me . I would highly Reccomend using Ridgewood cycles, campmore, okland cycles anyday. read more

Needed a new bike. By going into Pedal Sports and dealing with Rob the owner I found out that the bike i purchased a few years back was the wrong size for me. Rob gave me a bike to go outside in the parking lot to test.... I could not believe the difference in a proper sized bike would make.... I working with me for a month to find the correct bike both size and budget I purchased a Specialized Carbon bike now it is like I want to ride all the time went back a few times for minor adjustments the staff could not be more helpful and taking care of those adjustments right away.... I just bought a new bike at Pedal Sports and So far I'm very happy I did. The price was good and includes a year of service on the bike. After the first ride I noticed something a little off and they fixed it right away. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful, and I didn't feel any pressure throughout the process. James are you sure you had the right shop. They are nothing but helpful every time I'm in there. I bought a road bike from them 2 yrs ago and would go back in a heartbeat. If I'm riding bike I can stop in for quick adjustments no problem. The best thing about this shop is they will not try to sell you something you don't need - although I can always talk myself into it without their help. These guys are the rock stars of bike shops!
