I started going to this vet because they were closer. The low rating is because the vet misdiagnosed my dog with allergies. After several costly payments of "allergy's meds and months of a very uncomfortable dog not getting any better, I decided to drive to my original vet who took one look at my dog and order a test that determined my dog had mange! Dog immediately began treatment and started showing signs of improvement quickly. I'm giving any stars are because the staff at this particular vet is a nice group. We have been using Clinton Vet clinic since Nov 23 for my puppy Seven. Everything has been ok. They are kind of pricy but the service was good so we dealt with the prices. Yesterday I had Sevens teeth cleaned and there was a serious payment issue. When I initially scheduled to have his teeth cleaned they quoted me a price of $600. I asked why it cost so much and the lady on the phone broke down the bill for me. I decided right then on the phone that since the blood work was not necessary that I wasn't going to get it. I just wanted to schedule for the cleaning. The lady on the phone said ok and scheduled the appointment for us. Yesterday when my fiancé dropped Seven off for the service he completed the paperwork and on the question regarding the bloodwork he checked the box for NO. One the front of the form they wrote the total cost $691 and highlighted it. I picked Seven up myself after surgery and when it was time to pay, the girl said $791. I said huh!! It's not supposed to be that much. She then acted like she was reviewing the documents again. She told me that the cleaning was X amount and the bloodwork was X amount. I said to her that we opted out of the blood work. She acted like my fiancé had checked to have the blood work included. She only showed me the highlighted price $691 so I assumed that he had checked to have the bloodwork done because that's what she said. I should have looked at the entire statement instead of just the highlighted amount. Nonetheless I paid $706 and left. When I got home I was talking to my fiancé about how expensive Clinton Vet was becoming and told him that the total cost for the teeth cleaning was $706. My fiancee proceeded to tell me that he selected no for the bloodwork so we should not have been charged so much. I tried calling Clinton vet on the phone but was unable to get them. We decided to drive back up there. When we got back to the clinic, the girl seemed annoyed with the fact that we were back to dispute the charges. She then said that the blood work was not optional and it's a part of the cost of the service. I said to her that earlier she told me that it was optional and I said I didnt want it to the scheduler on the phone. We asked her for the paper, my fiancé showed her on the sheet where he checked "NO" for the bloodwork. We told her that if the Bloodwork was not optional then why was there a question about it? I then asked her if she had given us the discount (10%) for February. She said "O" like she was surprised and stated that she had totally forgotten about the discount. She said that we would get $46 off of the dental service. She then said she would have to ask the Doctor about the blood work fees. She went back and chatted with the doctor and came back and said that he would only offer me a refund for 60% of the blood work fees. She refunded me back $150 to my card. We were upset and shocked that we were charged for service that we specifically did not want. It was not our fault that the sheet was overlooked. Receiving the refund of $150 was a total slap in the face. We should have been credited the entire cost of the blood work and the 10%. We will not be going back to Clinton Vet clinic. We are not interested in being ripped off by any service provider. Stand on your business policy and do what's fair. Don't try to rob your customers! read more

Stay away from this place. The vet does not do proper procedures and follow-ups. I first took my older cat there, she was diagnosed with Diabetes, and they put her on a starting level of insulin that with one injection made her blood sugar totally crash and I almost lost her if not for Waldorf Emergency Care keeping her three days to stabilize and monitor her. More recently, my younger cat was diagnosed at Waldorf Emergency Care with a UTI and finished her medication, but both my cats were not really going to the bathroom, so I did the follow-up to make sure my younger cat's infection was clear and that my older cat had not gotten infected, and after charging me over $500 and being told they were fine, I found they did not even run a urinalysis to check for infection on either one. read more

they call PGC animal department on me. saying Im neglecting my dog and denied all treatment for my dog and she has a broken leg. I went to CVH to get x-ray and her shots. They told me the price of everything $75 for visit, $30 a shot, $600 for x-ray. While the assistant giving me the prices, I contacted another vet who was less expensive and chose to go there. So I ask can I jus get her shots and I will go to the other vet for everthing els. The veterinarian finally came look at her and told me he couldn't give her any shots because her leg is swollen and he don't want to cause an affection. so I left and went to the other vet. CVH never informed me that her leg is broke and denied me her shots. Then call PHC animal department and said I neglected you all services. I will never go to this vet again. Earlier I thought it was only some of the staff who were awful but that the vet himself was probably ok. I now consider the vet himself to be negligently incompetent. Early June I went there with a cat who had become very inactive and was hardly eating. I also noticed his back legs were having trouble - did not seem to be moving right. I explained all of this upon arriving. Even before the vet had examined our cat, I was talked into x-rays, and bloodwork, both with rush (i.e. within hours) interpretation. The doctor said the x-rays did not show anything, so it must be some soft tissue damage to the hind legs, maybe from a fall/jump, and that it would likely just get better on its own. He said the pain from that was probably why the cat was not eating well. I will return to the medical situation shortly but first want to explain something about their incompetent office. The total bill was nearly $1000. When I was nearly home, I realized the records I HAD BROUGHT upon their request had not been returned to me. The office (as directed BY THE VET) would not mail these to me, but rather I had to make another hour trip to pick them up. So I drove back there, and said I wanted ALL the records - INCLUDING THE X-RAYS AND BLOODWORK RESULTS I HAD PAID FOR - both for that cat and for another I had taken there in February. The records I received DID NOT HAVE THE X-RAYS but rather only print-outs (NO IMAGES). So I had to wait for them to prepare and add the x-ray images. The record for one cat did not have the bloodwork results from the lab, but rather only the office write-up of it. One cat's records included pages FROM A DIFFERENT ANIMAL - SOME DOG - mixed in with them. So, despite having told them advance that I needed the full records, giving them plenty of time to prepare them, I had to wait at least 30 minutes once I got there for them to correct all their sloppy mistakes. Now, back to the medical situation: Our cat did not improve, and I took him to a different vet, providing them all the records, including the bloodwork results from Clinton. They noticed right away that the cat's blood glucose was very high, and that there was also glucose in the urine - both indicating diabetes! Both of these had been flagged by the lab, but the vet at Clinton seems not to have noticed, and never mentioned. A quick in-house glucose test was done and also showed very high, but to be sure, additional blood was drawn and the results came back confirming what this quack vet in Clinton never noticed: 1) our cat was diabetic 2) the lameness in his back legs was likely due to diabetice neuropathy, which in cats often manifests in the hind legs. Since then we have worked with other vets to treat our cat for a serious condition that this quack did not even notice (or noticed and ignored). read more

Totally negligent or incompetent? We took our cat Mickey there about 5 weeks ago. We noticed he was not eating as usual and walked somewhat funny. They did blood work, took urine and also an x-ray, charging almost $ 1000, then told us he must have injured himself somewhere and has some soft tissue damage, and should just rest inside for a week (he goes in and out and is usually a very active cat). I expressed my 'outrage' over their pricing, which they then put into Mickey's medical record, as if this is a necessary part of it. We did not want to go there again and requested all the medical records (they gave us records of a little dog as well, just sloppy and unorganized), but I did not look at it, because I was still upset. 2 weeks later we took Mickey to 'All Cats and Dogs' in La Plata and the first thing Dr. Smith said is that Mickey's blood sugar is over 400 and was marked 'high' in the results and that there is also sugar in his urine. THAT STUPID CLINTON DOCTOR HAD NOT EVEN LOOKED AT HIS OWN TEST RESULTS!!! How incompetent or negligent can anyone be! Dr. Smith confirmed the high blood sugar and we are dealing now with a diabetic cat. His 'funny' walk is some neuropathy due to the high blood sugar levels. Mickey is not overweight, and very active, so I never would have thought diabetes. But as a vet you at least should be able and willing to read your own test results. But maybe they were too busy documenting my complaining about their high prices, since that I guess was really important for them to document. read more

Very overpriced, they try to charge you for literally anything. They have something called hazardous waste I wasn't even explained what that was as that being my first time there. I took my dog as an emergency for ear infection, they had same day appointment with what's going it was convenient. Other vets were not taking same day appointment that's why I went in. I would not go back here again I would rather drive farther to old vet than go back to them. You can tell they try sell you into spending more by telling what's NOT wrong with your pet like not being neutered. In times like this why would I be concerned about that? read more

They scheduled an appointment very quickly so I thought the appointment would go great. This was not the case and the whole thing felt like a scam. They still will not allow the owner in while the pet/dog is being examined, which is not ideal as there is no verification from the owner that there was a service provided. My dog was picked up from the car as I explained to the technician what I was there for and handed over all documentation. They focused on one issue and wanted to do blood work and an ultra sound. I decided not to that as the dog had just had blood drawn three weeks ago and an ultrasound for that issue. At that point, I told them to do a health exam and that would be good. the dog returned within 10 minutes of me handing him over. That included the time for the tech to grab him from the car and take him around back, check him in (weigh and look at shot records), and pay for the dog. I was not informed of anything they did for the appointment nor if they found anything to report. My dog is a senior dog there is always something to find so basically I paid for a check up and am not even sure a check up was done. read more

I came in for deworming my puppy. I wasn't expecting to pay more then $100 but instead gave me a $300 bill. All because they have all these extra shots that I did not ask for. The extra shots I was going to get was going to be in a shelter were is cheaper. Anyways I told them I wasn't going to pay the $300 because I did not ask for "the extra shots" they gave my dog. I must say I love this place. I went because I got a free wellness visit coupon from the Charles County Humane Society. The staff was very friendly. My dog is very nervous so she kept peeing and pooping all over the place. The vet tech just cleaned it up and never once complained. She also explained all the shots my dog needed and why. The vet came in and my dog Cara was at ease with Dr. Debretsion. He was very calm and patient with her and was super friendly. I feel like she got everything she needed and the price of wasn't bad at all. They even faxed my pet insurance claim in for me. I will definitely be back and Cara now has a permanent doctor. The only downside is that parking is limited and Brandywine Road is very busy and it is hard to get in and out of the parking lot at times. read more

I took my 3yr old Rottie to Clinton Vet Hospital because I feared she had cancer since she had lost weight. Over the two hour span of the appointment, they said several test were run including X-rays. When I picked up my pup, the employee explained the blood test results and stated that all other tests (fecal, urinalysis (UA), blood) were negative. I was told they would call me the next day for X-ray results. After not hearing from them by 12:45, I called. I also asked about the UA because I noticed my pup had been urinating more since returning home. I was then told the UA was not done. I stated that I was told the previous day that it was completed. The employee claimed to have checked several times but found no indications of the UA. I asked why did the person lie to me the previous day and EVERYONE , including the manager whom I spoke to from that point on, wanted to tell me how to submit a urine sample. No one could explain why I was lied to and why I should trust the diagnosis. I stressed the point that I brought my dog in to see if she was dying from cancer and ended up being lied to after paying several hundred dollars for services that were not completed and the manager still provided the same response basically stating she wasn't there and I could bring a urine sample in! At this point, why would I trust them to do their job?? I was given a prescription for my pup but who knows if the medication is correct since all tests were not conducted. There is obviously a dire need for customer service training and accountability on all levels at this clinic! Maybe that's why they still have pet owners wait outside...so you can't see they are not doing everything you are paying for! Not surprisingly. The paperwork edited and printed today states that the UA was not done...their CYA tactics in full force! read more

*PLEASE READ IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A VET* stay away from here! I've been taking my German Shepherd here for a few months(I don't anymore), and if you don't want to know anything about your pet this is the place to go but they're so quick to take your money. They don't even do the BARE minimum. You can't go inside with your pet(which there are plenty of vets that do let you go inside now despite of covid) so you have no idea what they're doing, they barely give you any information on your pet. Any good vet will call you for a follow up and I never received one since I been going there. My dog was supposed to get a MONTHLY heartworm pill which they NEVER let us know it was month to month, then they only gave it to him in January and February and stopped giving them to him?? Next time they gave it to him was in June. They seem to always leave out important information. The doctor had told us he MIGHT have a neck tumor and never spoke of it again. You just told someone their dog may have a neck tumor and you never follow up about it? No information for something so serious as a tumor unless you open your mouth to bring it up to them!! And if not, you won't hear about it again. For one of his appointments, I had a minor issue with him that I wanted them to check out while he was already there, they told me it would be a $95 fee because it's an "emergency examination" what??! It's not an emergency when he is already there for a follow up from one of his prior visits. I've spoke to the actual doctor only about 2 times on the phone and never heard from him again. Honestly ridiculous. They're overly expensive for their nonexistent service. If you love your fur babies, please GO TO ANOTHER VET !!! read more

I was, until today, a client of this practice. I had three animals under their care. Honestly, I should have sought another vet after my first visit. Short version: senseless nickle & dime/hard sell tactics; lack of knowledge; over-priced for level of care. Long version: Today's visit, for my Great Pyrenees pup, began with a recommendation for $394 worth of services - prior to any whiff of a doctor. The dog needed only an exam, heartworm preventative, and first rabies shot. He's a healthy dog. After eliminating the extraneous items on the care estimate, I ended up paying $109 for necessary services (including $5.70 for hazardous waste disposal, which they charge on every visit, regardless of care rendered). In addition, the vet was very concerned about my dog's extra dew claw on each rear leg. He recommended surgery to remove them because, "...dogs should only have one on each side." You need only google Great Pyrenees to see the error in that comment. From a veterinarian. Finally, the vet refused, through his staff, to provide a prescription for ongoing heartworm preventative. First they expressed "concern" that 1-800-PetMeds sold defective products. Then they doubted that my certified livestock scale was accurate enough (within 25 pounds) to determine which heartworm chew my dog needed each month. They ultimately refused the prescription because the heartworm chews are, "...an FDA regulated substance." I knew that, which is the only reason I was asking for the Rx. It isn't, however, a controlled substance and it is perfectly reasonable to ask for a six month prescription to be filled by a licensed pharmacy - unless your primary goal is to squeeze every penny you can from each customer. This is one example from several in my personal experience. It is not difficult to see why same day and next day appointments are always available here. That should have been my first warning sign. I run a farm alone and was pressed for time. This vet was nearby. That's my only excuse. Anyhow, lesson learned. I hope the information is helpful to you. read more
